The Value Of Dividend Income Essay
Dividends
Basic net income attributable to Trinity Industries, Inc. per common share is computed by dividing
net income attributable to Trinity remaining after allocation to unvested restricted shares by the
weighted average number of basic common shares outstanding for the period. Except when the
effect would be antidilutive, the calculation of diluted net income attributable to Trinity per
common share includes 1) the net impact of unvested restricted shares and shares that could be
issued under outstanding stock options and 2) the incremental shares calculated by dividing the
value of the conversion obligation in excess of the Convertible Subordinated Notes aggregate
principal amount by the average price of the Company s common stock during the period. The
effect of the Convertible Subordinated Notes was antidilutive for the years ended December 31,
2013 and 2012. See Note 11 Debt for further explanation of the Company s Convertible
Subordinated Notes. Total weighted average restricted shares and antidilutive stock options were
7.4 million shares, 7.0 million shares, and 6.1 million shares, for the years ended December 31,
2014, 2013, and 2012, respectively.

of the service provided. Reflective practice is the process that enables individuals to achieve
better understanding of themselves, their understanding, their skills, competencies and their
workplace practices in general. Reflective practice allows us to reflect on our actions and
experiences so that we can learn from them and adapt our behaviour accordingly. Reflective
practice can be uncomfortable as it challenges our own assumptions about ourselves however it is
vital for improving the quality of the service we provide. Reflective practice will make us more self

It is because of this that everyone has their own unique identity. It is unlikely that I ll agree with
the values and belief systems of all of the people I work with. Best practice is about putting my

positively to those of the people I work with. Treating everyone as an individual and respecting
their right to their own identity. 4.1 identify sources of support for planning and reviewing your

Women In Homer s Iliad And The Woman In Genesis
The women in Homer s Iliad and the women in Genesis both exhibit the accepted societal values in
a woman through their duties as wives, which typically consists of obedience and the ability to
sustain their husband s lineage. Rebekah and Andromache both assume their roles as wives, but
sometimes act in ways outside of what was considered normal in their society. Though both
Rebekah and Andromache maintain the classic role of a wife, they occasionally contradict the
expectations of how a womanshould behave by making decisions traditionally made by men.
Through revolutionary behaviors demonstrated by both women, they grant themselves more
authority and power in decision making, which in turn affects the fate of each woman s family. Both

6.455 456). Andromache pleads with Hector to stay with her and her son while the war
progresses, using her suggestions of military action to prevent Hector from facing his foreseen
destiny of being killed by Achilles. This type of request followed by her ability to share her
insight and advice with her husband demonstrates not only the type of relationship the two have
between one another, but how Andromache steps out of the classic idea of being one with very
limited power in her ability to influence her husband s views. She states her views to take
initiative for her own self interest, not just her husband s. Hector takes this advice, but
ultimately his own self interest controls his actions, just like Andromache s does to her, and
decides to leave for the war so that he maintains his honor (timД“), but before leaving he asks her
to go back to the house now and take care of [her] work (Il. 6.515). Hector now orders
Andromache to do her wifely duties and Andromache obeys as she went back home (Il. 6.520).
Here she exhibits a sort of contradiction to her previous actions, from being outspoken and
making decisions to reversing back to her boundaries as a wife by obeying her husband s
demands. Paradoxically, Andromache s previous behaviors would show that she is defying social
norms, however she recognizes her limitations once Hector rejects her ideas

John Muir Preservationism
Conserving means to protect (something, especially an environmentally or culturally important
place or thing) from harm or destruction. John Muir, a famous preservationist is someone I agree
with completely, his idea of preservationism is the best way to help our earth. Not damming
Hetch Hetchy Valley was what really drew me into him. He believed that politicians were using
nature as a way to get material gains. Muir believed that nature should be protected and should
be kept beautiful. He states at one point that everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to
play in and pray in where nature may heal and cheer and give strength to body and soul alike.
(Who was John Muir? The Sierra Club) He s saying that beauty is just as crucial... Show more

John believed that turning places into national parks would be a great way to conserve them, this
allows for wild life and plants to be monitored and kept under control. With his great love for the
idea of national parks, came a lot of pro s for the environment. Biodiversity plays an important role
in national parks, biodiversity helps to keep environments clean and healthy for wild life. It allows
for climate regulation, pollination and water purification. Yosemite National Parkwas one of Muir s
creates accomplishments. He first traveled there in 1868 an loved the beauty and scenery so
much that he decided to come back the next year and get a job as a rancher. Soon he became
very concerned about natural landscape preservation. John Muir, being a preservationist, makes
him the most admirable choice because he believed in protecting wild places for the sake of
people and the sake of the well being of the earth. Pinchot, Muir s opposite, believed that
conservation went hand in hand with development and that damming Hetch Hetchy would
improve supplies in San Fransisco. The difference between conservationism and preservationism
is that most times conservation focuses more on the needs of human beings. Preservationism is
more focused on maintaining where the earth is at the time and the areas that are touched by
humans. This idea helps to stop the invasion of human beings taking over open land and making
them into farms and industries for developmental gain. This means that whatever we can
preserve now, we can have in the future. A balance between the two would be difficult because
of how strongly these opposing sides feel about the environment and what should be done in its
best interest. I don t feel that a balance is possible because a lot of times human needs are the
reason for natures destruction such as knocking down forests for paper, and building dams to help
increase a water supply. Not only do these human needs take away

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Common Core
Common Core State Standards have been a hot topic for a few years. While both sides of the
argument make valid points, often people lose sight of the greatest importance in the debate. The
students. The children s best interests need to be on the forefront of either side. Nearly all can
agree that in educationa national set of standards is necessary for this country. This is not the first
time in history that America s educational principles have been up for debate. The basic idea of
common core is to prepare students for responsibility as a citizen in this society. Students must be
able to read and distill complex sentences and must be equipped with basic mathematical skills. The
actual impact the standards will have on education will not be revealed for several years, however it
is thought that implementing a national set of standards will nothing... Show more content on

Digging deeper into concepts and increasing rigor will enable our children to be competitive in
today s world and the playing field comparing our educational system to other countries will be
leveled. Higher education has a history of complaining that students are not ready for college level
courses and remediation classes have been necessary. Implementing common core could eliminate
those classes while teaching students how to think and problem solve before leaving high school.
An additional issue against common core is the financial burdens that could be put on schools and
districts as a result of implementation. From purchasing newly aligned textbooks and materials, to
updating technology in order to complete the standard assessment all online. With this assessment
comes an increased value in the results. If the scores are compared nationally it is assumed that
already high stakes testing will only get higher by opening up Pandora s Box of national assessment

Six Sigma Methodology
In last 25 years many companies are adopting Six Sigma methodology as a process excellence
tool. Few of them are GE, Motorola, Siemens, ABB, Citi Bank, Ford etc. Many Japanese and
Korean companies like LG, Toshiba, Honda, Sony and Samsung have also implemented Six Sigma.
Many organizations are implementing Six Sigmain India. ICICI, Larsen Toubro, Mahindra
Mahindra, Tata motors, HDFC are some major organizations implementing Six Sigma. Due to
globalization world market is opened to Indian organizations and to compete with other countries
they want to bring their products services to world class level. To achieve this along with various
methodologies Six Sigma is becoming popular in India.
The cultural differences between India western countries, creates the need for different

He wants perfection and his expectations are ever increasing. Organizations are making all efforts
to satisfy customer by improving processes and making near perfect, zero defect products.
A process is any repetitive action, may be a transactional, manufacturing or services. The defects
and variation in processes affects productivity, quality and overall customer satisfaction by
adversely hitting the bottom line. A new metric was required to measure the defects in processes
and a methodology to control the variation in processes. Six Sigma fulfills this requirement of
organizations.
Definitions of Six Sigma:
Sigma is a term used in statistics to represent standard deviation and Six Sigma is a statistical
concept which measures process in terms of defects at the Six Sigma level. The sigma level of a

