Our Father Founder was formed by his Oratorian masters,
Cardinal Pierre de Bérulle and his successor Cardinal
Pierre de Bérulle and his successor, Father Charles de
Condren, who in turn, in a famous letter, emphasized the
unique role of the feast of Pentecost in the experience of
faith: "If we consider the greatness of God, the feast of the
God, the feast of the Most Holy Trinity is the first; if we
consider the most solemnized feast of the most
solemnized feast in the world, Easter is the greatest; but if
we consider the most useful, Pentecost occupies the first
place". It is not usual to speak of Pentecost in terms of
usefulness in this way; it might even be shocking. But the
aim of Condren is to help us understand God's work, and
God's agent, the finger of God as Jesus says (cf. Lk. 11:20), is
the Holy Spirit, who acts in the world and "accomplishes
all sanctification" (Eucharistic Prayer IV).
St. John Eudes inherited this vision of the Holy Spirit at
work; he contemplated the Holy Spirit in Trinitarian
communion, in creation, in the Incarnation in the Virgin
Mary, in the life of Christ, in the Church, in the hearts of
the faithful, in the experience of the saints.

The Holy Spirit is omnipresent in the writings of St. John Eudes,
because he was a master of the spiritual life and knew how to
handle both theological concepts and the pedagogy of interior
experience. This is the strength of his thought, at once solidly
grounded in the Catholic faith and pastorally oriented to the
growth of the faithful and their communities.
In the spiritual doctrine of St. John Eudes, two aspects stand
out, two mystical visions of the Holy Spirit that are uncommon
and of great value.
The first is the adoration of the Holy Spirit, the constant gaze of
our Founder on the Trinitarian mystery, contemplating the
unity in love, the outpouring of the Spirit, source of life for the
world, the torrent of graces that God pours out upon us. We
can allow ourselves to be captivated by this vision and ask for
the grace to contemplate the invisible.
The second profound vision to which St. John Eudes invites us
is the contemplation of the divine Heart of Jesus. Through the
human heart of Jesus and his human soul, he perceives the
very mystery of divine love, "his uncreated love, which is none
other than God himself.

It is the love which the Son has had from all eternity in the
adorable bosom of his Father, and which, together with
the love of his Father, is the principle of the Holy Spirit".
The burning Heart of Jesus is the Holy Spirit, and the
flames that burst forth from that Heart are like the
tongues of fire that descended upon the Apostles on the
day of Pentecost. And so it is with us: the Holy Spirit is
within us, in the depths of our soul, in our heart, which
only the Holy Spirit can know and probe, where it
pronounces the Name of Jesus and fills us with divine
light.
May the novena in preparation for the feast of Pentecost
renew our thirst to live every moment in the Holy Spirit, to
let him enter into all the interior spaces of our heart, so
that it may live and reign there with the Father and the
Son, for our greater happiness and the greater glory of
God.

BEGINNING
Let us invoke the presence of the Holy
Trinity in this moment of prayer:
In the name of the Father, the Son, and the
Holy Spirit. Amen.
Ask for the presence of the Holy Spirit,
either by inviting a moment of silence, of
praise or through the following prayer to
the Holy Spirit, composed by St. John
Eudes:
Lord Jesus, may the power of the Holy Spirit
penetrate us totally, so that we may not
work according to our own will, but by his
constant and powerful action. Amen.
(O.C. III, 273)
OPENING PRAYER
FOR EVERY DAY
Let's prepare for Pentecost
6
Come, Divine Spirit send
your light from heaven.
Loving Father of the poor;
gift, in your splendid gifts;
light that penetrates
souls; source of the
greatest consolation.
Come, sweet guest of the
soul, rest from our effort,
respite from hard work,
breeze in the hours of
fire, joy that wipes away
tears and comforts in
mourning.
Enter into the depths of
the soul, divine light, and
enrich us.
OPENING PRAYER
FOR EVERY DAY
Let's prepare for Pentecost
7
See the emptiness of
man, if you are lacking
within him; see the
power of sin, when you
do not send your breath.
