Essay on Elizabeth
Elizabeth I
Were Queen Elizabeth I and Catherine the Great effective rulers? Were their reign s characterized as
good or not so well? Disregarding the opinion of those who reigned concurrently or historians today,
these two ruled their country in a time of turmoil and uncertainty! The world and the people within it
were undergoing a major transition. New lands were being discovered as well as major role playing
continents and countries were changing status. Some losing power while others gained it. Queen
Elizabeth I and Catherine the Great ruled their country to the extent in which they were able and their
subjects allowed them to. Queen Elizabeth I of England was a remarkable ruler. ... Show more content

In fact, The greatest achievement in English history, the breaking the bonds of Rome , and the
establishment of spiritual independence, was completed without bloodshed under Elizabeth s auspices,
and Elizabeth may have the glory of the work (Time.com, 2). The people of England were in no need
of a government that was more concerned about it more than it was for the people.
Elizabeth was Queen but she established good ties with parliament. England did not need the rule of a
monarchy that controlled strictly, took the people s wealth, and taxed. By taxing the people parliament
could control the people (Funk amp; Wagnalls vol. 9, 193). However, this was the exact opposite of
what Queen Elizabeth did. She was wealthy, however, she allowed the people of England to have the
opportunity to gain wealth. Without alienating public opinion, Queen Elizabeth gained what she
wanted. Queen Elizabeth s policies coincided with the interests of the people.
Queen Elizabeth was active in foreign policy. The people of England, her subjects, began to see new
materials due to her intervention in foreign policy. Furthermore, they began to obtain wealth.
Elizabeth began trade with India and granted a charter to the English East India Company (Time.com,
2). This opened the path for trade as well as the ideas for others to strive to achieve goals, and to set

Wangari Maathai s Nobel Peace Prize Acceptance Speech...
Wangari Maathai expresses her gratitude to the world for her Nobel Peace Prize, and also calls her
audience to action. Her goal is to convince the world that the environment has much more importance
than most people seem to realize. In her speech she begins by expressing her gratitude, and persuading
her audience that she is worth listening to. Second she discusses the importance of the environment
and explains how the Green Belt Movement has helped and changed the world. She then clarifies the
problems still occurring. After establishing the problems, she goes on to make her call to action.
Lastly, she ends by establishing pathos.
Maathai expresses her gratitude in the beginning of the speech. She thanks all the people that made the

She does this to ensure the listeners that taking care of the environment does much more than make
the world we live in look better. Taking care of the environment also takes part in ensuring a
successful democracy and many other important things in society. The idea that Maathai is attempting
to get across to everyone is that the Earth is our friend and we should give back what we take. She
helps us understand this by explaining the awful chain reactions that occur when we don t replenish
what we have consumed from Earth.
Third, she makes her call to action. She asks everyone to take part in something to help the
environment. She addresses each group of people separately. Men and women of all races, children,
young adults, everyone, can take part in something to help. In the course of history, there comes a time
when humanity is called to shift to a new level of consciousness, to reach a higher moral ground. A
time when we have to shed our fear and give hope to each other. That time is now. (4) Her sentence
structure of That time is now, really gives emphasis on what she wants. It is short and to the point. It s
also a very simple sentence. She didn t replace simple words with fancier words. This shows that what
she is asking from people isn t rocket science. She is asking for something as simple as planting trees
or recycling. Her call to action is for everyone to contribute to helping take care of the environment in
some way.

Jonas Experiences In The Giver
Jonas has had a variety of interesting experiences throughout the book. The Giver by Lois Lowry is
about Jonas and he goes through many changes in his life with some help from the Giver. Jonas
experiences develop a theme over the course of The Giver by teaching the reader for every action
there is a consequence. Although some readers may believe that there will not be a consequence, Jonas
experiences show that there are good and bad consequences for everything you do.

The Extent of Protection for Women Against Male Violence...
DISCUSS THE EXTENT OF PROTECTION FOR WOMEN AGAINST MALE VIOLENCE BY
THE STATE. For this essay I am going to look at Domestic Violence against women and what the
State is doing to protect them. Domestic Violence is now a well known global occurrence affecting not
only women but also their children too. Violence against woman has been around since the dawn of
time. We have all seen cartoon pictures of the caveman dragging his mate behind him by her hair. It
was just something that men did. Woman had no protection against men especially if they were
married to their attacker. For the first 75 years of the 20th century women were seen as meek and
subservient to their men and were also owned by those men. Men had a social right to keep ... Show

Violence is attributed to the lower/working classes or black social groups. Sylvia Walby has attacked
this approach by saying that this is not the case. Not all under educated, low paid or low status men go
out and rape and abuse. Radical feminists see domestic violence as a widespread and classless act.
They see that men are expected to take the lead in a situation, they are supposed to be strong and
macho. They go to war and fight for their countries. Their strength is something to be looked up to not
down on. Their strength is their basis of power. The critics against this approach say that is does not
take into account class or race. Male violence is a form of social control and the state does not make
an attempt to control and eradicate it. The sate is run by men, for men, to protect men. Figures to show
the extent of male violence against women is difficult to truly estimate due to the large number of
abuse cases that are never reported to the police. Statistics that have been documented are alarming to
say the least. § 1 in 4 women may experience violence in their relationships with men (Women s Aid
Federation {England} report 1992) § Severe, repeated and systematic violence occurs in at least 5 of
every hundred marriages in the UK: Between 40% and 45% of murdered women are killed by their
male partners; Between 1 and 2 women are murdered by their male partners every week; More that

Anarchism In Emma Goldman s What I Believe
I enjoyed Emma Goldman s What I Believe it was a breath of fresh air in contrast to last weeks
excruciating reading of Henry David Thoreau s Where I Lived, and What I Lived For which seemed
like a glorified account of a basement nerd turned naturalist hippy for the sake of eking out an original
existence from the society that rejected him for his homely looks and unfortunate events that followed
him. Nevertheless his literary contributions helped the collective intellect of the literary world. In
regards to Goldman s views on government designed to maintain the status quo of only a few
benefiting from the backs of the many is true. Goldman s call for Anarchism is foolish because it

The human body craves homeostasis and will do anything in this power to achieve it and most humans

age and living as long as possible. Goldman does do a good job of humanizing her cause by
mentioning a serviceman being severely punished by being jailed and stripped of his military benefits
because he simply went to one of her rally s in her piece on militarism. Her points on militarism are
valid and the fact that America has one of the largest incarcerated populations and biggest military
budgets are a symptom of a capitalist system that lack reforms but, I feel that these points are more
about a call for transparency and reform rather than the dismantling of the government. Goldman s
views on marriage do hold some water to a certain degree but are not as prevalent because of the rise
of social media and dwindling job prospects for my generation that has had a hand in the lack of

