Academic Clustering Paper
1. How did you select this research study to analyze? That is, what search terms did you use? What
database did you use? What was your rationale for selecting this particular study to analyze over the
others identified in the search results? What is the full reference for the study in APA format?
When searching for research studies about Academic Clustering I used the SportDiscus through the
University of North Florida s Database. Using the terms Athletes and Academic Clustering. I chose
this article because I selected another one of their research studies and believe they provide a great
deal of background information on the topic as well as great research that can be used to improve the
academic experience of athletes. Fountain and Finley seem very well ... Show more content on

What was the research question? (Some authors are more general and state only a purpose for the
research study. If so, indicate the purpose.)
The purpose of the study is to study academic clustering and race to determine whether it merits entrée
into discussions that traditionally centered on graduate rates, academic fraud and academic support
(2009, p.5). The three research questions they posed were; (1) Does academic clustering occur among
ACC football players? (2) Is there a difference of clustering when considering White and Minority
subgroups? (3) Are there multiple majors at these schools that exceed the threshold to be considered
clustered?.
4. What were the source of the data collected? For example, who were the participants? What was the
sample? What sites for research data collection were used? And/or What documents were studied?
The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) consist of 12 schools at the time of this study in 2006. They
used data from 11 out of the 12 schools and used 394 upperclassman football players from these
schools. The sample contained 41.4% White players and 58.6% Minority players. They used media
guides from the 2006 season to determine the academic majors of the

The Effects Of Cell Phones And Other Electronic Devices
Instead of obtaining information only through reading text, visual arguments provide more
conveniences for viewers to understand the information by a quick glance at the given images, which
are related to the main idea of the information. Compared with text information, in text visuals make
the arguments to be more attractive and vivid, which can inspire readers to think and affect their ideas
directly. This report will focus on two informative images Radiation from Cell Phones and Other
Electronic Devices [2] and Graphic Science: A World of Food Delivered to America s Doorstep [1].
These two visuals are taken from Science American website and the author for both visuals is Mark
Fischetti who is a senior editor at this website. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the image, the author uses lots of specific examples to show the sources and uses of radiation
frequency in human daily life, such as mobile phones, TV Broadcast and wireless Data. By using
things, which people are familiar with, to explain how different intensities of radiation work and how
strong they are, this method makes scientific things to be easily understand by readers and raise
readers emotional responses according to their own using experience. Appeal to pathos, the sense of
familiarity causes people to connect the image information to their own experiences and be more
interested about the author s idea. Especially, cell phone radiation using is a public concern because
most people use cell phone frequently in their daily life. The idea of there is no threat [2] emphasis
that people do not need to worry about the cell phone radiation. Also, the two significant colors used
in the visual is green and yellow. Green color tend to mind feelings of calm[3] and it gives a sense of
safety. By giving green as the background color for Non ionizing radiation, viewers can get author s
point that the non ionizing radiation is safety for human s health and their application can be used with
full confidence. Therefore, putting cell phone under non ionizing radiation is a metaphor that emphasis
the radiation from cell phone will not hurt human health. In contrast, bright color can cause viewers
attention. By using the bright yellow color to be the

Favorite Christian Song
Do you ever feel sad and need an uplifting song to listen to? You should listen to Greater. One of my
favorite Christian songs is Greater by MercyMe. It is my favorite Christian song because it is a
positive song and it has a good message. First, Greater is my favorite Christian song because it is a
great positive song. For example, it tells you that you are great just how you are. Secondly, You are
holy, righteous, and redeemed, is a good example of a positive song. In fact, this song has a good
uplifting beat. In conclusion, Greater is the best Christian song because of its positive, and uplifting
tune. Next, Greater is a wonderful Christian song because it teaches us a great message. An example is

