Princess Butterscotch 2

Butterscotch’s Back Story
Butterscotch is an orange cat and a modern history
teacher who loves learning about old stories and ancient
kingdoms. She spent most of her time reading books in
the library. One day, while reaching for an old book on a
high shelf, a glowing portal suddenly opened behind the
book she tried to grab. Before she could react, she slipped
through it, and the portal disappeared behind her.
Butterscotch found herself trapped in an underground
kingdom called Bluelight. The kingdom was dark, quiet,
and very different from the modern world she came from.
The villagers spoke formally, used no technology, and
followed strict traditions. Although she was frightened
and missed home, Butterscotch used her knowledge of
history to understand the kingdom and avoid standing out
too much.
Soon, she met Chestnut and Weston, two cats who serve
as royal advisors, dedicated to helping the kingdom heal
after the former princess’s unfair rule left it unstable.
Even though Chestnut and Weston were respected enough
to rule the kingdom themselves, neither of them wanted
power for selfish reasons. Chestnut believed a true ruler
should be kind, patient, and able to unite others, while
Weston believed the kingdom deserved someone hopeful
and fair. When they met Butterscotch, they immediately
recognized those qualities in her. Even though
Butterscotch still hoped to return home someday, she
slowly began to feel that she might have an important
place in Bluelight after all.
Welcome, Princess Butterscotch (Butterscotch’s
Coronation)
The grand hall of Bluelight fell into complete silence as
Sir Leopold stepped forward with the royal council. He
trusts the royal advisors (Chestnut and Weston), who the
kingdom needs. The stone walls seemed still, as if the
entire kingdom was waiting for the next moment.
Butterscotch stood in the center of the hall, wearing the
bright pink princess dress Chestnut had made for her. The
soft pink fabric stood out against the cold gray stone. She
looked nervous, but she did not step back.
Chestnut and Weston stood nearby, watching closely.
Sir Leopold raised his voice.
Leopold The Cat: Citizens of Bluelight. After careful
judgment, the council hath reached its decision.
A pause filled the hall.
Sir Leopold: Butterscotch is hereby named Princess of
Bluelight.
The room remained still for a heartbeat. Then every cat
bowed. The guards bowed first. Then the council. Then
the villagers at the back of the hall. The entire kingdom
lowered their heads.
Two royal attendants stepped forward carrying a simple
crown. It was made of polished metal with soft arches, not
covered in jewels, meant for a ruler chosen by the
kingdom.
Butterscotch watched it approach, her breath slowing.
Chestnut gave a small nod.
Weston: (whispers) Okay…this is really happening.
Leopold stepped closer.
Leopold: Princess Butterscotch, dost thou accept the
charge of guiding Bluelight with fairness, patience, and
truth?
Butterscotch hesitated for only a moment.
Butterscotch: I accept with honor.
Sir Leopold lowered the crown. Slowly, he placed it on
her head. The crown settled over her pink dress and scarf,
simple but meaningful. The hall stayed silent for a
moment. Then Chestnut stepped forward and bowed his
head.
Chestnut: We shall stand with thee.
Weston smiled.
A soft wave of movement passed through the crowd of
animals again, but this time it felt different. Less fear.
More hope.
Butterscotch stood still under the crown, wearing
Chestnut’s pink dress, looking out at the kingdom of
Bluelight.
For the first time, she was not just a visitor.
She was their princess.
After the crown was placed, the great hall of Bluelight
slowly settled into a new kind of silence. Butterscotch
was officially princess. It was no longer fear-filled, but
uncertain, as if the kingdom itself was waiting to see what
would happen next.
Butterscotch stood tall at the center of the hall, the crown
steady on her head.
Chestnut stepped beside her.
Chestnut: What is your first command, Your Highness?
Weston leaned in slightly.
Weston: No pressure. Just, you know, shaping the entire
kingdom’s future.
Butterscotch thought for only a moment, then spoke
clearly.
Butterscotch: First, I want to see everything. The village,
the workers, the food stores, and how decisions are made.
Chestnut nodded at once.
Chestnut: A wise beginning.
The Princess’s First Decree
Leopold the cat stepped forward with the council still
gathered.
Sir Leopold: Shall we announce your first decree to the
kingdom?
Butterscotch answered calmly.
Butterscotch: Yes. Tell them this: no task in the kingdom
is too small to be ignored. If something needs fixing, it
will be fixed.
Weston blinked.
Weston: That sounds like things are about to get busy.
Chestnut gave a slight approving nod.
Chestnut: It means the kingdom will move again.
Soon, the doors of the great hall opened, and Butterscotch
walked out first. The crown sat firmly on her head as she
stepped into the stone courtyard.
The villagers gathered quickly, watching her closely.
Sir Leopold raised his voice.
Sir Leopold: By order of the new princess, all parts of the
kingdom are to be observed and improved where needed.
No neglect shall remain unaddressed.
A ripple moved through the crowd.
Butterscotch stepped forward so all could see her clearly.
Butterscotch: The kingdom will get better. We will fix all
things that need to be repaired. We will rebuild what was
left unfinished, together.
There was a pause.
