Modern AI PCs featuring AMD Ryzen AI
processors help digital nomads boost efficiency
Engaging local AI to automate tasks such as triaging email and
generating social media content can save more than 15 hours per week
Digital nomads enjoy the freedom to work from virtually anywhere,
but this lifestyle comes with its own challenges. As a self-employed
entrepreneur, you’re often the only one keeping the business
running—answering client messages, editing the photos and videos
you share with your audience, and staying on top of invoices and
bookings, all while chasing adequate Wi-Fi. To keep up with that
pace, digital nomads need high-performing laptops that can keep
working as hard as they do. Choosing a modern laptop lets you
put AI to work streamlining tasks like editing your latest travel reel,
organizing content, or drafting captions, so you can spend less time
on busywork and more time actually exploring. When those AI tools
run locally rather than in the cloud, you get stronger protection for
sensitive client and financial data, the ability to keep working even
without a reliable internet connection, and possibly lower costs, too.
We conducted testing to explore the potential benefits digital
nomads can reap by upgrading to AI PCs powered by AMD Ryzen™
AI processors and using local AI technologies. We ran a set of
defined scenarios two ways:
• Using local AI technologies on a modern AI-capable PC
powered by an AMD Ryzen AI processor
• Using manual processes on an older laptop PC
We found that modern laptops with local AI features cut task
completion time by as much as 98.5 percent compared with
traditional, non-AI approaches. For example, researching client
documents manually took 4 hours, but AI tools cut this time to 6
minutes and 23 seconds.
By employing local AI tools on PCs with AMD Ryzen AI processors,
digital nomads can devote less time to routine tasks and shift this time
to more important activities such as problem-solving and collaboration.

A Principled Technologies report: Hands-on testing. Real-world results.
Rebecca: A digital nomad with a full plate
Rebecca is a location-independent entrepreneur who works remotely while traveling between cities
and countries throughout the year. Her work requires her to manage projects, communicate with clients
across multiple time zones, analyze information, and produce reports while maintaining a high level
of responsiveness.
Because she frequently works from airports, hotels, coworking spaces, and areas with inconsistent
internet connectivity, Rebecca is exploring the use of on-PC AI to help streamline her workflow. By
running AI directly on her laptop, she hopes to summarize documents, draft emails, organize notes,
retrieve information, and automate routine tasks without relying on cloud services. Local AI could
also help protect sensitive business information by keeping data on the device while providing fast,
responsive assistance. For digital nomads such as Rebecca, upgrading to a modern AI PC with an AMD
Ryzen AI processor and employing on-PC AI tools has the potential to improve productivity, reliability,
and security regardless of where work takes place.
The advantages of running AI on your laptop
Digital nomads looking to enhance productivity with AI often face a choice between cloud-
based services and on-device AI. For users such as Rebecca, running AI locally offers several
compelling benefits:
Enhanced privacy and security. Because data remains on the device, it does not need to be
transmitted to external servers. This reduces exposure risks, helps protect sensitive information.
Improved responsiveness and offline availability. Local AI eliminates dependence on remote data
centers, enabling faster response times and continued operation without an internet connection. This
is particularly valuable in remote locations, during network outages, or in highly secure environments.
Reduced long-term costs. While cloud-based AI services often rely on recurring subscription fees,
many local AI solutions can be used without ongoing usage charges. Over time, this can allow users to
spend less on subscription costs.

How Rebecca can benefit by upgrading to a new AMD Ryzen AI PC
Continuing to use an older laptop prevents users from leveraging the latest advances in technology,
such as on-device AI. Modern AI PCs powered by AMD Ryzen AI processors can help location-
independent users such as Rebecca knock out their to-do lists faster, accelerating communication and
project turnaround times.
To quantify this advantage, we executed six scenarios on an HP OmniBook X Flip 16 Next Gen AI
PC with an AMD Ryzen AI 9 465 processor and an HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC with an earlier AMD
Ryzen processor:
• Generating tasks from emails
• Researching client documents
• Summarizing a meeting transcript
• Generating a social media post
• Making travel plans
• Productivity while running an LLM
Current system

We completed each scenario using a manual approach on the older system and using AI tools on the
newer system. AMD provided initial tasks and workflows. We reviewed them and—in some cases—
adjusted them to reflect real-world usage. We also measured productivity performance of the two
devices using a benchmark that simulates everyday office work while multitasking with an LLM. For
complete details on the test systems and our procedure, see the science behind the report.

Generating tasks from emails
Rebecca’s day typically begins by tackling her email inbox. She flags messages that require action, makes
note of important deadlines, and considers dependencies. The triaging process involves delegating
tasks, generating action items, and more, all while being mindful of timelines. When Rebecca follows a
manual approach, she reads email in Gmail, identifies tasks, creates tasks by hand, and schedules them
in her Google Tasks.
Alternatively, she could use AnythingLLM, an AI-powered productivity tool that manages work, email,
and calendars on a modern AI PC. Our testing showed that by doing so, she could reduce the time to
complete this task from 33 minutes to less than 2 minutes, a savings of 96.4 percent (see Figure 1).

Researching client documents
Rebecca regularly works with client proposals, research materials, contracts, and project documentation.
Sifting through these documents is part of her daily workflow, and she is used to manually opening and
reviewing multiple files to locate specific information, compare details, and compile summaries.
Instead, Rebecca could use AnythingLLM on the modern AI PC to query her document collection using
natural language. The system would quickly identify relevant content across multiple sources, extract key
information, and generate consolidated summaries or reports. This allows Rebecca to spend less time on
repetitive document review tasks and more time focusing on client deliverables, project planning, and
decision-making.
Using AnythingLLM would allow Rebecca to carry out this task in less than 7 minutes, a savings of 97.3
percent over the 4 hours the manual process would require (see Figure 2).