Water the drought-
stricken earth, heal the
sick heart, wash away the
stains, infuse warmth into
the ice, tame the
untamed spirit,
guide the one who bends
the path.
Give your seven gifts,
according to the faith of
your servants; by your
goodness and grace, give
to effort its merit; save
him who seeks to be
saved and give us your
everlasting joy.
Amen.

MEDITATION
The Holy Spirit had his part in making us Christians. For
he formed our Redeemer and our Head in the sacred
womb of the holy Virgin ; he animated and led him in his
thoughts, words, actions and sufferings and in the
sacrifice of himself on the cross: There, Christ offered
himself, through the Holy Spirit, to God (Heb 9:14). And
after our Lord ascended into heaven, the Holy Spirit came
into this world to form and establish the body of Jesus
Christ, which is his Church, and to apply to it the fruits of
the life, blood, passion and death of Jesus Christ.
Moreover, the Holy Spirit comes to us at our baptism, to
form Jesus Christ in us and to incorporate us into him to
cause us to be born and live for him, to apply to us the
fruits of his blood and death, and to animate, inspire,
move and lead us in our thoughts, words, actions and
sufferings, so that we may have them in a Christian way
and for God alone. To such an extent that we cannot
pronounce the holy name of Jesus as we should, nor have
a good thought, except thanks to the Holy Spirit.
REFLECTION
How does the Holy Spirit move me to do God’s will?

RENOUNCE TO THE SPIRIT OF
THE WORLD TO SURRENDER TO
THE HOLY SPIRIT
Let's prepare for Pentecost

MEDITATION
As a Christian, besides hating every kind of sin, you must detach
yourself totally from the world and the things of the world. I call the
world the corrupt and disordered life that is led in it, the
condemnable spirit that reigns in it, the perverse sentiments and
inclinations that inspire it, the supreme laws that govern it.
I call the things of the world all that the world esteems, loves and
covets; the honors and praises of men, vain pleasures, temporary
riches and comforts, friendships and affections founded on flesh
and blood, on self-love and self-interest.
If you wish to be a true Christian, a disciple of Jesus Christ and to
continue and express with your life his holy and detached life, it is
indispensable that you absolutely and universally detach
(renounce) yourself from the world and the things of the world.
Remember often that the world has always been and will always
be contrary to Jesus, that it has always persecuted and crucified
him and will do so until the end of time. The sentiments and
inclinations, the laws and principles and spirit of the world are so
opposed to those of Jesus Christ that they cannot exist together.
For while those of Jesus tend only to the glory of his Father and to
our sanctification, those of the world tend only to sin and
damnation.
REFLECTION
What situations or things prevent me from surrendering to the
action of the Spirit?
Go to page 17 for the closing prayers.
Go to page 6 for the opening prayer
MEDITATION
The first Heart in the Holy Trinity is the Son of God who is the
Heart of his Father. The second is the Holy Spirit who is the
Heart of the Father and the Son. The third is divine Love, one
of the adorable attributes of the divine essence, which is the
Heart of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three
Hearts are a single and simple Heart.
With Him, the three divine persons love each other with love
as infinite as they deserve, and with him they love us with
incomparable charity.
The first is his divine Heart, that is, his uncreated love, which is
none other than God himself. It is the love he has for the
divine person of the eternal Word. The second is his spiritual
heart, that is, the upper part of his holy soul. It comprises his
memory, his understanding and his will, most especially
divine by the hypostatic union. The third is his divine heart,
which is the Holy Spirit. From him his adorable humanity has
always been animated and enlivened more than from his own
heart.
REFLECTION
If as a Christian you are invited to hate sin, what
renunciations must you make today to abandon yourself
to the Holy Spirit?

HEART OF THE TRINITY

FOURTH DAY
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE
HEART OF JESUS
Let's prepare for Pentecost
11
MEDITATION
The only objective of the glances, love and complacencies of
the eternal Father is his Son Jesus. For as the Father willed, as
his apostle says, that his Son should be all things in all things
(Eph 1:23; Col 3:11), and that all things should have consistency
in him and through him (Col 3:17), so he looks upon and loves
all things in him. Therefore he has made everything for him
(Heb 2:10).
