WHAT IS A SMARTPHONE?
• Smartphones uses the same technology as normal mobile phones to make and
receive calls. They can send text messages, pick up voicemails and do all the other
things you might want from a mobile phone.
• However, the difference is that the smartphones tend to have big, clear screens
which are often touch-sensitive and take up the entire front of the phone.
• They also have powerful computer chips and a fast data connection.
• Most smartphones have camera and also GPS chips, and you can also download and
install different application to perform particular tasks.
WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH SMARTPHONE
• Accessing websites while you’re out.
• Sending and receiving email, so you can reply more quickly.
• Taking photos and videos.
• Listening to music and recording audio.
• Viewing and editing documents.
• Checking your diary and adding new appointments.
Size, weight and battery life are the key things to look at when you choose a
smartphone. With their big screens and powerful computer chips, smartphones can
run out of power faster than normal mobile phones.
WHAT IS ANDROID?
• Android is an operating system (OS) for smartphones developed by
Google, similar to the way in which Windows is an OS for PCs. It’s the
software that constantly runs on the phone, managing its more basic
functions and supporting any apps (applications) that are run on top
of it.
• Android is the most popular OS platform for smartphone in the world.
• It has a market share of 75% and is the biggest competitor of Apple
iPhone.
ANDROID KEY BENEFITS AND FEATURES
• It runs on many different smartphones developed by different manufacturers.
• It is capable of most innovations brought by iPhone, such as easy web and email browsing and
a touchscreen menu. However, Android has its own innovation which is adopted by iPhone
such as multitasking.
• Like iPhones, Android phones have their own ‘app store’ in the form of Google Play. As of
October 2012 some 700,000 apps were available, everything from word processing, games,
price comparisons, photography and video to travel, news and painting – the list is huge.
• Android is an ‘open source’ system and, as such, is far more easily modified and personalized
than the iPhone’s IOS. Its app store is also less restrictive.

• Slim and lightweight, tablets are a new type of internet-enabled

• They were introduced to the market with the launch of Apple iPad in
2010.
• Since then many competitors have released tablets including
Samsung, Google and Amazon, though Apple remains the market
leader and the name most people thick of when considering a tablet.
DO I NEED A TABLET, LAPTOP OR
SMARTPHONE?
• Although tablets are capable of running work applications they are
mainly useful for entertainment on the go.
• If you’re looking for a device to work comfortable and long periods of
time, or to store lots of data, then it is better to use laptop.
• Tablets are simple to use and easy to carry around with you, it can be
turned on quickly, thus providing instant access to the Internet or
your apps.

or extra expense