My Experience In The Game
On the second meeting on November 29, I arrived at 6 pm. The owner opened shop very similar to the
first time I went there. [It seemed as if she had a routine going]. The same host, Josh, was there again,
and introduced us to the game and took some time to explain it again especially to the new comers.
Regina, George, and Michael were the returnees [they seemed to be regulars each week at the game
nights]. Emma and Noah were the new people. This is the first time I actually will be playing the
game, and I still wasn t comfortable what was going on. I hadn t even read Rich Dad, Poor Dad yet.
In my first game, I chose the profession of an airplane pilot. The game has an example of financial
data for doctors, teachers, mechanics, etc, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The game continued on. The next time it came back to me, it would be my last time to roll two dices.
Unfortunately, I rolled a two, and had to downsize. It meant I lost my job and I had to skip my turn the
next round.
Two rounds later, it came back to me and I rolled only a single dice and got a two. I landed on a
Paycheck.
This is how the game progressed. When I landed on the blue Market space, I decided to buy real
estate. I had landed on each of the main spots at least once, except for the Baby space. All of the time,
if I landed on the Opportunity space, I decided to go with Small deals. When I landed on Doodads,
they were unexpected expenses that popped up, which I had to pay for. They could be expenses for
large electronics, appliance purchases, bills, or other surprise costs. When I landed on the Market
space of the Opportunities space, I had to decide whether I would want to invest or pass it up.
In between turns, we were eating food, drinking beverages, and talking stories to each other about how
we each got involved. [Clearly my attention was not in the game]. Though I got a chance to talk to
others, I wanted to interview the host, Josh. I told him about my assignment, showed him the
permission letter and he agreed to do the interview.

Content: Group one presented over Williams Syndrome. Williams Syndrome is a genetic condition
that is caused by a deletion of 26 28 genes on chromosome seven. The more genes deleted, the more
severe the characteristics will be. The deletion is also present from conception due to an abnormality
of the egg or sperm cell. The syndrome is named after John C. Williams. However, Alois Beuren is
also credited for research on Williams, which is why it used to be referred to as Williams Beuren
Syndrome. Williams occurs in less than 20,000 people in the United States! That s incredibly rare! It is
also interesting to know that the disorder affects males and females equally. Some key characteristics

It was also interesting to see the support groups and foundations of Williams Syndrome across the
world including places like New Zealand, Australia, Hungary, and South Africa.
Process: I think group one was well organized and spoke extremely well. I enjoyed their presentation.
I liked the presentation overview in the beginning that explained what we would be introduced to and
who would be speaking, this was a great organizational touch! I loved the first overview video the
group showed. It explained the syndrome wonderfully and was interesting to watch. I like how Tatum
pointed to the chromosome picture and explained the crossover. However, I think she should have
turned the other way so her voice would have projected to the entire class. She also did a great job
with the pronunciation of all of her names and terms. I like that she took the time to perfect this detail.
I also liked how she bolded the main points of her slides. It was a great way to make those points
salient. Karlee also spoke well and I liked how she defined affinity and circumlocataion. I did not like
how she was the only one wearing jeans. She looked great, but I think she should have worn dress
pants to match the rest of her group. Sydney did well, however, I think her portion was too brief. For
example, I think she should have given examples over the different

. These creatures are not dangerous to humans, they are just animals who hunt other animals. This has
become established knowledge, since it has been a never ending goal to bring the wolves back and
help them flourish as they did in the early nineteenth century (Coleman, 2004). I do think that instead
of exterminating the wolf in Durham, we should find it, if it exists, and add a tracking device. It would
be a huge stepping stone in the study of this animal. This could enhance our knowledge on the species
and may even help us form an idea on how to successfully repopulate the states with the species.
Instead of the dark and biased article against the big bad wolf, this piece should take its place. The
negative feelings addressed in the article need to be replaced with positive feelings because this would
be a huge accomplishment for us if it was in fact a wolf that was sited. It would mean all of our past
acts, research, and hard work is finally starting to pay off. Wolves would finally start coming back to
the areas where they never should have disappeared