Surrogate Motherhood
In the past adoption was the only alternative for infertile women who wished to have children.
Advances in technology however have created new options for women who have a defective uterus
or defective ovaries. Two alternatives that are gaining popularity are straight surrogacy and host
surrogacy. In straight surrogacy, or traditional surrogacy, the surrogate mother is impregnated with
the sperm of the intended father by way of artificial insemination. In these cases, the surrogate
mother not only carries the child but is genetically linked to the child as well. She however
relinquishes her role of social mother to the intended mother. In host surrogacy the intended parents
produce an embryo through in vitro fertilization, which is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Such extreme cases however are rare and for the most part surrogacy is successful, with
problems being minimal. In fact research shows most cases are successful. In the largest and
most representative study of surrogate mothers so far, 34 women were interviewed
approximately one year after they had given birth. After handing over the child, eleven of the
woman experienced only mild difficulties, one reported moderate difficulty, and the rest reported
not having any difficulties. After a year only two reported experiencing occasional mild
difficulties, while the rest reported none. In none of the cases did any of the woman report
feeling that the child was like their own. As it was put by one of the woman, she never viewed it
as handing over the child, instead she considered she was handing back the child. Surrogate
mothers often report feeling a positive sense of self worth, that seeing their commissioning couple
s faces once the child is born makes the whole process worthwhile. Surrogacy has not only
benefited many couples hoping to have children, but surrogate mothers wishing to give the gift of
life to a child as well. Surrogacy however has also raised ethical questions in determining who
claims the right as the legal parent of a child, sometimes creating problems that can be difficult to
resolve. Surrogacy should therefore be

A Clean, Well-lighted Place Essay
The main character in A Clean, Well Lighted Place, written by Ernest Hemingway, is the old man.
The old man, who remains nameless throughout the short story, comes to the cafГ© for the light it
provides him against the dark night. He stays late into the night, and sits In the shadow the leaves
of the tree made against the electric light. The old man is deaf and finds comfort in the difference
he feels inside the quiet cafГ©. The old man struggles with old age and the feeling of nothingness
which is representative of the darkness outside of the cafГ©. The well lit cafГ© represents order
and cleanliness. Outside in the dark, a young soldier and a girl hurry along the streets. Apparently,
the couple intend to go off alone. They symbolize... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

He is not as old as the old man, but can comprehend with the aging process. He is not youthful

looks after him. The older waiter understands that even though the old man has plenty of money he
is alone in the world. He realizes that it is important to keep a clean, well lit cafГ© open for people
like the old man who can not sleep. The older waiter recognizes the difference in his cafГ© and
that of a dark bar or bodega. He knows that Light was all it needed and a certain cleanness and
order. He is reluctant to close up because there may be someone who needs the cafГ©. The
reader finds out at the end of the story that the waiter is like the old man in need of light and
cleanness, when he goes to a bar after closing and comments that although The light is very
bright and pleasant but the bar is unpolished. The waiter blames it on insomnia, but he like the
old man is alone. In a way, the company of the old man is good for him just as it is to the old
man. He admits to the younger waiter I am of those who like to stay late at the cafГ©,...With all
those who need a light for the night. He also, tells the younger waiter that he lacks everything but
work. Similar to the old man, he lacks youth and confidence.

The Protestant Ethic And Spirit Of Capitalism

Sociology 101
The Protestant Ethic and Spirit of Capitalism Max Weber (1864 1920) considered seriously about
the emerging dilemmas from the socio cultural and political state of affairs in Germany and
criticised purely the historical materialistic concept of explanations. Within his book The Protestant
Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism , Weber instead depicts a more conceivable and pragmatic
explanation that the materialization of capitalism owed much to the specific patterns of religious
motivational explanations in Calvinism between various industrialists at that period. As these
people (Calvinists) believed that god s knowledge and astuteness was immeasurable to ... Show

Additionally, Weber explains that the progress in administrative sphere can be directed only
through a guided reckoning, impartiality and competence. In the intellectual sphere, progress was
thought to be achieved by the aid of scientific methods, testing skills, experiential data collection
because theories that are imitative through scientific reasoning supersede to those that are
previously attributed to magical causes. However, this particular enlightenment ideology of motive
and self realisation is distinguishable with that of Marx s view of progress and is still qualified by
Weber by the rationalisation itself.
Compared to Marx perspective, the rationalisation and progress according to Weber involve the
positive features of effectiveness, manageability, uniformity, unavoidability and impartiality. These
positive aspects of rationalisation can result in enhanced capacity, the development of capacity and
power relations and thereby assists in attaining progress in each sphere depicted above. Unlike
Marx, rationalisation in economic perspective as witnessed in Western Capitalism was been
considered by Weber as the process of reasoning out unreasonable sentiments that hamper accrual
and estimation of profit, progress and sentiments like faith, thoughtfulness solidarity

In every business there are several different ways they can become successful for example: they
can produce aims and objectives which helps them to plan for what they want to accomplish in the
future. This will mean that they ll know in which areas they need to grow and in which direction
they want to move, and furthermore it will help them achieve their target goal. Toyota is doing just

Toyota then try and find an email address or something similar and message the person privately,
this gives the customers a decision to make to choose between either Toyota or one of their rivals,
and since Toyota has messaged them privately, their rival companies will lose out because of the
amazing reductions that they propose. This has helped Toyota achieve their objective of growth,
since they are extending out to people and enticing them to pick Toyota and also has helped to show
how successful their marketing technique is.
However Toyota also has cons, for example a con with their marketing techniques: not all of the
information they provide customers with is 100% true. Toyota have a certain amount of
merchandise which they need to sell to consumers, and if they do not manage to, then they lower
the price and discount it in order to entice customers. However, when it is put into perspective that
they have even cheaper cars, there are still others that are much cheaper, with similar specification.
E.g. Ford have brought out a new innovative car with clever modern technology, and is more
economical than a Toyota discounted car. In addition Toyota also had to reduce the price of their
cars recently as customers were refusing to but their products for the full price. For example, they
had to discount ВЈ500 off of a car, if bought within a certain amount of time. This shows that some

Susan B. Anthony And The Abolitionist Movement
Susan B. Anthony devoted her life to the rights of women s labor, receiving equal pay, and
leading the women s suffrage movement. She grew up in a home where politics was frequently
discussed. Her family supported an end to slavery as part of the abolitionist movement. In her
early years, she was a teacher and became involved in the temperance movement as well as the
anti slavery movement. Because she was a woman, she was not allowed to voice her opinion.
This became a motivator for her to become a woman s suffrage leader. A skilled, talented woman
made a difference when she joined forces with Stanton. As mentioned earlier, Stanton and
Anthony opposed the fourteenth and fifteen amendments for not liberating women. As Mayo
states, she published The Revolution, a radical paper, edited by Stanton (1868 1870), and
lectured for over six years to pay off its debt. (Rights for Women, para.3) She was arrested for
voting in 1872. She led a woman s protest at the 1876 Centennial delivering a Declaration of
Rights written by Stanton and Matilda Gage. She wrote and published, with Stanton and Gage the
History of Woman Suffrage (1881 1885) (Mayo para. 5). Although she was arrested and it seemed
like nothing came easy, she never gave up. Anthony was a hard working woman that rallied many in
hopes of advancing women s rights. She gathered signatures on suffrage petitions at the state and
national levels, undertook arduous state tours to organize suffrage campaigns in the states

Gregor Johann Mendel was a scientist and botanist born on July 22, 1822. At birth he was given
the name Johann Mendel. He grew up on a family owned farm in Heinzendorf, Austria. In early
years, young Mendel showed signs of being very intelligent. One of his teachers recommended he
be sent to another school to further his learning. His parents, not having much money, decided to

No one really understood the genetic principles of these plants and animals so the experiments
were sometimes dangerous and costly. In the 1890 s better microscopes were introduced into the
scientific world and allowed scientist to further their study and knowledge in cell division. This
was a key component in the study of genetics. Mendel is commonly known at the father of modern
genetics . While being a teacher Mendel had time to have experiments of his own. Most of his time
was spent on the testing of pea plants. He tried to use regular garden pea plants because they were
easily accessible, grown in large numbers in the monastery gardens, and they were extremely easy
to reproduce while not having to wait a long period of time before receiving results. Common pea
plants have both male and female reproductive organs which gives them the ability to either self
pollinate or cross pollinate.
The experiments were to study their genetic makeup and test them over generations and
generations of other pea plants. He would study a parent plants and when their offspring
appeared he noticed that only certain characteristics would show up in their offspring. For
instance, the pea flowers are either purple or white intermediate colors do not appear in the

apparently only occur in one of two forms. 1. Flower color is purple or white. 2. Flower position is

Mate Selection Sociology
Family as a word is not easy to define, because it is so significant and universal to humanity. The
worlds cultures display so much variety of family that it is difficult to base it off of common
elements. The western world regards family as a wife, husband, and children. Other countries or
groups, though, have familyforms consisting of more than one wife or vice versa. A broad
definition of family is when certain people consider themselves related by blood, marriage, or
adoption.
Human groups have many forms of mate selection, ways to trace descent, and methods to assign
authority and pass on property. Each group perceives its own forms of family as natural.
In the functionalist perspective, they stress that to survive a society, one must meet its basic needs.

