We are pleased to introduce our Library Automation Software called
Softgranth which has incorporated the experience of library experts at IIT
Kanpur gained over the period of more than two decades. Further experience
of many other library experts and knowledge collected through internet has
made this software most feature rich. Use of state-of-the-art cutting edge
technology also made it superior to the existing software. It is a completely
web based application which works both on internet and intranet. This
software has been developed at SIIC, IIT Kanpur under the supervision of
computer experts.
Library staff: -
One point data entry will make data available for various operations like
cataloguing, catalogue card generation on different access point, I-card generation
etc.
 Bar coded books and I-cards will make book issue/Return/Re-issue error free and
very efficient.
 Bar code based stocking taking is accurate, efficient and takes care of written off
books and lost books also.
 Smart book verification at the gate will minimize theft of library books.
 In built 3 tier circulation policy, Fine management system and No Dues issue is
very user friendly and efficient.
 Lib
rarian can give different label of permission to different staff epending on their
role. On entering the password staff will be able to see only that part of the menu
for which the permission has been granted.
 Audit trail helps the librarian to know the actions performed by the staff with
date, time, IP etc.
 Facil
ity for back log issue/return/Re-issue will facilitate the operations in case of
power failure etc.

 Dynamic report generation will help in terms of generating report of their cho -ice
like with/ without book value etc. They can change the number of fields as well
the order in which they should appear on the report.

library to apportion budget accordingly.

ecial issue, De-cataloging, Item status change, accession number, call num --ber
editing etc are various features which will help the librarian manage the library
smoothly.

 One can recommend a book and can see the stage of procurement on the
network without inquiring from library staff.
 Using Selected dissemination of information one can define the profile and they
will automatically be informed about the arrival of the book through e-mail.
 Using Real Time Web OPAC one can search book using different parameters
and filters. Thus they can avoid wasting time with old catalogue cards.
 One can read digital books at ones convenience ( 24X7)
 Through OPAC using ones password one can know the books issued in its
name. One can further reserve the book online also.

The Objective of this Software is to completely automate the day to day functions (e.g.
Acquisitioning, Cataloguing, Serial Control, Circulation, Inter library loan, Stock-taking
etc.). Using the library network/Internet, members can simultaneously browse the

catalogue from any terminal through OPAC. Cumbersome job of printing the cards and
subsequent filing also gets eliminated.

4. Circulation Module: - This module helps in functioning of the staff at the library
counter like issue, return, re-issue, item management, inter library loan, query etc. It
maintains up-to-date membership records as well as the latest status of the collect -ion
meant for circulation. It facilitates printing of bar-coded ID cards, along with an optional
facility to attach member's photograph. It performs all the functions related to circulation,
pro -viding suitable checks at every stage. While doing issue / return, it takes care of the

Further experience of many other library experts and knowledge collected through internet has made this software most feature rich. Use of state-of-the-art cutting edge technology also made it superior to the existing software. It is a completely web based application which works both on internet and intranet. This software has been developed at SIIC, IIT Kanpur under the supervision of computer experts. Library staff: - One point data entry will make data available for various operations like cataloguing, catalogue card generation on different access point, I-card generation etc.  Bar coded books and I-cards will make book issue/Return/Re-issue error free and very efficient.  Bar code based stocking taking is accurate, efficient and takes care of written off books and lost books also.  Smart book verification at the gate will minimize theft of library books.  In built 3 tier circulation policy, Fine management system and No Dues issue is very user friendly and efficient.  Lib rarian can give different label of permission to different staff epending on their role.