Parenting Teenage Girls Rhetorical Analysis
Parenting Teenage Girls is a podcast that informs the listener about difficult subjects with girls. The
author states that way we view teenage girls is wrong and that we negatively reflect onto how teenage
girls act. Many times, the way we view girls are negative, from the way they dress, to the way they
act, to the way feel. The point of this paper is to describe what the podcast was about, the key concepts
of the podcast, and one thing learned about the topic.
Summary
This podcast takes an thought provoking take on how we talk about girls. It describes how we talk
about girls in such a way that we automatically set them up to fail. By teaching girls that they can be
too sexual, or too prude, we miss what the point about what a girl wants and wishes are. An
fascinating way the speaker talks about how to bring up the issues is to bring up the subject while
watching a show or during a car ride. She encourages parents to make the conversations quick but
allowing the conversation to open up so that they can happen.

is all in how we present them. Damour also explains that as parents we cannot become defensive when
a child points out their flaws. Instead, the best way to react is to admit it and to apologize when it is

Effects Of Globalization In Tanzania
Tanzania Globalization

Tanzania Globalization In this paper i will write about the effect that globalization has had on the
country of Tanzania. When globalization made its way to Tanzania it became worse and worse for the
citizens there. Tanzania is place with an abundance of land and the western people that came to the
country took advantage of that.
History Before the people of Tanzania were introduced to globalization, they have been living in this
country for thousands of years. The country is on the eastern side of the continent. Archeologist have
found evidence of early inhabitants by studying the paintings on the rocks made by the early ancestors
of the country. The paintings would portray the people hunting and dancing. They would find these
paintings all around, inside caves that they believe were used to make tools for hunting and under
huge rocks.(Taylor Francis group, 2010)But Soon after the people of Tanganyika were used as slaves
and as cheap labor to make products for industrial Europe.
Before gaining their independence they were under the control of Portugal but that changed for a
while, they were apart of German territory until WW1 and were given to British rule where they
eventually gained their independence in 1961. The two countries of Tanganyika and Zanzibar became
one country name Tanzania.(Zoom Tanzania, 2017) Even though there are over 120 tribes, and over

My Personal Experience Of God
Describe your personal experience of God and the understanding of God you derive from biblical,
theological and historical sources. I was born in South Korea between my father who was skeptical
and my mother who was faithful for believing God in the Korean Methodist Church. For this reason, it
was natural for me to attend a Korean Methodist church. At that time, I did not know what the church
is doing and why I should attend the church, but what I learned about church was what I am redeemed
by Jesus Christ through God s love in the bible class. The church was just a place where I could meet
friends, rather than understanding who God is. Nevertheless, someday, I recognized what I have a
curiosity about who God is through My mother s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, he was crucified because of pardoning our sin. I know this stories about Jesus, but, at that
time, Jesus existentially came to me as the incarnation. I realized that Jesus Christ is my lord but also
sincere friend as he came down to Zacchaeus in the plan of God. This is my experience of and
understanding God and God s love.
What is your understanding of humanity and the human need for divine grace? I believe that human
beings, who have the image of God, are the best creature in the world. Therefore, they can
instinctually recognize the existence of God and have capacities to choose somethings and to create
somethings creatively. For John Wesley, human beings are created by God in the image of God, which
means that they have similar characteristics to God. Scott J. Jones insists, we share God s nature in
that we are immortal spirits who have various divine capacities: understanding, freedom of the will,
and affections. In this view, in the beginning, the human beings have capacities not only to understand
God in the communication between God and them, but also to choose and do anything which they
want. However, at the Fall, their characteristics given by God became malfunctioned by Adam s
exploiting their free will not obey God, but disobey God, which generates the original sin. John
Wesley explains about this in his sermon The New Birth, The natural consequence of this is that
everyone descended from him