Summarizing a meeting transcript
Once Rebecca has sorted her inbox, she grabs a cup of coffee and settles in for her first meeting of the
day. She takes notes and records a transcript she turns into a summary to share with all stakeholders.
When Rebecca does this task manually, she reads the meeting transcript, identifies key sections, and
drafts the minutes in Microsoft Word. In our testing, this took just over 1 hour.
For the AI workflow, Rebecca would upload the conversation record into the chat interface of the LM
Studio tool, where the local LLM generates structured summaries highlighting key discussion points,
action items, and decisions. In our testing, this took less than 1 minute, a savings of 98.5 percent
(see Figure 3).
This would let her quickly document outcomes, reduce time spent on manual note-taking, and maintain
productivity while benefiting from the privacy and offline capabilities of a locally hosted AI solution.

Generating a social media post
For Rebecca, creating social media advertising content is a routine part of maintaining her professional
presence and attracting new clients. She typically does this using traditional methods, which involve
creating graphics, writing copy, and formatting content from scratch. In our testing, following this type of
manual approach took 2 hours.
As an alternative, she could use Cyberlink Promeo on a modern AI PC with an AMD Ryzen AI processor
to quickly generate platform-specific advertisements, marketing copy, and visual assets without
dedicating significant time to content creation or graphic design. This approach took us less than 3
minutes, a savings of 97.9 percent (see Figure 4).

Making travel plans
Because Rebecca frequently travels between cities and countries while managing client projects
remotely, researching destinations, accommodations, transportation options, and local business
information is a recurring part of her work routine. In our tests, carrying out a travel-planning workflow
took just over half an hour.
By connecting on-device AI models to n8n, Rebecca can automate much of this research through simple
workflows that gather, organize, and summarize information from multiple online sources. This workflow
required only 3 minutes, a savings of 90.7 percent (see Figure 5).
By using AI, Rebecca can make informed decisions more efficiently while reducing the time spent
switching between websites and applications. The combination of workflow automation and local AI
processing helps streamline administrative tasks, enabling her to focus more of her workday on client
deliverables, project management, and productive remote work.

Time savings across Rebecca’s typical workflow
If we combine the five scenarios we’ve presented, we see that the time savings Rebecca could achieve
with AI really add up (see Figure 6).
By using AI technologies on the modern AMD Ryzen AI processor-powered PC, the time to complete the
entire workflow a single time would decrease the total workflow time from more than 8 hours to less
than 15 minutes—a 97.1 percent reduction.
Saving this time would allow Rebecca to devote much more time to valuable activities and help her finish
projects much faster.
Because these AI tasks are PC-based, Rebecca does not necessarily need an internet connection. Even if
her travels take her to locations without reliable connectivity, she can still use the time to cross tasks off
her to-do list.

How the savings can accumulate over the course of a workweek
To get a sense of how much time using AI technologies on the new AI PC could save Rebecca during a
typical week, we estimated the frequency with which she would perform them. For this extrapolation, we
define a month as four weeks. We assumed the following frequencies:
• Generating tasks from emails 5x weekly
• Researching client documents 1x weekly
• Summarizing a meeting transcript 5x weekly
• Generating a social media post 2x weekly
• Making travel plans 0.5x weekly
Figure 7 presents the results of our estimations.
Our estimates indicate that using the AI capabilities available on a modern system powered by an
AMD Ryzen AI processor could reduce the time Rebecca spends on routine administrative and
organizational tasks by approximately 15 hours and 49 minutes per work week—equivalent to
nearly two full workdays. This represents a potential time reduction of 97.6 percent.
By leveraging an AI PC powered by an AMD Ryzen AI processor, Rebecca could automate many of the
repetitive activities that consume a significant portion of her schedule. The resulting time savings would
allow her to focus more on strategic planning, problem-solving, and team coordination, enabling her to
work more effectively and helping projects progress more efficiently.

What about productivity on traditional office applications?
In addition to using AI tools to boost efficiency, digital nomads such as Rebecca will continue to run
traditional apps on their laptops.
To evaluate the productivity capabilities of our two test systems, we ran the Procyon®
Office Productivity
benchmark while simultaneously executing a local LLM workload. On the PC powered by a modern AMD
Ryzen AI processor, the model leveraged the dedicated neural processing unit (NPU). In contrast, the
older laptop, which lacked an NPU, ran the model on its GPU. As Table 1 shows, the AI PC achieved a
25.1 percent higher score than the older system. It also showed advantages in terms of battery life,
using roughly one-quarter as many watt-hours as the older system and a smaller percentage of the
device’s battery life.
These results indicate that the AMD Ryzen AI processor-based PC can deliver a faster, smoother
experience for everyday productivity tasks, particularly when AI applications are running concurrently.
The higher benchmark score suggests a more responsive workflow with fewer performance interruptions
during real-world use. By offloading AI processing to a dedicated NPU rather than relying solely on the
CPU or GPU, the newer system can better balance AI workloads and traditional productivity tasks.

Conclusion: Modern AI PCs powered by AMD Ryzen
AI processors improve productivity for digital nomads
Across five real-world scenarios—generating tasks from emails, researching
client documents, summarizing a meeting transcript, generating a social media
post, and making travel plans—the HP OmniBook X Flip 16 with an AMD Ryzen
AI 9 465 processor delivered dramatic time savings versus manual workflows on
an older AMD processor-based laptop. In our tests, on-PC AI reduced individual
task times by up to 98.5 percent, and the combined workflow time fell from
more than 8 hours to under 15 minutes, representing a 97.1 percent reduction.
Based on our estimations of task frequency, the time to perform these tasks
over a typical workweek could drop from 16 hours—two workdays—to
only 23 minutes.
For location-independent professionals who balance communication, document