Catcher In The Rye Character Analysis
The Catcher In The Rye by J.D. Salinger is about a boy named Holden Caulfield who got kicked out
of Pencey Prep, a private school for boys. Throughout the story Holden shows his dislike for society
because he believes that it corrupts the innocent. Some people might say that Holden doesn´t
understand that as an adult, most innocent people stay innocent and he is just judgemental of all the
people around him. Salinger suggests that in order to transition to the adult world properly, an
individual must understand that we change and most become corrupt. Holden achieves this
understanding to the extent that he tries to save the innocent people and rejects the corrupt, although in
the end he learns to let them free even if they become corrupt. ... Show more content on

In his mind, his brother was totally innocent and could do no wrong. Typically when someone
dies, their relatives try to remember only the good parts of their relationship and life. Holden doesn t
seem to understand that Allie and Jane don t stay innocent as they approach adulthood. Not everyone
is perfect, but he regards them as so wanting them to stay that way. In another way, Holden is calling
everyone that is insincere that are more interested in playing a part than being themselves a phony. It
starts with Ossenburger, a man who donated money to the school and had a wing named after him. He
showed up to a football game in his Cadillac and Holden could just see the big phony bastard shifting
into first gear and asking Jesus to send him a few more stiffs. (20) As he is talking about this man he
keeps judging him for flaunting his money in other s faces. He drives a Cadillac and gives big
speeches but says that he s just a normal guy like the rest of them. Typically, when a person has more
money than other they flaunt it as much as they can. As he is talking about the school and about how
they have been molding boys into men since 1888 he mentions that even the principal s daughter knew
what a phony slob be was. (5) He says that the school is nothing like they advertise and that they don t
do any molding. The principal is the head of this institution, which is why he

Racial Tension In The United States
Racial tension in the United States reached a new high in the second half of the twentieth century.
Black Power movements arose as blacks realized that negotiations and peace talks for integration
could only take them so far in the fight against racism. Particularly, lacks found inspiration in Africa,
which motivated them to act more aggressively against racist thinking (Marable 105). Furthermore,
the Vietnam War added to the loss of rationale as many Americans deemed the war unnecessary. This
affected the black community in that despite the official end of segregation in the armed forces, blacks
were widely unrepresented in the higher ranks (97). The country reflected the violence abroad due to

source for handing punishments (Kimbrough 108). This is a remarkable assertion because it
undermines the power of the Anti Drug Abuse Act and affirms that the discrepancy between the
sentences for crack and cocaine offenders are indeed unreasonable. Justice Ginsburg acknowledges
this specifically by revealing that the Sentencing Commission itself found the disparity set by the 1986

appeal and allowed him to carry on with the sentence the district court first presented. Moreover, a
bigger victory against the War on Drugs is seen by the Court s decision as there is now greater federal
recognition for the severity of drug laws. Nevertheless, the implications of this case still has grave

Impact Of Colonialism And The Missionary Endeavor On Ibo...
The impact of colonialism and the missionary endeavor on Ibo society in Things Fall Apart novel
Introduction
Things Fall Apart novel tries to re erect cultural, social as well as spiritual basics of traditional Igbo
(Ibo) existence from the year 1850 and 1900. Conversely, the novel cannot be inferred like truthful
societal and political olden times of Ibo society since it is a work of invented story. However, the
novel describes disagreements and apprehensions in Igbo society. It also depicts changes initiated by
colonial ruling and Christianity. The author asserts that European colonialism operates as a powerful
as well as well built mediator of the change within Ibo society (Achebe, 2000). Additionally,
Christianity attracted the trivial associates of the Igbo society. Igbo and other societies were altered
considerably due to this variety of deal with Europeans. A few societies expanded in dimension and
authority as marketable centers, whereas others go through great losses in the course of slave invasion.
Hostility get higher, and conflict tactics distorted due to the coming of weapons.
In articulating the accomplishment of Catholic Missionaries Hatch, Roman Catholics appeared to be
most helpful within the endeavor, thereby protecting a paramount place within Igbo society. According
to Chinua Achebe, Educational expansion was the invention of Igbo confined organization but not of
British supervision. As a result, other operation schools such as Anglican schools

How Parachutes Were Used During WWI
How Parachutes were used during the war? Parachutes proved capable for more than entertainment
when they began to apply them during the First World War. During the First World War parachutes
were a valuable utility that was used to save balloonists observing during the war that had serious

that if they gave parachutes to pilots, that they would jump out when unnecessary, and leave the

valuable than aircraft did they start to allow their pilots to begin wearing the guardian angels that

Narrative Essay On A River Runner
Sturgeon River Runner
I thought it was going to be a cool and relaxing river, but I was wrong. Finally, school was out and it
was time for fun and excitement during summer vacation, so my dad thought it was a good idea to go
camping and kayaking. Every summer our family goes on a trip to the Platte River. However, when I
was ten years old my parents decided to do something different and go to the Sturgeon River instead.
This would be one of the fastest and craziest river I have ever gone kayaking on.
We headed to Turtle Lake Campground, and finally arrived around noon so we still had plenty of time
to explore. Since I had never been there before I decided to check it out as soon as I could. I offered to

Yes I replied as I took my shoes off to drain the water out. My dad grabbed my kayak and he flipped it
over to drain the water out of it. I was really cold and scared while we were standing on the shore of
the river waiting for the water to drain back into the river, but I learned my lesson that day and I still

Why Students Should Not Volunteer At School
Some schools require students to participate in volunteer programs in their community in order to
graduate. Is this reasonable? Students should not have to volunteer to receive their diploma. School
systems should not make student volunteer because it defeats the purpose of volunteering, students
may be incapable of volunteering, and they have already worked four years for their diploma.
The first reason students should not volunteer is because it defeats the purpose of volunteering. If
students are forced to do something they are not going to put in as much effort as they would if they
had decided to volunteer on their own. Volunteering is about helping people and if the students do not
chose to volunteer they are not doing it because they want to help their community they are doing it
because they have to to get their diploma. This is one reason volunteering should not be required to
graduate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Free Market Economy Essay
A free market is a type of market that the government is not involved in. Since the government does
not care about what happens, the free market is also called hands off or let it be economics . The
government is limited to protect the citizens from the danger and that is the major goal for the
government. In the free market economy, there are three components of the free market economy:
competition, active but limited government, and the self interest. Competition is one of the main
components of the free market economy. Competition means that the companies compete with one
another to make more benefits to themselves. According to the concept of the free market economy,

The government does not necessarily need to intervene how the marker goes. Therefore, the
competition is a significant factor of the free marker economy.Active but limited government is
another main part of the free market economy. This means that the government undertakes a
significant, active role in the market, but at the same time the government s role is ver limited because
all the investments and decisions in the economy are controlled by the market than by the government.
An invisible hand will control the market. Limited government is a type of government in which there
is a minimum intervention in personal properties. Overall, the government tries to keep the economy
in a law and let it free by limiting itself. Hence, the limited government is an essential factor of the
free market economy.Last, self interest is a significant part of the free market economy. Self interest
refers to one s desire to buy something. The market will be generally controlled by people s interest;
the companies will compete with one another to fit the best taste. This is because the people s interest
will be the main trend in the market and it will control what should be made in the market.
Consequently, the market will be self regulated according to the theory of a free market. Therefore, the
self interest is another significant factor of the free market economy. Therefore, the competition, the

