The document presents a joint design of adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) combined with an adaptive ARQ protocol for improving throughput in cooperative amplify-and-forward relay networks. It extends existing models by generalizing cross-layer designs, analyzing their effectiveness in enhancing throughput under specific delay and error constraints, particularly in low signal-to-noise ratio conditions. Numerical results demonstrate significant improvements in average throughput by optimizing both the retransmission limits and cooperation order in adaptive relay networks.
