Chronic Kidney Disease Essay
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a worldwide problem that is currently three times higher for
African Americans, Hispanics, Pacific Islanders, American Indians and seniors (The National
Kidney Foundation, 2013). CKD occurs when the kidneys are damaged by a pathogen or injury
and they can no longer adequately maintain proper levels of regulated chemicals in the
bloodstream. There are many risk associated with CKD. According to the National Kidney
Foundation, two of the major risks are Chronic Renal Failure(CRF) and Cardiovascular Disease.
Currently twenty million American adults have CKD and millions of others are at increased risk.

Injury to the glomerulus and the tubules presents the onset of Intra renal failure (Matzke, 2011).
Some of the frequent causes for Intra renal failure are glomerulonephritis; pyelonephritis; and
tubular injury. Post renal failure develops from things like ureteroliths, tumors, or anatomic
impediments. Opposite of the acute form, the chronic form has a slow onset that has no early stage
symptoms. It is important to know that following an acute episode a chronic renal episode often
follows, and at this juncture the damage is irreversible. Glomerulonephritis and pyelonephritis
combined, has been reported to be the forerunner in as much as half the cases from acute to chronic
renal failure. Diabetes mellitus, renal vascular disease, such as atherosclerosis, hypertension,
polycystic kidney disease, drug damage, and nephrolith are all examples of other causes of
CKD (Pradeep, 2014). Biopsies of kidneys that suffered with CKD reveal smaller kidneys with
scarring on the tubules. Causes of kidney disease are wide ranging in number; however diabetes,
high blood pressure, inherited disease, and infection remain to be the contenders of cause
(Davidson, 2011). Acute kidney disease can be identified by anuria and oedema. CKD is often
called a silent killer, because instead of a sign, that would render immediate evidence, CKD only
provides symptoms that many don t know to correlate to renal issues. The symptoms may also
increase at the latter stages of the

Analyzing Budweiser Commercial Born The Hard Way
Attention grabber will go here. Background information will go here. In this essay I will analyze
the Budweiser commercial Born The Hard Way by summarizing the text, applying the storytelling
and race analytical methods, and discussing a source which strengthens the claim that this video
ultimately supports American hegemony and ideology. Summary The Budweiser commercial,
Born the Hard Way , which I will refer to as the text , begins with a medium shot of the
protagonist, Adolphus Busch in a bar. A person nearly off the right side of the frame comments (in
an accent) that the protagonist doesn t look like he s from around here . The commercial then uses
flashback to show the journey the protagonist has taken to get to the, as yet unspecified... Show

The first example is an allusion to the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn wherein our protagonist is
shown on a riverboat with a free black man presumably somewhere along the Mississippi. This
allusion contrasts to the immigrant s story of the protagonist and places into historical context the
less than immigrant status of black people who were already living in America at the time, while at
the same time showing how these two communities were connected and had something in common.
The second example of intertextuality would be to that of the Martin Scorsese film, Gangs of New
York , specifically in the go back home scene of the text. In Scorsese s text, immigrants are one the
one hand shown as being criminals, but on the other are also as being discriminated against to such
a degree that it was very difficult for them to integrate into the wider American culture. Our text
acknowledges this aspect of American history through this intertextuality but by showing our
protagonist in a positive light and not being embittered or turning to crime it rejects the idea that
immigrants are criminals and argues they are vital to America s economic and cultural success. I
admit to enjoying both of these intertextual examples and I felt they were appropriate to the story

In Order To Better Understand Justice Antonin Scaliaв
Ђ™S
In order to better understand Justice Antonin Scalia s approach towards judicial interpretation it is
essential that we first distinguish the difference between common law and statutory law. Common
law according to Scalia is judge made law where precedents are established and used to decide
future cases. On the other hand, statutory lawis written law that is set down by legislators. Scalia
makes the argument in which he explains that judges abuse their power by interpreting statutory
text in the way a common law judge would interpret common law. In turn Justice Antonin Scalia
offers his judicial interpretation approaches as solutions to constrain judges who abuse their power.
Justice Antonin Scalia was an originalist and a textualist... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another critical problem that is addressed by Scalia is the idea of legislative history . Legislative
history is basically the process within congress leading up to the passing of a statute. Committee
reports, floor debates, testimonies and other history that occurred while the statute was being
constructed is what judges go to when they want the decision to go in their favor (Scalia, 1997).
Finding the subjective intent of a statue and looking into the legislative history poses a threat on
our democracy. Scalia strongly upholds his belief that, it is the law that governs, not the intent of
the lawgiver (1997 p.17), and provides to us what exactly this threat or practical threat as he labels
it on our democracy is:
Under the guise or even the self delusion of pursuing unexpressed legislative intents, common law
judges will in fact pursue their own objectives and desires, extending their lawmaking proclivities
from the common law to the statutory field. (Scalia, 1997 pp.17 18)
Although Scalia refers to legislative intent in his quote, his idea still applies to the basic fact
regarding the law as not what the text says, but what the writers meant. He explains that when
judges take these approaches to interpret laws, they are playing common law judge in the wrong
type of law and therefore abusing their powers. Judges are not on the bench to create laws; that
power belongs to the legislators. Scalia

Here, you do not have to restrict yourself to think about the very obvious options, rather you can
use your creative skills and come out with alternatives that may look a little irrelevant. This is
important because sometimes solutions can come out from these out of the box ideas. You would
also have to do adequate research to come up with the necessary facts that would aid in solving
the problem. By interacting with customers he gathered fresh ideas that require comfortable seats
and entertainment in flights at low cost. And also a formal recovery plan when all gates is engaged

Evaluate the Alternatives: This can be said to be the one of the most important stages of the
decision making process. This is the stage where you have to analyze each alternative you have
come up with. You have to find out the advantages and disadvantages of each option. This can be
done as per the research you have done on that particular alternative. At this stage, you can also
filter out the options that you think are impossible or do not serve your purpose. Rating each