When ideas are right or wrong change, it leads to new norms that guide behavior in new
directions. Like said above, it was once an aforethought right for a wife who worked full time to
also do all the housework but it is no longer the case. Though there are apparent differences in
how husbands and wives spend their time, in what sociologists refer to it as gendered division
of labor, where husbands still talk the primary responsibility for earning the income and the
wives take primary responsibility for taking care of the house and children; still there is still a
shift taking place in the traditional gender division of labor: wives spend more time than they used
to earn family income while husbands spend more time than they used to on housework and child
care so these trends are part of changing thoughts of gender of what is deliberately the right for
husbands and wives. In ushering these new norms and behavior or what is deliberately appropriate
maybe in the future greater marital equality can be

Themes Of Home Alone And Ransom Of Red Chief
The theme of a story is the moral message or lesson of a story. There are many themes in Home
Alone and Ransom of Red Chief but the one that stood out to me the most was that the looks of
people can be extremely different from their actions. In the story Ransom of Red Chief the story
states The kid was a freckle faced boy of ten with freckles that stood out. His hair was the color of
the cover of the magazine you buy at the newsstand when you want to catch a train. Hey little boy!
Says Bill Would you like to have a bag of candy and a nice ride? The boy hits Bill square in the eye
with a piece of brick . This illustrates that most people who read this story think he is a good kid by
his looks until you read where he hits Bill in the head with a brick. Bill thought he was a good kid
but Bill learned the hard way. In a scene from Home Alonethe bad guys are looking through the
house window and think he s a helpless little boy, but when they try to get into the house they
see he s not at all what he looks like. Kevin made the steps icey so they would slip, put a blow

The characters in Ransom of Red Chief and Home Alone are very similar. Kevin and Johnny are

Kevin was using cardboard people or dummy s and hooked them up with string so the fake

Lease Of Capital Lease Vs. Operating Leases
Leases
Capital Leases vs. Operating Leases The most significant difference between a capital lease and
an operating lease is how each is recognized in the financial statements. According to U.S. GAAP,
a lease is capitalized if it fulfills one of the following requirements: transfer of ownership, bargain
purchase option, lease term is 75% or more of economic life, or present value of minimum lease
payments is 90% or more of fair value. All other lease agreements are classified as operating
leases (Wahlen et al., 2013, p.20 15). Operating leases present advantages to the leasee, as they are
not required to be recognized on the balance sheet, yet operating lease agreements must be disclosed
in the notes to the financial statements.

Leases vs. Purchase: Advantages and Disadvantages There are numerous advantages to leasing
over purchasing, the majority of which relate to cash flows, financing issues and financial
reporting. Specifically, leases have the potential to offer a lower interest over the long term and
only lay claim on the leased asset, not on all assets (Wahlen et al., 2013). Additionally, leases do
not constrict cash flows to the same extent as purchasing. For example the statement of cash flows
demonstrates Amazon used $2.4 billion and $121 million to repay capital lease and finance lease
obligations respectively, foregoing the drastically greater cash outflow if Amazon were to purchase
these assets. Furthermore, leasing provides an exit strategy if the location is not conducive to
operations.

Upon reviewing Amazon s statement of cash flows, it appears net cash provided by operating
activities, $11.9 billion, only slightly outweighs net cash used in investing activities, $6.4 billion
and financing activities $3.7 billion by, $1.7 billion. When measured against the previous year,
2014 cash inflows exceeded 2015 by $4.5 billion. The primary causes of the reduced inflows in
2015 can be largely attributed to two causes.

Disadvantages Of Securitization
As securitization seems to be a lucrative way for banks to not only enhance liquidity and diversify
risk but also improves their performance considerable incentive problems occurred during the
turmoil and among the different parties. Those incentive problems led to information asymmetries
and moral hazard among the involved stakeholders .As the Bank/Originator creates reference pool
sells them to the bankruptcy remote trust (such as Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac) Bankruptcy remote
trust buys reference pool and securitizes it sells them to the capital market where potential investors
exists to purchase securities purchase of securities by investors 6 gap between mortgageoriginators
and investors increases, it reduces the incentives for lenders to screen mortgage applicants
thoroughly. During the turmoil banks had more and better information about the Mortgage Backed
Securities and their performance value in contrast to third parties as they knew more about the
mortgage applicant and the underlying mortgage loan.As bank incentives are to issue more
mortgage loans and then sell them to bankruptcy remote trusts to securitize them, they did not bear

Therefore, the process of transfer of the receivables from the originator to the SPV involves an
outlay on account of stamp duty, which can make securitization commercially unviable in several
states. If the securitized instrument were issued as evidencing indebtedness, it would be in the form
of a debenture or bond subject to stamp duty. On the other hand, if the instrument is structured as a

Character Analysis Of Afrika Road
Afrika Road, a story that symbolizes oppression of the whites who are capturing the blacks. The
blacks are being oppressed, controlled by the white people and Afrika road symbolizes their
struggle of dealing with this problem. In Don Mattera s short story Afrika Road , there are many
examples that show the different character traits Afrika Road portrays. The different character traits
of the protagonist, the story Afrika Road shows is meritoriousness, tolerance, and victimization.
In Afrika Road, there are many examples that show the character trait of meritoriousness. An
example is when the author states, [M]en, women, children... soldiers without uniforms or
conventional armory... aware that death waited for them on Masphala Hill (Mattera 91). This
reference suggests that the black people are being oppressed by the white people but will continue
their march of freedom even knowing what consequences can arise and trouble them. One can
conclude that the black people are trying to take back their rights and freedom, everyone
participated including men, women, children even the soldiers with and without uniforms. In
essence, they are being forced into being soldiers. In addition, it can be noted that the black
people are merited to stand up in front of the whites to earn back what was rightfully theirs. Blacks
are being praised for what they did, for having the courage to go through their plan and be brave
enough to execute their plan even though they knew what they were going

Analysis Of The Falling Man By Tom Junod
The Falling Man
On the date of September 11th 2001, a horrific terrorist attack took place on the World Trade
center. From this one act of evil caused thousands of individuals to perish in the matter of minutes.
As time progresses on, the things that still remain are the memories and the footage of what
occurred on that day. As the two buildings were in engulfed in flames and people stood helpless on
the ground, some witnesses turned to photography and video footage to hopefully help this day to
never be forgotten.
One individual named Richard Drew, a professional journalist and photographer was in New York
on 9/11. While the terrorist attack occurred he sat helpless and watched from the streets but decided
to begin snapping pictures. However, the article entitled, The Falling Man by Tom Junod showed
the controversy of what he was taking pictures of. Richard was taking pictures of the Jumpers
(Junod, 2016, para. 6). The Jumpers were the citizens trapped within the twin towers with no other
exit but to jump for possible freedom, but as they fell hundreds of stories from the buildings the
people on the streets knew their was no help for them and the only thing that awaited them was a
quick death. Within the article it states, He was standing between a cop and an emergency
technician, and each time one of them cried, There goes another, his camera found a falling body
and followed it down for a nine or twelve shot sequence (Junod, 2016, para. 3). In this statement

obligations and interpersonal responsibilities have been increasingly differentiated both in the

duties or obligatory actions that we owe to everybody under all circumstances. They include, for
example, the obligation to keep a promise or to be veridical. These obligations have been subsumed
under the principle of justice and fairness. On the other hand, expectations and responsibilities in

Integrity And Integrity
What keeps the society we live in secure? Why are we, as a people, able to coexist in nations,
unified under one banner? By what invisible barrier do humans band together and live as one? The
answer is integrity. Morals alone cannot encompass what bonds us, nor honesty or fidelity. It is the
combination of the three that can summarize that barrier that holds all together. Integrityis not only a
venerative virtue, but a necessity for all sentient beings. It is, in its basest form, a strong loyalty to
and the virtuous enforcement of ones mortality. When expanded, it encompasses the bonds of
loyalty between humans, the connection between man and country, follower and leader, husband
and wife. Between father and son, and all other mutual bonds... Show more content on