Marie Cure Essay
What does the word radiation bring to mind? Some picture nuclear bombs, others a nuclear power
plant producing radioactive waste. However, one of the first uses of radiation was for medical
treatment, not destruction or energy. The scientist who discovered this potential was Maria Salomea
Sklodowska, also know as Marie Curie. Michael Hart, in his book The 100, stated, It seems to me,
however, that her great fame is based not so much upon the importance of the scientific work she did
as upon the fact that a woman did it. (Hart 515). Some people would argue that Marie Curie s research
was influential because she grew up in Russian controlled areas of Poland, where learning about
certain things was not allowed, she isolated the elements polonium and radium in pitchblende, and that
her work helped advance the development of nuclear technologies. Growing up, Marie Curie was not
in the best of situations, however this gave her the hunger to learn more. She was born in the Russian
controlled Kingdom of Poland on November 7, 1867 (Britannica). Her mother was a principal at a
local school, and her father a physics teacher. When Marie was only five her mother developed

The Legacy Of The Vietnam War Essay
Robert S. McNamara served as the Secretary of Defense from 1961 to 1968 under Presidents Kennedy
and Johnson. While historians place considerable focus on his role in the Vietnam War, McNamara
also helped shape the U.S. s greater Cold War strategy. A large component of this included the
relatively new field of nuclear politics. He understood the significance of nuclear weapons as a
strategic tool for bargaining. Through clear messaging, the weapons could create gains while never
actually being fired. However, he also proposed that nuclear war could be limited, and not inevitably
lead to global extinction. His contemporaries often dismissed this view, and indeed it remains
controversial. After 1968, the former Secretary continued to advise nuclear policy through published
papers, adding considerable fodder for our discussion of his positions on the topic. In Arms and
Influence Thomas Schelling spends significant passages describing McNamara s concept of limited
nuclear war. He quotes a speech from 1961 in which McNamara insists, principle military
objectives...should be the destruction of the enemy s military forces, not of his civilian population.
With traditional weapons, the enemy army generally has to fight its way through the defending army
before accessing civilians. Nuclear missiles eliminate this intermediate step, allowing a hostile body to
quickly destroy a great amount of civilian life without engaging the other army. McNamara advocated
a kind of limited war that

Comparing Two Different Types Of English Riding
In the competitive world of horseback riding, there are two distinct styles: english and western. Even
though both sports require a horse, there are differences in the equipment you ride in, the type of
horse, and the basics of the sport.
The first difference is the type of equipment used in the sport. When riding, you use a saddle of
course, but saddles are made a hundred different ways for certain types of activity. For example, the
saddle you use. For a barrel racer, which is western, the saddle you use has a longer horn for the
ability to grab it when turning the barrels. The saddle is also heavier and thicker so it allows the barrel
racer to sit deep in the seat when going fast. For a jumper, which is english riding, the saddle has no
horn and is extremely light. The saddle is so light because the horse can jump higher and the only
weight that needs to be on the horse is the rider itself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Different breeds of horses have different body structures, different speeds, and different temperaments
that fit with the sport they are used in. In all western sports quarter horses are mainly used even
though other types are used. Quarter horses are usually short and have very muscular hindquarters and
they also have the ability to reach top speed at a quarter of a mile, hence the name quarter horse .
Western sports are timed events but the fastest time wins, which is why this short and fast little horse
is used primarily in the western world of horseback riding. If you attend any english riding sport, the
horses you see are usually tall. For example you wouldn t see a short quarter horse in the jumping
arena trying to jump the high jumps. Thoroughbreds are a common breed spotted in the english arena
because of their build. They are quite tall and that also allows them to be used in racing because of
their high

Servant Leadership Characteristics Of A Servant Leader
In the broadest sense, a servant leader is one who leads others with the mindset of a servant. The
primary motivation of a servant leader is to provide encouragement and facilitation in others by
treating them as an ends in themselves rather than as a means to an ends. A servant leader values the
people he or she leads by sharing power and enabling others to develop and flourish (Waterman,
2011).
Waterman s (2011) study found the following:
The expression of servant leadership characteristics in service to others is putting other people first.
Every leader should have a servant s heart, show care and concern for others and be mentor minded,
that is, have the desire and concern to build and develop others, even at his or her own expense. (p.
25)
While there are many characteristics that are central to the development of a servant leader, the three
that stand out are respectfulness, selflessness, and commitment. Respectfulness is defined as treating
others as important people because they are important (Hunter, 1998, p. 112). Every person has value
and deserves respect. The servant leader can set the level of respect within the organization. Showing
the same amount of respect to an assistant as you would an executive provides motivation and
encouragement, therefore yielding a higher level of performance (Hunter, 1998).
Selflessness is defined as meeting the needs of others even before your own (Hunter, 1998, p. 116).
Being selfless is necessary to serve others and lead

Extreme Sports Not About Risk Taking Study
A wise person once said, The proper function of man is to live, not exist. I shall not waste my days
trying to prolong them. I shall use my time. This quote explains that we should not waste our time and
actually do something worth living for. That we should use the time we have to do or become
something, instead of wasting it. We should use this in our life just like how extreme sports athletes
did. The only difference is that their path is riskier than ours because they do many dangerous
activities such as Base Jumping, Cave Diving, and BMX. Extreme sports are a good idea because you

improve the audience s understanding of key details and to keep the audience s immediate attention.
Imagery is mostly used in an artistic sense by most authors, but in Krakauer s book, he finds a way to
include logical appeals in his imagery while also satisfying the audience. Foreshadowing is used in a
similar way, and the audience is satisfied through well written comments and concluding paragraphs.
Krakauer s use of brief instances of imagery and foreshadowing are effective due to their pacifying
effects on the audience. Firstly, Krakauer uses imagery countless times throughout the book to
emphasize both the beauty and danger surrounding Mount

The Role Of Homeland Security In The United States
In colonial times, the thought of personal privacy was a driving force in bringing people to the New
World. Living under oppressive monarchs, the promise of a self governing new land was attractive to
many early colonists. This new self governing land quickly needed an authoritative police force to
prevent crime and punish criminals. As time and technology progressed however, the laws remained
the same. Eventually, the laws were modernized.