The operations manager was selected to also provide input on what reports would be helpful and
also give input on how room scheduling will be beneficial. I will be acting as an external
facilitator. Although I am not external to the college, I am external to the division. I thought
this was important because I will still have an understanding of what this division is its
background and the college but I won t be an added cost. For this group I will select a
participative style of leadership. Participative leadership is a managerial style that invites input
from employees on all company decisions. The staff is given pertinent information regarding
company issues, and a majority vote determines the course of action the company will take.
Participative leadership can sometimes be a slower form of decision making, but it has several
advantages that may make it the right managerial method for your business. (George N. Root III)
I have selected this leadership style since I will have no decision making power. I will begin this
facilitation process by focusing on the following things; Environment, Logistics and Room
Arrangements and establishing ground Rules. Having a safe and comfortable environment is
important for the members of the group. This will help the group members want to interact with
each other and want to participate in the group. I will make sure that the locations are in known
places. I will also rotate

Gender s Role in College Sports Essay
Gender s Role in College Sports
Throughout generations, humans have played organized games and sports. For that same amount
of time, it has been instilled that men are faster, stronger, and just plain better at athletics. We also
have come to realize that the slower, weaker, and not as good women make up for physical strength
with mental prowess, to succeed on the playing fields and courts of the world. However, this
concept has not caught up with athletic directors, coaches, and trustees boards across the country.
Women s athletics is still not given the financial backing, the practice facilities, the correct training

Geno Auriemma, coach of the UConn s Women s Basketball team, has a record of 393 95 (.805)

winning percentage, and more national championships the women s coach would be paid better.
Yeah okay, this is America. Geno Auriemma s salary was about $ 250,000 for the year, while his
male coaching counterpart made $ 875,000. (March 2000 issue of Connecticut Magazine) This
practice is actually quite common. Seniority or winning does not earn more money, because it is
believed that the men s game is harder to coach then the women s game. Umm #8230; am I

the Detroit Free Press coaches of women s teams, earn 67 cents to every dollar that a coach of a

women s program. The Detroit Free Press analysis shows women s sports get 25 percent of the
athletic budgets, 27 percent of the recruiting dollars and 38 percent of the financial aid. The
average Big 12 School spent an average of 2.2 million dollars on its men s programs. The

Narcotic Dressing Methods
Pain is the most predominant symptom experience after an injury and dressing changes only add to
the pain. A method is required to decrease the amount of pain during a dressing change to help
promote wound healing and increase hand function (Guo, Deng, Yang, 2014). Some of the
treatments we use presently in the hospital to decrease pain, such as analgesics, can cause
respiratory depression, decrease bloodpressure and other side effects (Guo et al., 2014, p.116).
Another treatment used is a narcotic dressing which can significantly increase the cost of treatment.

Guo et al. s (2014) states that when analgesics are unavailable, this tool is convenient for nurses
to use. There are many resources necessary to implement virtual reality distraction. The study
used many devices including: a pair of ultra high resolution 3D glasses, headphones, mouse,
computer and the 3D film (Guo et al., 2014). These resources may not be readily available in
undeveloped Countries. They also may have a large cost that some hospitals may not be able to
afford. This can be another limitation in regards to who is able to access the resource. In the
future, knowing that a patient s pain can be relieved by nonpharmacological means will help
provide better care. Many patients do not like taking analgesics in fear that they will become
addicted. This method may help alleviate the patients anxiety since the fear of addiction is not
present if they are not taking analgesics. The institution that the patient is receiving care at may not
have the resources needed for virtual reality. However, knowing that the pain is decreased with
virtual reality distraction will allow nurses to adapt this method to what they have available. For
example, allowing the patient to watch television, listen to music, or play a game on their mobile
devise will help distract them during the dressing change.

Bruce Springsteen Rough Draft

The article The National Conversation in the Wake of Littleton is Missing the Mark By Jackson
Kats and Sut Jhally is about finding the cause of violence and relating it to students who dispense
harm to society, as well as other students. There is a focus on masculinity, along with behavior and
how that behavior is being influenced by the environment. The article focuses on factors such as
peer exclusion, the prevalence of violencein the media and most importantly, violence in relation to

In relation to gender, masculinity plays a crucial role in shaping ego and self esteem. While

While studying a topic which has a cause and effect relationship to societal norms, we can apply
two major theories to help understand the influences shaping our perceptions and mental
processes; the first being conflict theory. Conflict theory focuses on society as a whole. While
trying to find correlations between violence and masculinity, the role of society has a large
influence. It decides whether or not you meet societal norms and if you do not, you are seen as
unequal and less than those who do. This is demonstrated in the Columbine section of the
chapter where Katz and Jhally mention dominant male athletes did not hide their distance for
those who did not fit in. ( gender and sexuality ) This implies to us the shooters most likely acted
out by using violence because they were deemed less than the jocks and a separate social class.
In this chapter, there is also a focus on dominance, power and control. There is a relation to
conflict theory in this idea because it acknowledges the desire of privilege. As many try to increase

The Decline Of The Twentieth Century
1. Introduction
One of the major medical achievements of the twentieth century was the dramatic increase in
the average global life expectancy. In 1950, the global median age was 23.6 years; by the year
2000, it rose to 26.4 a gain of three years. The United Nations has projected that by the year 2050,
the median age will jump to 37 years a ten year gain (Kochhar, 2014). People are living longer. At
the same time, people are having fewer children. The consequence will be a situation without
precedent: by the year 2020, there will be more of people over 65 years of age than children.
World Health Organization (WHO) and many of the developed as well as developing nations
are raising questions such as В¬ Will longer lives result in longer periods of good health, longer
periods of productive careers and social engagements, or will old age mean prolonged illness,
disability, and dependency on family and the State. How will the healthcare and social costs be
borne by high income and low income nations? Managing the demographic forces will require
creation of institutions and infrastructures that may seem costly; waiting could be costlier
(Dobrianskt, Suzman and Beard 2011). The first part of the paper describes the projected changes in

The effect of music on postoperative pain and anxiety was studied on an orthopedic unit in a

many total knee arthroplasty patients experience after surgery is moderate to severe postoperative
pain and increased anxiety. Throughout the introduction of the study, it was stressed the importance
and need for this research to be conducted. The authors discussed the effects of inadequately treated
pain and how health care professionals, including nursing, should make it a priority in a patient s