Then, slowly, the villagers began to bow again, not out of
fear this time, but recognition.
Weston leaned toward Chestnut.
Weston: She is actually really good at this.
Chestnut replied quietly.
Chestnut: She understands structure. She sees what
others overlook.
Butterscotch watched as the villagers began speaking
again, some for the first time in a long while. Small
movements started across the courtyard. Orders were
questioned. Tasks were discussed. Work began without
hesitation.
Chestnut stepped beside her.
Chestnut: The kingdom is listening.
Butterscotch nodded once, steady and focused.
Butterscotch: Then we continue.
And for the first time in many years, the kingdom did not
feel frozen in time.
It began to change.
The Courtyard of Bluelight Castle
Later that evening, the stone courtyard was quiet.
Lanterns flickered along the walls, casting soft light over
the newly painted pink sections of the castle.
Butterscotch stood near the fountain with Chestnut and
Weston. The crown was still on her head, but she had
relaxed slightly, watching the water move again after the
repair.
For a moment, no one spoke.
Then Butterscotch finally broke the silence.
Butterscotch: Do you think I can still go back to my
timeline?
Weston looked at her quickly.
Weston: You mean your washer-and-light-box world?
Butterscotch smiled.
Butterscotch: Yes. The 21st century.
Chestnut answered more carefully.
Chestnut: The portal you came through is not
understood. It may still exist somewhere in the kingdom.
Butterscotch nodded slowly.
Butterscotch: Then I want to find it. Not because I regret
being here…but because I need to understand how it
brought me here.
Weston tilted his head.
Weston: So, you are not going to leave us immediately?
Butterscotch shook her head.
Butterscotch: No. I will rule the kingdom. But I also
want to find a way home, if it is possible.
Chestnut gave a calm nod.
Chestnut: Then we will search with you.
Weston smiled.
Weston: Great. Royal duties and portal hunting. Very
normal princess schedule.
Butterscotch let out a soft laugh.
For the first time, both paths felt real to her: the kingdom
she was learning to lead, and the world she had come
from.
After Butterscotch was officially named princess in the
15th-century kingdom of Bluelight, the kingdom slowly
became happier. The citizens were no longer as quiet or
afraid, and life in the stone streets felt lighter. Animals
began working together more often, and the daily tasks
that had once been ignored were finally getting done.
Work in the kingdom became more organized. Broken
buildings were repaired, food and supplies were better
managed, and the village square remained active.
Chestnut helped keep everything structured, Weston
encouraged everyone to stay positive, and Butterscotch
made fair decisions that helped things move forward.
Over time, the kingdom continued to improve. There was
more talking, more cooperation, and less fear than before.
Even though it was still a 15th-century underground
kingdom, it was slowly becoming a place where people
worked together and felt more hopeful about the future.
The citizens do not know Princess Butterscotch’s story.
Only Chestnut and Weston do.
Butterscotch and Chestnut walk slowly through the stone
hallway. Torchlight flickers on the walls.
Butterscotch: Chestnut…can I ask you something about
the old princess?
Chestnut: You may.
Butterscotch: What was she like? I only hear that she
was unfair, but I want to understand.
Chestnut pauses for a moment.
Chestnut: She ruled with strict control. She did not listen
to the village. She made decisions alone and expected
silence in return.
Butterscotch: So that is why everyone was afraid to
speak?
Chestnut: Yes. Over time, fear became normal here.
Butterscotch looks down the hallway.
Butterscotch: That must have made the kingdom very
lonely.
Chestnut nods slightly.
Chestnut: It did. That is why things feel different now.
Butterscotch looks ahead, more serious.
Butterscotch: I do not want them to feel that again.
Chestnut gives a calm, approving look.
Chestnut: That’s because you are a real princess.
Chestnut gave Butterscotch a big hug.
The two cats, Chestnut and Weston, are in the castle study
room in the kingdom.
Candles flicker across old maps spread on a wooden table.
The room is quiet except for a distant echo of the castle.
Weston: Chestnut…what do you think will happen when
we find the future portal?
Chestnut looks down at the map for a long moment.
Chestnut: Then she will have a choice. To return to her
timeline…or remain here as princess.
Weston goes quiet.
Weston: And if she leaves?
Chestnut does not answer right away. His ears lower
slightly. He looks toward the doorway where
Butterscotch’s voice can be faintly heard in the distance,
speaking with villagers.
His expression tightens, and his eyes begin to water.
Chestnut: I…mean well for her return home.
He pauses, struggling to keep his voice steady.
Chestnut: But I would miss her.
Weston blinks, surprised.
Weston: Chestnut…
Chestnut turns slightly away, trying to hide it.
Chestnut: And more than that…the kingdom would miss
a true princess.
His voice cracks a little on the last words.
Weston steps closer, softer now.
Weston: She still might choose to stay.
Chestnut shakes his head gently.
Chestnut: A princess should not be bound by us. If she
belongs to another world…we must let her go.
He wipes his eyes quickly, trying to regain composure.
Chestnut: But that does not make it any easier.
He stood up and looked out of the window.
Chestnut: If she leaves, we will still carry what she gave
this kingdom.
Weston was shocked, but he understood.
