Orphan
Orphan – Biblical definition:
"Comfortless one"
Living as orphans or comfortless ones is living with unresolved unmet needs – either without a
family, or in the midst of a family system. This can be seen in our anxiety levels, and by the
unhealthy roles we take on to try and be accepted, loved, and welcome in our own families.
There are over 200,000 orphans in the world today

The Spirit Of The Holy Spirit
There are many believers, faiths and doctrinal teachings that acknowledge the power of the Holy
Spirit, however, they do not ascribe his actions and the power to an individual essence but rather to
mere influence. I do believe that the Holy Spirit is a person, in–fact the Third Person of the Trinity
who is equal with the Father and the Son in essence. When it comes to the individual acts of the
Holy Spirit as recorded in scripture, Elmer Town says it best "the Holy Spirit does a number of
things only a person can do; and it is the unfolding of this precept that I believe continuously bears
witness to the person of the Holy Spirit. I also believe that the Holy Spirit, the Third person of the
Trinity is also God and as God, He is worthy of our worship and our praise. I believe in the ministry
and the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit; and despite all of the external influences and desires of
the flesh, the believer by the power of the Holy Spirit is enabled to live a godly life in this present
ungodly and evil world (Ezekiel 36:2, Acts 2:38). I believe that the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is
to manifest the active presence of God in this world especially in the life of the believer so to purify
and convict us of our sins (1 Cor 6:11, John 6:8–11 and Acts 7:51) . From the foundation and
creation of the world scripture bears witness to the power of the Holy Spirit. In the book of Genesis
it was the Holy Spirit that moved in the darkness upon the face of the waters to

The Spirit In Scientology
The term Thetan is used a lot in Scientology it is was they say instead of spirit. They believe that the
spirit is separate from the body, and even the mind for the mind is part of the body. The brain is not
intelligent, but rather is like a switch board that just directs signals through it. This leads into life
after death, and from what I researched the only thing that they really talked about is that Thetan
(spirit) will continue after the body has died. So it seems that the spirit will either continue on just as
a spirit or can become part of another body later on (reincarnation). All the research I have found on
Scientology has come directly from their website, but I still had some more questions that wanted to
learn that I could not find

The Spirit Of Christ : The Holy Spirit
When you consider who the Holy Spirit is, something will stir up within your spirit. The more
knowledge your spirit–man receives the stronger it will become and you become abundantly
dependent towards the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the third person that bears witness in the
Godhead. The book of Acts describes Him as "...a rushing mighty wind" (Acts 2:2). This is not just
an ordinary Spirit that you have been sealed with, He is mighty and able to take down forces, He is
rushing to fill you and equipped you and He is the breath of God that gives you the life you need to
raise the dead to life. Let us look into profound details about the Holy Spirit according to scriptures;
you must understand that in Him there is revelation knowledge concerning His nature. His nature is
able to revive and create an awakening within your identity.
The Spirit Of Christ The Scriptures also allow you to understand that the Holy Spirit is indeed
Christ Jesus. As it is written:
"...Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His." (Romans 8:9)
Paul begins the first nine verses of chapter eight with a strong opening that brings comfort for the
people of Christ. He allows his readers to understand that there is "...no condemnation to those who
are in Christ Jesus" (Verse 1a). Therefore you are free from the accusations that the devil will
present.
Although Paul's statement is the truth, he makes it very clear in the closing of verse one that this
pertains to those "...who do not walk

Ghosts And Spirits By Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
Unfinished Business:
Ghosts and Spirits
The average person may think of ghosts and spirits as something disguised in a white sheet with
holes for eyes, a ragged figure dragging chains and moaning. In addition, something floating
through the air and that can enter and exit rooms without the need to open doors. This is an example
of the way ghosts and spirits are usually described in stories or depicted in movies. It has been said
that ghosts and spirits are souls that cannot pass into the next world or dimension once they have
died on earth. Although, truth be told that all ghosts and spirits have a purpose to be able to travel
through two different worlds, life and afterlife. Ghosts and spirits proves to be a dominant symbol in
the play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also not uncommon to meet former family at the time of death that delivers help to the afterlife.
All of these guides will normally always create a successful transition in and out of the world.
Pursuing this further, Elisabeth Kubler–Ross describes that "it is important to know that every single
human being, from the moment of birth until the moment when they make the transition and end this
physical existence, is in the presence of guides or guardian angels that will give you aid to the
transition from life after death". Basically, the psychopomp is another way to help the spirits get
through to the other side (animals, friends, former family and guardian angels). The psychopomp is
a person that is born with this talent in guiding with the transitions. It is also a skill that can be leant,
the primary function is not to reconnect the living with the dead, but to help the spirits cross over.
Angels. Guardian angels. Spirit guides.
Angels, Guardian angels and spirit guides are really the "good type" of ghosts, althoughthey fit more
in the description of a spirit. In the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament, angels are known as
God's messengers. Common Knowledge of angels also knows that they are sent by God to watch
over the human race, to guard and protect from danger, as well as to give humans signs to excel in
life. Statistics have shown that many people believe in angels. According to a poll of American
adults "96% believe in God, 90% believe in

Baptism and the Holy Spirit
Baptism and the Holy Spirit in the Book of Acts
Water Baptism vs Baptized with the Spirit and Power
The book of Acts begins with Jesus' parting words to His apostles before His ascension to the right
hand of God the Father. In His opening statement Jesus promises the Holy Spirit, and He does this
by distinguishing the coming of the Spirit from the baptism of John. "For John truly baptized with
water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." (Acts 1:5) John had
testified the same of his baptism, "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is
coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with
the Holy Spirit and fire." (Matthew 3:11, also in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3 And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. 4 And they were
all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Still Today?
Is Jesus still baptizing with the Holy Spirit and with fire today? It is certain that the Holy Spirit is
given in water baptism (see again Acts 2:38; John 3:5; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Titus 3:5), and that the
Holy Spirit dwells in the church. But the following two consideration indicate that the unique
baptism of the Holy Spirit which accompanied the apostle's ministry is not normative for the Lord's
church.
● First, not everyone who was baptized (with water) later received the baptism of the Spirit. In fact,
of the (at least) nine occurrences of water baptism in the book of Acts, two are followed by the
baptism of the Holy Spirit, and one is preceded by the Holy Spirit precedes baptism by water (Acts
10). Pentecost is a unique instance where three–thousand are baptized with water after the Apostles
were baptized by the Holy Spirit. So we see that already in the book of Acts that the baptism of the
Holy Spirit is not the normal and regular form of baptism. On the other hand, every convert to the
Holy Church in Acts is baptized with water. This is why the church has taught that the baptism of
water in the name of the Holy Trinity is a sacrament which works faith and gives the forgiveness of
all sin,

Fruit of the Spirit
Introduction: Fruit of the Spirit
Turn in your Bible to Galatians 5:22. This is a relatively familiar verse. Ask any child fresh out of a
bible–learning program–Bible School, years of Sunday School and Awana, whatever–to name the
fruit of the Spirit, and they can probably tell you. "The fruits of the Spirit are love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self–control." They can recite those
words with huge smiles on their faces, ticking them off on their fingers and expecting to be
rewarded for remembering all seven. Most adults can probably name at least five or six of the "fruits
of the Spirit." Or, if you, like me, are a former attendee of GA (Girls in Action) or presumably RA

Their son is mistrustful of organized religion in general and the church he grew up in in particular.
They have abandoned a portion of their family–their granddaughter–in order to protect their
reputation. They have no contact with her: no phone calls, no pictures, no visits. If they saw her on
the street, they would pass her by, because they would not recognize her and she would not know
them.
Bad trees produce bad fruit, regardless of the appearance that they try to create. If the root–the
heart–is rotten, the fruit will also be rotten.
On the other hand, Jesus gives us the assurance that as long as you remain in him, as long as you
give him control over even the most difficult aspects of your life, you will bear good fruit.
You will be loving. You will know joy. You will have peace. You will be patient. You will be kind.
You will be good. You will be faithful. You will be gentle. And you will have self–control.

essential and will be dealt with in the final section. Doubtless, there are many theological errors
concerning God's Sprit that could potentially cause a new believer harm, but few are as pervasive as
the belief that only Christians with the gift of tongues have acquired the Holy Spirit. It can be said
that two events, Agnes Ozman praying in tongues in 1901 and the 1906–1909 Azuza street revival,
were what began modern Pentecostalism. Despite its relatively late arrival within Christian history,
today "Pentecostalism and related charismatic movements represent one of the fastest growing
segments of global Christianity." Within this movement, there are a large number of believers that
understand the Holy Spirit and his "baptism" in a way that differs from what the Church has
historically believed. Many Pentecostals believe that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is an event that
occurs after salvation and is always accompanied by the gift of tongues. This belief leads to a
separation of the Body of Christ into spirit–filled and non sprit–filled believers. ... Show more