And since he has placed in him all the treasures of his
knowledge and wisdom (Col 2:3), of his goodness, of his
beauty, of his glory, of his happiness and of all the other
perfections, the Father himself announces to us on various
occasions that he has placed all his complacency and delights
in this only and most beloved Son (Mt 3:17; Lk 3:35).
This does not exclude, of course, the Holy Spirit, who is the
Spirit of Jesus and one with him. Therefore, consider that the
Holy Spirit also lives and reigns in an ineffable way in the
Heart of Jesus: in him he keeps the infinite treasures of the
knowledge and wisdom of God; and he fills him to the highest
degree with all his gifts.
REFLECTION
The heart of the Father and the Son is the Holy Spirit:
What daily actions can you take advantage of to show a
greater love for God?
Go to page 17 for the closing prayers
Go to page 6 for the opening prayer
MEDITATION
Offer to Jesus all your actions and all the love, praise and
adoration that you will give Him, in union with all the love,
glory and praise that were given by His eternal Father, by
Himself, by His Holy Spirit, by His most worthy Mother, by His
angels and saints. Ask the Father and the Holy Spirit to glorify
Jesus in your name and to give Him a hundredfold all the
honor and all the glory that you should have given Him.
My God, immense love, you fill heaven and earth and are in all
things. Everywhere you are all kindness and all love.
May I too love you everywhere and love all things in you and
for you. I unite myself and give myself to you, by virtue of your
divine immensity, I extend my spirit and my will to all the
places of the world and there with the power and the
unlimited extension of your Spirit and your love, I love, glorify
and adore you. Likewise, I associate myself with the love that
your Father and your Holy Spirit have for you in every place
and in all things.
REFLECTION:
With what attitudes can I allow the heart of Jesus to be
the Heart of my heart and the Spirit of my spirit?

SIXTH DAY
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE
HEART OF MARY
Let's prepare for Pentecost
13
MEDITATION
The Magnificat (Lk 1:46-55) is the canticle of the Heart of the
holy virgin for many reasons: First, because it was born in this
Heart and came forth from it before appearing on her lips.
Second, because her tongue pronounced it moved by her
bodily Heart as well as by her spiritual and divine Heart.
Because her corporal Heart, saturated with a sensitive and
extraordinary joy, moved Mary's lips to sing this Magnificat with
a unique fervor and jubilation. Her spiritual Heart, rapt and
transported in God, made that ecstatic word burst forth from
her lips: My spirit rejoices in God my Savior (Lk 1:47).
Her divine Heart, that is, the divine Child who was in her blessed
womb and who dwelt in her Heart as the soul of her soul, the
spirit of her spirit and the Heart of her Heart, is the principal
author of this canticle. It was it who inspired her with these
thoughts and truths and uttered by her mouth her words.
Thirdly, the Magnificat is the canticle of the Heart of the Mother
of love, that is, of the Holy Spirit who is the Spirit and Heart of
the Father and of the Son and, at the same time, the Heart and
the Spirit of this Virgin Mother. Mary is so full and possessed by
him that her presence and her voice communicate this same
Spirit to Zechariah, Elizabeth and the child she carries in her
womb.
REFLECTION
How does Mary help me to abandon myself to the action of
the Spirit?
Go to page 17 for the closing prayers
Go to page 6 for the opening prayer
MEDITATION
To free us from the deepest abyss of misery and curse
that it is possible to imagine, into which we were
unfortunately precipitated, and to raise us to the highest
degree of happiness and greatness that can be thought
of, God willed that his Son become man like us... and that
he then ascended to heaven and sent us the Holy Spirit to
be always with his Church and to govern and direct it in
everything.
For this, adore the Holy Trinity for all that it is in the
Church. Adore the incomprehensible love and the high
and eternal designs It has upon it.