Teenage Wasteland Theme
For ages, people are taught the ways to a happy and successful life, which often include love, family,
and belonging to a community. No matter their background, people will always have a need for a
sense of belonging, and contemporary writers give insight on situations and complications americans
may face. Two common themes, include the need for a connection in family, community, or love leads
to stubbornness and the questioning of societal effect on themselves. Some stories focus on one, and
some the intersection of these effects. Anne Tyler s Teenage Wasteland shows the ignorance of an

Love From First Sight Essay
Love from First Sight
Is there anyone who did not have Love in his life? Love is one the most powerful words that we could
hear and it is an important element in our life. It is the first feeling that you have been treated by since
you were born and opened your eyes. Could you count how many love words that you heard in your
life? I do not believe you can because of how many times it has been said to you by your parents or
relatives. The first people who love in your life are your parents. They loved you before you were born
and they had all that much of love since they loved each other and decided to have a son or daughter. I
lived in a society that did not believe in love before marriage. Even the marriages had to be in the
traditional way. Our society believes that love only comes after marriage which is something I
strongly disagree with. I believe that marriage has to be after a relationship in which both side feel that
they have found the right person. I dreamed many times to be in love with a woman that can
understand me more than myself and knew how I felt. I do not want to destroy myself because of the
criticisms of our society. All the challenges by society made me think and ask myself if there is
anyone that had the same feelings that I had? Was there anyone who believed in love from first sight
in our society? Was it real or was just something of our imagination? I believe in love from first sight
now more than ever. It is real and exists and it happens

Coronary Artery Calcium Essay
It is a non invasive tool for the detection and quantification of coronary artery calcium (CAC), a
marker for atherosclerosis. The presence and extent of CAC correlates with the overall magnitude of
coronary atherosclerotic plaque burden and with the development of subsequent coronary events,
CAC occurs only in the setting of atherosclerosis, and is a better index of global atherosclerotic
burden than stenosis severity (Budoff, et al.,2009). Coronary calcium scans use a special X ray test
called computed tomography (CT) to check for the build up of calcium in plaque on the walls of the
arteries of the heart (coronary arteries). This test is used to check for heart disease in an early stage
and to determine how severe it is, .Also the Coronary calcium scans are also called cardiac calcium

A Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor
First, the identification of a licensed chemical dependency counselor would suffice at the moment. A
licensed chemical dependency counselor are counselors that specialize in identifying and treating
addictive behaviors that are maladaptive, altered from cognitive imbalance, and from physiological
discrepancies, or frequent intoxication to achieve homeostasis or functionality to some extent. In other
words, licensed chemical dependency counselors establish and implement treatments to help people
cure their addictions from substances which they are chemically dependent on. Second, the nature of
chemical dependency is to be acknowledged. The nature of chemical dependency is not very well
understood by human population. Many people see addictions as diseases, immoral behaviors or sins,
as maladaptive behaviors, and some may view such substance dependence as out of control behaviors
as well. However, chemical or substance dependency is a mental issue. The mind tells the body that it
needs a certain substance to function, it is a craving that is difficult for the body to ignore, and the
body cannot function until such a need is met. The change in behaviors, mood and conscious
motivates the mind further to continue finding ways to meet this need. Therefore, there is not only an
addiction, but a chemical dependency issue as well. It is strong and difficult to defeat. It is strong
enough that it may cause some people to conduct criminal activities or infringe upon the rights and

Marc Brown Research Paper
Marc Tolon Brown was born three days after Thanksgiving on November 25, 1945. Marc Brown was
first exposed to the art of storytelling as child growing up in Erie, Pennsylvania. He had three sisters,
with whom he would sit and listen to many stories that his grandmother would tell. Some of these
stories were intended to inspire her grandchildren. Some were told to teach, and many stories were
told for comfort. No matter the reason, these stories had a long lasting impact on Marc, and his
childhood relationship with his grandmother was vital to his career as a writer.