This is the most essential doctrine regarding who the Holy Spirt is. Any and all teaching points on
the Holy Spirt should flow from an understanding of His divinity. Early Church fathers had a name
for those who confessed that the Holy Spirit was less than God, "Pneumatomachians or 'fighters
against the spirit.'" This early belief that the Spirit is a creature of God more akin to the angels was
successfully denounced by Athanasius at the Council of Alexandria in 362 and finally put to an end
within Christianity during the second Council at Constantinople in 381. Unfortunately, this belief is
prominent today among some circles such as Jehovah Witness who claim that the Holy Spirit is not
a person, but more of a force or power of God. Denying the Holy spirit His divinity leads to, among
many other problems, a rejection of the Triune nature of God. Which, in turn, is a rejection of a

Essay on Huckleberry Finn: A Free Spirit
Huckleberry Finn: A Free Spirit
Huckleberry Finn is not an escapist, but a free spirit who only wants to live deeply disentangled
from the bonds of society. An escapist is someone who flees from his/her responsibilities, while a
free spirit is a person who knows no boundaries, and cannot be tamed by society.
It may appear at first that Huck is an escapist, for he enjoys not having to go to school when living
with his father. He escapes from the cabin and his father's abuse; however, he escapes from his
father's cabin out of the necessity of survival, not because he didn't want to accept responsibilities.
Even though Huck did enjoy fishing and relaxing in the sun during his stay with Pap, it wasn't the
responsibility that he was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He decided that he didn't care what society thought was right, and that staying true to Jim was the
best thing to do. "I knowed very well I had done wrong, and I see it warn't no use for me to try to
learn to do right...Then I thought for a minute, and says to myself hold n; s'pose you'd 'a' done right
and give Jim up, would've you felt better than what you do now? No says I, I'd feel bad...Well, then
says I, what's the use you learning to do right when it's troublesome to do right and ain't no trouble
to do wrong." (p. 95) His spirit is free and uncorrupted by the prejudices of society. By listening to
his heart, Huck makes a good choice. He still takes responsibility for his own actions although not
according to the standards put on him, but by those he puts on himself. He is no longer as selfish, as
he becomes more mature he learns to respect other peoples' feelings and needs. Even though he
doesn't want to live in their world, Huck still has feelings for the people he meets and cares for.
Traveling down the Mississippi is heaven for a free spirit like Huck. Surviving on their own terms
Huck and Jim "borrowed" vegetables and hunted for meat. " We shot a water fowl now and then that
got up too early in the morning or didn't go to bed early enough in the evening. Take it all around we
lived pretty high." (p.71) Huck is completely satisfied with this life style. He has everything a free

The Spirit Of The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit gives different gifts to different people. There are multiple ways to use these gifts
and the Spirit works in differing ways. More importantly, these gifts are given by the same Spirit,
the different ways to use them come from the same Lord and the same God is making these different
gifts happen in everyone (1 Corinthians 12:4–6). The Holy Spirit gives these gifts to everyone that is
a part of the body of believers (1 Corinthians 12:4). The way that the Holy Spirit is given to each of
us is also different but also special to us. This shows that our Heavenly Father cares for everyone
and knows what each of us need, in order to benefit the entire body of believers (1 Corinthians
12:7). The Holy Spirit gives the gifts of knowledge, healing, ability to perform miracles, ability
prophesize, differentiate spirits, speak in different languages, and translate those languages to the
people that are a part of the body of believers (1 Corinthians 12:9–10). More importantly, the Holy
Spirit gave specific gifts to individuals for a reason (1 Corinthians 12:11). All of the gifts/parts come
together and make up one body, the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:19). Even though there are
many gifts, they are all necessary and play a role in making sure body of believers grow and fulfill
God's plan (1 Corinthians 12:21).

House of Spirits
The House of Spirits by Isabel Allende is captivating novel full of the supernatural and realistic
sides of the Trueba women. Allende's use of the supernatural heightens suspense, enhances the
setting, and complicates the plot (Jenkins). The novel goes through three generations of women each
one more involved with spirits than the previous. Clara is the mother of Blanca and grandmother of
Alba which expresses the realism of spirits as Clara passes on. Allende uses her experiences as a
woman to personify them through the three generations, emphasizing the bond between the three in
form of ghosts and spirits and illustrates their power through their silence and voice truly creating a
threat to the society. The silence allows for them to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The women portrayed in the novel all have an angelic feel to them, or that they are constantly being
followed by a ghost. This out of body presence is that of their family. Blanca and Alba experience
this when Clara passes away in that her spirit is always with them and her ghost is constantly on
earth, as though she is unable to leave. The Empowering distinction of the women with spirits is a
great threat to the fabric of Chilean society for women feeling power to equality with men would
start a revolution. As Jenkins states in her essay on Supernatural, ghost, spirits, and women
""Allende reproduces the silences of Clara that reflect a kind of subversive mimicry of patriarchal
scripts of female submission rather than a complicity in such scripts".(Jenkins).
Despite not direct influence on Alba, once Clara has passed she still is influence Alba's life and what
she does. Clara's spirit inspires Alba to begin writing as her grandmother once did, which in turn
rescued Alba from possible psychological and physical pain. The power behind the voice of women
in the novel and roles played mirror the way ghosts and spirits indentify in the novel. The author
employs many forms of realism in her writing to incorporate the lives of Clara, Blanca, and Alba.
This is evident through Clara in that her spirits are going against religion and good manners. The

The Flesh and the Spirit
Anne Bradstreet's poem "The Flesh and the Spirit" shows us the duality of man that her audience
was having to deal with at the spiritual level. While this poem was written back in 1643 it still
shows us as Christians what we have come from and how easy it would be to go back to a life of the
"flesh". This poem also goes about giving us details about what we should be striving for and what
we have to look forward to if we strive toward the real or ultimate goals or rather possessions. The
poem is written in two different parts starting with the ways and things of the flesh, that being
material possessions that are for our enjoyment here on earth. The second part consists of more

Spirit continues rebuking Flesh about how vanity is not what is to be sought after. Spirit may not

trying to accumulate their possessions for and tells us the importance of choosing the correct

Meaning Of Galatian's Life By The Spirit
Have you ever wondered what it means to walk by the Spirit? Or what the Fruits of the Spirit truly
mean when applied to your life? Are you struggling with sin or maybe with issues you would not
identify as sin that do not feel right?
Paul addresses these issues in Galatians 5:13–26 by showing us what Life by the Spirit truly means.
Paul wrote this Epistle to defend himself and his ministry since many false teachers were telling the
Galatians otherwise and as a wake up call for the people of Galatia. Many took his message and
applied it to their lives, but continued to live in sin with one another. Paul wrote this book out of
frustration because he was disappointed in the Galatians for turning away from his teachings so
quickly. Paul wanted to let the Galatians know that they are no longer under Jewish law and should
not have to be circumcised to follow the Lord; they are free in Christ.
Paul spends the majority of passage talking about the Spirit and the flesh. The first thing you should
identify is what "the flesh" means. The flesh is a metaphor for our sinful nature, not necessarily
referring to the organ, flesh or skin. The Spirit is known as the Holy Spirit or our conscience to
make decisions. In verse 13–18 Paul is speaking directly to the people by using the pronoun, you.
He is letting the people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This relates to his use of "inheriting the Kingdom of God" metaphor in verse 21 since often times in
the Bible we are referred to as children of God. This does not mean we will actually inherit the
Kingdom, but that we will just receive eternal life. Since Paul calls the Galatians brothers and
sisters, he is reminding them they too are apart of the family of Christ and have been called to live
by the Spirit and refrain from sin. Furthermore, we are to serve and love one another and take up the
characteristics and attributes that the Spirit calls us to

The Holy Spirit Of God
"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses
unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the
earth." (Acts 1:8) The many works in the book of Acts were undoubtedly impossible without the
power of the Holy Spirit. In Acts alone, there are 57 references to the Holy Spirit. There is no doubt
that the Spirit was powerfully important in the early church and especially among the apostles. Yet
in order to understand how the apostles were used of the Spirit, it is imperative to know who the
Spirit is. "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost:
and these three are one." (1 John 5:7)

"And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit." (Ephesians 5:18)
In New Testament Greek two words meaning "to fill, to fulfill, to complete" are used in association
with the Holy Spirit. They are πληρόω and πίμπλημι. The filling of the Holy Spirit is what enabled
these ordinary men to do the extraordinary. The filling of the Spirit is not the same as the baptism of
the Holy Spirit. Baptism of the Holy Spirit is what happens at the moment of salvation and is
permanent. When a person is filled with the Spirit it is temporary, and is a continual process of being
emptied of sin and surrendering in order to be full of the Spirit. To be filled with the Spirit means to
be completely controlled not by the flesh, but by the power of the Spirit. These men in the book of
Acts certainly knew and experienced the power of the filling of the Holy Ghost.
"...they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost..."
First of all, we see of the Spirit's work through the deacon and martyr, Stephen. The twelve disciples
were in need of faithful and Spirit–filled men as deacons to help the widows. Stephen was one of the
first deacons chosen. Besides attending to the widows, God used Stephen to work "great wonders

