Miki Sawada by Mari Takada

Miki Sawada founded "Elizabeth Thunder's Home" in Japan after World War II to care for racially mixed children who had been abandoned. She housed and educated over 2,000 children there. Later, she purchased land to establish a farm and provide for the children's independence. The orphanage she established is still in operation today, caring for 100 children ages 2 to 18. Sawada converted to Christianity and remained healthy so she could continue visiting children who had been adopted all around the world. She saved more than 2,000 children and brought them into her family with the support of her husband and extended family.
