   Qualifications
       B.S. Degree from Trinity University,
           Management Information Systems (MIS)
       15 years as an IT Pro
           Texas Instruments; Mobil Oil; PepsiCo; Cap Gemini; Verizon; Fidelity
            Investments; others
      17 years – owner of an IT Placement firm
     Placed over: 825+ IT Professionals
     r2 Tech grew 12.8% in 2009
     R2 Tech grew 31.1% in 2010


   Try to find 1-2 items that you can use in your job search!

   You have 15-20 seconds to IMPRESS a decision maker
       HR’s job is to ‘reject’ resumes.
   Think
       “How can my resume impress someone that I can do this job”
   Bullet format is easier to read instead of paragraph format.
   Don’t limit yourself to 2 pages!
       Our recommendation: 1 page for every 5-7 years of experience.

   Should not be a novel!
   Don’t use first person “I, myself, we, Mr. Smith, etc.
   Send your resume in MS Word format
   Don’t have a picture on your resume
   Fancy paper is not necessary

 MUST be Clear, Concise, and Detailed.
 MUST be DELIVERABLE DRIVEN
    Ahead of Schedule (measured by a time frame)
    Budget (dollars saved, percentage)
    Implementation ($$$ generated (preferred), $$$
     saved, reduced headcount)
 MUST  answer the “So What” Question
 MUST be custom tailored for a specific Job
 MUST have Keywords (preferably within the
  context of your deliverables)

 No  one standard type or format, many are
  visually acceptable
 Use color sparingly
 Use Bolding/un-bolding to emphasize your
  skills to match a specific job
     Don’t go overboard with underlining, italics, etc.
 Balance     Whitespace with Clutter
     You want make your resume easy to read by
      various ‘eyes’ (Recruiter, Hiring Mgr, VP, etc).
 Spell   check, Spell check, SPELL CHECK!

           Name, Phone number, and e-mail
   Objective / Summary / Career Highlights
   Technical Skills / Summary of Skills
   Professional Experience / Work Experience / Job

   Publications (highly desirable)
   References & Hobbies
       Leave off, have a separate document with this information
        and send it if requested

   Professionals with a Technical Background should list their
    skills in their resume
       Location/position of the Technical skills is based upon person’s
        background
           Technical Skills should be listed on first page of a resume for:
             Software Programmer; DBA; Sys Admin; Network Admin; Tech
              Writer; Web Developer; College Graduates…
           Technical Skills should be listed on the last page of a resume for:
             Directors, Senior Managers, Business Analysts
   Technical Accomplishments and tasks should be moved
    around based upon the job description
   Use the Technical Name spelled out with the acronym in ()
    Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK)
   MUST be visually spell checked. No one wants to hire a
    technologist that can’t spell the technology that they are an
    expert in. Don’t trust MS Word to do this. It’s up to you!

 Full Company Name [acronym in ()], City, State,
  and month/year
 Job Title
 1-2 sentences describing the company’s products
  and services.
 Describe your role (in Bullet format) and

       AT LEAST 3-4 bullets answering the ‘So What”
        question
   After the last 5-7 years, start reducing your
    experience, unless it directly impacts the position
    you are applying for.

You have 15-20 seconds to IMPRESS a decision maker  HR’s job is to ‘reject’ resumes.  Think  “How can my resume impress someone that I can do this job”  Bullet format is easier to read instead of paragraph format.  Don’t limit yourself to 2 pages!  Our recommendation: 1 page for every 5-7 years of experience.  Should not be a novel!  Don’t use first person “I, myself, we, Mr. Smith, etc.  Send your resume in MS Word format  Don’t have a picture on your resume  Fancy paper is not necessary r2 Technologies 4/8/2012 4

Professionals with a Technical Background should list their skills in their resume  Location/position of the Technical skills is based upon person’s background  Technical Skills should be listed on first page of a resume for:  Software Programmer; DBA; Sys Admin; Network Admin; Tech Writer; Web Developer; College Graduates…  Technical Skills should be listed on the last page of a resume for:  Directors, Senior Managers, Business Analysts  Technical Accomplishments and tasks should be moved around based upon the job description  Use the Technical Name spelled out with the acronym in () Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK)  MUST be visually spell checked.