Who Is Eleanor Prosser The Ghost's Spirit
We have already seen how Hamlet's incorporation of the spirit of his father contains hints of tabooed
aggressiveness. The Ghost's last words to Hamlet in act I, scene iv, were "Remember me." The first
words of the Ghost's sole speech in act III, scene iv, will be "Do not forget." But by this time Hamlet
is not remembering his father: he is replacing him.
The reemergence of the buried dead––the intervention of the Ghost in this scene––has always been a
source of great controversy and general dismay. Eleanor Prosser speaks for many when she says,
"The final appearance of the Ghost presents an insoluble problem. Every theory about its purpose is
faced with some contradiction." To Prosser, the Ghost's appearance "has served only one purpose:
not to lead Gertrude to Heaven but to leave her to Hell."7 Prosser's view illustrates a general
tendency to determine once and for all whether the Ghost is a good or an evil spirit and thus to fail
to recognize the ambivalence that characterizes the roles, relationships, and structure of the tragedy.
Contradictory theories about ghosts' purposes might better be used as pairs than rejected, or
regarded as mutually exclusive. The view, for example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Theme Of Revenge In The Spirit Of The Rainforest
Spirit of the Rainforest delivers an engaging tale of Yanomamo life through the eyes of Jungleman, a
powerful shaman in Venezuela. The novel presents a disturbing sampling of spirit warfare scenes,
detailing the transformation of some Yanomami people while initiating a transformation in the
worldview of its readers. Members of the culture engage in an endless cycle of slaughtering each
other in the name of hatred. The motif of Vengeance lingers throughout the novel. It's motivated by
the spirits of the rainforest and causes enormous chaos until it is thwarted by the peace given by Yai
Pada (God). Spirit of the Rainforest and recent research demonstrate the necessity of forgiveness for
personal growth and their relation to the spirit realm.
According to the accounts recorded in Spirit of the Rainforest, blood revenge is a prevalent
motivator of Yanomamo killings. "The Oxford English Dictionary defines revenge as both an act
and a desire. In the act of revenge, individuals respond to a wrong by harming the transgressor.
Revenge can also refer to the urge to pay back wrongs; thus, a person can have 'revenge in his
heart'" (Schumann). The desire for vengeance resulting in murder weaves throughout the novel.
Oftentimes, before the genesis of a great conflict, a Yanomamo witnesses the death of relative,
allows anger to fester inside of him, dreams of revenge, then follows the promptings of a spirit to go
and commit heinous crimes. This ultimately results in celebration immediately followed by fear,
unrest, and chaos. Thus, the cycle of vengeance and grief spirals on in accordance with the will of
the evil spirits. One example of this cycle can be found in the story of Hairy and Yellowflower. After
Yellowflower's sister dies, Hairy forces her to marry him. After she repeatedly runs away Hairy
murders her in the jungle. Then, her brothers come to avenge her death by beating Hairy's brother,
which results in his death. So, Hairy travels back to her village and "when he got there, they killed
that brother and their grief was satisfied" (Ritchie, 106). However, despite the satisfaction Hairy
initially feels, his memories of killing Yellowflower haunt him. Soon, his nights are consumed with
nightmares and he can no

The Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit:
In the writings of the apologists, there were no distinguish a third person for God's nature. They

to identify the Spirit as the Logos, the second person.
As Justin stated that;
The Logos inspired the prophets of the Old Testament but also said the Spirit inspired the prophets.
A few passages seem to identify the Spirit as a third person, some sort of created being inferior to
the other two.
In one passage Justin identified "the prophetic Spirit" as a third being to worship, after God and "the

Baptism:
Irenaeus trained that faith, repentance, and water baptism are all essential to salvation. He believed
that water baptism is part of the new birth. Water baptism is necessary for salvation. It's effecting the
washing away, remission, or forgiveness of sins.
Eucharist:
The Irenaeus' theology of Eucharist gives meaningful thought about Lord's Supper. He stated that;
In the Eucharist, the members of the body of Christ are nourished by him. Being united to their lord
and sharing in his life and his blood. In drinking of the cup and eating of the bread, the believer is
nourished by the body and the blood of Christ in such a real way that he can trust in his final

Paul, one of the apocalyptic writers of the New Testament, received God's message not from man,
but "through revelation of Jesus Christ," (Galatians 1:12). In other words, he never met Jesus in the
flesh, but rather through a spiritual vision. Paul establishes his authority and writes to the Galatians
criticizing the people who just meet the needs of the established Jewish law as opposed to having
true faith in God. For this new time in history, Paul reshapes the social contours of what people saw
in salvation and eternal life in preparation for the second coming of Christ through tremendous

redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us. For it is written, 'Cursed is
everyone who hangs on a tree,' that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through
Christ Jesus; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith," (Galatians 3:13–14). In
short, following the law is compared to hanging on a tree. Thus, law is rendered useless as faith is
now available through the Spirit. Furthermore, Paul mentions, "But before faith came, we were kept
in custody under the law, shut up to the faith which should afterwards be revealed," (Galatians 3:23).
In other words, people were restricted by the law, but now that faith has come through Jesus Christ
law does not limit one another anymore. This demonstrates the bivalence of slavery and freedom
inherent in the text. As a result, Paul's letter to the Galatians argues that faith is above the law, which
further diminishing the law's

Essay about The Spirit In Context
What are the possible points of agreement and points of tension between different religious schools
of thought on the body, in relation to the Holy Spirit? How might Christians respond to these?
Introduction Scripture seems to contradict itself with regard to the human body. Sometimes the body
is seen as precious, for instance in 1 Cor 6:19–30, and sometimes as a hinderance to unity with
Christ, 2 Cor 5:6–8. This seeming ambiguity within scripture has created distinct and conflicting
schools of thought among Christian thinkers regarding the body and spirituality. Some advocate that
the body is an essential part of our spirituality and should be embraced; others that the body is a
hinderance to it, and should be approached with suspicion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Anthony of the Desert, who is considered to be the father of Christian monasticism, is said to have
experienced overwhelming shame at the prospect of food, rest and other bodily needs, so that he
would not be seen taking care of his physical needs by others.5 St Francis of Assisi was equally
undermining of his bodily needs. Even when close to death, he feared that accepting necessary
treatment was an indulgence. It was only at the last minute that he was successfully persuaded to
serve his body by caring for it in the same way that it had cared for him, by which point it was too
late. Dualism continued through the ages in various forms, but was specifically revived during the
Age of Enlightenment, which emphasized science and reason over faith and tradition. The
movement sought to release man from God's authority, resulting in a shift from Theism to Deism.
Secularism took Deism one step further, suggesting that if God does not interact with mankind and
is not near, He is not needed. This perspective unfolded throughout the western world,

Spirit Baptism
Introduction
Spirit baptism or 'baptism in the Spirit' is understood differently by different denominations. In the
scope of this essay, the traditional Pentecostal understanding will be contrasted with that of the non–
Pentecostal/charismatic evangelical tradition. Spirit baptism has very much been the 'crown jewel' of
Pentecostalism with its emphasis on power to witness and speaking in tongues. It's fair to say that
Pentecostal identity and ideology 'are based at least partly on a specific relationship between biblical
texts and the experiences of Christians as transmitted via life stories' (Andersson, 2014, p. 113).
What is imperative, is that one doesn't let experience formulate doctrine, but unfortunately for some
this is precisely what has happened. Experience has overruled sound exegesis.
Pentecostal doctrine and practice is primarily derived from Luke–Acts and is stressed to be
subsequent to salvation and evidenced by speaking in tongues. Non–Pentecostals/charismatics, by
contrast, understand Spirit baptism to occur simultaneously with conversion (it's inferred by one's
salvation) and often without the need of any external evidence. However, what lies at the heart of
this issue is not simply a question of timing, but also evidence, and what constitutes biblical Spirit
baptism. To progress in this important biblical concept, it is paramount that it's recognized as being
both exegetical and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What keeps their argument intact is the belief that the Samaritans were already believers and that
here is a clear biblical post–Pentecost precedent which allows for a subsequent empowering. Not all

The Spirit Of God Is The Spirit Of Love
4:7–13 The Spirit of God is the Spirit of love. He that does not love the image of God in his people,
has no saving knowledge of God. For it is God's nature to be kind, and to give happiness. The law of
God is love; and all would have been perfectly happy, had all obeyed it. The provision of the gospel,
for the forgiveness of sin, and the salvation of sinners, consistently with God's glory and justice,
shows that God is love. Mystery and darkness rest upon many things yet. God has so shown himself
to be love, that we cannot come short of eternal happiness, unless through unbelief and impenitence,
although strict justice would condemn us to hopeless misery, because we break our Creator's laws.
None of our words or thoughts can do justice to the free, astonishing love of a holy God towards
sinners, who could not profit or harm him, whom he might justly crush in a moment, and whose
deserving of his vengeance was shown in the method by which they were saved, though he could by
his almighty Word have created other worlds, with more perfect beings, if he had seen fit. ... Show

It is to be found in the person and the cross of Christ. Does love exist between God and sinners?
Here was the origin, not that we loved God, but that he freely loved us. His love could not be
designed to be fruitless upon us, and when its proper end and issue are gained and produced, it may
be said to be perfected. So faith is perfected by its works. Thus it will appear that God dwells in us
by his new–creating Spirit. A loving Christian is a perfect Christian; set him to any good duty, and
he is perfect to it, he is expert at it. Love oils the wheels of his affections, and sets him on that which

We believe that we are not baptized with the Holy Ghost in order to be saved, but that we are

Touching Spirit Bear Theme
Touching Spirit Bear and Ghost of Spirit Bear both are books that portray great themes, are
inspiring, exciting, and a great read.
The books Ghost of Spirit Bear and Touching Spirit Bear both have inspiring themes that people can
relate to. The theme from Touching Spirit is that you can't let your past get in the way of your future.
For example, in Touching Spirit Bear Cole has to help the person he hurt in his past to help him
heal. And the theme for Ghost of Spirit Bear is that to win a fight, you don't always have to fight
with your fists. Even Garvey said, "'Try fighting with your heart sometime"(Mikaelsen, Ghost 69).
Although Ghost of Spirit Bear is the sequel to Touching Spirit Bear, they have many differences. In
Ghost of Spirit Bear, the theme will mostly relate to teens because in the book there is a lot of
bullying, gangs, and suicide. For example, Cole thought, "Groups of kids hung around outside the
school, shoving and slapping at one another and shouting names"(Mikaelsen, Ghost 10). But the
theme in Touching Spirit Bear can actually relate to anyone who has made mistakes in their past.
And the characters in the first book act much different than in the sequel. For example, Cole was an
angry juvenile student in Touching Spirit Bear but he has learned to ... Show more content on

past. For example, Cole had changed in Touching Spirit Bear and in Ghost of Spirit Bear it shows

Ambiguous Spirit In Hamlet
In William Shakespeare's Hamlet, a not so prevalent character but none the less important is the
spirit of Hamlet's deceased father, known as Ghost or King Hamlet. Much like other aspects of the
story, King Hamlet is a bit of an ambiguous character. To provide some insight into the purpose
and/or role of the character Ghost, an understanding of spiritual beliefs during the time of
Shakespeare is necessary. Superstitious belief was commonplace in Shakespeare's time. A closer
look at Catholic and Protestant beliefs regarding purgatory and spirits in general is warranted.

He asks Hamlet to avenge his death. "Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder (1.5.25)." Hamlet
is confronted with the decision whether the spirit is his father or a devil in disguise. Hamlet is
initially convinced that the spirit is an "honest ghost" when he tells Horatio "Yes, by Saint Patrick,
but there is, Horatio.../It is an honest ghost (1.5.136)." Knowing how the story ends, one could make
the argument that it was in fact an evil spirit manipulating Hamlet into seeking revenge, ultimately
culminating in Hamlet's death by Laertes and the subsequent fall of the Empire. One interesting
thought is that if it is a good spirit, why couldn't Hamlet's mother, Gertrude see it? During act III,
scene 4 Hamlet see's and hears the ghost but Gertrude cannot (105–142). Could this be an attempt to
drive Hamlet mad by a malevolent spirit? Egan claims "The Ghost might be the illusion of an
overwrought mind, in the awful scene between the mother and son, when the example of Nero and
Agrippina is only too near Hamlet's vengeful mind; but the whole spirit of the tragedy is against that
supposition."
There have been, and will be, many interpretations of the relationship between Hamlet and the
ghost. While we do have a lot of context via research to base our opinions on, unfortunately (or
fortunately depending on how you look at it) there will probably never be a definitive answer to this
question. Pleasing

Spirit Of The Rainforest Summary
Spirit of the Rainforest is a book written by Mark Andrew Ritchie about the Yanomamö people of
the Amazon. However, the story is told from the perspective of "Jungleman" a shaman of the people.
Jungleman is a powerful shaman who knows the realities of both the spirit world and the physical
world. His narrative helps the reader understand how important the spirit world is for the Yanomamö
people. Through his storytelling, he highlights the role of shamans in the culture, customs of his
people, and how those customs were affected when the nabas came.
At a young age, the spirits began talking to Jungleman through inanimate objects. He didn't
understand how the trees or the logs could be talking, but soon he realized it was spirits that were
communicating with him. He became a shaman and learned to welcome them, relying on them to
lead him. He took ebene and danced with them.Every night he talked with them and asked them for
advice. After the raid on Potato village, he turned to his spirits to guide him on what was next for his
people. "'What shall we do now...' I asked Jaguar Spirit and the others...''" (Ritchie,41) As Jungleman
gained experience, he became an influential shaman. His spirits helped him to heal sickness as well
as take revenge on his enemies. In the spirit world, he was able to see things that happened in other
villages, battle with other shamans and try to save children from the great evil spirit Yai Pada.

The Holy Spirit Is God
The Holy Spirit is God Himself. He is a person that we can have a personal relationship with. Also,
the Holy Spirit is the one that God gave to us as a guide, to direct and teach us in living a Holy life
(King James Version, John 14:16). The Holy Spirit is the voice inside of us that tells us when
something is not right with the choices that we have made. The voice inside of us comes from God,
who loves and cares enough to show us our error that we have made. Also, the Holy Spirit is part of
the Trinity; where God transformed into three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
When a person is born again, they believe and receive Jesus Christ (John 1:12–13), God comes
through people's life through the Holy Spirit (1Cor.3:16). The ... Show more content on

The Holy Spirit also acts in non–believers as well. The Holy Spirit makes people feel guilty about
the things that they have done and helps them to ask for God forgiveness on their sin. (John 16:8–
11). The Holy Spirit pulls on our hearts and minds asking us to repent and turn to God for
forgiveness and a new life. When the Apostle Paul was planting church in his missionary journey, he
preached lots about the duty of the Holy Spirit, and the role that he plays in our lives for example in
Roman 8:1–8. In view of this scripture, there is a very distinct difference between the human flesh
and the Holy Spirit. The Apostle Paul said that as long we become Christian, the Spirit of Jesus
Christ has set us free from the worldly law of sin. Whatever the flesh could not do Jesus Christ has
come to paid it all and to set us free from condemnation.
What is the Activity of the Holy Spirit?
The Bible talks about several roles that the Holy Spirit plays in the lives of people today. The first
thing that the Holy Spirit does is he provides conviction of sin to all people. John 16:8 said, "And
when he comes, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment". Also, the
Holy Spirit works in several ways for many believers that follow Christ. One of the roles that He
works is to serve as a comforter and a helper in our daily life. In John 14:16–17 this means that there
is someone that is helping us and guiding us and encouraging us during difficult time of

The Doctrine Of The Holy Spirit
Ever "since the Council of Chalcedon in 451, Gregory has been honored with the title "the
theologian" for his definitive teaching on the Trinity in the late–fourth century." This has been
bestowed to him because of his precise theological works "that helped to shift the official orthodoxy
of the church and empire from the homoian doctrine supported by [the Arians] to the fully
Trinitarian" faith that was confirmed at the Council of Constantinople in 381 AD. One of the
arguments presented against Nazienzus is that the Spirit is not fully deified as the Father and the Son
are deified. The Arian theology asserts that the Spirit is an illuminator that gives people the power to
become right with God, but it is not on the same level as God. ... Show more content on

The Arians believed that the Spirit has the "power of sanctification and instruction," but lacks the
qualifications of the Godhead. This proposal is clearly heresy, but it comes surprisingly close to
orthodoxy. The Holy Spirit described as an activity vaguely covers the qualities of the Holy Spirit,
part of the reason that this debate was not resolved within the first few years of its proposal.
Nazienzus nevertheless refutes this in his Five Theological Orations by posing the follow question:
The Holy Ghost must certainly be conceived of either as in the category of the Self–existent, or as in
that of the things which are contemplated in another; of which classes those who are skilled in such
matters call the one Substance and the other Accident. Now if He were an Accident, He would be an
Activity of God, for what else, or of whom else, could He be, for surely this is what most avoids
composition? And if He is an Activity, He will be effected, but will not effect and will cease to exist
as soon as He has been effected, for this is the nature of an Activity. How is it then that He acts and
says such and such things, and defines, and is grieved, and is angered, and has all the qualities which
belong clearly to one that moves, and not to movement? But if He is a Substance and not an attribute
of Substance, He will be conceived of either as a Creature of God, or as God."

The Spirit Of The Holy Spirit
Most of my ministry career has been spent trying to house break the Holy Spirit. As a young man I
saw so many instances of ministers manipulating people to try and drum up the Holy Spirit or the
people to receive the Holy Spirit that I thought the Holy Spirit needed our help if He was to move in
the lives of people. I had never really seen the work or manifestations of the Holy Spirit outside of a
southern Pentecostal setting. Furthermore, as a young man, I was always impressed with the
Evangelist who stopped at nothing to start revival. I not only stopped believing in the power of the
Holy Spirit, I doubted His intentions to allow such things to happen. So my interest in an academic
understanding of the Holy Spirit is insatiable. There has to be more to the Holy Spirit than just
speaking in tongues. This new understanding of the history and working of the Holy Spirit has
opened my eyes to the narrow mindedness of my Pneumatology. I now recognize the Holy Spirit in
our services more than in the past. I also rely more heavily on the Holy Spirit's leading in the
direction of our ministry, both in services and in meetings. This has given your congregation new
confidence in the Holy Spirit as the Comforter, Director, and Encourager of their lives. The fullness
of the Holy Spirit is not just relegated to the manifestations of gifts, but we begin to rely on His
direction and leading.