The researchers included both a hypothesis and research questions. They stated a hypothesis,
however it is a research hypothesis versus a null hypothesis. A research hypothesis explains there is
correlation between two or more variables. A null hypothesis is a classification of hypotheses that
states there is no connection between the independent and dependent variables. Statistical testing is
performed to determine whether the statement is acceptable or not. Whereas the research question
is an analysis statement detailing the variables and population of the specified research study
(Adams, 2015). The hypothesis, the authors were hoping to prove, was whether the use of music
would reduce pain and anxiety in postoperative pain in a particular patient population during a
defined time frame (Allred et al., 2010). An example of a null hypothesis for this study would state
music would have no effect on postoperative pain in a particular patient population during a defined
time frame. There were four research questions the researchers attempted to answer. Three of the
four questioned the effect of music on the patient s pain, anxiety, and physiologic parameters.
However the fourth question pertained to the impact of music on the amount of opioids taken from
the beginning of the intervention until six hours later (Allred et al., 2010). The clinicians had not

Symbolism In Crooked River Burning By Mark Winegardner
Most novels include some type of symbolism that plays an important role in the dynamic and the
plot development of their storyline. In the novel Crooked River Burning by Mark Winegardner,
one symbol remains prevalent throughout the entire book. The city of Cleveland and the crooked
Cuyahoga river plays an incredible role in the interconnections between the characters of the story.
As the Cuyahoga river divides the East and West sides of the city, it also, in turn, divides the two
star crossedlovers Anne O Connor and David Zielinsky. However, the thing that makes them so
different is also the very thing that brings them together. The downfall and upbringing of Cleveland
directly influences and nearly parallels the complicated and ever changing relationship between
Anne and David. Cleveland is described as one of the greatest cities in the world at the beginning
of this novel. The Indians are having a winning season and have started integrating their team, Elliot
Ness is taking down crime left and right with the Untouchables, Dorothy Fuldheim is reinventing
United States television as she becomes the first woman news anchor in history, the local
newspapers are soaring in sales and publicity, and Alan Freedis creating rock and roll through his
radio show. The two main characters of the novel, David Zielinsky and Anne O Connor, both
witness these successes and innovations firsthand, albeit in slightly different ways. David grows up

This is because of the nature of Mogen s business, wherein most of the company s assets are
intangibles, which is typical of a risky company. This makes issuance of straight debt more
expensive at around 5.75%, as the market will demand higher premium.
Given the above market perception of risk and growth opportunity, issuing a convertible bond is
appropriate because it would allow the company to raise capital at more advantageous terms than
it would when it issues straight debt. Investors would be willing to supply funds at a lower rate if
they can have the opportunity to benefit from the upside potential of the stock. Hence, the value of

Ik Entry Draft Essay
One of the most fluid and insanely unpredictable weeks in recent NHL memory is now over with
the conclusion of the 2017 NHL entry draft. Prior to that, we had the Vegas Golden Knights
expansion draft, awkwardly held in the middle of an awards gala, and some good old fashioned
wheeling and dealing. General managers have now returned home to celebrate their victories, or
size up their losses, with five days before unrestricted free agency, which begins this Saturday, July
1. For New York Islanders general manager Garth Snow, it was a whirlwind of three transactions
that, by most accounts, saw him come out victorious in two with a decision on the third pending.
Snow did well to protect from expansion his most coveted assets, on both offense... Show more

As valued as Hamonic was to New York on the ice and in the locker room, as well as in the
community, Snow did right by the player in granting his request while, at the same time, not
crippling the organization by making a bad deal. Prior to completing the move of Hamonic to
the Flames, there was plenty of interest in the hardnosed, competitive and passionate
defenseman. Toronto Maple Leafs manager Lou Lamoriello engaged Snow in discussions that
went far beyond setting initial parameters. There was a deal reportedly in place that was
centered around Hamonic and 28 year old winger James Van Reimsdyk that multiple sources
told SNY fell apart due to the Islanders being on the players 10 team no trade list in addition to
concerns over a contract extension, given that Van Reimsdyk will be an unrestricted free agent
next July. What Snow chooses to do with the draft picks obtained in the last trade will be crucial
to his final grade on the off season. With the unrestricted free agent market looking as barren as
the Sahara desert, does Snow package those picks in a creative offer to unfreeze Matt Duchene
from the clutches of Joe Sakic? Does he call Marc Bergevin in Montreal and get a concrete
answer on what Alex Galchenyuk will cost? Does he go back to the well and get McPhee on the
line, and inquire about James Neal? With no major assets being traded in

Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH)
Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a progressive disorder, characterized by right heart
catheterization, as a mean arterial pressure 25mmHg at rest in the pulmonary arteries. If left
untreated, this can lead to right ventricular failure and ultimately death. PAH can be either
idiopathic or concomitant with several other conditions. Following considerable deliberation, the
World Health Organisation (WHO) has classified PAH into five major diagnostic categories (Table
1)(1). Currently there are several pharmacological treatment options for PAH which include
endothelial receptor antagonists (ERA), calcium channels blockers, prostanoids and
phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE5). Nevertheless, novel therapies are still in development.

Transcription of ET 1 can be upregulated by various stimuli some of which include hypoxia, shear
stress and pH.
ET 1 receptors
ET 1 activates two subtypes of endothelin receptors (ETA and ETB receptors) which are guanine
nucleotide binding proteins(4). The two receptors have different locations within the vasculature
and mediate different downstream pathways. As a result, ET 1 can have diverse effects on the
vasculature.
The vasoconstrictive effects of ET 1 are a result of predominately ETA and, to a lesser extent, ETB
receptors which are expressed on vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). Activation of these
receptors leads to IP3 mediated increases in intracellular calcium from sarcoplasmic reticulum
stores(4). This rise in intracellular calcium, results in increased smooth muscle contraction and
subsequent vasoconstriction. Mitogenic effects of ET 1 can also be seen by activation of both
receptors which results in VSMC proliferation and thus contributes to

Dna Synthesis Case Study
To achieve accuracy of DNA replication after the unwinding of DNA, the DNA must be
synthesized. DNA synthesis, in the case, the two strands are disconnected and then turned into
single stranded DNA. This is called replication fork. The replication fork acts as a model for DNA
synthesis. However, the site of impaired or mutated DNAcan cause a lower rate pf success for
DNA synthesis. Impaired DNA can also lead to unprocessed and unligated okazaki fragments.
Okazaki frgaments are small DNA fragments that are linked to the lagging strand of DNA. The
research article suggest that okazaki fragemts should be tracked for the benefit of cancer patients.