The UFC returns to Madison Square Garden for UFC 217 this Saturday, and the jam packed card
features two legends, three title fights and many rising stars. The main event will be for the UFC
middle weight title, but there s a certain amount of uncertainty regarding what the winner of the fight
between champion Michael Bisping and Georges St Pierre will actually do with the title. Bisping is
defending the title for the second time since winning it at UFC 199 in June 2016, and it will be against
a fighter who hasn t fought in four years in St Pierre. Significantly enough however, it has been more
than a year since Bisping successfully defended the title against Dan Henderson, as he has dealt with

Nov. 4, you re going to find out, pal. Former longtime welterweight champion St Pierre hasn t fought
since UFC 167 in November 2013. It was a close battle against Johny Hendricks, after which he won
by decision and promptly stepped away from the UFC. There have been moments where fans thought
they might see his return, but none of those were as real as challenging Bisping for the title. There
were many rumors circulating about his delay from returning, but the only person who really has the
answers is St Pierre himself. St Pierre won 12 straight fights from 2007 to 2013, a time in which he
absolutely ruled the welterweight division. The only two losses on his record, to Matt Hughes and
Matt Serra, he avenged in convincing fashion. Aside Hughes and Serra, the 36 year old has defeated
high profile names such as Nick Diaz, BJ Penn and Carlos Condit. How he will perform after a four
year layoff against a bigger fighter at a heavier weight is the biggest question. No one in the
middleweight division, including Bisping, seems to think that St Pierre will defend the title if he wins.
St Pierre cleared up those thoughts to the MMA Hour in August. I have to defend my title, St Pierre
said. It s written in my contract. I have to defend my title if I win. In response to moving back down to
welterweight after fighting Bisping and not defending, St Pierre said, That wasn t my

My Strengths And Weaknesses Of My Writing Course
Throughout the course I have become aware of the numerous weaknesses and strengths that I possess.
And a major weakness that I observe in my skills which can be detrimental to my writing is that I lack
the ability to organize my essays properly. When I write essays I tend to do so without the aid of an
outline, however, after this course I was able to understand that an outline is important for me to use.
An outline allows me to pace myself while I write, so that I will be able to properly organize any
essays.
Despite this weakness there are strengths that I have discovered in my writing. The strength is that I
am able to develop the body of my essay effectively. Additionally, I discovered that the work I was

A way in which I will work to improve this skill is by using online grammar worksheets to identify
major areas that I struggle with. Additionally, before starting university I will buy handbooks that can
explain grammar rules concisely. Furthermore, another set of skills that I hope to improve are my
transition skills. I will improve this writing skill by reading essays with acceptable transitions and
comparing them to my own essays, distinguishing the errors I committed when using transitions.
When I write papers, the first step that I take is I decide on the topic that I will write about and then I
will research it. I will research using scholarly articles, information that I may already know,
numerous websites and books. Once I have gathered a sufficient amount of information, I will develop
my thesis. Usually the first thesis I will develop changes as I begin outlining my essay, making sure
not to give away too much information. Consequently, learning to utilize the information available to

Barbara Ehrenreich s Nickel and Dimed Essay
Barbara Ehrenreich s Nickel and Dimed In the novel Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehnreich, there are
many hurtles she must overcome to experience the life of a low income worker. She sets some ground

down payment on an apartment. Although the rules are doable, she admits that she broke all of the
rules at least once. Even though Barbara didn t hold to her original plan, she was still able to reveal

Man of La Mancha
People choose to live their lives their own way and some of these people end up unhappy, and feel that
their life is not worth living. The choice a person makes on how they want to live their life, ultimately
determines their future. A person should choose to live in an illusion which leads to hope, rather then
reality which leads them to despair. The musical play Man of La Mancha , written by Dale
Wasserman, is a perfect example of this because in the play, there are characters who live in illusion
and characters who live in reality. Illusion leads a person to hope, and hope gives a person something
to live for. One persons hope can inspire another to change and to believe. Reality can lead a person to

When Don Quixote was dieing and in his bed, he was depressed until he thought he was a knight
again. Aldonza told him he was not well and he said Not well? What is sickness to the body of a
knight errant? What matter wounds? For each time he falls he shall rise again and woe to the wicked!
(Man of La Mancha pg 79). He was happy and had the illusion that he was okay. He was sick minutes
earlier and could not even get out of bed. After Aldonza brought Don Quixote back, he jumped out of
bed and felt invincible. He was not worried about dieing anymore. He was Don Quixote de La

Some people say that seeing the illusion gives false hope; but false hope is better then no hope at all.
These characters went through some remarkable changes in the way they lived their lives. These
changes ultimately gave them the life that they have always wanted: a happy life without having to
worry about the little things that lead to despair. Cervantes talks about how his comrades died asking
why they had lived at all. They should have asked Why haven t I change my life around? Why do I see
things as they are instead of how I want to see them? These are questions the characters in Cervantes
play asked themselves and they taught him one thing: that it is never too late to change the way a

Real Identity Research Paper
Social media has become a huge part in any person s life. In today s society, knowing how to use the
internet or social media is almost as important as knowing how to read. Bid companies know how to
use these sites to their advantage. Everyday these companies are spending millions of dollars to have

companies spread the word about their products. They use these sites to advertise what they have to

these companies really know their viewer and sometimes they are way off. My advertising identity

In Singapore, the close ties between PAP and NTUC is not a relationship that is kept behind close
doors. In fact, NTUC s Secretary General Lim Chee Onn in 1982 openly stated that the PAP and
NTUC come from the same womb. This elitist society as evidenced goes against the definition of a
trade union, as the members of a trade union should be the common man who isn t part of any elitist
group. The PAP government believes that the NTUC should have elite leadership to guide the non
elite leaders and the ordinary members of the union. The PAP also believed that Singapore would
benefit from appointing the elitist society as, the non elite cannot be relied upon to represent
themselves competently (Barr, 2000, p. 482). This belief reeks of anti democracy however, it has
somehow been accepted with the general public in Singapore. In China, the government usually
appoints the senior officials of the ACFTU. Even if members elect a representative, the union may not
necessarily agree on the elected representative. The top official in ACFTU is also a member of the
leading body of the CCP and usually holds a position more senior in the government than in the union.
As like the NTUC and PAP, the ACFTU and CCP career paths for members are permeable. However,
the status and prospects in the CCP are more desirable than in ACFTU and thus union members are
more prone to associate with CCP s interests than the unions. Both

Marketing Of The Craft Beer Industry Essay

Rivalry in the craft beer industry is high and in addition to the excise tax and overall high
manufacturing cost have promoted mergers and acquisitions in order to consolidate and globalize the
industry. Anheuser Busch InBev merged with Belgium based Inbev as one of the major transactions in
2008, forming Anheuser Busch InBev. Heineken (HEINY) another major brewer, acquired the beer
business of FEMSA in 2010. As in 2013, Anheuser Busch InBev one of the market leaders acquired
Grupo Modelo, Mexican brewer. In the following year 2014, Anheuser Busch InBev reacquire
Oriental Brewery, South Korea brewer. (Sharon Bailey) The acquisitions combined their market share

Although sales of premium brands have fallen in a steady response to the growing popularity of the

Comparing the Concentrations of Saturated Solutions...
In this lab, lab 4.3 Comparing the Concentrations of Saturated Solutions, we set out to find and
compare the solubilities of two solids in water. In addition, we tested if solubility is a characteristic
property of a solid in a given liquid. This lab allowed us to test and use a reliable way to measure the
solubility of a solid. This lab can be replicated for any solid with the same procedure, thus it gives us a
method to calculate solubility. The two solids we tested in this experiment were NaCl (Sodium
Chloride) and NaNO3 (Sodium Nitrate). To begin the experiment, we measured 5cc of water and 5g of
NaCl and added them to a test tube. Next, we stoppered the test tube and shook vigorously for two or
three minutes. After we observed that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Six of the ten sodium chloride groups found the solubility of sodium chloride to be statistically
36g/100cc of water, with a +3g/100cc margin of error. Three of the four groups outside this margin of
error had solubilities in the forties, 42, 48, 49g/100cc. These three groups made an experimental error
that altered their results and can be excluded from our analysis of data. Another group was in the low
thirties with 30g/100cc. Yet the beginning masses that compose the solubility equations do differ. For
example, one group found that the mass of their solution was 4.21 grams, but another recorded a mass
of 5.47 grams. When it comes to the mass of the solid (solute) the former recorded a mass of 1.11
grams, the latter reported a mass of 1.38 grams. Nonetheless, they came out with the same solubility
of 34 grams per 100 cc of water. Thus we can prove that that solubility is a characteristic property.
This is because every group started with a different mass of solution and solid, but they concluded
with the same solubility (given the +3 gram margin of error and excluding outliers) or were close.
Therefore, solubility is a characteristic property. Of the eight sodium nitrate groups three of them
found statistically, with a +3g margin of error, 86g/100cc as the solubility of sodium nitrate in water.
Another group calculated the solubility to be 82, which is just below the margin of error. Two of the
eight groups

Impact of Maternal Stress, Depression Anxiety on Fetal Neurobehavioral Development
There have been many studies done over the years on the effects of postnatal psychological distress
and how they affect the child, but in more recent studies researchers have found that maternal stress,
depression, and anxiety are not more severe as they are postnatal than during pregnancy (Kinsella,
2013). Women who experience depression and anxiety during pregnancy face a multitude of potential
problems for their unborn baby, which can be compared to the effects a mother who smokes puts on
her baby. The difference between these two factors is that mothers choose to smoke compared to
women who are overcome with a psychological disorder, but the baby is effected either way by these
risk factors. The prenatal period in a person s life is one of the most crucial times in
neurodevelopment, and it is also one of the most vulnerable periods they will encounter. This is the

For example, if they were to eat almonds because of the fiber they would feel full longer and cause the
blood sugar to decrease. Yet, if they were to consume a soft drink it would be observed faster in the
liver causing the blood sugar to rise creating fat cells immediately. The obvious choice would be to eat
almonds, but it is more likely that children will prefer a soft drink (Fed Up, 2014). This relates to
previous class discussions on the bliss point, in which food industries add the right amount of salt,
sugar, and fat to make children crave the food more. It puts children more at risk because not only is it
affecting their leptin, and ghrelin levels, it will make it more difficult for children to have the energy
to work out and chose healthier food

Composing Video Game Music
Composing video game music is more of a challenge than you d think. When scoring a video game,
the composer needs to keep certain things in mind. First off, the composer needs to write music that ll
help build atmosphere. In general, the music should match what you re seeing or doing as the player.
Background music being played inside a cold, dark, lifeless cave should sound different from the
music being played in a warm, bright and inviting town, as an example. Second, the composer does
not have control of the timing. Normally when writing music for another medium, let s say movies,
you can have the music sync up with the set pieces. Baby Driver does an excellent job with its musical
scorers and it s a really good example of timing your music with the movie. But in video games, it s
up to the player to decide where to go and how long to stay there. As a composer the best choice
would be to have your music loop and sell the atmosphere. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It has wood wind flutes that evoke a jungle or forest setting. It has the military snare drums and the big
band cinematic trumpets. Later on, it starts plucking a violin. It s a pizzicato, Italian for plucked, and it
s a sound that s been used to accentuate mischief and sneaking for decades. This is what you hear in
cartoons when someone s tiptoeing through the kitchen and doesn t want anyone to hear. But earlier in
the song when everything s winding up, there s a guitar that s being plucked to the same tune as the
mission impossible theme from the 60s, further selling the idea that your playing a spy thriller game.
But that s not all, this track even describes the timing and pacing of the gameplay. How does it do
that? Well its synced to the enemies pacing. The fact that this music is such an overlooked detail of
this game is a testament to how it does everything right. You just can t listen to this music without
wanting to sneak about and cause all sorts of

The Mind Is A Complex Part Of The Human Being That Can...
The mind is a complex part of the human being that can elicit emotions, thoughts, and reactions that
influence and mold an individual s personality and attitude. Culture, diversity, religion can also play a
strong role in how an individual views the world. As well as how the individual was raised, what
values were instilled, and various experiences in life. Between the attributes that are contained in the
mind, a person s culture, values, and experiences in life are the sediment for a person s foundation.
The attributes mentioned, cannot act alone to help an individual in how they will cope with various
situations. Some individuals are reluctant to be resilient by accepting help and support when
encountered by stressors, tragedies, or traumas in life. Others decide that they want to put on a brave
face and do the best they can, yet do not communicate to anyone their problems. Consequently, this
can lead for a person to repress feelings, and when they reach a breaking point emotions come out, can
be of a great magnitude and dangerous. No doubt, the field of counseling and therapy is essential and
beneficial to just about everyone. Case Study/Stressors Take, for instance, Linda s case who is a 42
year old Hispanic female who lives in NYC. She is facing the following social stressors: finding out
her husband of 21 years has been meeting up with various women, helping her live in mother with her
legal problems, and has her two children of college age at home. An environmental

Definition Essay On Self Respect
Respect can be defined as an action or a feeling that is shown to others, oneself or something. Some
may that you can get a feeling out of any virtue, for example anger or disrespect, but respect is usually
connected between two individuals; an action of showing how much love, pride and honor you have
for them and having your words and actions speak for you indicating that respect is being shown.
There is a chain reaction when it comes to expressing respect, you must give respect to gain respect
and it can go the other way around also, where in order to receive respect you must give respect.
When it comes to the virtue respect it is a give and take type of situation. As Fyodor Dostoyevsky,
Russian novelist and short story writer, once said, If you want to be respected by others, the great
thing is to respect yourself. Only by self respect you will compel others to respect you. Having self
respect has a lot to do with one s self esteem, knowing their own worth and confidence plays an
important role. Having an open mind to being wrong is a gateway to self respect, it shows
acknowledgment and acceptance of the truth or existence of a fact or opinion. It shows that a person
knows their rights from wrongs and having self respect opens new doors of opportunities, this means
that a person is willing to understand their mistakes and learn from them; learn from those mistakes,
wrongs and anything that can be found to not being worthy of putting it out there in the world and