Friendship, love, compassion, empathy, and many others that any person is constructed of. These
bonds between all people beget loyalty. As unclear as the bonds between morality and loyalty can
be without integrity, the connection between people only widens the gap of common
understanding. Where loyalty to morality meets, so does loyalty to bonds. They are very similar, in
that without loyalty, for either one, one cannot have integrity. It may be that one has a friend, but
are they willing to defend them? Are they willing to fight for them, to sacrifice something for them?
These are the questions that must be asked to temper these connections, to either emerge brittle or
strengthened. Without loyalty there can be no true integrity, and without integrity, morals and
bonds become weakened, sapped of all conviction and truth. Integrity is the lifeblood of
democracy. Deceit is a poison in its veins. Edward Kennedy. The system of democracy works only

Persuasive Essay On Domestic Violence
There are many topics that people do not like to talk about, topics that cause discomfort or are
seen as taboo. However, as much as people wish to not talk about it, it doesn t mean the topic
doesn t exist. Domestic violence is one of the worst things committed on a daily basis, yet is only
seen behind closed doors. In the public service announcement against domestic violence, It Rarely
Stops presented by the National Domestic Violence Hotline, the organization s use of pathos is
more clearly established than ethos or logos. The ad is much less than informative than others, but
it sends a clear message and provides a solution to the problem that is abusive relationships.
Although there isn t much, the public service announcement does present some sort of appeal to
ethos. By the National Domestic Violence Hotline presenting an announcement over the topic of
domestic violence, it deems them a legitimate source. Not only has the hotline received calls from
over 2 million victims or observers of abusive relationships, but they have gathered information on
what the first signs of domestic violence looks like, which is the focus of the announcement. If
another organization such as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline created an ad on domestic
violence, it might send a good message, but their evidence could be incorrect, and viewers might
not take them seriously since the ad is not in the focus of their organization. The National Domestic
Violence Hotline presents an ad that

Renewable Energy Is An Energy
INTRODUCTION:
Renewable energy is an energy that is generated from natural resources such as sunlight, rain,
wind, tides and geothermal heat that are renewable (not be depleted when used). In the year 2008,
at about 19% of the total global energy consumed came from the renewable energy sources and
with 13% coming from traditional biomass and 3.2% from the hydroelectricity. New renewable
energy sources such as small hydro, modern biomass, solar, geothermal, wind and some bio fuels
have accounted for another 3% and these are growing rapidly. The renewable share in electricity
generation is 18% and the 18% comprises of 15% of hydroelectricity and the rest 3% from new
renewable energy sources.
In the renewable energy sources, Wind power is growing at a rate of 30% annually, the capacity
of wind power installed worldwide is 158 GW in 2009 which is widely used in Europe, Asia and
the United States. By the end of 2009, PV (Photovoltaic) installations surpassed 21 GW and
photovoltaic power stations are most popular in Germany and Spain and solar thermal power
stations are operated in US and Spain, the largest of these have the capacity of 354 MW. Largest
geothermal power station installed in the world is The Geysers in California with a rated
capacity of 750 MW. Brazil has one of the largest renewable energy programs in the world that
involves production of ethanol fuel from sugar cane. Now 18% of the country s automotive fuel is

Essay The Ban-Yatra Pilgrimage
If you are ready to leave father and mother, and brother and sister, and wife and child and friend,
and never see them again... then you are ready for a walk. Henry David Thoreau (Haberman 12)
Introduction:
The pains of pilgrimage are deep and various. They are found not simply in the physical walking,
but also in the walking away from physical and mental comfort. In his book, Journey Through the
Twelve Forests, David L. Haberman describes in graphic detail the parting and participatory pains
as he journeys on the Ban Yatra pilgrimage. The Ban Yatra (literally forest journey ) is a 200 mile
circuit through the forests associated with Lord Krishna s activities around Braj, a town in central
India. Krishna is a deity favored ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This paper will explore the necessary co presence of intense pain and sheer bliss in the Ban Yatra,
evaluating precisely how this tension is necessary in building the pilgrim s relationship with
Krishna. The pilgrim s relationship with and reverence for Shiva and Radha will serve as markers
in this outsider s account, guiding in the understanding of the nature of the pilgrim s pain and
consequent joy.
I. Entering a relationship with Krishna by following Shiva
Ironically, the Ban Yatra a celebration of Krishna begins at a Shiva temple. In many respects, the
ways of Shiva, the brooding mountain ascetic, are contradictory to the ways of Ban Yatra pilgrims.
The human condition is one of restlessness, there is a haunting lack which engenders the incessant
flight from on thing to another, Haberman observes (Hab 7). Ascestism, commonly associated
with the Hindu term tapas , seeks to alleviate the discontentment of this condition by self mastery
the controlling of one s kama, or desire. The ascetic devotes his or her energy to performing
austerities and fixating on one stable point of zero desire. By transcending the tumultuous play of
the world, the ascetic attempts to seek perfection. In contrast, Haberman explains, the religion of
Braj involves the cultivation of desire, not the elimination (Hab 28). The Ban Yatra pilgrim
believes that all of life is Krishna s play lila and that life s

David Boonin Argument Analysis
As it was presented earlier, David Boonin s interest based argument has three major elements: 1)
A modified future like ours account of Don Marquis, 2) Relationship between desires and right to
life, and 3) Organized cortical brain activity as a necessary condition for the onset of
consciousness. It is the first two elements which are of major concern here.
David Boonin modifies Marquis future like ours argument and converts it to a desire based
account, before developing his analytical distinction of desires that has been shown earlier. Once
values and desires are used interchangeably (which itself raises concerns), the idea that the foetus
values its future or comes to value its future can be restated as that which a foetus desires, ... Show

First, it is not the property of the valuable future that is morally significant. It is the desire for a
valuable future which is morally important. Second, there is an implicit emphasis on the present.
The foetus in this new version desires in the present that its future be preserved. In the original
version the foetus will come to value its future. In fact, the focus on the present is perhaps one
of the reasons Boonin has to focus on desires. What drives Boonin to focus on the present is that
the morally significant property that would confer the status of personhood on the foetus must
be actually present in the foetus for it to qualify as a person. If it is a potential property, an
essential property or even a capacity for a potential property, then Boonin will not be able to
argue against those who support the foetus inviolability from the moment of conception. Boonin
must show that the foetus is not inviolable before they start to have present conscious desires.
Since he is basing his argument on Marquis future like ours argument, any modification of the
original argument to the present conscious desires version must be done in such a way that the
same criteria applies to infants, suicidal teenagers, temporary comatose adults as well as the
foetus. In order for the argument to work on all these cases, Boonin creates the analytical
distinctions between the occurrent vs dispositional desires and actual vs ideal desires, as
presented earlier, to say that it is the property of only present ideal dispositional conscious desires
that is a morally significant property for personhood. Once the foetus meets the conditions
necessary of conscious desires, that is from the onset of advanced organised cortical brain activity,
a foetus can have present ideal dispositional conscious

The firms following the horizontal boundary are more efficient as the firm produce multiple
products through in house or narrowing it to the few products and increasing the rationales by
economies of scope and transaction costs. The economies scope rises in distribution of goods

economies of scope in advertising themselves. The horizontal integrations actually works by
acquiring or by creating the production units for the product output in the market to increase their
market share by increasing the economic share and economies scale in the market. By having the
horizontal integration the firm can show their presence and strength in the market even by
distributing and routing their goods and services. For example, GE firm has variety of products
and services like Universal pictures, universal parks, medical systems (William Boyes, 2012). etc.,
where it has more market economic share and economies of scope. Horizontal integration also
helps in promoting the business and also reduces completion as firm focuses on different

Why Canadians Are Frustrated With Their Legislatures
Good morning everyone. Today I will be covering David Docherty s book Legislatures. The work
covers various aspects of the functions, procedures and evolution of Canadian legislatures, both
provincial and federal. The analysis undertaken by Docherty, as expressed in his own words,
constitutes an audit of the existing legislatures and their procedures as they have historically
operated as well as in their modern iterations.
Docherty s analysis, broadly speaking, is an investigation into how internal processes and systems

Representation inclusivity has therefore made large strides in provincial and federal parliaments,
but elections remain the strongest way to increase inclusivity through the election of brand new
members.
Docherty addresses criticism both internally and externally of the governing party. Internally
Docherty suggests that while advances for nonpartisan selection of specific roles, such as the
Speaker, have been successful in achieving some neutrality, party discipline and loyalty to the
executive remain incredibly strong in Canada making internal dissention both politically and
strategically unwise for members of a governing party. Externally of the government, parties and
individual MP s do not receive the same type of research support as well as funding as those
which hold particular positions such as Ministers or meet standards set by the Board of Internal
Economy. While oppositions can scrutinize in the form of Question Period (QP) or Private
Members Bills (PMB) these measures have become more symbolic and theatrically politicized than
they have been historically leading to more talk and much less action.
Finally turning to legislation, Docherty highlights particular trends in Canadian legislatures that are
impacting the quality and timely nature of legislation. Firstly, the downsizing of legislatures

