The 4 Strategic Objectives
SECTION II
Environmental Impact
on Nutrition
Climate change is not just an environmental issue—it is a
nutrition crisis. Disrupted ecosystems mean disrupted plates.
33%
Food System's share of Global GHG Emissions
The food we eat contributes to about 1/3 of global greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, food systems are the primary victims of the climate shocks they help cause.
Rising Levels reduce food quality:

•
Micronutrient Dilution: Elevated reduces concentrations of
Iron, Zinc, and Protein in staple crops.
•
Vitamin Loss: Studies show up to 30% decrease in folate
and B-vitamins in rice under climate stress.
•
Economic Burden: Scarcity drives up the price of nutrient-
dense foods (fruit, fish, veg).
The Science of Hidden Hunger
How does elevated atmospheric carbon dioxide ( ) affect staple crops like rice?
Remember the concept of "Hidden Hunger"...

Climate-related food insecurity affects these groups
disproportionately:
Infants & Children: Stunting risks increase during
droughts/floods.
Pregnant Women: Higher micronutrient needs are harder to
meet when prices spike.
Smallholder Farmers: Those who grow the food are often the
most food-insecure.
Who is at Highest Risk?
INDIVIDUAL
Reduce food waste; choose local and
seasonal produce.
FAMILY
Establish home gardens; plan meals to
minimize waste.
GOVERNMENT
Integrate nutrition into climate adaptation
policies.
PRIVATE SECTOR
Adopt climate-friendly production and
plastic-free packaging.
INSTITUTIONS
Integrate sustainability into educational
curricula.
COMMUNITY
Support local Kadiwa centers and
community farms.
Call to Action: Shared Responsibility
Which of the following is a simple individual action that supports both nutrition and
nature?
Supporting local farmers is a double win...