Adore and bless it for all that it unceasingly accomplishes
in it. Surrender yourself to the love and zeal that the
Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit have for the Church.
To awaken in you the love and service to the Church,
think of it as the beloved daughter of the eternal Father,
who loves it to the point of giving its only Son as its
spouse and its Holy Spirit as its spirit and its heart.
REFLECTION
What new ways does the action of the Holy Spirit open
up in my life to become more involved in my Church
community?
SEVENTH DAY
THE HOLY SPIRIT LEADS
AND GOVERNS THE CHURCH
Let's prepare for Pentecost

EIGHTH DAY
THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE
LIFE OF THE BELIEVER
Let's prepare for Pentecost
15
MEDITATION
A Christian is a temple of the Holy Spirit: Do you not know
that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit? says St. Paul
(1 Cor 6:19), and the proof that you are children of God is
that God has sent the Spirit of his Son into your hearts
(Gal 4:6).
The Holy Spirit has been given to us as the spirit of our
spirit, the heart of our heart, the soul of our soul, and to be
always with us and in us as in his temple.
Let us carefully consider these truths and engrave them
in our hearts to awaken in us praise and love for God
because he has made us Christians. Let us repudiate our
ingratitude and sins and let us henceforth lead a life
worthy of the perfection of our Father, the holiness of our
Head and the purity of the Spirit whose temple we are.
REFLECTION
As a believer, do I fully trust in the transforming action
of the Holy Spirit?
Go to page 17 for the closing prayers
Go to page 6 for the opening prayer
MEDITATION
It is very important to know that not only religious persons, but all
Christians, of whatever state and condition, are obliged, as
members of Jesus Christ, to live the holy life of their Head, and to
carry out all their actions, great and small, in a Christian manner.
What does "in a Christian manner" mean? It means to do them in
Jesus Christ and through Jesus Christ, in his Spirit, with his holy
and divine provisions.
I cannot be content to tell you this, and you will never tire of
hearing it and meditating on it, so important is this truth.
Consider Jesus Christ, as our leader and head, whose members we
are, who passed through all the states and conditions of our mortal
life, performed almost all our actions and accomplished all his
works, both internal and external, for himself and for us at the
same time. In this way, the perfection and holiness of the Christian
consist in giving ourselves and in uniting ourselves unceasingly to
him as his members, and in continuing to do what he did and as
he did it, with the same provisions and intentions of his, and in
conforming our whole conduct to that of Jesus, in imitating
carefully all his examples, without ever departing from our model
and master.
REFLECTION
Do I live up to my Christian dignity?

Let's prepare for Pentecost with texts of St John Eudes

  • 3. Our Father Founder was formed by his Oratorian masters, Cardinal Pierre de Bérulle and his successor Cardinal Pierre de Bérulle and his successor, Father Charles de Condren, who in turn, in a famous letter, emphasized the unique role of the feast of Pentecost in the experience of faith: "If we consider the greatness of God, the feast of the God, the feast of the Most Holy Trinity is the first; if we consider the most solemnized feast of the most solemnized feast in the world, Easter is the greatest; but if we consider the most useful, Pentecost occupies the first place". It is not usual to speak of Pentecost in terms of usefulness in this way; it might even be shocking. But the aim of Condren is to help us understand God's work, and God's agent, the finger of God as Jesus says (cf. Lk. 11:20), is the Holy Spirit, who acts in the world and "accomplishes all sanctification" (Eucharistic Prayer IV). St. John Eudes inherited this vision of the Holy Spirit at work; he contemplated the Holy Spirit in Trinitarian communion, in creation, in the Incarnation in the Virgin Mary, in the life of Christ, in the Church, in the hearts of the faithful, in the experience of the saints. LET'S PREPARE PENTECOST Introduction 3 for