An ubiquitin can change the way a cell functions or even where the call is located. The
researchers then use a cdc9 with a wild type of DNA ligase 1 to determine whether PCNA
ubiquitination happens because of the nicked DNA or because of the lack of PCNA DNA
ligase interaction. While reviewing this, they noticed that the cdc9 mutants come to a halt
during the later phases of the cell cycle and they collect unligated okazaki fragments. THis
proves that PCNA ubiquitination occurs because of the nicked DNA. The nicks are left behind
for repairin the last phase of the cell cycle, G2. Although they discovered this, they alos
discovered that breaks in the DNA were present in the cdc9 mutants. They caused the replication
forks to be held up. These breaks need to be repair via HR. To repair the breaks they suggest
RAD52 to be used. Unfortunately, RAD52 was unsuccessful and did not interact with the mutant.
They then test if RAD59 can be used to repair the breaks. THey recognize that RAD59 played an
important role in supporting the kinase needed for checkpoint activation of the cell cycle, known s
Mec1. However, RAD59instead deactivated Mec1 by restraining a protein coding gene called

Bullying And Its Effects On Children
2.2 Overview: In the next 7 minutes, a child in the U.S. will be bullied. It may be the son or
daughter of someone you know. Worse, it may be your own. Meanwhile, only four out of 100
adults will step in to stop it. And only 11 percent of the child s peers might do the same. The rest
85 percent will do nothing. Every day in America, more than 160,000 children miss school out of
fear of being bullied, according to National Education Association estimates. Bullyingtakes many
forms, ranging from the seemingly innocuous name calling to the more harmful cyberbullying to
severe physical violence. It happens everywhere, at all times to the most vulnerable of kids,
especially those who are obese, gay or have a disability. And besides the physical, emotional and
psychological tolls it imposes on victims, bullying produces adverse socioeconomic outcomes. The
Association for Psychological Science recently found that those who are bullies, victims or both
are more likely to experience poverty, academic failure and job termination in their adulthood. In
addition, they are likelier to commit crime and abuse drugs and alcohol. For schools, the financial
burden caused by bullying is not to be ignored, either. According to a National Association of
Secondary SchoolPrincipals report, the average public school can incur more than $2.3 million in
lost funding and expenses as a result of suspensions, expulsions, vandalism, alternative placement

The Importance Of Living In Chagrin Falls, Ohio
Chagrin Falls, Ohio is often referred to as a bubble town which accurately embodies its nickname.
Having lived in Chagrin my entire life, I reluctantly agree with the Urban Dictionary definitions of
usually a small town where very few events of interest occur or a sheltered and naive place to live,
where youth can t understand the cruelty of the realworld because they re too sheltered by their
protective bubble. Reading our weekly town police blotter sheds light that a cat getting locked in a
closet is big news and that this little town in Cuyahoga County is a bit isolated and ignorant to the
outside world. This little town is all about the Friday Night Lights where our high school football
team is the center focus having made multiple visits to the state championship. These facts transpire
as the reason I try to defy this reputation. Despite the influence that one s surroundings can hold
over their life, I believe that this remains easy only with complacency. I have been one of two in my
high school that have participated in nationwide golf tournaments. Incidentally, the second guy

The Drover Wife And The Chosen Vessel By Barbara Baynton
Throughout history, Australian has always been perceived as a land of men. This is due to the
colonization of Australian during the eighteen and nineteen century, where men are seen inferior to
women. They also are domesticated within the house duties that the society has influence because
of their gender. Although, Henry Lawson the drover wife and The Chosen Vessel by Barbara
Baynton challenges the Australian society through Australian literature by placing women in harsh
environments. The drover wife is short stories about women who face the new obsolesce while
living within the harsh environments. The Chosen Vessel has a similar aspect of the drover wife

Example Of Greedy Algorithm
3 Greedy Algorithm
Greedy technique is an algorithm design policy, built on configurations such as different choices,
values to find objective .Greedy algorithms produce good solutions on mathematical problems. The
main aim is to find some configurations that are either maximized or minimized. Greedy
Algorithms provide a solution for optimization problems that has certain sequence of steps, with a
set of choices for each step. Another solution for Greedy algorithm is dynamic programming . It is
also used to determine the best choices. But greedy algorithm always makes the choice that is best
at the moment to provide the optimal solution for the problem. A greedy algorithm for an
optimization always provides the current sub solution. Basically greedy algorithm always gives an
optimal solution to the MST (Minimum Spanning tree)problem. Some Examples that are solved by
greedy algorithm are Dijkstra s shortest path algorithm and Prim/Kruskal s algorithms.
Greedy algorithm technique relies on following elements:
configurations: It consists of different choices, values to apply on data.
objective : some configurations to be either maximized or minimized to get the predefined objective.

The Production of Video Games Taught At School
An electronic device in which a player would control the images on the screen is known as
video games (WorldBookStudent). Video games are the basis to why some students do not do
well to school. This is because these students would get the video game addiction in which the
games would take over the lives of a kid. Is this a psychological disorder like the others stated
within the DSM IV? The answer for this is no (CRCHealthGroup). This addiction however is not
a mental disorder, but instead many students may use video games as a stress reducer by
releasing all their energy that they gain during the day on the video games. These students would
only feel that a videogame is more interesting because it would have cool graphics and most
games are multiplayer games which mean that they can play with their friends
(VideoGameAddiction). This cause would lead to the effect of where students do badly in school
because they would be too concentrated in the video games they play that they will have less time
to do any homework which will lead them to not understanding the concept within what the lesson
is about. From this adults can understand how students do not do well when they take tests and
final exams. What can people do about this situation in this case? Since some students within
school are addicted to video games, therefore the school system should provide a career pathway
on how to create and program video games because it will allow these gaming students to participate

Fascism and Nazism Rise
During World War Two, the Axis powers were ran by two different kinds of government ideas. In
Germany the government was Nazism raised by their leader Adolf Hitler. In Italy there was
Fascism ruled by their leader Benito Mussolini. Fascism and Nazism appealed to the people
because how they were living during the time the two came to power. The two main reasons that
made them so appealing were the nationalistic feeling which rose in people and the feeling of a
better lifestyle during economic troubles. These different strategies of government presented false