Changing Divorce Laws Essay
Changing Divorce Laws
In 1995, Statistics Canada data shows that 30% of marriages split (McGovern). Since the 1960 s,
marriage and divorce have been undergoing profound changes which have altered the meaning of
marriage, the chances of its ending in divorce and the circumstances attached to marriage. These
changes have made it easier for couples to obtain a divorce due to the changing laws and changing
morals of society. The changes include three new grounds needed to prove marital breakdown, such as
your spouse committing adultery, your spouse causing mental or physical cruelty or a separation of a
year it was previously three years. Divorce also impacts the family as a whole, not only the children
but also the two parties ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Monogamy was out, free love thrived, and divorce represented freedom. Enough people wanted
divorce by the late 1960 s that the pressure was on to change the law.
After long and bitter parliamentary debates, the federal Divorce Act was revised. Additional grounds
for divorce included desertion, imprisonment, or separation for at least three years plus marital
offences of physical and mental cruelty. The new law eliminated the need to appear in court in most
cases often the most personally humiliating experience in the older legal procedure. The law later
changed again in 1985, where it eased off yet again, to allow divorces after only a year s separation.
The broad trend in Canada was to make divorce easier. It was accomplished by making it less fault
oriented where most divorce applications to the courts are no longer contested which eliminates the
need for a formal court hearing where both parties testify and ask for different things. With no fault
splits in place, the social stigma of divorce shrank. As more people divorced the stigma weakened
further. The cycle continued while the divorce rate soared. In 1951, there had been only one divorce
for every 24 marriages, by 1987, one couple divorced every two couples that married (McGovern). In
1993, there were 78 000 divorces across Canada, compared to about 11 000 in 1968 before the new
divorce laws came into

Influence Of Cognitive Biases On Decisions
The influence of cognitive biases on decisions Society once had a conjecture that only discriminatory
people used stereotypes, however, studies in unconscious bias now reveal that we all are guilty of
using stereotypes, all the time, without knowing it. Finally, the antagonist of equality has been found,
and it is us. With a limited perspective, we all have a bias view of the world, this is because we are
only capable of hearing, seeing, and reading what is around us. A definitive version of reality is not
subject to one person. Our position in society helps inform our world view, such as, our race, class,
gender, religion, and culture, impacting how we view, respond and react to every experience. Often
times, decision makers or not aware of their bias, which can effect the decisions being made. To begin,
I will define stereotyping as it is expressed in modern society and the impact of mass media, then I
will explain the process of storing stereotypes in the brain, I will give a theory of why man kind
stereotypes, and then explain how it effects decision making. Stereotyping is one of many cognitive
bias, that allows us to quickly identify strangers as friends or enemies, and with the use of stereotypes,
we classify others as we interact with them, allowing us to know the proper way to respond
(Lebowitz). The scientific definition of stereotyping is; an exaggerated belief, image or distorted truth

Different Types of Intellectual Property Rights
Patents are legal titles granting the owner the exclusive right to make commercial use of an invention.
To qualify for patent protection, inventions must be new, non obvious, and commercially applicable.
The term of protection is usually limited to 20 years, after which the invention moves into public
domain. The patent system is one of the oldest and most traditional forms of IPRs protection. Almost
all manufacturing industries make use of the patent system to protect inventions from being copied by
competing firms. Since the early 1980s, patents have also been granted for agricultural biotechnology
products and processes and for certain aspects of computer software.
As an adjunct to the patent system, some countries have introduced utility models (or petty patents).
The novelty criteria for utility models are less stringent and are typically granted for small,
incremental innovations. Their term of protection is far shorter than for regular invention patents
(typically four to seven years). Similarly, industrial designs protect the ornamental features of
consumer goods such as shoes or cars. To be eligible for protection, designs must be original or new.
They are generally conferred for a period of five to fifteen years.
Trademarks are words, signs, or symbols that identify a certain product or company. They seek to
offer consumers the assurance of purchasing what they intend to