Preventing The Health Care System
In fear of financial devastation, my aunt struggled with accruing medical debt because she could not
afford health insurance for her two young boys. Although a working single mother, she fell above
the federal poverty line for the state of Florida inhibiting health care access for her two sons. My
aunt was faced with the choice of paying her household bills and ensuring there was food on the
table or spending her money on health insurance. Unfortunately, hospital visits are inevitable with
two active boys. One cousin actually fractured his skull requiring an emergency room visit and CT
scans, which took two years for my aunt to fully pay for. These experiences, which many Americans
will encounter, cause the majority of the population to avoid the health care system unless
confronted with dire circumstances. Our health care system deters undeserved populations and
uninsured individuals from participating in routine check ups or visiting primary care physicians,
contributing decreasing practice of preventative care. As human beings, it is our civil duty to ensure
the well being of the community and not just that of the individual. By implementing health care as
a basic right, we will expand preventative care practice in the United States ultimately leading to
improved health outcomes and cost containment of health expenditures. Currently, our nation is
experiencing a vast socioeconomic disparity in access to primary and preventative care. Studies

Creoles of Trinidad and Tobago: Phonology , and UWI lecturer, she believes that our negative

corruption of English vocabulary and grammar, and that it lacks the international prestige of

The perception of wine being upmarket and sophisticated is helping in bringing about this change.
One sign of this happening is the emergence of wine clubs in a number of cities. The biggest
consumption of wine (up to 80%) is confined to the major cities, of which the largest are Mumbai
(39%), Delhi (23%), Bangalore (9%) and the foreign tourist
3
dominated market of Goa (9%). With the easing of quantitative restrictions on wines after April 1,
2001, there has been an increasing interest in the Indian market by international players. However
the import duties and state taxes (which will be discussed later in more detail) remain high. They
continue to be a major impediment to the foreign entrants into the Indian market. Local Industry:
Maharashtra, Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh (a recent entrant) are the three major wine
producing regions in India. Maharashtra, on the western coast of India, is the major wine
producing region, accounting for 94% of the total wine produced in the country. According to the
Department of Wine Production of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC),
the wine producing region is spread over 30,000 hectares, covering 64 wineries. During the year
2007/08 Maharashtra registered a massive growth in wine production to 21.1 million litres against
13.2 million litres in 2006/07. This was a growth of 60% over the previous year

“Our Health Care System Has Significant Safety And Quality
Our health care system has significant safety and quality problems, Linda Cronenwett said. To fix
that, we need to redesign what and how we teach the next generation of nurses and other healthcare
professionals so that they understand what goes into ensuring good and safe care, and can identify
and bridge the gaps between what is and what should be (Hirst, O Segedy, 2011). Robert Wood
Johnson Foundation funds national study to educate nursing students on patient safety and
healthcare quality. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation awarded the University of North Carolina
at Chapel Hill School of Nursing a $590,000 grant to evaluate and enhance nursing school
curriculum on the topics of quality and safety. The project ambition was to... Show more content on

Phase III, worked to develop faculty expertise necessary for nursing schools to teach the
competencies. The focus was on instilling the competencies in textbooks, licensing, accreditation
and certification standards; and promotion which continued innovation in teaching the
competencies. The six competencies are patient centered care, teamwork and collaboration,
evidence based practice, quality improvement, safety, and informatics. In the first two phases of
QSEN, the goal was to identify what s out there now, what s missing, and what s wrong. The
conclusion reached was that our nursing schools need to equip the next generation of nurses to help
drive change in health care. Therefore in the final phase of the project, there was innovation in the
way students were taught, tested, and certified (Hirst, O Segedy, 2011). Many patients lack access
to care due to the severe nursing shortage, and the lack of safety and quality care. The next
generation of nurses, can make important contributions on all fronts, if they take on the challenge.
The QSEN project promotes continued innovation in the development and evaluation of methods to
promote and assess student learning of the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of the six competencies

Classical Art Vs Renaissance Art
issance art has reflected the work of classical art in many ways but there are also things that the
artists of the renaissance period have decided to defer from including in their work. Some examples
of things that the renaissance artist have carried over from classical Greece and Rome include the
use of contrapposto in their work, the mathematical fundamentals in their designs, and the focus on
the anatomical structure of the human figure. Despite all these similarities there are also a few
differences these include the lack of pagan representation in their art, the ideal beauty created in the
high renaissanceand the discovery of linear perspective. When looking at a renaissance piece it can
be fairly easy to see the connection... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most recognizable difference is the lack of pagan representation in the art. Similar to
renaissance art Greek and Roman art is still very religiously based, but the only difference is that
one religion is Christian and the other is pagan. This creates a very different subject matter for
the two types of art which despite looking very similar make them very different. The next
different between the classical and renaissance art periods are the the creation of ideal beauty.
Throughout the time of classical art and the first three renaissance periods everything looked
perfect, but when you achieved perfection how were you supposed to go up from there? Di Vinci
answered that question and in turn developed the high renaissance movement. He makes figures
look beyond beautiful and furthers them to look perfect. This is a style that makes the high
renaissance period stand out and in turn makes it so much more different with the classical art
period. The last major difference between the renaissance and the classical period is the use of
linear perspective in renaissance art. Classical rendering was near perfect due to the level of skill
of the artists but not quite there yet, they were missing one this and that way a formula known as
linear perspective. Once that equation was figured out in the renaissance period artists were able to
create perfect architectural renderings defining this new age of

Faith Is A Way Of Knowing
Faith plays a strong role in humanity, however, it is a very controversial subject when it is
applied to as a way of knowing. Faith, or undying trust, can be applied to many areas of life in
our pursuit of knowledge; whether it may be for religious purposes or having confidence in world
leaders or family members. Although it does not require physical evidence, faithis based on such
strong beliefs that so many trust it to be the truth. Unfortunately, as human beings, we may not
always be correct in our way of thinking. Questions concerning faith as a way of knowing arise
when regarding morals or ethics, as well as some have a different faith than others. Faith is a more
modern approach to a way of knowing, however, has played such a large part since the beginning of
human existence.
While thinking of faith, religion is usually first to come to mind. And it is true, faith plays a large
part in religion. You must have faith that your way of life is the way you are meant to live. As
previously stated, faith does not require empirical evidence, however not having any evidence is
justified in the individual s life. In many religions, faith offers structure to its follower s lives,
which helps guide them into the right direction. In addition to this, who are we to tell an individual
that their faith is not properly justified, therefore, cannot be absolute truth? Religion and its
practices have been carried out for centuries; it helps individuals understand how and why we are

Youth Center Experience
I have loved being part of my Air Force youth center, 4 H and BGCA Club for nearly 7 years. My
Youth Center and Club has given me so many amazing opportunities to interact with other kids
my own age, as well as being a mentor to the younger kids. We moved to Grand Forks, ND from
Naples, Italy in 2011. This was a really difficult time for me as we had been living overseas for 11
years. I had only known Guam and Italy, so moving to the States was a huge adjustment.
I began to attend Thompson Middle School which did not go very well in the beginning. I was very
depressed as I was being bullied every day. I was different; I was a military brat with a disability

Manifest Destiny And Western Expansion
Manifest Destiny
In the 19th century the settlers in America believed they had a mandate from God to expand west,
this is called the Manifest Destiny. This expansion would involve not merely territorial
aggrandizement, but the progress of liberty and individual economic opportunity as well. The
Manifest Destiny shaped America throughout the years. Three main things that revolve around the
Manifest Destiny are the moon race with Russia, western expansion, and how we found more
resources and advancements in technology. Western expansion was the main topic in the Manifest
Destiny, but the Manifest Destiny was not the only thing involved with western expansion. One of
the other main factors in Western expansion was the louisiana purchase. In 1803, President Thomas
Jefferson purchased the territory of Louisiana from the French government for $15 million. The
land that the bought stretched from the Mississippi river to the Rocky mountains, and from Canada
to New Orleans, it was also double the size of the United States. James K. Polk was the 11th
presidents of the United states of America. His name is perhaps most closely associated with
Manifest Destiny, because a year before he became the president, the Manifest destiny started the
embody the governing philosophy of the Polk administration and its ardently expansionist aims.
Polk s campaigning methods is the leading cause to his victory of becoming the president of
America. He campaigned on an expansionist platform,

Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Summary Chapter 12
During the fourth chapter of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the journey towards the Green
Chapel commences. Sir Gawain is escorted by a member of the Red Manor, who gives the
knight a heed of warning. The escort offers advice to not travel to the Green Chapel, and if he
chose this path, the escort would not tell of his fleeing. Sir Gawain thanks the escort for his
warning but tells him that he has to keep his word, otherwise he would become a coward. The
chapel was almost missed, if it not for Sir Gawain noticing a rounded hillock on the bank of a
stream, near the bed of a torrent that tumbled there (Sir Gawain 2172 73). Sir Gawain entered
the mound, which was the entrance to the chapel. Here, he met up with the Green Knight. This
is where he reached the end of his quest and was destined to receive his blow to the neck. Sir
Gawain moved away from the first attempt, which caused the Knight to suspect that he was not
the true knight of the quest. After a dialogue was exchanged between the two, the Green Knight
struck a blow to Sir Gawain, which only nicked his neck. The Green Knight told him that his
wife was Morgan, whom Gawain spent time with in the Manor, and she was sent to test Gawain.
The Green Knight called Sir Gawain one of the most perfect men who ever walked on the earth
(Sir Gawain 2363). Sir Gawain replied in anger, saying that he was not a virtuous knight, therefore
he doesn t deserve such a remark. Sir Gawain was sent back to Arthur s

Native American Arts
Native Americans treasure one thing in their culture the most; the arts. Native American art is
the works created by the natives of North America. Art can come in many forms, but are most
present in the visual arts and melodic arts, which can then fall under several categories. Art is
considered a symbol of Native American heritage and the overall culture of world art. It has
been a major part of their lives for thousands of years. The Native American arts serve the
purpose of self expression, which plays an extensive role in everyday Native American life.
Native American art history has been developing for over thousands of years. The arts have a
vast deep connection with spirituality and the Earth. It s a way of life for almost all Native
Americans and can be traced back to cave paintings and stonework. Each piece of art is designed
to reveal the complexity of the diverse tribes. One of the most popular forms of art is jewelry; it
s heavy in symbolism which makes is more easily accepted. Native Americans are better known
for their skills in carving intricate patterns and designs. Often, their inspiration will actually come
from the natural world surrounding them. The arts, to the Native Americans, hold more
symbolism to them than a lot of the other aspects their culture holds and is a part of. Native
American art is created as symbols such as bears, walruses, eagles, and people. Basket and blanket
weaving are a very popular form of art, and the Navajo tribe is most

Math Of Cheerleading Essay
The Math of Stunting
The physical nature of the sport cheerleading, demands a grasp on the knowledge of how both the
forces that are exerted and those one experiences will affect one s performance in a stunt or trick.
Physics and mathematics can be found everywhere in cheerleading: 8 counts direct a dancing
routine, weight distribution determines a three level pyramid. The highly organized nature of
cheerleading, with all of its formations and different groupings of, in Columbia River s case,
members based on their job in that stunt back spot, base, or flyer can hardly be removed from the
concepts of math. Rather, a cheerleader with a true knowledge of physics and mathematics will
undoubtedly be more successful in their happenings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we measured in meters then a=4.9.) t is the time in seconds, v0 is the initial velocity of 30 feet
per second, and s0 is the initial height or 4 feet. Thus we have: h(t)= 16t^2+30t+4 as a model for
the height.
Note that we disregard complicating factors such as air resistance, spin, because the uncertainty and
unpredictability of these factors leads to a much more complicated equation than needed.
(a) Will the flyer reach 20 feet?
Let h(t)=20 and solve:
20= 16t^2+30t+4
16t^2+30t 16=0
Using the quadratic formula, x=( bВ±в€
љ(b^2 4ac))/2a , we can solve for t: x=(
30В±в€
љ(гЂ–30гЂ—^2 4( 16)( 16)))/(2( 16)) The discriminant, x= bВ±в€
љ(b^2 4ac) , is 124 so
there are no real solutions. The flyer will never reach 20 feet with the given initial velocity.
The graph of height vs time:
Height (in feet)
Time (in seconds) (b) What initial velocity is required to achieve a height of 25 ft.?
Let h(t)=25 and solve for V_0: 25= 16t^2+v_0 t+4 16t^2+v_0 t=21 v_0 t=21+16t^2 v_0=21/t+16t
We want to minimize this function. Using calculus we find the minimum to be at t approximately
1.15 seconds and velocity approximately 36.66 feet per

Media Influences our Children
Media Effect on Today s Youth Media plays a strong hand in the development of a child in
society. Youth are easily influenced and could think actions of unsavory morals are appropriate
because it was in media. This is a major problem today as the news make reports of children
intentionally committing crimes as big as murder. Children are experimenting with drugs and
alcohol at an earlier age and there is even a show dedicated to teen moms on MTV. Of course,
media is not the only force at fault here as peers and parents are just as much to blame as media.
The media is full of violence, sex and the use of addictive substances, that affects youth negatively.
Being a youth in today s society is challenging. On a daily basis, many positive and... Show more

Teens have always been easily influenced by the idea of sex, but it has gotten out of control in
recent years. It becomes a problem when children as young as twelve or even younger is having
sex and doesn t even know the risk. Young men and women are displaying more mature qualities
than a twelve year old should. There is a running joke among social media, The joke involves the
clothing and behavior of students from older generations compared to this generation. How long
ago a dress or skirt that showed your knees was considered trashy and now shorter is a common
fashion statement even among preteens. The media help promote this as teens in media are shown
following this fashion statement. Cartoons are not absent of messages of sexual related content, but
they are a bit more covert about it. Teenage pregnancies are big problems and are even being used
on television for entertainment. As youth start experiencing the urge to have sex more with the
increase of violence, there is becoming a higher rate of youth rapes. The media does not cause these
events to happen, but there is a contribution that can be reduced that will benefit the youth of
america better than doing nothing. Drugs

Relations Between Iran And The Middle East
Oil. This one word can explain the relationship between the western world especially the United
States and the Middle East. It can be used to trace the reasoning behind many interactions between
these two spheres of the world. It is also the basis of one of the most controversial foreign policy
operations of the United States, Operation Ajax. Although Operation Ajax happened sixty years
ago, its consequences had immediate and lasting effects on both Iranand American Iranian
relations. I will argue that the coup led to the 1979 Islamic revolution and consequently put into
motion the strained relations between Iran and the United States; it also had significant effects on
both the United States and Iran s political history. I will cement my argument by giving a detailed
account of Operation Ajax and the players involved in it as well as giving descriptive examples of
why it happened as well as how it continues to have a lasting effect.
The United States has no credibility as a bearer of democracy to Iran because of its role in
crushing democracy there half a century ago (Kinzer xvii). This was said by Akbar Ganji an
Iranian dissident who precisely struck a significant point of American Iranian relations. That one
sentence explains exactly what happened during Operation Ajax Iran s first democracy was
destroyed in an attempt to protect self interested parties of the western world. Operation Ajax was a
coup organized and carried out by the United States Central Intelligence

The Module Brands And Branding Essay
1. Introduction
In this report for the first assessment of the module Brands and Branding I will critically discuss
the growing importance and meaning of brands in contemporary consumer culture. Brands are
omnipresent in todays life. Everywhere you look around you can see different brands. Our life
with brands already starts early in the morning when we get up out from our bed, which was made
by a company with his own brand. We go to the bathroom to brush our teeth with a toothpaste e. g.
from „Colgate . Thats the way we go though the day. We write messages via „Whatsapp from
a smartphone often from a big company like Apple or Samsung. Apple for an example is a brand
which produces a smartphones, tablets, laptops or watches. But the names of these products are
also brands. When I am thinking about the first smartphone my first thought rises the „iPhone
and „Steve Jobs . A Person and an advanced mobile phone, but also they both are brands for
themselves. So you can see we are so „manipulatet by big brands that I had no chance to think
about any other brand which also produce well designed smartphones with a high usability.
They are not only lifestyle gadges which grew importance of brands. We can take a look at the
brand Rolex for example. Rolex has his origin in Germany before the watchmaker has founded
Rolex as a company in Switzerland in 1908. This company has a very long tradition an his
watches carring their original value over decades. It is not a fashion brand and