Fascism was widely practiced in Italy after World War One and during World War Two. The leader

Research Paper On Gloria Steinem
Gloria Steinem was one of the most important leaders of the second wave of the women s rights
movement. As both an indirect and direct leader, she embodied her story by giving speeches
and writing books and articles to help empower women across the United States and beyond. As
she grew up in American society where sexism was present, she told an innovative story with
visionary elements to prove to women that they were more than what society said they were. Her
strong and feisty personality added to her success and I will argue that these factors along with
her appearance helped her to be a major player and the face of the women s rightsmovement.
Gloria Steinem grew up to be a widely known and loved leader of the women s rights movement,
however, it took her a long time to get there. Gloria was born on March 25th, 1934 in Toledo,
Ohio. Both of her parents, Ruth and Leo Steinem, had a significant impact on Gloria. Her

An Intentional Infliction Of Emotional Distress
Question Presented Does Samuel Taylor, the former member of the Local 718 Teamsters Union,
have a cause of action against Ronald Murray, Local 718 business representative, who repeatedly
harassed Taylor for about four months and intentionally inflicted emotional distress which resulted
in Taylor s loss of twenty pounds, extreme nervousness, loss of his union membership and his job?
Brief Answer Probably yes. Under Massachusetts law, a plaintiff has a claim for an intentional
infliction of emotional distressif all of the following elements are satisfied: (1) the defendant
intended, knew or reasonably have known that his conduct will result in the emotional distress;
(2) the defendant s conduct was extreme and outrageous, beyond all possible limits of decency
and utterly intolerable in a civilized community; (3) the defendant s conduct is the cause of the
plaintiff s distress; and (4) the plaintiff s emotional agitation was so severe and of a nature that no
reasonable person could withstand. Here, Murray intended to inflict emotional distress by
harassing Taylor so he would cooperate with the union, it was of extreme and outrageous manner,
when he threatened Taylor s and his wife s life, and caused the emotional agitation so severe,
which no person could be reasonably expected to endure, and as a result, Taylor withdrew his

What Is Edgar Hoover s Role In Criminal Justice
Named by Calvin Coolidge as the sixth director of the Bureau of Investigation, J. Edgar Hoover

youth how different society was just few decades ago, and how long and difficult it was to get to
where we are today. It is also an important reminder to keep striving for equality in our society
today. Finally, this book shows how far dedication, determination, and sacrifice can actually go.
The first reason why Warriors Don t Cry is appropriate for tenth graders is because the book
shows how different society was not to long ago. Today, students in the United States go to school,
sit down, and do work. However, in the 1950s, it may not have been so simple. As seen in Warriors
Don t Cry, integration in Central High School in Little Rock, Arizona was not friendly. The group
of African American students that was integrated, called the Little Rock Nine, had it very rough. The
white students would torment them, discriminate them, and physically harm them every day, just
because of their skin color. Central High School

Ray Bradbury s Short Story The Flying Machine
ENGLISH Task 5; Journal ~ Syairah Abdul Basher
Written Text;
The Flying Machine Ray Bradbury
Mains Ideas Evident In The Text
The Flying Machine explores the idea of new technological improvements with no clear goal;
will they be used to aid humanity or harm it? In one hand, the man creates a flying machine of
bamboo and paper; which allows him to soar in the sky and explore beauty of the land. However,
the inventor only sees the good in his creation. On the other hand, the Emperor sees the negative
consequences of the machine, where he feels the danger of it falling into the evil hands; therefore,
bringing ruin to his people. However, the Emperor has a machine of his own; a miniature toy like
town, where people walk in a same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Flying Machine was set in a Kingdom inside the Great Wall of China around the time period of
400 A.D.
It is set early in the morning, as the emperor states, The air is sweet this morning . The short story
also mentions, Early on the morning of the first day of the first week.. We can assume that the
short story happened around February 1st as the Julian calendar was referred. However, we can
also conclude that it might have happened after February 1st based on the Chinese Lunar calendar.
It mentions in the short story that the land is readying however it doesn t reveal which crops,
therefore we can predict that it is either spring or summer.
This information is significant as it suggests rebirth and a new beginning. The atmosphere created
in the story was peaceful and tranquil which juxtaposes the natural world of the setting to the
mechanical world of the inventor.
Along with setting, the characters also play a major role in The Flying Machine. The main
characters are; Yuan, the emperor of China, the inventor, and the

Analysis Of The Movie Dope
I recently watched the Netflix movie, Dope, a coming of age movie that doubles as a parody
and a dedication to the 1990s vintage ghetto generation. Malcolm and his friends Jib and Diggy
are nerdy high school seniors who bond over anything 90s related, play music together in their
punk band, and have grown up together in The Bottoms, in Inglewood, California. Malcolm was
trying to escape a gang one day when he had an encounter with a neighborhood drug dealer
named Dom. Dom ended up invited him to his birthday party, and with hesitation, Malcolm and
his friends decide to go. After an eventful night, Malcolm and his friends later discover that Dom
had stashed a handgun and a large amount of drugs in his backpack to hide it from the police
who raided the party. The rest of the movie plays out into a war over the drugs that Malcolm
accidentally possessed. Malcolm ends up selling the drugs and promises Dom s prominent
supplier, who was also coincidentally Malcolm s college interviewer, the profits made from the
drugs. Malcolm makes this deal with him only as long as he helps Malcolm achieve his goal of
getting into Harvard. Malcolm ends up setting up the supplier with the police while still getting
into Harvard and finally being able to get out of the hood. In terms of black masculinity, Malcolm
counteracts the hyper aggressive stereotypesthat some have in their head about young African
American men. In the movie Dope, numerous aspects of intersectionality are represented in

Causes of American War of Independence
The Causes of American War of Independence The American Revolutionary War (1775 1783), also
known as the American War of Independence, was a conflict that erupted between Great Britain and
revolutionaries within thirteen British colonies, who declared their independence as the United
States of America in 1776. The war was the culmination of the American Revolution, a colonial
struggle against political and economic policies of the British Empire. The war eventually widened
far beyond British North America; many Native Americans also fought on both sides of the
conflict. Throughout the war, the British were able to use their naval superiority to capture and
occupy coastal cities, but control of the countryside (where most of the... Show more content on