The Holy Spirit : The Holy Spirit Of God
The Holy Spirit of God is the active force or power in one's life, which most certainly includes
spiritual formation (Pettit, 2008, p. 46). When Jesus was speaking with his disciples he made it clear
– by using the analogy of a vine and branches – that apart from him they could do nothing (John
15:5). Only if one is connected to Christ will they have the ability to bear fruit and the way Jesus
empowers those connected to him is through the Holy Spirt that that father will send in his name
(John 14:26). The fact is that the triune God dwells in the Christian in and through the Holy Spirit.
One sees this when they place multiple passages together to gain a full understanding of this
concept. For example, Jesus made it clear that he and the father would come and make their home
with the disciple (John 14:23). In 1 Corinthians 6:19 Paul reminds the Corinthians that their bodies
are the very temple of God because the Holy Spirit dwells in them which is similar to what Jesus
said would happen when he sent the Holy Spirit after his resurrection and ascension (John 14:17,
16:7).
The fact that those who are connected to Christ are indwelt by the Trinity and empowered by the
Spirit of God remains true for Christians today. In Acts 1:8 Jesus had promised the disciples power
when the Holy Spirit came upon them and in Acts 2:38 Peter, having preached Christ crucified and
raised from the dead, made it clear that those who, by faith, were baptized into Christ would receive
the gift of the

Personal Narrative: The Presence Of A Spirit
When you are faced with something you can't see, how is it possible to tell them they are not

Spirits are able to make your body do things that you particularly would not choose to do on your
own. The scenario of which I was in the presence of a spirit myself is not only peculiar but also
unnerving to talk about. It's common for most people to be cynical about the paranormal world until
they individually experience what a spirit can truly do to the living. I had this feeling, a feeling that

Music And Music: Spirit, Soul, And Body
Spirit, Soul and Body
Music is the only medium that blesses both man and God at the same time and as such to see it as an
entertainment factor within our worship services is a gross misunderstanding of its purpose. Music
is made up of three elements: melody, harmony, and rhythm. Mankind is also made up of three
parts: spirit, soul and body (1 Thess 5:23). It can be argued that music and the triune, or trichotomy,
of mankind are intrinsically linked i.e. melody is likened to the spirit, harmony to the soul and
rhythm to the body. Let's look at the link between music and the triune man more closely.
1. Spirit and Melody
The word of God enables us to know God and be conscious of Him (Heb 4:12). The Bible explains
that God is a Spirit "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." (Jn

tune again with its melody. At that point everyone knew the song straightaway. This is the
importance of melody!
I believe that as we sing a song the melody affects and connects to the spirit of mankind as it is the
leading tune of a musical composition and delves deep in to the heart of a person when it is

What captured my attention immediately after reading this section was one specific word, fearless.
#259. "Spirit–filled evangelizers means evangelizers fearlessly open to the working of the Holy
Spirit." Pope Francis is not redefining anything but encouraging us to fearlessly be open to the Holy
Spirit. I can count how many times I have been hindered or even paralyzed out of fear. I think
admitting we have fear and identifying its true meaning and where it's coming from is what will
ignite the spirit Pope Francis wants us to have. We have a choice, we can fuel our fears or face them
head on knowing we have the gift of the Holy Spirit. I am actively trying to choose the latter every
moment I can, easier said than done. The way we counter fear is with fortitude. Fortitude is a
cardinal virtue, CCC 1808 "Fortitude is the moral virtue that ensures firmness in difficulties and
constancy in the pursuit of the good. It strengthens the resolve to resist temptations and to overcome
obstacles in the moral life. The virtue of fortitude enables one to conquer fear, even fear of death,
and to face trials and persecutions. It disposes one even to renounce and sacrifice his life in defense
of a just cause." I now see one of the most important reasons why Pope Francis wants us to not
forget our prayer life while we journey towards missionary discipleship with a spirit filled
evangelization. The closer we move to the Lord the more temptations and fears we face. "Lead us

The Spirit Of The Holy Spirit
Acts 2:2–21 shows a picture of the community that is filled by the Holy Spirit. The disciples
gathered together in one place, and "all of them were fulfilled with the Holy Spirit" (v.4). The scene
leaves some people amazed, confused and marveled (v.6–7). Even some thought that the people
were drunk (v.13). While many people were perplexed by the work of the Holy Spirit, Peter
validates this scene by reciting the prophecy of Joel (v.14–21). This text shows the new
understanding of a community of believers with the work of Holy Spirit. What does it mean to be
filled with the Holy Spirit? What a Spirit–filled community looks like? How does a Spirit–filled
community differ?
First of all, the writer of Acts uses the image of fire in v.3. This image reminds of the passage, "He

can interpret that the writer announces starting of a new community as baptizing the group. After the
disciples were baptized (After divided tongues, as of fire appeared among them), they were filled
with Holy Spirit in v.4. The writer already mentioned the meaning of being filled with the Holy
Spirit in Acts 1:8, "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will
be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8).
That is, the meaning of being filled with the Holy Spirit is to be the witness of Jesus and receive
power to deliver God's

Who Is The Holy Spirit?
I again talked with my mom for this week's Sharing the Journey. We were able to be outside and in
the garden which was a great place to see God in action. I had read Hailey's post about God being
the Gardner and this was a great launching place for our discussion. Sharing parts of the lectures
from Mr. Timms and the information from the text provided guidelines for our discussion as well
(Boa, 2001). I changed the order of the questions because I felt the chat was better led from the
starting point of establishing a base thought for the Holy Spirit.
Asking mom about the Holy Spirit, and how central to life it should be started us with a discussion
of the Trinity. God provided different aspects of himself to reach humankind and be ... Show more

The human mind deals with fixed ideas and cannot fathom the entirety of God. By providing three
forms, God has allowed the mind of the human to interact intimately with God. Parents provide
physical care, emotional support, and a safety net through the growing up process. God has provided
an intimate form of himself to provide instruction and support. An example that is not Biblical, but
makes sense is the character Jiminy Cricket within the story of Pinocchio. Jiminy provides ideas,
guidance, warnings, and support but Pinocchio has to make his own decisions for his own actions. A
Christian should welcome the Holy Spirit and strive to understand and act upon the "advice" of the
Holy Spirit.
Walking by the Spirit is the decision of the Christian to accept the internal inclinations provided by
the Holy Spirit. When deciding to accept Christ died for our sins, we also choose to live in the
power of God. We have free will. We are not perfect. The Holy Spirit keeps our sinful nature in
check and provides new wisdom when one is willing to step back from own ego and ideology. My
mom likes analogies and, of course, came up with another one for this too. Teenagers look to each
other for affirmation and acceptance. As Christians, we should look to God – via church
participation and becoming aware of how the Holy Spirit guides you personally. A teenager decides
how involved in a group to become, just as a Christian decides how much to be involved with the

Creative Writing: The Spirit World
"My friend, there are many things in this world and in the next that we do not understand. We may
never understand. I believe the order of things may be out of balance. Something happened that
caused the doors to the spirit world and ours to become out of whack. Evil spirits seem to have been
able to gain access to our world and inhabit our bodily vesicles after we've left them. It's possible
that dream you had the other night. That might be the spirit world calling on you to help set things
right again." "Awe, C'mon, man, don't talk like that, I'm nobody special," Lovienthal griped. "How
am I supposed to fix all of this? Let's face it. I've never been able to do anything right my whole life
unless you count drinking beer and checkers." "Yes, you are pretty good at checkers, my friend."

she was having with Steaks and James to look over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And, as for this scratch. Maybe, it can't be transferred by contact, whatever it is. Maybe, the booze
in me at the time worked like a disinfectant? My old man always said that the reason he never got
sick was because he drank so much and that it killed all the germs inside him. Or, maybe it was
those antibiotics I took. Maybe they helped in some way? The bottom line is I'm no prophet, man.
I'm just plain old Lovienthal. An overweight, aging, never was, wannabe fake detective. And even
that's nothing more than a poor excuse to keep partying because I have no idea of what to do with
my life, and never did." "Hey, what are you guys talking about over here?" Mary inquired as she
surreptitiously had crept up on them. "Oh, nothing much, we're just discussing our odds of getting
out of this alive," Lovienthal responded

