Progressive Elaboration. The iterative process of
increasing the level of detail in a project management
plan as greater amounts of information and more
accurate estimates become available (Rolling Wave
Planning).

Constraint. A limiting factor that affects the execution
of a project, program, portfolio, or process (time, cost,
quality, scope, risk, resources & customer satisfaction).

Scope
Project Management. The application of knowledge,
skills, tools, and techniques to project activities to meet
the project requirements.

Project Management Office (PMO). An organizational
structure that standardizes the project-related
governance processes and facilitates the sharing of
resources, methodologies, tools, and techniques
(supportive, controlling & directive).

Product-oriented processes. These processes specify and create
the project’s product. Product-oriented processes are typically
defined by the project life cycle (as next) and vary by
application area as well as the phase of the product life cycle.
The scope of the project cannot be defined without some basic
understanding of how to create the specified product. For
example, various construction techniques and tools need to be
considered when determining the overall complexity of the
house to be built.

Product Life Cycle. The series of phases that represent the
evolution of a product, from concept through delivery, growth,
maturity, and to retirement (cost-benefit ratio).
Project Life Cycle. The series of phases that a project passes
through from its initiation to its closure.