  • 4. The Holy Spirit is omnipresent in the writings of St. John Eudes, because he was a master of the spiritual life and knew how to handle both theological concepts and the pedagogy of interior experience. This is the strength of his thought, at once solidly grounded in the Catholic faith and pastorally oriented to the growth of the faithful and their communities. In the spiritual doctrine of St. John Eudes, two aspects stand out, two mystical visions of the Holy Spirit that are uncommon and of great value. The first is the adoration of the Holy Spirit, the constant gaze of our Founder on the Trinitarian mystery, contemplating the unity in love, the outpouring of the Spirit, source of life for the world, the torrent of graces that God pours out upon us. We can allow ourselves to be captivated by this vision and ask for the grace to contemplate the invisible. The second profound vision to which St. John Eudes invites us is the contemplation of the divine Heart of Jesus. Through the human heart of Jesus and his human soul, he perceives the very mystery of divine love, "his uncreated love, which is none other than God himself. LET'S PREPARE PENTECOST Introduction 4 for
  • 5. It is the love which the Son has had from all eternity in the adorable bosom of his Father, and which, together with the love of his Father, is the principle of the Holy Spirit". The burning Heart of Jesus is the Holy Spirit, and the flames that burst forth from that Heart are like the tongues of fire that descended upon the Apostles on the day of Pentecost. And so it is with us: the Holy Spirit is within us, in the depths of our soul, in our heart, which only the Holy Spirit can know and probe, where it pronounces the Name of Jesus and fills us with divine light. May the novena in preparation for the feast of Pentecost renew our thirst to live every moment in the Holy Spirit, to let him enter into all the interior spaces of our heart, so that it may live and reign there with the Father and the Son, for our greater happiness and the greater glory of God. LET'S PREPARE PENTECOST Introduction 5 P. Jean-Michel Amouriaux, cjm Superior General for
  • 6. BEGINNING Let us invoke the presence of the Holy Trinity in this moment of prayer: In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Ask for the presence of the Holy Spirit, either by inviting a moment of silence, of praise or through the following prayer to the Holy Spirit, composed by St. John Eudes: Lord Jesus, may the power of the Holy Spirit penetrate us totally, so that we may not work according to our own will, but by his constant and powerful action. Amen. (O.C. III, 273) OPENING PRAYER FOR EVERY DAY Let's prepare for Pentecost 6
  • 7. Come, Divine Spirit send your light from heaven. Loving Father of the poor; gift, in your splendid gifts; light that penetrates souls; source of the greatest consolation. Come, sweet guest of the soul, rest from our effort, respite from hard work, breeze in the hours of fire, joy that wipes away tears and comforts in mourning. Enter into the depths of the soul, divine light, and enrich us. OPENING PRAYER FOR EVERY DAY Let's prepare for Pentecost 7 See the emptiness of man, if you are lacking within him; see the power of sin, when you do not send your breath. Water the drought- stricken earth, heal the sick heart, wash away the stains, infuse warmth into the ice, tame the untamed spirit, guide the one who bends the path. Give your seven gifts, according to the faith of your servants; by your goodness and grace, give to effort its merit; save him who seeks to be saved and give us your everlasting joy. Amen. • 8. MEDITATION The Holy Spirit had his part in making us Christians. For he formed our Redeemer and our Head in the sacred womb of the holy Virgin ; he animated and led him in his thoughts, words, actions and sufferings and in the sacrifice of himself on the cross: There, Christ offered himself, through the Holy Spirit, to God (Heb 9:14). And after our Lord ascended into heaven, the Holy Spirit came into this world to form and establish the body of Jesus Christ, which is his Church, and to apply to it the fruits of the life, blood, passion and death of Jesus Christ. Moreover, the Holy Spirit comes to us at our baptism, to form Jesus Christ in us and to incorporate us into him to cause us to be born and live for him, to apply to us the fruits of his blood and death, and to animate, inspire, move and lead us in our thoughts, words, actions and sufferings, so that we may have them in a Christian way and for God alone. To such an extent that we cannot pronounce the holy name of Jesus as we should, nor have a good thought, except thanks to the Holy Spirit. REFLECTION How does the Holy Spirit move me to do God’s will? FIRST DAY JESUS SENDS THE SPIRIT Let's prepare for Pentecost 8 Go to pay 17 for the final prayers.