Kyoto Protocol Of The Unfccc ( 2005 )
The Kyoto Protocol to the UNFCCC (2005)
1. Introduction
Founded on the belief that humans are ultimately responsible for global warming, the Kyoto
Protocol was signed in 1997 and made effective in 2005 with the aim of reducing national
quantitative greenhouse gas emissions by 5.2% (compared with emissions in 1990) in
industrialised countries worldwide. This would equate to a 29% cut overall by 2010. The protocol
intends to specifically reduce global emissions of carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, sulphur
hexafluoride, HFCs and PFCs (www.kyotoprotocol.com). The protocol was later revised in its
second commitment period stating that an 18% cut (compared with 1990) in emissions between
2013 2020 would be its next target. The Kyoto Protocol created three market based
mechanisms...known as the carbon market to support its targets (UNFCCC). These mechanisms
covered emissions trading, the clean development mechanism (CDM) and joint implementation.
Combined, the mechanisms are geared towards encouraging sustainable development using
technology and investment, reducing emissions in an economically viable way and stimulating
developing countries to reduce their emissions too. International cooperation was essential for the
Kyoto Protocol to be enforced and achieve its aims. As the protocol seeks to reduce greenhouse
emissions globally, efforts are needed from all industrialised countries emitting harmful gases into
the Earth s atmosphere. Without adequate participation