Enlightenment Influence On The French Revolution
The French Revolution was a period of far reaching social and political change in France that lasted
from 1789 to 1799. Before the revolution there was a period of time called the Enlightenment. The
Enlightenment was a philosophical movement in which followers considered that human reason
brought a move from theory to practice and criticism to reforming education, household
administration, social reactions and politics. Voltaire, a French philosopher and contributor to the Age
of Enlightenment, expressed these ideas utilizing his intelligence, wit and style to mark his name as
one of France s greatest writers. The Enlightenment influenced the French Revolution to a great extent
by introducing new ideas that encouraged questioning of authority and religion, advancing people s
outlook on commodities, and forcing citizens to compare their need with the Republic s needs. This
further brought an uprising of people wanting more such as equality and civil rights. In the process to
do so there were 250,000 casualties in the Reign of Terror followed the Thermidorian Reaction which
implemented an oligarchy government called the Directory. Royalist riots prompted the Coup d etat of
Fructidor which brought Napoleon into Directory which he later overthrows and creates an
Authoritarian Republic. The ideas of equality and rights to men which were stressed by Enlightenment
philosophers are all incorporated into documents 1,4 and 5. Society before the French revolution was

Personality In Dante s Inferno
Didn t have enough room to dump all this text on the app =v=/ so here is some more info on Dante.
Personality:
Dante is an introvert who works a lot better with others one on one vs being confronted by a group.
Carrying somewhat of a defeatist attitude, he hates being prejudged but accepts too easily nothing he
can do will change how others think of him, so why try right? It s not surprising this is the reason why
he doesn t get along with most people or why he can strongly come off like an ass even when he doesn
t mean for it. If somehow his distant personality doesn t push you away, you ll find that he s actually a
silly goofball under the surface, even messing or overly joking around with those he calls close.
Nothing hurts him more then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(He shapeshifts into his Amphitere form, the last thing his human form would want and a very, very
deadly alter ego. When locked into this spell Dante can not fight off the monstrous switch in his brain
and will become the most unforgiving sadistic creature hell bent on causing as much damage to
anyone and any thing as possible, even to those close to him, heck the closer the better. In this form he
can fly, fire a disgusting black fire ball and tunnel underground with his sharp claws. Speaking of
claws, if you get cut by them you will be infected with chromatose. A deadly virus that only
Amphitere blood built an immunity towards. Stage 1 is the cut turning pale followed by black dots
forming around the surround areas. Stage 2 is where it travels over the body causing it to go
completely sickly pale with black dots and horrendous cause of coughing up black ooze. Stage 3, the
ooze will fill the host system s body intill it leaks out every crack left and suffocates them from the
inside out making for a painful death. This virus however is not fast and can take up to a couple of
days to kill, however if the host has a damaged body or ends up getting more cuts it will processes
much, much faster at an alarming

Ten Years Ago A Journalist With The New York Times Committed
Ten years ago a journalist with the New York Times committed plagiarism on an article. Moreover, it
was later found he previously committed plagiarism before that while employed in other writing
capacities. Blair attended the University of Maryland where he studied journalism. He interned at The
New York Times in 1998 and offered an extended internship. However, he declined the offer of the
extended internship to complete more courses before graduating (Bailey, 2008). In 1999 Blair returned
to The New York Times as an intermediate reporter . Moreover, according to 30 staff members on The
times a letter signed by them in 2003 reported that Blair made four serious errors as a writer and editor
that brought his integrity into question ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, it was later found that Blair s time at prior journalist jobs, as well as, his college newspaper
showed similiar questionable behavior, but The Times ignored Blair s potential for use of unethical
journalism methods (Bailey, 2008). In addition, it was later found that Blair s senior editor warned
Blair a number of times about possible plagiarism. However, for whatever reason The Times ignored
these warning, stating that they placed complete trust in its employees. In fact The Times compared
the paper to other entities replying, like Every newspaper, like every bank and every police
department, we trust our employees to uphold central principles (Bailey 2008, p.1). However, in many
ways The New York Times blind trust policy was unchecked and even promoted Blair s unethical
behavior (Mnookin, 2005).
Jayson Blair s New York Time s scandal would never have happened if The Times had a better system
of validating and checking for possible plagerism before a story was sent for print. Moreover, as
Tannenbaum (2003) mentions in her article there were plagiarism detection tools present that could
have been used and would have averted the Blair scandal. The New York Times like other newspapers
determined that they did not have to check their writer s stories for accuracy or possible plagerism.
Unfortunately, Blair crossed the line and ignored the majority of the journalism codes of