  • 9. SECOND DAY RENOUNCE TO THE SPIRIT OF THE WORLD TO SURRENDER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT Let's prepare for Pentecost 9 MEDITATION As a Christian, besides hating every kind of sin, you must detach yourself totally from the world and the things of the world. I call the world the corrupt and disordered life that is led in it, the condemnable spirit that reigns in it, the perverse sentiments and inclinations that inspire it, the supreme laws that govern it. I call the things of the world all that the world esteems, loves and covets; the honors and praises of men, vain pleasures, temporary riches and comforts, friendships and affections founded on flesh and blood, on self-love and self-interest. If you wish to be a true Christian, a disciple of Jesus Christ and to continue and express with your life his holy and detached life, it is indispensable that you absolutely and universally detach (renounce) yourself from the world and the things of the world. Remember often that the world has always been and will always be contrary to Jesus, that it has always persecuted and crucified him and will do so until the end of time. The sentiments and inclinations, the laws and principles and spirit of the world are so opposed to those of Jesus Christ that they cannot exist together. For while those of Jesus tend only to the glory of his Father and to our sanctification, those of the world tend only to sin and damnation. REFLECTION What situations or things prevent me from surrendering to the action of the Spirit? Go to page 17 for the closing prayers. Go to page 6 for the opening prayer
  • 10. MEDITATION The first Heart in the Holy Trinity is the Son of God who is the Heart of his Father. The second is the Holy Spirit who is the Heart of the Father and the Son. The third is divine Love, one of the adorable attributes of the divine essence, which is the Heart of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three Hearts are a single and simple Heart. With Him, the three divine persons love each other with love as infinite as they deserve, and with him they love us with incomparable charity. The first is his divine Heart, that is, his uncreated love, which is none other than God himself. It is the love he has for the divine person of the eternal Word. The second is his spiritual heart, that is, the upper part of his holy soul. It comprises his memory, his understanding and his will, most especially divine by the hypostatic union. The third is his divine heart, which is the Holy Spirit. From him his adorable humanity has always been animated and enlivened more than from his own heart. • 11. FOURTH DAY THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE HEART OF JESUS Let's prepare for Pentecost 11 MEDITATION The only objective of the glances, love and complacencies of the eternal Father is his Son Jesus. For as the Father willed, as his apostle says, that his Son should be all things in all things (Eph 1:23; Col 3:11), and that all things should have consistency in him and through him (Col 3:17), so he looks upon and loves all things in him. Therefore he has made everything for him (Heb 2:10). And since he has placed in him all the treasures of his knowledge and wisdom (Col 2:3), of his goodness, of his beauty, of his glory, of his happiness and of all the other perfections, the Father himself announces to us on various occasions that he has placed all his complacency and delights in this only and most beloved Son (Mt 3:17; Lk 3:35). This does not exclude, of course, the Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of Jesus and one with him. Therefore, consider that the Holy Spirit also lives and reigns in an ineffable way in the Heart of Jesus: in him he keeps the infinite treasures of the knowledge and wisdom of God; and he fills him to the highest degree with all his gifts. • 12. MEDITATION Offer to Jesus all your actions and all the love, praise and adoration that you will give Him, in union with all the love, glory and praise that were given by His eternal Father, by Himself, by His Holy Spirit, by His most worthy Mother, by His angels and saints. Ask the Father and the Holy Spirit to glorify Jesus in your name and to give Him a hundredfold all the honor and all the glory that you should have given Him. My God, immense love, you fill heaven and earth and are in all things. Everywhere you are all kindness and all love. May I too love you everywhere and love all things in you and for you. I unite myself and give myself to you, by virtue of your divine immensity, I extend my spirit and my will to all the places of the world and there with the power and the unlimited extension of your Spirit and your love, I love, glorify and adore you. Likewise, I associate myself with the love that your Father and your Holy Spirit have for you in