Spirit Of Adoption Vs. Orphan Spirit

  • 1. Spirit of Adoption vs. Orphan Spirit Spirit of Adoption vs. Orphan Spirit Human Needs* Safety Unconditional Love Affirmation Purpose Frost, Jack and Trisha, Shiloh Place Ministries Orphan Orphan – Biblical definition: "Comfortless one" Living as orphans or comfortless ones is living with unresolved unmet needs – either without a family, or in the midst of a family system. This can be seen in our anxiety levels, and by the unhealthy roles we take on to try and be accepted, loved, and welcome in our own families. • 4. The Spirit Of The Holy Spirit There are many believers, faiths and doctrinal teachings that acknowledge the power of the Holy Spirit, however, they do not ascribe his actions and the power to an individual essence but rather to mere influence. I do believe that the Holy Spirit is a person, in–fact the Third Person of the Trinity who is equal with the Father and the Son in essence. When it comes to the individual acts of the Holy Spirit as recorded in scripture, Elmer Town says it best "the Holy Spirit does a number of things only a person can do; and it is the unfolding of this precept that I believe continuously bears witness to the person of the Holy Spirit. I also believe that the Holy Spirit, the Third person of the Trinity is also God and as God, He is worthy of our worship and our praise. I believe in the ministry and the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit; and despite all of the external influences and desires of the flesh, the believer by the power of the Holy Spirit is enabled to live a godly life in this present ungodly and evil world (Ezekiel 36:2, Acts 2:38). I believe that the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is to manifest the active presence of God in this world especially in the life of the believer so to purify and convict us of our sins (1 Cor 6:11, John 6:8–11 and Acts 7:51) . From the foundation and creation of the world scripture bears witness to the power of the Holy Spirit. • 6. The Spirit In Scientology The term Thetan is used a lot in Scientology it is was they say instead of spirit. They believe that the spirit is separate from the body, and even the mind for the mind is part of the body. The brain is not intelligent, but rather is like a switch board that just directs signals through it. This leads into life after death, and from what I researched the only thing that they really talked about is that Thetan (spirit) will continue after the body has died. So it seems that the spirit will either continue on just as a spirit or can become part of another body later on (reincarnation). All the research I have found on Scientology has come directly from their website, but I still had some more questions that wanted to learn that I could not find ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Spirit Of Christ : The Holy Spirit When you consider who the Holy Spirit is, something will stir up within your spirit. The more knowledge your spirit–man receives the stronger it will become and you become abundantly dependent towards the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the third person that bears witness in the Godhead. The book of Acts describes Him as "...a rushing mighty wind" (Acts 2:2). This is not just an ordinary Spirit that you have been sealed with, He is mighty and able to take down forces, He is rushing to fill you and equipped you and He is the breath of God that gives you the life you need to raise the dead to life. Let us look into profound details about the Holy Spirit according to scriptures; you must understand that in Him there is revelation knowledge concerning His nature. His nature is able to revive and create an awakening within your identity. The Spirit Of Christ The Scriptures also allow you to understand that the Holy Spirit is indeed Christ Jesus. As it is written: "...Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His." (Romans 8:9) Paul begins the first nine verses of chapter eight with a strong opening that brings comfort for the people of Christ. He allows his readers to understand that there is "...no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus" (Verse 1a). Therefore you are free from the accusations that the devil will present. Although Paul's statement is the truth, he makes it very clear in the closing of verse one that this pertains to those "...who do not walk ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Ghosts And Spirits By Elisabeth Kubler-Ross Unfinished Business: Ghosts and Spirits The average person may think of ghosts and spirits as something disguised in a white sheet with holes for eyes, a ragged figure dragging chains and moaning. In addition, something floating through the air and that can enter and exit rooms without the need to open doors. This is an example of the way ghosts and spirits are usually described in stories or depicted in movies. It has been said that ghosts and spirits are souls that cannot pass into the next world or dimension once they have died on earth. Although, truth be told that all ghosts and spirits have a purpose to be able to travel through two different worlds, life and afterlife. Ghosts and spirits proves to be a dominant symbol in the play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is also not uncommon to meet former family at the time of death that delivers help to the afterlife. All of these guides will normally always create a successful transition in and out of the world. Pursuing this further, Elisabeth Kubler–Ross describes that "it is important to know that every single human being, from the moment of birth until the moment when they make the transition and end this physical existence, is in the presence of guides or guardian angels that will give you aid to the transition from life after death". Basically, the psychopomp is another way to help the spirits get through to the other side (animals, friends, former family and guardian angels). Baptism and the Holy Spirit Baptism and the Holy Spirit in the Book of Acts Water Baptism vs Baptized with the Spirit and Power The book of Acts begins with Jesus' parting words to His apostles before His ascension to the right hand of God the Father. In His opening statement Jesus promises the Holy Spirit, and He does this by distinguishing the coming of the Spirit from the baptism of John. "For John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." (Acts 1:5) John had testified the same of his baptism, "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire." (Matthew 3:11, also in ... Still Today? Is Jesus still baptizing with the Holy Spirit and with fire today? It is certain that the Holy Spirit is given in water baptism (see again Acts 2:38; John 3:5; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Titus 3:5), and that the Holy Spirit dwells in the church. But the following two consideration indicate that the unique baptism of the Holy Spirit which accompanied the apostle's ministry is not normative for the Lord's church. ● First, not everyone who was baptized (with water) later received the baptism of the Spirit. In fact, of the (at least) nine occurrences of water baptism in the book of Acts, two are followed by the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and one is preceded by the Holy Spirit precedes baptism by water (Acts 10). Pentecost is a unique instance where three–thousand are baptized with water after the Apostles were baptized by the Holy Spirit. So we see that already in the book of Acts that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is not the normal and regular form of baptism. On the other hand, every convert to the Holy Church in Acts is baptized with water. This is why the church has taught that the baptism of water in the name of the Holy Trinity is a sacrament which works faith and gives the forgiveness of all sin, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ask any child fresh out of a bible–learning program–Bible School, years of Sunday School and Awana, whatever–to name the fruit of the Spirit, and they can probably tell you. "The fruits of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self–control." They can recite those words with huge smiles on their faces, ticking them off on their fingers and expecting to be rewarded for remembering all seven. Doubtless, there are many theological errors concerning God's Sprit that could potentially cause a new believer harm, but few are as pervasive as the belief that only Christians with the gift of tongues have acquired the Holy Spirit. It can be said that two events, Agnes Ozman praying in tongues in 1901 and the 1906–1909 Azuza street revival, were what began modern Pentecostalism. Despite its relatively late arrival within Christian history, today "Pentecostalism and related charismatic movements represent one of the fastest growing segments of global Christianity." Within this movement, there are a large number of believers that understand the Holy Spirit and his "baptism" in a way that differs from what the Church has historically believed. Many Pentecostals believe that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is an event that occurs after salvation and is always accompanied by the gift of tongues. This belief leads to a separation of the Body of Christ into spirit–filled and non sprit–filled believers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the most essential doctrine regarding who the Holy Spirt is. Any and all teaching points on the Holy Spirt should flow from an understanding of His divinity. Early Church fathers had a name for those who confessed that the Holy Spirit was less than God, "Pneumatomachians or 'fighters against the spirit.'" This early belief that the Spirit is a creature of God more akin to the angels was successfully denounced by Athanasius at the Council of Alexandria in 362 and finally put to an end within Christianity during the second Council at Constantinople in 381. Unfortunately, this belief is prominent today among some circles such as Jehovah Witness who claim that the Holy Spirit is not a person, but more of a force or power of God. An escapist is someone who flees from his/her responsibilities, while a free spirit is a person who knows no boundaries, and cannot be tamed by society. It may appear at first that Huck is an escapist, for he enjoys not having to go to school when living with his father. He escapes from the cabin and his father's abuse; however, he escapes from his father's cabin out of the necessity of survival, not because he didn't want to accept responsibilities. More importantly, these gifts are given by the same Spirit, the different ways to use them come from the same Lord and the same God is making these different gifts happen in everyone (1 Corinthians 12:4–6). The Holy Spirit gives these gifts to everyone that is a part of the body of believers (1 Corinthians 12:4). The way that the Holy Spirit is given to each of us is also different but also special to us. This shows that our Heavenly Father cares for everyone and knows what each of us need, in order to benefit the entire body of believers (1 Corinthians 12:7). Are you struggling with sin or maybe with issues you would not identify as sin that do not feel right? Paul addresses these issues in Galatians 5:13–26 by showing us what Life by the Spirit truly means. Paul wrote this Epistle to defend himself and his ministry since many false teachers were telling the Galatians otherwise and as a wake up call for the people of Galatia. Many took his message and applied it to their lives, but continued to live in sin with one another. Paul wrote this book out of frustration because he was disappointed in the Galatians for turning away from his teachings so quickly. Paul wanted to let the Galatians know that they are no longer under Jewish law and should not have to be circumcised to follow the Lord; they are free in Christ. Paul spends the majority of