In fact, The greatest achievement in English history, the breaking the bonds of Rome , and the establishment of spiritual independence, was completed without bloodshed under Elizabeth s auspices, and Elizabeth may have the glory of the work (Time.com, 2). The people of England were in no need of a government that was more concerned about it more than it was for the people. Elizabeth was Queen but she established good ties with parliament. England did not need the rule of a monarchy that controlled strictly, took the people s wealth, and taxed. By taxing the people parliament could control the people (Funk amp; Wagnalls vol. 9, 193). However, this was the exact opposite of what Queen Elizabeth did. She was wealthy, however, she allowed the people of England to have the opportunity to gain wealth. Without alienating public opinion, Queen Elizabeth gained what she wanted. Queen Elizabeth s policies coincided with the interests of the people. Queen Elizabeth was active in foreign policy. The people of England, her subjects, began to see new materials due to her intervention in foreign policy. Furthermore, they began to obtain wealth. Her goal is to convince the world that the environment has much more importance than most people seem to realize. In her speech she begins by expressing her gratitude, and persuading her audience that she is worth listening to. Second she discusses the importance of the environment and explains how the Green Belt Movement has helped and changed the world. She then clarifies the problems still occurring. After establishing the problems, she goes on to make her call to action. Lastly, she ends by establishing pathos. Maathai expresses her gratitude in the beginning of the speech. She does this to ensure the listeners that taking care of the environment does much more than make the world we live in look better. Taking care of the environment also takes part in ensuring a successful democracy and many other important things in society. The idea that Maathai is attempting to get across to everyone is that the Earth is our friend and we should give back what we take. She helps us understand this by explaining the awful chain reactions that occur when we don t replenish what we have consumed from Earth. Third, she makes her call to action. She asks everyone to take part in something to help the environment. She addresses each group of people separately. Men and women of all races, children, young adults, everyone, can take part in something to help. In the course of history, there comes a time when humanity is called to shift to a new level of consciousness, to reach a higher moral ground. A time when we have to shed our fear and give hope to each other. That time is now. (4) Her sentence structure of That time is now, really gives emphasis on what she wants. It is short and to the point. It s also a very simple sentence. She didn t replace simple words with fancier words. This shows that what she is asking from people isn t rocket science. She is asking for something as simple as planting trees or recycling. Her call to action is for everyone to contribute to helping take care of the environment in some way. ... • 6. The Extent of Protection for Women Against Male Violence... DISCUSS THE EXTENT OF PROTECTION FOR WOMEN AGAINST MALE VIOLENCE BY THE STATE. For this essay I am going to look at Domestic Violence against women and what the State is doing to protect them. Domestic Violence is now a well known global occurrence affecting not only women but also their children too. Violence against woman has been around since the dawn of time. We have all seen cartoon pictures of the caveman dragging his mate behind him by her hair. It was just something that men did. Woman had no protection against men especially if they were married to their attacker. For the first 75 years of the 20th century women were seen as meek and subservient to their men and were also owned by those men. Men had a social right to keep ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Violence is attributed to the lower/working classes or black social groups. Sylvia Walby has attacked this approach by saying that this is not the case. Not all under educated, low paid or low status men go out and rape and abuse. Radical feminists see domestic violence as a widespread and classless act. They see that men are expected to take the lead in a situation, they are supposed to be strong and macho. They go to war and fight for their countries. Their strength is something to be looked up to not down on. Their strength is their basis of power. The critics against this approach say that is does not take into account class or race. Male violence is a form of social control and the state does not make an attempt to control and eradicate it. The sate is run by men, for men, to protect men. Figures to show the extent of male violence against women is difficult to truly estimate due to the large number of abuse cases that are never reported to the police. Statistics that have been documented are alarming to say the least. § 1 in 4 women may experience violence in their relationships with men (Women s Aid Federation {England} report 1992) § Severe, repeated and systematic violence occurs in at least 5 of every hundred marriages in the UK: Between 40% and 45% of murdered women are killed by their male partners; Between 1 and 2 women are murdered by their male partners every week; More that 25% of all violent crime repeated to the ... Anarchism In Emma Goldman s What I Believe I enjoyed Emma Goldman s What I Believe it was a breath of fresh air in contrast to last weeks excruciating reading of Henry David Thoreau s Where I Lived, and What I Lived For which seemed like a glorified account of a basement nerd turned naturalist hippy for the sake of eking out an original existence from the society that rejected him for his homely looks and unfortunate events that followed him. Nevertheless his literary contributions helped the collective intellect of the literary world. • 8. Catcher In The Rye Character Analysis The Catcher In The Rye by J.D. Salinger is about a boy named Holden Caulfield who got kicked out of Pencey Prep, a private school for boys. Throughout the story Holden shows his dislike for society because he believes that it corrupts the innocent. Some people might say that Holden doesn´t understand that as an adult, most innocent people stay innocent and he is just judgemental of all the people around him. Salinger suggests that in order to transition to the adult world properly, an individual must understand that we change and most become corrupt. Holden achieves this understanding to the extent that he tries to save the innocent people and rejects the corrupt, although in the end he learns to let them free even if they become corrupt. ... In another way, Holden is calling everyone that is insincere that are more interested in playing a part than being themselves a phony. It starts with Ossenburger, a man who donated money to the school and had a wing named after him. • 17. Marie Cure Essay What does the word radiation bring to mind? Some picture nuclear bombs, others a nuclear power plant producing radioactive waste. However, one of the first uses of radiation was for medical treatment, not destruction or energy. The scientist who discovered this potential was Maria Salomea Sklodowska, also know as Marie Curie. Michael Hart, in his book The 100, stated, It seems to me, however, that her great fame is based not so much upon the importance of the scientific work she did as upon the fact that a woman did it. (Hart 515). Some people would argue that Marie Curie s research was influential because she grew up in Russian controlled areas of Poland, where learning about certain things was not allowed, she isolated the elements polonium and radium in pitchblende, and that her work helped advance the development of nuclear technologies. Growing up, Marie Curie was not in the best of situations, however this gave her the hunger to learn more. She was born in the Russian controlled Kingdom of Poland on November 7, 1867 (Britannica). • 18. The Legacy Of The Vietnam War Essay Robert S. McNamara served as the Secretary of Defense from 1961 to 1968 under Presidents Kennedy and Johnson. While historians place considerable focus on his role in the Vietnam War, McNamara also helped shape the U.S. s greater Cold War strategy. A large component of this included the relatively new field of nuclear politics. He understood the significance of nuclear weapons as a strategic tool for bargaining. Through clear messaging, the weapons could create gains while never actually being fired. However, he also proposed that nuclear war could be limited, and not inevitably lead to global extinction. His contemporaries often dismissed this view, and indeed it remains controversial. After 1968, the former Secretary continued to advise nuclear policy through published papers, adding considerable fodder for our discussion of his positions on the topic. In Arms and Influence Thomas Schelling spends significant passages describing McNamara s concept of limited nuclear war. He quotes a speech from 1961 in which McNamara insists, principle military objectives...should be the destruction of the enemy s military forces, not of his civilian population. With traditional weapons, the enemy army generally has to fight its way through the defending army before accessing civilians. Nuclear missiles eliminate this intermediate step, allowing a hostile body to quickly destroy a great amount of civilian life without engaging the other army. Even though both sports require a horse, there are differences in the equipment you ride in, the type of horse, and the basics of the sport. The first difference is the type of equipment used in the sport. When riding, you use a saddle of course, but saddles are made a hundred different ways for certain types of activity. For example, the saddle you use. For a barrel racer, which is western, the saddle you use has a longer horn for the ability to grab it when turning the barrels. The saddle is also heavier and thicker so it allows the barrel racer to sit deep in the seat when going fast. For a jumper, which is english riding, the saddle has no horn and is extremely light. The primary motivation of a servant leader is to provide encouragement and facilitation in others by treating them as an ends in themselves rather than as a means to an ends. A servant leader values the people he or she leads by sharing power and enabling others to develop and flourish (Waterman, 2011). Waterman s (2011) study found the following: The expression of servant leadership characteristics in service to others is putting other people first. Every leader should have a servant s heart, show care and concern for others and be mentor minded, that is, have the desire and concern to build and develop others, even at his or her own expense. (p. 25) While there are many characteristics that are central to the development of a servant leader, the three that stand out are respectfulness, selflessness, and