Tens of thousands of slaves escaped to the British lines, although possibly as few as 1,000 served
under arms. Many of the rest served as orderlies, mechanics, laborers, servants, scouts and guides,
although more than half died in smallpox epidemics that swept the British forces, and a number
were driven out of the British lines when food ran low. Despite Dunmore s promises, the majority
were not given their freedom. Due to manpower shortages, Washington lifted the ban on black
enlistment in the Continental Army in January 1776. All black units were formed in Rhode Island
and Massachusetts; many were slaves promised freedom for serving in lieu of their masters.
Another all black unit came from Haiti with French forces. At least 5,000 black soldiers fought for
the Revolutionary cause. Most American Indians east of the Mississippi River were affected by the
war, with many communities dividing over the question of how to respond to the conflict. Most
Native Americans who joined the fight fought against the United States, since native lands were
threatened by expanding American settlement. An estimated 13,000 warriors fought on the British
side; the largest group, the Iroquois Confederacy, fielded about 1,500 men. War in the north, 1775
1777 Before the war, Boston, Massachusetts had been the scene of much revolutionary activity,
leading to the effective abolition of the provincial government of Massachusetts by the British
parliament in

Graham Greene s The Destructors
Graham Greene s The Destructors, initially, can be interpreted as a telling of senseless violence
that is carried out by group of destructive and out of control boys, but, in all actuality, the story
explores an idea that directly relates destruction with the idea of creation. The text utilizes the
destruction of the house to display how the boys are directly destroying their own naive ideals.
Subsequently, creating a better life for themselves, which allow for the old man to move on from
his pre warlife. But, underneath this argument, the text ultimately displays the destruction of Old
England and the rise of the new post war generation. Demonstrating how the moral interpretation of
the story directly symbolizes the overall allegorical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is symbolized by the home being the last remaining piece of the old world that is still
intact; it represents the beauty and the naivete of the pre war world. Now the world is forced to
think more realistically and the people in it understand the ramifications of their actions,
resulting in a negative image being placed on pieces of that world. The boys demonstrate this
idea when they decide to destroy the house even though they found it to be remarkably beautiful
(314). The boys resent the old world for what they had created for the new post world generation.
They even go to the extent to burn the money instead of keeping it for themselves (318). By
destroying the money, the boys show how all pieces of the old world must be destroyed in order
to rebuild what was destroyed. With each piece of house that is torn down, the boys are
metaphorically destroying the last remaining memories of pre war England, resulting in the new
post war generation to completely take over. Subsequently creating a new society in order to create
a new England that better than before, to ensure that the pain and destruction never happens

stakeholders and external stakeholders. Internal stakeholders are participators in the management of
the company who are highly affected by the performance of the company and have vested interest
in the business. (Surbhi, 2015) However, external stakeholders are not a part of the management so
they may or may not be directly affected by the activities of business but use some publicly

