EDU-ARCTIC Objectives:
• to encourage interest in science, technology, engineering and
mathematics (STEM) education to secondary school students
• to provide an innovative and supportive educational program,
accessible to schools, educators and students all across Europe
and beyond
• to establish strong links between the research and education
communities by connecting schools to scientists at Arctic
research stations and research institutes throughout Europe

• 30 educational packages in English and in three national
languages (French, Polish, Romanian)

  • 1. Funding: EU Horizon 2020 Budget: ca. 1 800 000 EUR Period: May 2016 - April 2019 ENGAGING STUDENTS IN STEM EDUCATION THROUGH ARCTIC RESEARCH PROGRAM FOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS

ENGAGING STUDENTS IN STEM EDUCATION THROUGH ARCTIC RESEARCH EDU-ARCTIC Objectives: • to encourage interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education to secondary school students • to provide an innovative and supportive educational program, accessible to schools, educators and students all across Europe and beyond • to establish strong links between the research and education communities by connecting schools to scientists at Arctic research stations and research institutes throughout Europe

TRANSFORMING ARCTIC KNOWLEDGE INTO SKILLS Virtual classes from Arctic research stations by scientists A chance for students and their teachers to win a trip to an Arctic research station An EDU-ARCTIC Forum will be held in 3 European countries Citizen science environ- mental monitoring carried out at participating schools Encyclopedia about the Arctic region, explaining polar phenomena and scientific terminology ONLINE LESSONS ARCTIC COMPETITIONS EDUCATOR TRAINING SESSIONS MONITORING SYSTEM POLARPEDIA Program Components:

ERIS packages • 30 educational packages in English and in three national languages (French, Polish, Romanian) • Based on scientific measurements, observations available in various research databases (online or provided within packages) • Presentations, animations, graphics to describe phenomena; worksheets for pupils
  • 8. „GLACIERS” ABOUT: glaciers, ablation, reduction of the area of ice sheets and glaciers, associated with the global climate warming. Based on measurements from Hans glacier on Svalbard
  • 9. „METEOROLOGICAL MEASUREMENTS IN THE ARCTIC” ABOUT: the measurements carried out in the meteorological site next to the Polish Polar Station Hornsund on Spitsbergen, meteorological databases available online. Contains several mathematical puzzles.
