Cristobal Ortega was born in Quito on October 24, 1965 , is an artist who revolutionized the art of finger paint in the United States. He studied at the University Cultural Center Extension ( CECU ) Quito, Ecuador , then did a course International Culture and Development (Palace of Conventions in Havana Cuba ), the Cultural Policy Course . Second international conference in Havana Cuba and the Course of research on art and culture in Havana Cuba . Cristobal Ortega has drawn only with his fingers 100 pictures in 60 minutes , becoming the world's fastest painter , attributing this skill to the energy received from their ancestors and the Pacha Mama .

El patrimonio cultural de Ecuador esta nutrido con la cosmovisión de uno de los representantes más importantes del siglo XXI, el pintor y escultor Cristóbal Ortega Maila.
Esta obra constituye una compilación de varios de los trabajos del artista, en los que propone su visión sobre la cultura ancestral de Ecuador, invitando a una aventura pictórica y escultórica en la que se puede apreciar la preocupación del autor por indagar sus orígenes y la voluntad por reinvindicar la visión del pueblo indígena, al igual que la de sus líderes y representantes.
A través de una serie de fotografías es posible apreciar las colecciones: “El Despertar de los Espíritus”, (piezas escultóricas), “Rostros y Ancestros”, (obras pictóricas). La primera visibiliza a líderes indígenas, ocultados por la historia, a quienes Ortega Maila intenta dar vida. Por su parte Rostros y Ancestros visibilizan varias costumbres y tradiciones de estos pueblos.
El artista tras recorrer el Camino del Inca, se fue nutriendo no sólo del pensamiento ancestral, también fue coleccionando copias de piezas ceremoniales que se exhiben en su obra cumbre, el Templo del Sol, con el objetivo de que las nuevas generaciones vivan y sientan la cultura ancestral.

“Ortega Maila ha salido de su pintura de intensa humanidad -ojalá no definitivamente- para hacer hablar la piedra. De bloques rústicos de la piedra más humilde, esa que se usa para los cimientos de los edificios, largamente acariciados con la lija hasta lograr calidades de obscuros pulimentos, ha evocado rostros. Toda una larga galería de rostros indoamericanos, de héroes milenarios de estas tierras nuestras. Y así ha titulado esa galería de rostros pétreos: “La Ruta de los Espíritus". Junto a cada cabeza, a cada rostro, ha inscrito el nombre de esos héroes que han inspirado esta poderosa empresa de evocación y creación.”