every place and in all things. REFLECTION: With what attitudes can I allow the heart of Jesus to be the Heart of my heart and the Spirit of my spirit? • 13. SIXTH DAY THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE HEART OF MARY Let's prepare for Pentecost 13 MEDITATION The Magnificat (Lk 1:46-55) is the canticle of the Heart of the holy virgin for many reasons: First, because it was born in this Heart and came forth from it before appearing on her lips. Second, because her tongue pronounced it moved by her bodily Heart as well as by her spiritual and divine Heart. Because her corporal Heart, saturated with a sensitive and extraordinary joy, moved Mary's lips to sing this Magnificat with a unique fervor and jubilation. Her spiritual Heart, rapt and transported in God, made that ecstatic word burst forth from her lips: My spirit rejoices in God my Savior (Lk 1:47). Her divine Heart, that is, the divine Child who was in her blessed womb and who dwelt in her Heart as the soul of her soul, the spirit of her spirit and the Heart of her Heart, is the principal author of this canticle. It was it who inspired her with these thoughts and truths and uttered by her mouth her words. Thirdly, the Magnificat is the canticle of the Heart of the Mother of love, that is, of the Holy Spirit who is the Spirit and Heart of the Father and of the Son and, at the same time, the Heart and the Spirit of this Virgin Mother. Mary is so full and possessed by him that her presence and her voice communicate this same Spirit to Zechariah, Elizabeth and the child she carries in her womb. • 14. MEDITATION To free us from the deepest abyss of misery and curse that it is possible to imagine, into which we were unfortunately precipitated, and to raise us to the highest degree of happiness and greatness that can be thought of, God willed that his Son become man like us... and that he then ascended to heaven and sent us the Holy Spirit to be always with his Church and to govern and direct it in everything. For this, adore the Holy Trinity for all that it is in the Church. Adore the incomprehensible love and the high and eternal designs It has upon it. Adore and bless it for all that it unceasingly accomplishes in it. Surrender yourself to the love and zeal that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit have for the Church. To awaken in you the love and service to the Church, think of it as the beloved daughter of the eternal Father, who loves it to the point of giving its only Son as its spouse and its Holy Spirit as its spirit and its heart. • 15. EIGHTH DAY THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE LIFE OF THE BELIEVER Let's prepare for Pentecost 15 MEDITATION A Christian is a temple of the Holy Spirit: Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit? says St. Paul (1 Cor 6:19), and the proof that you are children of God is that God has sent the Spirit of his Son into your hearts (Gal 4:6). The Holy Spirit has been given to us as the spirit of our spirit, the heart of our heart, the soul of our soul, and to be always with us and in us as in his temple. Let us carefully consider these truths and engrave them in our hearts to awaken in us praise and love for God because he has made us Christians. Let us repudiate our ingratitude and sins and let us henceforth lead a life worthy of the perfection of our Father, the holiness of our Head and the purity of the Spirit whose temple we are. REFLECTION As a believer, do I fully trust in the transforming action of the Holy Spirit? Go to page 17 for the closing prayers Go to page 6 for the opening prayer
  • 16. MEDITATION It is very important to know that not only religious persons, but all Christians, of whatever state and condition, are obliged, as members of Jesus Christ, to live the holy life of their Head, and to carry out all their actions, great and small, in a Christian manner. What does "in a Christian manner" mean? It means to do them in Jesus Christ and through Jesus Christ, in his Spirit, with his holy and divine provisions. I cannot be content to tell you this, and you will never tire of hearing it and meditating on it, so important is this truth. Consider Jesus Christ, as our leader and head, whose members we are, who passed through all the states and conditions of our mortal life, performed almost all our actions and accomplished all his works, both internal and external, for himself and for us at the same time. In this way, the perfection and holiness of the Christian consist in giving ourselves and in uniting ourselves unceasingly to him as his members, and in continuing to do what he did and as he did it, with the same provisions and intentions of his, and in conforming our whole conduct to that of Jesus, in imitating carefully all his examples, without ever departing from our model and master.