passage talking about the Spirit and the flesh. The first thing you should identify is what "the flesh" means. The flesh is a metaphor for our sinful nature, not necessarily referring to the organ, flesh or skin. The Spirit is known as the Holy Spirit or our conscience to make decisions. There is no doubt that the Spirit was powerfully important in the early church and especially among the apostles. Yet in order to understand how the apostles were used of the Spirit, it is imperative to know who the Spirit is. "And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit." (Ephesians 5:18) In New Testament Greek two words meaning "to fill, to fulfill, to complete" are used in association with the Holy Spirit. They are πληρόω and πίμπλημι. The filling of the Holy Spirit is what enabled these ordinary men to do the extraordinary. The filling of the Spirit is not the same as the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Baptism of the Holy Spirit is what happens at the moment of salvation and is permanent. When a person is filled with the Spirit it is temporary, and is a continual process of being emptied of sin and surrendering in order to be full of the Spirit. To be filled with the Spirit means to be completely controlled not by the flesh, but by the power of the Spirit. These men in the book of Acts certainly knew and experienced the power of the filling of the Holy Ghost. "...they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost..." The Ghost's last words to Hamlet in act I, scene iv, were "Remember me." The first words of the Ghost's sole speech in act III, scene iv, will be "Do not forget." But by this time Hamlet is not remembering his father: he is replacing him. The reemergence of the buried dead––the intervention of the Ghost in this scene––has always been a source of great controversy and general dismay. Eleanor Prosser speaks for many when she says, "The final appearance of the Ghost presents an insoluble problem. Every theory about its purpose is faced with some contradiction." To Prosser, the Ghost's appearance "has served only one purpose: not to lead Gertrude to Heaven but to leave her to Hell."7 Prosser's view illustrates a general tendency to determine once and for all whether the Ghost is a good or an evil spirit and thus to fail to recognize the ambivalence that characterizes the roles, relationships, and structure of the tragedy. Contradictory theories about ghosts' purposes might better be used as pairs than rejected, or regarded as mutually exclusive. The view, for example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 32. Theme Of Revenge In The Spirit Of The Rainforest Spirit of the Rainforest delivers an engaging tale of Yanomamo life through the eyes of Jungleman, a powerful shaman in Venezuela. The novel presents a disturbing sampling of spirit warfare scenes, detailing the transformation of some Yanomami people while initiating a transformation in the worldview of its readers. Members of the culture engage in an endless cycle of slaughtering each other in the name of hatred. The motif of Vengeance lingers throughout the novel. It's motivated by the spirits of the rainforest and causes enormous chaos until it is thwarted by the peace given by Yai Pada (God). Spirit of the Rainforest and recent research demonstrate the necessity of forgiveness for personal growth and their relation to the spirit realm. According to the accounts recorded in Spirit of the Rainforest, blood revenge is a prevalent motivator of Yanomamo killings. "The Oxford English Dictionary defines revenge as both an act and a desire. In the act of revenge, individuals respond to a wrong by harming the transgressor. Revenge can also refer to the urge to pay back wrongs; thus, a person can have 'revenge in his heart'" (Schumann). The desire for vengeance resulting in murder weaves throughout the novel. Oftentimes, before the genesis of a great conflict, a Yanomamo witnesses the death of relative, allows anger to fester inside of him, dreams of revenge, then follows the promptings of a spirit to go and commit heinous crimes. This ultimately results in celebration immediately followed by fear, unrest, and chaos. Thus, the cycle of vengeance and grief spirals on in accordance with the will of the evil spirits. One example of this cycle can be found in the story of Hairy and Yellowflower. After Yellowflower's sister dies, Hairy forces her to marry him. After she repeatedly runs away Hairy murders her in the jungle. Then, her brothers come to avenge her death by beating Hairy's brother, which results in his death. So, Hairy travels back to her village and "when he got there, they killed that brother and their grief was satisfied" (Ritchie, 106). In short, following the law is compared to hanging on a tree. Thus, law is rendered useless as faith is now available through the Spirit. Furthermore, Paul mentions, "But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, shut up to the faith which should afterwards be revealed," (Galatians 3:23). In the scope of this essay, the traditional Pentecostal understanding will be contrasted with that of the non– Pentecostal/charismatic evangelical tradition. Spirit baptism has very much been the 'crown jewel' of Pentecostalism with its emphasis on power to witness and speaking in tongues. It's fair to say that Pentecostal identity and ideology 'are based at least partly on a specific relationship between biblical texts and the experiences of Christians as transmitted via life stories' (Andersson, 2014, p. 113). What is imperative, is that one doesn't let experience formulate doctrine, but unfortunately for some this is precisely what has happened. Experience has overruled sound exegesis. Pentecostal doctrine and practice is primarily derived from Luke–Acts and is stressed to be subsequent to salvation and evidenced by speaking in tongues. Non–Pentecostals/charismatics, by contrast, understand Spirit baptism to occur simultaneously with conversion (it's inferred by one's salvation) and often without the need of any external evidence. However, what lies at the heart of this issue is not simply a question of timing, but also evidence, and what constitutes biblical Spirit baptism. "The primary role of the Holy Spirit in Luke–Acts is empowerment to witness, not prophecy or conversion. Luke's main point is that Jesus is the Spirit–anointed Messiah and that he both spoke and performed wonders by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thus in Luke–Acts the recipients of the Holy Spirit are, like Moses, 'mighty in word and deeds' (acts 7:22), even as Jesus himself was "might in deed and word (Luke 24:19) Luke does not show as much interest as Paul in the Spirit's role in conversion and who believers are in Christ; rather power for mission catches the majority of Luke's attention fundamental concern is to show how the witness concerning Jesus spread. • 48. Touching Spirit Bear Theme Touching Spirit Bear and Ghost of Spirit Bear both are books that portray great themes, are inspiring, exciting, and a great read. The books Ghost of Spirit Bear and Touching Spirit Bear both have inspiring themes that people can relate to. The theme from Touching Spirit is that you can't let your past get in the way of your future. For example, in Touching Spirit Bear Cole has to help the person he hurt in his past to help him heal. And the theme for Ghost of Spirit Bear is that to win a fight, you don't always have to fight with your fists. Even Garvey said, "'Try fighting with your heart sometime"(Mikaelsen, Ghost 69). Although Ghost of Spirit Bear is the sequel to Touching Spirit Bear, they have many differences. In Ghost of Spirit Bear, the theme will mostly relate to teens because in the book there is a lot of bullying, gangs, and suicide. For example, Cole thought, "Groups of kids hung around outside the school, shoving and slapping at one another and shouting names"(Mikaelsen, Ghost 10). But the theme in Touching Spirit Bear can actually relate to anyone who has made mistakes in their past. And the characters in the first book act much different than in the sequel. For example, Cole was an angry juvenile student in Touching Spirit Bear but he has learned to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 50. Ambiguous Spirit In Hamlet In William Shakespeare's Hamlet, a not so prevalent character but none the less important is the spirit of Hamlet's deceased father, known as Ghost or King Hamlet. Much like other aspects of the story, King Hamlet is a bit of an ambiguous character. To provide some insight into the purpose and/or role of the character Ghost, an understanding of spiritual beliefs during the time of Shakespeare is necessary. Superstitious belief was commonplace in Shakespeare's time. A closer look at Catholic and Protestant beliefs regarding purgatory and spirits in general is warranted. "Shakespeare and his contemporaries were used to entertaining the possibility that they were surrounded by a spirit world, one that for the most part was unseen and unheard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He asks Hamlet to avenge his death. "Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder (1.5.25)." Hamlet is confronted with the decision whether the spirit is his father or a devil in disguise. Hamlet is initially convinced that the spirit is an "honest ghost" when he tells Horatio "Yes, by Saint Patrick, but there is, Horatio.../It is an honest ghost (1.5.136)." Knowing how the story ends, one could make the argument that it was in fact an evil spirit manipulating Hamlet into seeking revenge, ultimately culminating in Hamlet's death by Laertes and the subsequent fall of the Empire. One interesting thought is that if it is a good spirit, why couldn't Hamlet's mother, Gertrude see it? During act III, scene 4 Hamlet see's and hears the ghost but Gertrude cannot (105–142). Could this be an attempt to drive Hamlet mad by a malevolent spirit? Egan claims "The Ghost might be the illusion of an overwrought mind, in the awful scene between the mother and son, when the example of Nero and Agrippina is only too near Hamlet's vengeful mind; but the whole spirit of the tragedy is against that supposition." There have been, and will be, many interpretations of the relationship between Hamlet and the ghost. While we do have a lot of context via research to base our opinions on, unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) there will probably never be a definitive answer to this question. • 52. Spirit Of The Rainforest Summary Spirit of the Rainforest is a book written by Mark Andrew Ritchie about the Yanomamö people of the Amazon. However, the story is told from the perspective of "Jungleman" a shaman of the people. Jungleman is a powerful shaman who knows the realities of both the spirit world and the physical world. His narrative helps the reader understand how important the spirit world is for the Yanomamö people. Through his storytelling, he highlights the role of shamans in the culture, customs of his people, and how those customs were affected when the nabas came. At a young age, the spirits began talking to Jungleman through inanimate objects. He didn't understand how the trees or the logs could be talking, but soon he realized it was spirits that were communicating with him. He became a shaman and learned to welcome them, relying on them to lead him. He took ebene and danced with them.Every night he talked with them and asked them for advice. After the raid on Potato village, he turned to his spirits to guide him on what was next for his people. "'What shall we do now...' I asked Jaguar Spirit and the others...''" (Ritchie,41) As Jungleman gained experience, he became an influential shaman. His spirits helped him to heal sickness as well as take revenge on his enemies. In the spirit world, he was able to see things that happened in other villages, battle with other shamans and try to save children from the great evil spirit Yai Pada. • 54. The Holy Spirit Is God The Holy Spirit is God Himself. He is a person that we can have a personal relationship with. Also, the Holy Spirit is the one that God gave to us as a guide, to direct and teach us in living a Holy life (King James Version, John 14:16). The Holy Spirit is the voice inside of us that tells us when something is not right with the choices that we have made. The voice inside of us comes from God, who loves and cares enough to show us our error that we have made. Also, the Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity; where God transformed into three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. When a person is born again, they believe and receive Jesus Christ (John 1:12–13), God comes through people's life through the Holy Spirit (1Cor.3:16). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Holy Spirit also acts in non–believers as well. The Holy Spirit makes people feel guilty about the things that they have done and helps them to ask for God forgiveness on their sin. (John 16:8– 11). The Holy Spirit pulls on our hearts and minds asking us to repent and turn to God for forgiveness and a new life. When the Apostle Paul was planting church in his missionary journey, he preached lots about the duty of the Holy Spirit, and the role that he plays in our lives for example in Roman 8:1–8. In view of this scripture, there is a very distinct difference between the human flesh and the Holy Spirit. The Apostle Paul said that as long we become Christian, the Spirit of Jesus Christ has set us free from the worldly law of sin. Whatever the flesh could not do Jesus Christ has come to paid it all and to set us free from condemnation. What is the Activity of the Holy Spirit? The Bible talks about several roles that the Holy Spirit plays in the lives of people today. The first thing that the Holy Spirit does is he provides conviction of sin to all people. John 16:8 said, "And when he comes, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment". Also, the Holy Spirit works in several ways for many believers that follow Christ. One of the roles that He works is to serve as a comforter and a helper in our daily life. • 58. The Doctrine Of The Holy Spirit Ever "since the Council of Chalcedon in 451, Gregory has been honored with the title "the theologian" for his definitive teaching on the Trinity in the late–fourth century." This has been bestowed to him because of his precise theological works "that helped to shift the official orthodoxy of the church and empire from the homoian doctrine supported by [the Arians] to the fully Trinitarian" faith that was confirmed at the Council of Constantinople in 381 AD. One of the arguments presented against Nazienzus is that the Spirit is not fully deified as the Father and the Son are deified. The Arian theology asserts that the Spirit is an illuminator that gives people the power to become right with God, but it is not on the same level as God. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Arians believed that the Spirit has the "power of sanctification and instruction," but lacks the qualifications of the Godhead. This proposal is clearly heresy, but it comes surprisingly close to orthodoxy. The Holy Spirit described as an activity vaguely covers the qualities of the Holy Spirit, part of the reason that this debate was not resolved within the first few years of its proposal. Nazienzus nevertheless refutes this in his Five Theological Orations by posing the follow question: The Holy Ghost must certainly be conceived of either as in the category of the Self–existent, or as in that of the things which are contemplated in another; of which classes those who are skilled in such matters call the one Substance and the other Accident. Now if He were an Accident, He would be an Activity of God, for what else, or of whom else, could He be, for surely this is what most avoids composition? And if He is an Activity, He will be effected, but will not effect and will cease to exist as soon as He has been effected, for this is the nature of an Activity. How is it then that He acts and says such and such things, and defines, and is grieved, and is angered, and has all the qualities which belong clearly to one that moves, and not to movement? But if He is a Substance and not an attribute of Substance, He will be conceived of either as a Creature of God, or as God." This being said, it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 62. The Spirit Of The Holy Spirit Most of my ministry career has been spent trying to house break the Holy Spirit. As a young man I saw so many instances of ministers manipulating people to try and drum up the Holy Spirit or the people to receive the Holy Spirit that I thought the Holy Spirit needed our help if He was to move in the lives of people. I had never really seen the work or manifestations of the Holy Spirit outside of a southern Pentecostal setting. Furthermore, as a young man, I was always impressed with the Evangelist who stopped at nothing to start revival. I not only stopped believing in the power of the Holy Spirit, I doubted His intentions to allow such things to happen. So my interest in an academic understanding of the Holy Spirit is insatiable. There has to be more to the Holy Spirit than just speaking in tongues. This new understanding of the history and working of the Holy Spirit has opened my eyes to the narrow mindedness of my Pneumatology. I now recognize the Holy Spirit in our services more than in the past. I also rely more heavily on the Holy Spirit's leading in the direction of our ministry, both in services and in meetings. This has given your congregation new confidence in the Holy Spirit as the Comforter, Director, and Encourager of their lives. The fullness of the Holy Spirit is not just relegated to the manifestations of gifts, but we begin to rely on His direction and leading. We have a rich heritage and Pentecostal history. • 64. The Holy Spirit : The Holy Spirit Of God The Holy Spirit of God is the active force or power in one's life, which most certainly includes spiritual formation (Pettit, 2008, p. 46). When Jesus was speaking with his disciples he made it clear – by using the analogy of a vine and branches – that apart from him they could do nothing (John 15:5). Only if one is connected to Christ will they have the ability to bear fruit and the way Jesus empowers those connected to him is through the Holy Spirt that that father will send in his name (John 14:26). The fact is that the triune God dwells in the Christian in and through the Holy Spirit. One sees this when they place multiple passages together to gain a full understanding of this concept. For example, Jesus made it clear that he and the father would come and make their home with the disciple (John 14:23). In 1 Corinthians 6:19 Paul reminds the Corinthians that their bodies are the very temple of God because the Holy Spirit dwells in them which is similar to what Jesus said would happen when he sent the Holy Spirit after his resurrection and ascension (John 14:17, 16:7). The fact that those who are connected to Christ are indwelt by the Trinity and empowered by the Spirit of God remains true for Christians today. In Acts 1:8 Jesus had promised the disciples power when the Holy Spirit came upon them and in Acts 2:38 Peter, having preached Christ crucified and raised from the dead, made it clear that those who, by faith, were baptized into Christ would receive the gift of the ... According to Arnold Neumaier, a spirit is a force that influences the will of people. Spirits are able to make your body do things that you particularly would not choose to do on your own. The scenario of which I was in the presence of a spirit myself is not only peculiar but also unnerving to talk about. It's common for most people to be cynical about the paranormal world until they individually experience what a spirit can truly do to the living. Music And Music: Spirit, Soul, And Body Spirit, Soul and Body Music is the only medium that blesses both man and God at the same time and as such to see it as an entertainment factor within our worship services is a gross misunderstanding of its purpose. Music is made up of three elements: melody, harmony, and rhythm. Mankind is also made up of three parts: spirit, soul and body (1 Thess 5:23). It can be argued that music and the triune, or trichotomy, of mankind are intrinsically linked i.e. melody is likened to the spirit, harmony to the soul and rhythm to the body. Let's look at the link between music and the triune man more closely. 1. Spirit and Melody The word of God enables us to know God and be conscious of Him (Heb 4:12). • 72. The Spirit Of The Holy Spirit What captured my attention immediately after reading this section was one specific word, fearless. #259. "Spirit–filled evangelizers means evangelizers fearlessly open to the working of the Holy Spirit." Pope Francis is not redefining anything but encouraging us to fearlessly be open to the Holy Spirit. I can count how many times I have been hindered or even paralyzed out of fear. I think admitting we have fear and identifying its true meaning and where it's coming from is what will ignite the spirit Pope Francis wants us to have. We have a choice, we can fuel our fears or face them head on knowing we have the gift of the Holy Spirit. I am actively trying to choose the latter every moment I can, easier said than done. The way we counter fear is with fortitude. Fortitude is a cardinal virtue, CCC 1808 "Fortitude is the moral virtue that ensures firmness in difficulties and constancy in the pursuit of the good. It strengthens the resolve to resist temptations and to overcome obstacles in the moral life. The virtue of fortitude enables one to conquer fear, even fear of death, and to face trials and persecutions. It disposes one even to renounce and sacrifice his life in defense of a just cause." • 74. The Spirit Of The Holy Spirit Acts 2:2–21 shows a picture of the community that is filled by the Holy Spirit. The disciples gathered together in one place, and "all of them were fulfilled with the Holy Spirit" (v.4). The scene leaves some people amazed, confused and marveled (v.6–7). Even some thought that the people were drunk (v.13). While many people were perplexed by the work of the Holy Spirit, Peter validates this scene by reciting the prophecy of Joel (v.14–21). This text shows the new understanding of a community of believers with the work of Holy Spirit. What does it mean to be filled with the Holy Spirit? What a Spirit–filled community looks like? How does a Spirit–filled community differ? First of all, the writer of Acts uses the image of fire in v.3. This image reminds of the passage, "He [Jesus] will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire" (Luke 3:16). According to Luke 3:16, the v. 3 can interpret that the writer announces starting of a new community as baptizing the group. After the disciples were baptized (After divided tongues, as of fire appeared among them), they were filled with Holy Spirit in v.4. The writer already mentioned the meaning of being filled with the Holy Spirit in Acts 1:8, "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8). I had read Hailey's post about God being the Gardner and this was a great launching place for our discussion. Sharing parts of the lectures from Mr. Timms and the information from the text provided guidelines for our discussion as well (Boa, 2001). I changed the order of the questions because I felt the chat was better led from the starting point of establishing a base thought for the Holy Spirit. By providing three forms, God has allowed the mind of the human to interact intimately with God. Parents provide physical care, emotional support, and a safety net through the growing up process. Jiminy provides ideas, guidance, warnings, and support but Pinocchio has to make his own decisions for his own actions.