Except when the effect would be antidilutive, the calculation of diluted net income attributable to Trinity per common share includes 1) the net impact of unvested restricted shares and shares that could be issued under outstanding stock options and 2) the incremental shares calculated by dividing the value of the conversion obligation in excess of the Convertible Subordinated Notes aggregate principal amount by the average price of the Company s common stock during the period. The effect of the Convertible Subordinated Notes was antidilutive for the years ended December 31, 2013 and 2012. Reflective practice is the process that enables individuals to achieve better understanding of themselves, their understanding, their skills, competencies and their workplace practices in general. Reflective practice allows us to reflect on our actions and experiences so that we can learn from them and adapt our behaviour accordingly. • 4. Women In Homer s Iliad And The Woman In Genesis The women in Homer s Iliad and the women in Genesis both exhibit the accepted societal values in a woman through their duties as wives, which typically consists of obedience and the ability to sustain their husband s lineage. Rebekah and Andromache both assume their roles as wives, but sometimes act in ways outside of what was considered normal in their society. Though both Rebekah and Andromache maintain the classic role of a wife, they occasionally contradict the expectations of how a womanshould behave by making decisions traditionally made by men. Through revolutionary behaviors demonstrated by both women, they grant themselves more authority and power in decision making, which in turn affects the fate of each woman s family. Both ... Andromache pleads with Hector to stay with her and her son while the war progresses, using her suggestions of military action to prevent Hector from facing his foreseen destiny of being killed by Achilles. This type of request followed by her ability to share her insight and advice with her husband demonstrates not only the type of relationship the two have between one another, but how Andromache steps out of the classic idea of being one with very limited power in her ability to influence her husband s views. She states her views to take initiative for her own self interest, not just her husband s. Hector takes this advice, but ultimately his own self interest controls his actions, just like Andromache s does to her, and decides to leave for the war so that he maintains his honor (timД“), but before leaving he asks her to go back to the house now and take care of [her] work (Il. 6.515). Hector now orders Andromache to do her wifely duties and Andromache obeys as she went back home (Il. 6.520). Here she exhibits a sort of contradiction to her previous actions, from being outspoken and making decisions to reversing back to her boundaries as a wife by obeying her husband s demands. Paradoxically, Andromache s previous behaviors would show that she is defying social norms, however she recognizes her limitations once Hector rejects her ideas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. John Muir Preservationism Conserving means to protect (something, especially an environmentally or culturally important place or thing) from harm or destruction. John Muir, a famous preservationist is someone I agree with completely, his idea of preservationism is the best way to help our earth. Not damming Hetch Hetchy Valley was what really drew me into him. He believed that politicians were using nature as a way to get material gains. Muir believed that nature should be protected and should be kept beautiful. He states at one point that everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in where nature may heal and cheer and give strength to body and soul alike. (Who was John Muir? The Sierra Club) He s saying that beauty is just as crucial... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... John believed that turning places into national parks would be a great way to conserve them, this allows for wild life and plants to be monitored and kept under control. With his great love for the idea of national parks, came a lot of pro s for the environment. Biodiversity plays an important role in national parks, biodiversity helps to keep environments clean and healthy for wild life. It allows for climate regulation, pollination and water purification. Yosemite National Parkwas one of Muir s creates accomplishments. He first traveled there in 1868 an loved the beauty and scenery so much that he decided to come back the next year and get a job as a rancher. Soon he became very concerned about natural landscape preservation. John Muir, being a preservationist, makes him the most admirable choice because he believed in protecting wild places for the sake of people and the sake of the well being of the earth. Pinchot, Muir s opposite, believed that conservation went hand in hand with development and that damming Hetch Hetchy would improve supplies in San Fransisco. The difference between conservationism and preservationism is that most times conservation focuses more on the needs of human beings. Preservationism is more focused on maintaining where the earth is at the time and the areas that are touched by humans. This idea helps to stop the invasion of human beings taking over open land and making them into farms and industries for developmental gain. This means that whatever we can preserve now, we can have in the future. A balance between the two would be difficult because of how strongly these opposing sides feel about the environment and what should be done in its best interest. I don t feel that a balance is possible because a lot of times human needs are the reason for natures destruction such as knocking down forests for paper, and building dams to help increase a water supply. Not only do these human needs take away ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. What Are The Pros And Cons Of Common Core Common Core State Standards have been a hot topic for a few years. While both sides of the argument make valid points, often people lose sight of the greatest importance in the debate. The students. The children s best interests need to be on the forefront of either side. Nearly all can agree that in educationa national set of standards is necessary for this country. This is not the first time in history that America s educational principles have been up for debate. The basic idea of common core is to prepare students for responsibility as a citizen in this society. Students must be able to read and distill complex sentences and must be equipped with basic mathematical skills. The actual impact the standards will have on education will not be revealed for several years, however it is thought that implementing a national set of standards will nothing... Digging deeper into concepts and increasing rigor will enable our children to be competitive in today s world and the playing field comparing our educational system to other countries will be leveled. Higher education has a history of complaining that students are not ready for college level courses and remediation classes have been necessary. Implementing common core could eliminate those classes while teaching students how to think and problem solve before leaving high school. An additional issue against common core is the financial burdens that could be put on schools and districts as a result of implementation. From purchasing newly aligned textbooks and materials, to updating technology in order to complete the standard assessment all online. With this assessment comes an increased value in the results. Advances in technology however have created new options for women who have a defective uterus or defective ovaries. Two alternatives that are gaining popularity are straight surrogacy and host surrogacy. In straight surrogacy, or traditional surrogacy, the surrogate mother is impregnated with the sperm of the intended father by way of artificial insemination. In these cases, the surrogate mother not only carries the child but is genetically linked to the child as well. She however relinquishes her role of social mother to the intended mother. After handing over the child, eleven of the woman experienced only mild difficulties, one reported moderate difficulty, and the rest reported not having any difficulties. After a year only two reported experiencing occasional mild difficulties, while the rest reported none. In none of the cases did any of the woman report feeling that the child was like their own. As it was put by one of the woman, she never viewed it as handing over the child, instead she considered she was handing back the child. The Protestant Ethic And Spirit Of Capitalism Brayan MunanteSpring 2017 Prof. DeliaTERM PAPER Sociology 101 The Protestant Ethic and Spirit of Capitalism Max Weber (1864 1920) considered seriously about the emerging dilemmas from the socio cultural and political state of affairs in Germany and criticised purely the historical materialistic concept of explanations. Within his book The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism , Weber instead depicts a more conceivable and pragmatic explanation that the materialization of capitalism owed much to the specific patterns of religious motivational explanations in Calvinism between various industrialists at that period. Additionally, Weber explains that the progress in administrative sphere can be directed only through a guided reckoning, impartiality and competence. In the intellectual sphere, progress was thought to be achieved by the aid of scientific methods, testing skills, experiential data collection because theories that are imitative through scientific reasoning supersede to those that are previously attributed to magical causes. However, this particular enlightenment ideology of motive and self realisation is distinguishable with that of Marx s view of progress and is still qualified by Weber by the rationalisation itself. Compared to Marx perspective, the rationalisation and progress according to Weber involve the positive features of effectiveness, manageability, uniformity, unavoidability and impartiality. These positive aspects of rationalisation can result in enhanced capacity, the development of capacity and power relations and thereby assists in attaining progress in each sphere depicted above. Unlike Marx, rationalisation in economic perspective as witnessed in Western Capitalism was been considered by Weber as the process of reasoning out unreasonable sentiments that hamper accrual and estimation of profit, progress and sentiments like faith, thoughtfulness solidarity ... This has helped Toyota achieve their objective of growth, since they are extending out to people and enticing them to pick Toyota and also has helped to show how successful their marketing technique is. However Toyota also has cons, for example a con with their marketing techniques: not all of the information they provide customers with is 100% true. Toyota have a certain amount of merchandise which they need to sell to consumers, and if they do not manage to, then they lower the price and discount it in order to entice customers. However, when it is put into perspective that they have even cheaper cars, there are still others that are much cheaper, with similar specification. E.g. There are many themes in Home Alone and Ransom of Red Chief but the one that stood out to me the most was that the looks of people can be extremely different from their actions. In the story Ransom of Red Chief the story states The kid was a freckle faced boy of ten with freckles that stood out. His hair was the color of the cover of the magazine you buy at the newsstand when you want to catch a train. Hey little boy! Says Bill Would you like to have a bag of candy and a nice ride? The boy hits Bill square in the eye with a piece of brick . This illustrates that most people who read this story think he is a good kid by his looks until you read where he hits Bill in the head with a brick. Bill thought he was a good kid but Bill learned the hard way. In a scene from Home Alonethe bad guys are looking through the house window and think he s a helpless little boy, but when they try to get into the house they see he s not at all what he looks like. Kevin made the steps icey so they would slip, put a blow torch above the door so it would burn their hair and made an iron fall on Marv s face. This reveals that people first judge others based on their looks but they don t truly know what they are like. Kevin and Johnny look like innocent people but they have another side. The characters in Ransom of Red Chief and Home Alone are very similar. Kevin and Johnny are both very mischievous and very rowdy. In the story Ransom of Red Chief it states He was throwing rocks at a kitten on a fence. This reveals the actions Johnny does and how he can be mischievous. Johnny was throwing rocks at a kitten for no reason. Leases vs. Purchase: Advantages and Disadvantages There are numerous advantages to leasing over purchasing, the majority of which relate to cash flows, financing issues and financial reporting. Specifically, leases have the potential to offer a lower interest over the long term and only lay claim on the leased asset, not on all assets (Wahlen et al., 2013). Additionally, leases do not constrict cash flows to the same extent as purchasing. For example the statement of cash flows demonstrates Amazon used $2.4 billion and $121 million to repay capital lease and finance lease obligations respectively, foregoing the drastically greater cash outflow if Amazon were to purchase these assets. • 32. David Boonin Argument Analysis As it was presented earlier, David Boonin s interest based argument has three major elements: 1) A modified future like ours account of Don Marquis, 2) Relationship between desires and right to life, and 3) Organized cortical brain activity as a necessary condition for the onset of consciousness. It is the first two elements which are of major concern here. David Boonin modifies Marquis future like ours argument and converts it to a desire based account, before developing his analytical distinction of desires that has been shown earlier. Once values and desires are used interchangeably (which itself raises concerns), the idea that the foetus values its future or comes to value its future can be restated as that which a foetus desires, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, it is not the property of the valuable future that is morally significant. It is the desire for a valuable future which is morally important. Second, there is an implicit emphasis on the present. The foetus in this new version desires in the present that its future be preserved. In the original version the foetus will come to value its future. In fact, the focus on the present is perhaps one of the reasons Boonin has to focus on desires. What drives Boonin to focus on the present is that the morally significant property that would confer the status of personhood on the foetus must be actually present in the foetus for it to qualify as a person. If it is a potential property, an essential property or even a capacity for a potential property, then Boonin will not be able to argue against those who support the foetus inviolability from the moment of conception. Boonin must show that the foetus is not inviolable before they start to have present conscious desires. Since he is basing his argument on Marquis future like ours argument, any modification of the original argument to the present conscious desires version must be done in such a way that the same criteria applies to infants, suicidal teenagers, temporary comatose adults as well as the foetus. In order for the argument to work on all these cases, Boonin creates the analytical distinctions between the occurrent vs dispositional desires and actual vs ideal desires, as presented earlier, to say that it is the property of only present ideal dispositional conscious desires that is a morally significant property for personhood. Once the foetus meets the conditions necessary of conscious desires, that is from the onset of advanced organised cortical brain activity, a foetus can have present ideal dispositional conscious ... The horizontal integrations actually works by acquiring or by creating the production units for the product output in the market to increase their market share by increasing the economic share and economies scale in the market. By having the horizontal integration the firm can show their presence and strength in the market even by distributing and routing their goods and services. For example, GE firm has variety of products and services like Universal pictures, universal parks, medical systems (William Boyes, 2012). etc., where it has more market economic share and economies of scope. The work covers various aspects of the functions, procedures and evolution of Canadian legislatures, both provincial and federal. The analysis undertaken by Docherty, as expressed in his own words, constitutes an audit of the existing legislatures and their procedures as they have historically operated as well as in their modern iterations. Externally of the government, parties and individual MP s do not receive the same type of research support as well as funding as those which hold particular positions such as Ministers or meet standards set by the Board of Internal Economy. Unfortunately, hospital visits are inevitable with two active boys. One cousin actually fractured his skull requiring an emergency room visit and CT scans, which took two years for my aunt to fully pay for. These experiences, which many Americans will encounter, cause the majority of the population to avoid the health care system unless confronted with dire circumstances. Our health care system deters undeserved populations and uninsured individuals from participating in routine check ups or visiting primary care physicians, contributing decreasing practice of preventative care. As human beings, it is our civil duty to ensure the well being of the community and not just that of the individual. One of the most recognizable difference is the lack of pagan representation in the art. Similar to renaissance art Greek and Roman art is still very religiously based, but the only difference is that one religion is Christian and the other is pagan. This creates a very different subject matter for the two types of art which despite looking very similar make them very different. The next different between the classical and renaissance art periods are the the creation of ideal beauty. Throughout the time of classical art and the first three renaissance periods everything looked perfect, but when you achieved perfection how were you supposed to go up from there? Di Vinci answered that question and in turn developed the high renaissance movement. He makes figures look beyond beautiful and furthers them to look perfect. This is a style that makes the high renaissance period stand out and in turn makes it so much more different with the classical art period. The last major difference between the renaissance and the classical period is the use of linear perspective in renaissance art. Faith, or undying trust, can be applied to many areas of life in our pursuit of knowledge; whether it may be for religious purposes or having confidence in world leaders or family members. Although it does not require physical evidence, faithis based on such strong beliefs that so many trust it to be the truth. Unfortunately, as human beings, we may not always be correct in our way of thinking. Questions concerning faith as a way of knowing arise when regarding morals or ethics, as well as some have a different faith than others. Faith is a more modern approach to a way of knowing, however, has played such a large part since the beginning of human existence. While thinking of faith, religion is usually first to come to mind. And it is true, faith plays a large part in religion. You must have faith that your way of life is the way you are meant to live. As previously stated, faith does not require empirical evidence, however not having any evidence is justified in the individual s life. • 53. Kyoto Protocol Of The Unfccc ( 2005 ) The Kyoto Protocol to the UNFCCC (2005) 1. Introduction Founded on the belief that humans are ultimately responsible for global warming, the Kyoto Protocol was signed in 1997 and made effective in 2005 with the aim of reducing national quantitative greenhouse gas emissions by 5.2% (compared with emissions in 1990) in industrialised countries worldwide. This would equate to a 29% cut overall by 2010. The protocol intends to specifically reduce global emissions of carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, sulphur hexafluoride, HFCs and PFCs (www.kyotoprotocol.com). The protocol was later revised in its second commitment period stating that an 18% cut (compared with 1990) in emissions between 2013 2020 would be its next target. The Kyoto Protocol created three market based mechanisms...known as the carbon market to support its targets (UNFCCC). These mechanisms covered emissions trading, the clean development mechanism (CDM) and joint implementation. Combined, the mechanisms are geared towards encouraging sustainable development using technology and investment, reducing emissions in an economically viable way and stimulating developing countries to reduce their emissions too. International cooperation was essential for the Kyoto Protocol to be enforced and achieve its aims. As the protocol seeks to reduce greenhouse emissions globally, efforts are needed from all industrialised countries emitting harmful gases into the Earth s atmosphere.
