• #2 Hello, and welcome to TechForum Online! Introduction SalesData is a reporting tool that allows retailers, publishers, libraries, and other members of the book industry to access sales and inventory data from retailers across Canada. For more information, you can find BookNetCanada.ca For those of you who are already familiar with SalesData, welcome back! We’ll be going through an update on what the past year has held for SalesData, and what we’re planning for the future.
• #3 So let’s get right to it. SalesData, 2019 in review.
• #4 We’re actually going to start with what YOU’ve been up to. Our users have run over three hundred and thirty eight thousand reports, which adds up to *switch*
• #5  Over 1350 reports per business day. If you’re wondering how that compares to last year (switch)
• #6 We’re up by about 70 reports per day. Pretty impressive work, Data Nerds!
• #7 In addition to all these ad-hoc reports being run on the SalesData site, 1014 saved and scheduled reports are emailed to users direct each week. If you already use saved and scheduled reports, you probably know how handy they can be! If you haven’t, here’s a quick tutorial on how to set them up. (switch)
• #8 On every report results screen, you’ll find a button that reads Save/Distribute on the right-hand side of the page, just above your results grid. Clicking that button opens the “Save Options” menu. In the first pane, you should Name your report And select a reporting period (we recommend Most Recent 1 Week to get the most granular weekly update) (switch)
• #9 Once you’ve completed that, select next to reach the Share tab, and then Next again to reach the Schedule tab. This is where you’ll schedule your automated emails. Turn the Schedule Email toggle to YES And from there, you can update your report settings, like the filetype, number of rows, and recipients. Easy, automated reporting, right to your inbox. This can be a huge timesaver. (switch)
• #10 Based on the average amount of time it takes to log in and run a basic report Saves 25 hours per week or (click)
• #11 1300 hours per year. So many hours.
• #12 Or 37 work weeks of saved time for the industry.
• #13 In 37 weeks you could watch 2.5 seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race if you watch one episode each week
• #14 If you binge watch you could watch every existing episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race more than 8 times, all in the amount of time that automated SalesData reporting has saved subscribers. That’s a fairly significant amount of time.
• #16 Our retailer panel has grown over the last year, encompassing sales from 167 retailers (switch)
• #17 Over 1500 store locations. From all of these locations, we’ve received reporting in the last year on (switch)
• #18 806,420 ISBNs with sales or inventory reported in 2019
• #19 Over 75% of these ISBNs have sales reported. 2018: 867,056 ISBNs reported (679,849 with sales - 78%)
• #20 Over the past year we’ve added support for three new POS providers, making it easier for retailers using Square Vigie 3000 / Vilivre Lightspeed to report sales to SalesData If a store is not using one of these POS types, never fear! • #21 Aside from the time-saving scheduled reports and improved integrations with retailers, we wanted to highlight what else is new in SalesData for 2019
• #22 Our Snapshot reporting period selection now includes Last Year to Date, improving your comparative options. You’ll now be able to see the Selected Week, the Previous Week, Current YTD, LYTD, the entire last year, and the entire year before that, in all Snapshot-eligible reports - the Multiple ISBN, Market Comp, and Market Share reports.
• #23 Alongside adding LYTD to the snapshot view, we’ve also added new Over-Time Comparison using YTD, so you can compare YTD over YTD going back 10 years. This is especially useful in the Market Comp and Market Share reporting when analysing trends, especially in the run up to the busy holiday season.
• #24 Other notable 2019 additions include: -Our previously-mentioned integrations qith Square and Lightspeed POS -The addition of a semicolon-delimited searchable criteria field for author/contributor names -Updated and more accurate stock turn calculations -The addition of a site alert bar, so you’re notified sooner when we have delays, maintenance, or other important information to share -An improved Research Portal bar, which allows direct downloading of our latest research and easy access to the Research Portal. There’s ONE other big thing we’ve been working on:
• #25 LibraryData: Our national Library Collection and Circulation reporting tool, which will be launching to all subscribers this spring. • #26 With LibraryData launched, we’re full steam ahead on new features for 2020. Based on feedback from our stakeholders, here are a few things you can look forward to:
• #27 Additional customization and improvements to saved and scheduled reports. While over 1000 reports go out weekly, we know there are some reports you don’t need quite that often. We plan to add monthly, quarterly, and biweekly delivery schedules so you can always get the report you need when you need it most.
• #28 We’re enhancing the amount of bibliographic data used in SalesData and looking at adding additional filtering to the reports, based on Age Range (of particular interests to publishers of books for young readers), Dewey Decimal Numbers, and additional contributor roles.
• #29 I mentioned the count of active ISBNs for the year earlier in this presentation, and we’re looking at ways to surface those figures in the SalesData UI. Wondering if growth in a category is being driven by a few outlier titles, or if there’s a wide breadth of available books in a subject? These figures can help you find out!
