Simple machines include the lever, wheel and axle, inclined plane, screw, and pulley. They make work easier by reducing the amount of force needed. Compound machines contain two or more simple machines. Examples given are a stapler, which uses a lever and wedge, and a can opener, which uses a wheel and axle, wedge, gears, and lever. Both the stapler and can opener are described as being located in a living room or kitchen, respectively.