  • 3. Chronic Kidney Disease Essay Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a worldwide problem that is currently three times higher for African Americans, Hispanics, Pacific Islanders, American Indians and seniors (The National Kidney Foundation, 2013). CKD occurs when the kidneys are damaged by a pathogen or injury and they can no longer adequately maintain proper levels of regulated chemicals in the bloodstream. There are many risk associated with CKD. According to the National Kidney Foundation, two of the major risks are Chronic Renal Failure(CRF) and Cardiovascular Disease. Currently twenty million American adults have CKD and millions of others are at increased risk. Age has no barrier on getting CKD. Injury to the glomerulus and the tubules presents the onset of Intra renal failure (Matzke, 2011). Some of the frequent causes for Intra renal failure are glomerulonephritis; pyelonephritis; and tubular injury. Post renal failure develops from things like ureteroliths, tumors, or anatomic impediments. Opposite of the acute form, the chronic form has a slow onset that has no early stage symptoms. It is important to know that following an acute episode a chronic renal episode often follows, and at this juncture the damage is irreversible. Glomerulonephritis and pyelonephritis combined, has been reported to be the forerunner in as much as half the cases from acute to chronic renal failure. Diabetes mellitus, renal vascular disease, such as atherosclerosis, hypertension, polycystic kidney disease, drug damage, and nephrolith are all examples of other causes of CKD (Pradeep, 2014). Biopsies of kidneys that suffered with CKD reveal smaller kidneys with scarring on the tubules. Causes of kidney disease are wide ranging in number; however diabetes, high blood pressure, inherited disease, and infection remain to be the contenders of cause (Davidson, 2011). Acute kidney disease can be identified by anuria and oedema. CKD is often called a silent killer, because instead of a sign, that would render immediate evidence, CKD only provides symptoms that many don t know to correlate to renal issues. In this essay I will analyze the Budweiser commercial Born The Hard Way by summarizing the text, applying the storytelling and race analytical methods, and discussing a source which strengthens the claim that this video ultimately supports American hegemony and ideology. Summary The Budweiser commercial, Born the Hard Way , which I will refer to as the text , begins with a medium shot of the protagonist, Adolphus Busch in a bar. A person nearly off the right side of the frame comments (in an accent) that the protagonist doesn t look like he s from around here . The commercial then uses flashback to show the journey the protagonist has taken to get to the, as yet unspecified... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first example is an allusion to the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn wherein our protagonist is shown on a riverboat with a free black man presumably somewhere along the Mississippi. This allusion contrasts to the immigrant s story of the protagonist and places into historical context the less than immigrant status of black people who were already living in America at the time, while at the same time showing how these two communities were connected and had something in common. The second example of intertextuality would be to that of the Martin Scorsese film, Gangs of New York , specifically in the go back home scene of the text. In Scorsese s text, immigrants are one the one hand shown as being criminals, but on the other are also as being discriminated against to such a degree that it was very difficult for them to integrate into the wider American culture. Our text acknowledges this aspect of American history through this intertextuality but by showing our protagonist in a positive light and not being embittered or turning to crime it rejects the idea that immigrants are criminals and argues they are vital to America s economic and cultural success. I admit to enjoying both of these intertextual examples and I felt they were appropriate to the story being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. In Order To Better Understand Justice Antonin Scaliaв Ђ™S In order to better understand Justice Antonin Scalia s approach towards judicial interpretation it is essential that we first distinguish the difference between common law and statutory law. Common law according to Scalia is judge made law where precedents are established and used to decide future cases. On the other hand, statutory lawis written law that is set down by legislators. Scalia makes the argument in which he explains that judges abuse their power by interpreting statutory text in the way a common law judge would interpret common law. In turn Justice Antonin Scalia offers his judicial interpretation approaches as solutions to constrain judges who abuse their power. Justice Antonin Scalia was an originalist and a textualist... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another critical problem that is addressed by Scalia is the idea of legislative history . Legislative history is basically the process within congress leading up to the passing of a statute. Committee reports, floor debates, testimonies and other history that occurred while the statute was being constructed is what judges go to when they want the decision to go in their favor (Scalia, 1997). Finding the subjective intent of a statue and looking into the legislative history poses a threat on our democracy. Scalia strongly upholds his belief that, it is the law that governs, not the intent of the lawgiver (1997 p.17), and provides to us what exactly this threat or practical threat as he labels it on our democracy is: Under the guise or even the self delusion of pursuing unexpressed legislative intents, common law judges will in fact pursue their own objectives and desires, extending their lawmaking proclivities from the common law to the statutory field. (Scalia, 1997 pp.17 18) Although Scalia refers to legislative intent in his quote, his idea still applies to the basic fact regarding the law as not what the text says, but what the writers meant. He explains that when judges take these approaches to interpret laws, they are playing common law judge in the wrong type of law and therefore abusing their powers. Judges are not on the bench to create laws; that power belongs to the legislators. Scalia ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The United Nations has projected that by the year 2050, the median age will jump to 37 years a ten year gain (Kochhar, 2014). People are living longer. In the novel Crooked River Burning by Mark Winegardner, one symbol remains prevalent throughout the entire book. The city of Cleveland and the crooked Cuyahoga river plays an incredible role in the interconnections between the characters of the story. As the Cuyahoga river divides the East and West sides of the city, it also, in turn, divides the two star crossedlovers Anne O Connor and David Zielinsky. However, the thing that makes them so different is also the very thing that brings them together. The downfall and upbringing of Cleveland directly influences and nearly parallels the complicated and ever changing relationship between Anne and David. Cleveland is described as one of the greatest cities in the world at the beginning of this novel. The Indians are having a winning season and have started integrating their team, Elliot Ness is taking down crime left and right with the Untouchables, Dorothy Fuldheim is reinventing United States television as she becomes the first woman news anchor in history, the local newspapers are soaring in sales and publicity, and Alan Freedis creating rock and roll through his radio show. Senior Management From: Mr. Dar Maanavi, Managing Director, Equity Linked Capital Markets Group of Merrill Lynch Re: $5 Billon Convertible Debt Offering Proposal Dear Gentlemen: We are pleased to present to you the salient features of our proposed $5B convertible debt offering for your careful review and approval. We deemed it appropriate to walk you through the analytical process in coming up with the right mix of conversion premium and coupon rate. We initially consider a conversion premium of 25% and determine its corresponding coupon rate. We then explore the appropriateness of such a premium and explore other conversion premium coupon rate combinations and determine which combination would be optimal for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because of the nature of Mogen s business, wherein most of the company s assets are intangibles, which is typical of a risky company. This makes issuance of straight debt more expensive at around 5.75%, as the market will demand higher premium. Given the above market perception of risk and growth opportunity, issuing a convertible bond is appropriate because it would allow the company to raise capital at more advantageous terms than it would when it issues straight debt. Investors would be willing to supply funds at a lower rate if they can have the opportunity to benefit from the upside potential of the stock. Hence, the value of convertible bonds becomes insensitive to the risk of the company. Investors would not be materially affected if the company becomes more volatile as a result of added risk in the future because the call option value of the convertible bond will likewise increase. Upside returns due to increase in risk will also accrue to investors holding a convertible bond, while having a downside protection because of the part debt nature of the convertible. What is the method used to calculate the coupon rate? We first derive the implied volatility of Mogen s stock using the Black Scholes option pricing model The implied volatility of each of the eight outstanding options on MoGen s stock was obtained using the following information on Exhibit 3 type of option, days to maturity in years, exercise price and closing ... Prior to that, we had the Vegas Golden Knights expansion draft, awkwardly held in the middle of an awards gala, and some good old fashioned wheeling and dealing. General managers have now returned home to celebrate their victories, or size up their losses, with five days before unrestricted free agency, which begins this Saturday, July 1. For New York Islanders general manager Garth Snow, it