Iron Defiance Anemia
Abstract
Iron deficiency is the most common type of anemia, along with the most advanced stage of iron
deficiency. Iron deficiency anemia occurs when there is low amount of iron in the body, and without
iron the bone marrow cannot make hemoglobin for the red blood cells. Iron deficiency occurs mostly
in women and children, but can also affect the elderly. Regardless of gender or age, anemia has been
identified in numerous studies as an independent risk factor for morbidity and mortality (In
developing countries, children and teens are more at risk for developing this type of anemia because
both need iron filled diets to help their growth (Cairo, Silva, Bustani, Marques, 2014). Anemia should
be tested and treated according to the type ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also pregnancies and menstrual cycles is another reason why anemia can occur. When menstruating, a
women body loses blood and sometimes that blood contains iron. This can cause a negative iron
balance, and can lead to anemia. Iron deficiency is more common in girls mainly because of the
pregnancies and the menstruating cycles. Pregnancies can lead to anemia, because the body is
supporting two lives, and when the child is born the body loses blood that contain iron which leads to
improper iron balance leading to iron deficiency anemia (Cairo, Silva, Bustani, Marques,

Farming Is The Nation s Most Important And Noblest...
When you think about farming what comes to mind? Do you think about older gentlemen on tractors,
or young boys helping there father feed the family herd. Maybe you even think about thousands of
acres of corn land in Iowa. Whatever it is I can assure you farming is the nation s most important and
noblest profession. Today farming is seen as a dangerous profession, that s not necessarily the case, it
is true that many people are injured and even killed on farms each year. In 2012 alone three hundred
and seventy four farmers and farm workers lost there lives due to work related injuries, and every day
a staggering one hundred and sixty seven agriculture workers suffer a work related injury (CDC
2012). But why so many? The simple answer is that when it comes to farm safety many people are
ignorant. I myself am guilty of not using the proper safety equipment or even removing a safety shield
to make things run more efficient. I think we have it hardwired in our brains that bad things only
happen to other people, and nothing bad could happen to ourselves, that s not the case. I think that if
farmers will take the time to slow down and be more careful and think things through we will cut
down drastically on injuries. If you think about it many farmers are constantly stressed, they simply
don t have enough hours in the day to accomplish all the tasks at hand so they begin to rush which
causes shortcuts to be made which can potentially lead to injury or death.

Pros And Cons Of False Confessions
People know that false confessions are possible, however, most do not understand the severity. 66% of
people said that if a person signed a confession, they were most likely guilty (Henkel, Coffman,
Dailey, 2008). Only 11% disagreed that a person might confess to a crime they did not commit.
Furthermore, only 42% of participants said that the police might lie about the police having evidence.
Henkel, Coffman, and Dailey report an overwhelming majority of the participants claimed that they
would never confess during an interrogation. What may lead to a false confession? One major factor is
not understanding Miranda rights. Adults may have some difficulty understanding and appreciating
their Miranda rights, but have a general idea of their rights. Conversely, juveniles have a much more
difficult time comprehending their rights. The current standard for competency is a having a basic
understanding of Miranda rights (Grisso et al., 2003). However, Viljoen, Zapf, and Roesch (2007)
found that 58% of defendants ages 11 13, 33.3% of defendants ages 14 15, and 7.8% of defendants
ages 16 17 did not meet this standard. Moreover, if the defendant must also appreciate the rights, 78%
of defendants ages 11 13, 62.7% of defendants ages 14 15, and 35.3% of defendants ages 16 17 did
not meet these standards. Comprehension of Miranda rights is critical, as one may falsely confess if
they do not understand and utilize their rights. Age also changes how the juvenile responds to the

Social Media And Digital Technology

We always hear that technology has changed the way people live by making peoples life easier and
interesting. Scientist, engineers, etc. are always developing new technologies to make one s life easier,
social media and websites regularly update their applications increasing ease of use and becoming
more users friendly. The creation and evolution of social media and digital technology has opened up
new avenues for people to communicate, travel and obtain entertainment. