CALM DOWN AND
BREATHE
Instructions:
Sit comfortably and keep your back straight. Close
your eyes if you feel comfortable doing so. Inhale slowly
through your nose for 4 seconds, hold your breath for 4
seconds, then exhale gently through your mouth for 6
seconds. We will repeat this breathing cycle 10 times, for
about 1 minute, to help you relax, clear your mind, and
prepare for today's lesson

WHAT IS MINDFULNESS?
Mindfulness is the practice of paying full
attention to the present moment with openness,
awareness, and without judgment. It involves
focusing on your thoughts, feelings, breathing, and
surroundings to help you stay calm, focused, and
emotionally balanced.
WHAT ARE THE MINDFULNESS
SKILLS?
Mindfulness skills are the specific behaviors or
techniques that people practice to become more
mindful. When used together, these skills help
individuals stay focused on the present moment,
manage their emotions, and respond thoughtfully
rather than reacting impulsively.
WHAT IS MINDFULNESS
PRACTICE?
• Mindfulness and mindfulness skills can be
practiced anytime, anywhere, while doing
anything.
• Meditation is practicing mindfulness and
mindfulness skills while sitting, standing, or lying
quietly for a predetermined period of time.

PRACTICE?
• Mindfulness movement also has many forms.
Examples include yoga, martial arts (such as
Qigong, tai chi, aikido, and karate). Hiking,
horseback riding, and walking can also be ways to
practice mindfulness.