was a whirlwind of three transactions that, by most accounts, saw him come out victorious in two with a decision on the third pending. As valued as Hamonic was to New York on the ice and in the locker room, as well as in the community, Snow did right by the player in granting his request while, at the same time, not crippling the organization by making a bad deal. Prior to completing the move of Hamonic to the Flames, there was plenty of interest in the hardnosed, competitive and passionate defenseman. Toronto Maple Leafs manager Lou Lamoriello engaged Snow in discussions that went far beyond setting initial parameters. There was a deal reportedly in place that was centered around Hamonic and 28 year old winger James Van Reimsdyk that multiple sources told SNY fell apart due to the Islanders being on the players 10 team no trade list in addition to concerns over a contract extension, given that Van Reimsdyk will be an unrestricted free agent next July. What Snow chooses to do with the draft picks obtained in the last trade will be crucial to his final grade on the off season. Following considerable deliberation, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has classified PAH into five major diagnostic categories (Table 1)(1). The vasoconstrictive effects of ET 1 are a result of predominately ETA and, to a lesser extent, ETB receptors which are expressed on vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). Activation of these receptors leads to IP3 mediated increases in intracellular calcium from sarcoplasmic reticulum stores(4). DNA synthesis, in the case, the two strands are disconnected and then turned into single stranded DNA. This is called replication fork. The replication fork acts as a model for DNA synthesis. However, the site of impaired or mutated DNAcan cause a lower rate pf success for DNA synthesis. Impaired DNA can also lead to unprocessed and unligated okazaki fragments. Okazaki frgaments are small DNA fragments that are linked to the lagging strand of DNA. The research article suggest that okazaki fragemts should be tracked for the benefit of cancer patients. An ubiquitin can change the way a cell functions or even where the call is located. The researchers then use a cdc9 with a wild type of DNA ligase 1 to determine whether PCNA ubiquitination happens because of the nicked DNA or because of the lack of PCNA DNA ligase interaction. While reviewing this, they noticed that the cdc9 mutants come to a halt during the later phases of the cell cycle and they collect unligated okazaki fragments. THis proves that PCNA ubiquitination occurs because of the nicked DNA. The nicks are left behind for repairin the last phase of the cell cycle, G2. Although they discovered this, they alos discovered that breaks in the DNA were present in the cdc9 mutants. They caused the replication forks to be held up. These breaks need to be repair via HR. To repair the breaks they suggest RAD52 to be used. Unfortunately, RAD52 was unsuccessful and did not interact with the mutant. They then test if RAD59 can be used to repair the breaks. It happens everywhere, at all times to the most vulnerable of kids, especially those who are obese, gay or have a disability. Video games are the basis to why some students do not do well to school. This is because these students would get the video game addiction in which the games would take over the lives of a kid. Is this a psychological disorder like the others stated within the DSM IV? The answer for this is no (CRCHealthGroup). These students would only feel that a videogame is more interesting because it would have cool graphics and most games are multiplayer games which mean that they can play with their friends (VideoGameAddiction). This cause would lead to the effect of where students do badly in school because they would be too concentrated in the video games they play that they will have less time to do any homework which will lead them to not understanding the concept within what the lesson is about. • 40. Persuasive Essay On Warriors DonT Cry A personal story of discrimination, dedication, and salvation. Warriors Don t Cry is a gritty, impassioned memoir written by Melba Pattillo Beals. The memoir deals with Melba s childhood as she experiences racism and discrimination first hand. Some segments of this book may be considered inappropriate for some readers. There is controversy surrounding whether or not the book is appropriate for school students, specifically tenth graders. I believe that Warriors Don t Cry is appropriate for tenth graders to read. This book is appropriate because it shows today s youth how different society was just few decades ago, and how long and difficult it was to get to where we are today. It is also an important reminder to keep striving for equality in our society today. Finally, this book shows how far dedication, determination, and sacrifice can actually go. The first reason why Warriors Don t Cry is appropriate for tenth graders is because the book shows how different society was not to long ago. Today, students in the United States go to school, sit down, and do work. However, in the 1950s, it may not have been so simple. As seen in Warriors Don t Cry, integration in Central High School in Little Rock, Arizona was not friendly. The group of African American students that was integrated, called the Little Rock Nine, had it very rough. The white students would torment them, discriminate them, and physically harm them every day, just because of their skin color. Central High School ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Analysis Of The Movie Dope I recently watched the Netflix movie, Dope, a coming of age movie that doubles as a parody and a dedication to the 1990s vintage ghetto generation. Malcolm and his friends Jib and Diggy are nerdy high school seniors who bond over anything 90s related, play music together in their punk band, and have grown up together in The Bottoms, in Inglewood, California. Malcolm was trying to escape a gang one day when he had an encounter with a neighborhood drug dealer named Dom. Dom ended up invited him to his birthday party, and with hesitation, Malcolm and his friends decide to go. After an eventful night, Malcolm and his friends later discover that Dom had stashed a handgun and a large amount of drugs in his backpack to hide it from the police who raided the party. The rest of the movie plays out into a war over the drugs that Malcolm accidentally possessed. Malcolm ends up selling the drugs and promises Dom s prominent supplier, who was also coincidentally Malcolm s college interviewer, the profits made from the drugs. Malcolm makes this deal with him only as long as he helps Malcolm achieve his goal of getting into Harvard. Malcolm ends up setting up the supplier with the police while still getting into Harvard and finally being able to get out of the hood. In terms of black masculinity, Malcolm counteracts the hyper aggressive stereotypesthat some have in their head about young African American men. In the movie Dope, numerous aspects of intersectionality are represented in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The war was the culmination of the American Revolution, a colonial struggle against political and economic policies of the British Empire. Many of the rest served as orderlies, mechanics, laborers, servants, scouts and guides, although more than half died in smallpox epidemics that swept the British forces, and a number were driven out of the British lines when food ran low. Despite Dunmore s promises, the majority were not given their freedom. Due to manpower shortages, Washington lifted the ban on black enlistment in the Continental Army in January 1776. All black units were formed in Rhode Island and Massachusetts; many were slaves promised freedom for serving in lieu of their masters. Another all black unit came from Haiti with French forces. At least 5,000 black soldiers fought for the Revolutionary cause. Most American Indians east of the Mississippi River were affected by the war, with many communities dividing over the question of how to respond to the conflict. Most Native Americans who joined the fight fought against the United States, since native lands were threatened by expanding American settlement. An estimated 13,000 warriors fought on the British side; the largest group, the Iroquois Confederacy, fielded about 1,500 men. • 44. Graham Greene s The Destructors Graham Greene s The Destructors, initially, can be interpreted as a telling of senseless violence that is carried out by group of destructive and out of control boys, but, in all actuality, the story explores an idea that directly relates destruction with the idea of creation. The text utilizes the destruction of the house to display how the boys are directly destroying their own naive ideals. Subsequently, creating a better life for themselves, which allow for the old man to move on from his pre warlife. But, underneath this argument, the text ultimately displays the destruction of Old England and the rise of the new post war generation. Demonstrating how the moral interpretation of the story directly symbolizes the overall allegorical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is symbolized by the home being the last remaining piece of the old world that is still intact; it represents the beauty and the naivete of the pre war world. Now the world is forced to think more realistically and the people in it understand the ramifications of their actions, resulting in a negative image being placed on pieces of that world. The boys demonstrate this idea when they decide to destroy the house even though they found it to be remarkably beautiful (314). The boys resent the old world for what they had created for the new post world generation. They even go to the extent to burn the money instead of keeping it for themselves (318). By destroying the money, the boys show how all pieces of the old world must be destroyed in order to rebuild what was destroyed. With each piece of house that is torn down, the boys are metaphorically destroying the last remaining memories of pre war England, resulting in the new post war generation to completely take over. Subsequently creating a new society in order to create a new England that better than before, to ensure that the pain and destruction never happens ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