commitment. Respectfulness is defined as treating others as important people because they are important (Hunter, 1998, p. 112). Every person has value and deserves respect. The servant leader can set the level of respect within the organization. Showing the same amount of respect to an assistant as you would an executive provides motivation and encouragement, therefore yielding a higher level of performance (Hunter, 1998). Selflessness is defined as meeting the needs of others even before your own (Hunter, 1998, p. 116). Being selfless is necessary to serve others and lead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This quote explains that we should not waste our time and actually do something worth living for. That we should use the time we have to do or become something, instead of wasting it. We should use this in our life just like how extreme sports athletes did. The only difference is that their path is riskier than ours because they do many dangerous activities such as Base Jumping, Cave Diving, and BMX. Extreme sports are a good idea because you get to be in the moment and feel the rush, but you should take some precautions because it can be very dangerous. In this lab, lab 4.3 Comparing the Concentrations of Saturated Solutions, we set out to find and compare the solubilities of two solids in water. In addition, we tested if solubility is a characteristic property of a solid in a given liquid. This lab allowed us to test and use a reliable way to measure the solubility of a solid. This lab can be replicated for any solid with the same procedure, thus it gives us a method to calculate solubility. The two solids we tested in this experiment were NaCl (Sodium Chloride) and NaNO3 (Sodium Nitrate). To begin the experiment, we measured 5cc of water and 5g of NaCl and added them to a test tube. Next, we stoppered the test tube and shook vigorously for two or three minutes. After we observed that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Six of the ten sodium chloride groups found the solubility of sodium chloride to be statistically 36g/100cc of water, with a +3g/100cc margin of error. Three of the four groups outside this margin of error had solubilities in the forties, 42, 48, 49g/100cc. These three groups made an experimental error that altered their results and can be excluded from our analysis of data. Another group was in the low thirties with 30g/100cc. Yet the beginning masses that compose the solubility equations do differ. For example, one group found that the mass of their solution was 4.21 grams, but another recorded a mass of 5.47 grams. When it comes to the mass of the solid (solute) the former recorded a mass of 1.11 grams, the latter reported a mass of 1.38 grams. Nonetheless, they came out with the same solubility of 34 grams per 100 cc of water. Thus we can prove that that solubility is a characteristic property. This is because every group started with a different mass of solution and solid, but they concluded with the same solubility (given the +3 gram margin of error and excluding outliers) or were close. Therefore, solubility is a characteristic property. Of the eight sodium nitrate groups three of them found statistically, with a +3g margin of error, 86g/100cc as the solubility of sodium nitrate in water. Another group calculated the solubility to be 82, which is just below the margin of error. Two of the eight groups ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Impact of Maternal Stress, Depression Anxiety on Fetal Neurobehavioral Development There have been many studies done over the years on the effects of postnatal psychological distress and how they affect the child, but in more recent studies researchers have found that maternal stress, depression, and anxiety are not more severe as they are postnatal than during pregnancy (Kinsella, 2013). Women who experience depression and anxiety during pregnancy face a multitude of potential problems for their unborn baby, which can be compared to the effects a mother who smokes puts on her baby. The difference between these two factors is that mothers choose to smoke compared to women who are overcome with a psychological disorder, but the baby is effected either way by these risk factors. The prenatal period in a person s life is one of the most crucial times in neurodevelopment, and it is also one of the most vulnerable periods they will encounter. This is the period in which a variety of exposures have been found to cause long term effects on the brain s development and behavior, including physical and psychiatric health (Kinsella, 2013). Fed Up Documentary In the documentary Fed Up presented by Katie Couric and Laurie David they focus on the fabrications presented by the food industry in regards of creating healthier choices for the public. According to the documentary 2 out of 3 Americans are either overweight or obese, and it is surpassing cancer rates (Fed Up, 2014). In order to address the problem health professionals recommend their patients that in order to lose weight they must exercise and eat less. It is a simple solution to a condition that is greatly stigmatized by society. This documentary argues that eating less and exercise will not guarantee weight loss in individuals. Doctors tell their patients that the fewer calories they consume the easier it will be for them to lose weight. However, this statement is not realistic for many people, specifically children. Yet, if they were to consume a soft drink it would be observed faster in the liver causing the blood sugar to rise creating fat cells immediately. The obvious choice would be to eat almonds, but it is more likely that children will prefer a soft drink (Fed Up, 2014). This relates to previous class discussions on the bliss point, in which food industries add the right amount of salt, sugar, and fat to make children crave the food more. • 43. Composing Video Game Music Composing video game music is more of a challenge than you d think. When scoring a video game, the composer needs to keep certain things in mind. First off, the composer needs to write music that ll help build atmosphere. In general, the music should match what you re seeing or doing as the player. Background music being played inside a cold, dark, lifeless cave should sound different from the music being played in a warm, bright and inviting town, as an example. Second, the composer does not have control of the timing. Normally when writing music for another medium, let s say movies, you can have the music sync up with the set pieces. Baby Driver does an excellent job with its musical scorers and it s a really good example of timing your music with the movie. But in video games, it s up to the player to decide where to go and how long to stay there. As a composer the best choice would be to have your music loop and sell the atmosphere. ... • 45. Definition Essay On Self Respect Respect can be defined as an action or a feeling that is shown to others, oneself or something. Some may that you can get a feeling out of any virtue, for example anger or disrespect, but respect is usually connected between two individuals; an action of showing how much love, pride and honor you have for them and having your words and actions speak for you indicating that respect is being shown. There is a chain reaction when it comes to expressing respect, you must give respect to gain respect and it can go the other way around also, where in order to receive respect you must give respect. When it comes to the virtue respect it is a give and take type of situation. As Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Russian novelist and short story writer, once said, If you want to be respected by others, the great thing is to respect yourself. Only by self respect you will compel others to respect you. Having self respect has a lot to do with one s self esteem, knowing their own worth and confidence plays an important role. Having an open mind to being wrong is a gateway to self respect, it shows acknowledgment and acceptance of the truth or existence of a fact or opinion. It shows that a person knows their rights from wrongs and having self respect opens new doors of opportunities, this means that a person is willing to understand their mistakes and learn from them; learn from those mistakes, wrongs and anything that can be found to not being worthy of putting it out there in the world and public ... • 46. Enlightenment Influence On The French Revolution The French Revolution was a period of far reaching social and political change in France that lasted from 1789 to 1799. Before the revolution there was a period of time called the Enlightenment. The Enlightenment was a philosophical movement in which followers considered that human reason brought a move from theory to practice and criticism to reforming education, household administration, social reactions and politics. Voltaire, a French philosopher and contributor to the Age of Enlightenment, expressed these ideas utilizing his intelligence, wit and style to mark his name as one of France s greatest writers. The Enlightenment influenced the French Revolution to a great extent by introducing new ideas that encouraged questioning of authority and religion, advancing people s outlook on commodities, and forcing citizens to compare their need with the Republic s needs. This further brought an uprising of people wanting more such as equality and civil rights. In the process to do so there were 250,000 casualties in the Reign of Terror followed the Thermidorian Reaction which implemented an oligarchy government called the Directory. Royalist riots prompted the Coup d etat of Fructidor which brought Napoleon into Directory which he later overthrows and creates an Authoritarian Republic. Also, it was later found that Blair s time at prior journalist jobs, as well as, his college newspaper showed similiar questionable behavior, but The Times ignored Blair s potential for use of unethical journalism methods (Bailey, 2008). In addition, it was later found that Blair s senior editor warned Blair a number of times about possible plagiarism. However, for whatever reason The Times ignored these warning, stating that they placed complete trust in its employees. In fact The Times compared the paper to other entities replying, like Every newspaper, like every bank and every police department, we trust our employees to uphold central principles (Bailey 2008, p.1). However, in many ways The New York Times blind trust policy was unchecked and even promoted Blair s unethical behavior (Mnookin, 2005). Jayson Blair s New York Time s scandal would never have happened if The Times had a better system of validating and checking for possible plagerism before a story was sent for print. Moreover, as Tannenbaum (2003) mentions in her article there were plagiarism detection tools present that could have been used and would have averted the Blair scandal. The New York Times like other newspapers determined that they did not have to check their writer s stories for accuracy or possible plagerism.
