What is LSMW

• It is a interactive tool for data transfer.
• Data transfer between legacy system (non-SAP) to SAP once or periodically.
• Key benefits:
– Dramatically reduces the cost and time of migrating data.
– Ensure optimum quality and consistency through import checks.

• Advantages of LSMW:
– Wide ranges of data conversion techniques (fixed values, translation, ABAP coding etc).
– Conversion program generated from conversion rules.
– Consistency in migration.
– Less programming required.
– Platform independent.
– Check data before updating in database.


General Steps in LSMW

• Read the legacy data from one or several files (e.g. spreadsheet tables, sequential files)
• Convert the data from source format to target format.
• Import the data using standard interfaces ( Batch input, BAPI, IDoc).

Step in LSMW

• Transaction code : LSMW
• 14 steps:
– Maintain object attributes.
– Maintain source structures.
– Maintain source fields.
– Maintain source relations.
– Maintain field mapping and conversion rules.
– Maintain fixed values, translations, user-defined routines.
– Specify files.
– Assign files.
– Read/import data.
– Display read/import data.
– Convert data.
– Display converted data.
– Create batch input session
– Run Batch input session.

Create New Project


Create Subproject , Object and click here


Go To Menu path Goto->Recordings


Click on ‘Recordings’ and create


Specify the Name of Recording
and click here


Specify the Transaction


Enter relevant Data


Click here for selecting at least one view


Fill all mandatory fields and
Save the recording


Click on ‘Default All’,
Save it and Go Back.


Click here to Go Back


Click here to Execute


Execute the First step


Save and Go Back

Click here for Change mode

Select ‘Batch Input Recording’ and
Enter the Recording Name


Click on ‘Object Overview’


Click on ‘Table’


Select the fields by pressing Ctrl+Y


Copy the fields which are selected


Paste them into an Excel Sheet


Select column ‘A’ and
Goto Menupath Data->Text to Columns


Click here to proceed


Select ‘Text’ Option

Select all Columns

Click on ‘Finish’


Copy these Columns


Paste them in another Sheet and
Change all data types as ‘C’

Execute for Second Step

Click here for Change Mode

Click on ‘Source Structures’


Specify the Structure and click here


Save and Go Back

Go to Menu Path,
Source Fields->Table Maintenance


Save and Go Back

Copy the Columns from
Excel sheet and Paste them here and
Press ‘Enter’.
