— What if
theradically
changing world
could be a boost
for creativity?
With the acceleration of global
transformations, the world of design,
which is both a mirror and precursor of
societal change, buzzes and overflows,
shaping new impulses. It acts as our guide
as we imagine new emerging aesthetics.
Our optimistic nature counts on humanity
to rise to the occasion and do what we do
best: reconstruct the pillars of civilization
to create sustainable achievements.
With hope and faith in our ability to adapt
to climate threats, a flamboyant and
baroque mimicry comes forth, in sync
with a resilient biodiversity.
Two opposing experiences complement
one another:
- our imaginations, augmented by digital
tools, take a turn to explore a rich fantasy
world intense with sensations and
emotions;
- on a more pragmatic note: new lifestyles
give us more freedom, spontaneity and
a salutary sense of openness.

1 Artist Lucas Price stages the new Carhartt
collection in a series of paintings that he says are
“set up as typical Northern Renaissance images.”
With this choice the brand’s clothes come across
as real classics. 2 Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s
artworks in progress continue after their death.
Negotiations are currently under way for the
realization of their gigantic pyramid made of oil
barrels in the sands of the United Arab Emirates.
3 “Fashion balls”, made in collaboration with the
students of the Royal Academy and spread across
Antwerp to mark the reopening of MoMu, were
conceived by Walter Van Beirendonck as amusing
living sculptures that celebrate
the pleasure of coming together again in
the city. 4 At Bourse de Commerce - Pinault
Collection, the powerful simplicity of Tadao
Ando’s architecture is displayed in a meticulously
restored historical building, combining modernity
and a respect for history and creating a grandiose
setting in which to present the foundation’s art
collection.
5 “Close-up”, the exhibition at Fondation Beyeler
(Switzerland) presents the portraits and self-
portraits of nine women artists, highlighting the
precious originality in their vision of themselves
and others. 6 World renowned anthropologist
Philippe Descola’s book “Les Forms du Visible”
summarizes the history of images in cultures across
the globe. Going beyond the notion of art, he puts
all modes of representation into perspective to
underline the infinite wealth of human production.
7 The human figure is the key focus of Olmec art,
the oldest Pre-Columbian Mesoamerican civilization.
An exhibition at Quai-Branly (Paris) probes
the mysteries of this culture, whose specificities
and exceptional artwork intrigue researchers.
8 With their performance “And on the Thousandth
Night...”, inspired by One Thousand and One Nights,
the Forced Entertainment collective (a theater
company that focuses on retelling the classics)
delves into language and narrative styles. Dressed
as kings and queens from an undefined era,
protagonists begin telling a story that could take
any number of directions, thus reactivating the
dynamic of this mythical work.
5 L’exposition « Close-up » à la Fondation Beyeler
6 Philippe Descola, anthropologue
mondialement reconnu,publie «Lesformesduvisible»,
« And On The Thousandth Night... », inspirée des
Mille et Une Nuits, le collectif Forced Entertainment

au langage et aux modes de narration. Déguisés
en rois et reines intemporels, les protagonistes

The comeback of the portrait (the common thread throughout
Art Paris 2021) is a strong sign of the world’s interest in
human beings. Artists explore the uniqueness of faces and
individualities while researchers, driven by the same passion
for humanity, explore the immense wealth of cultures.
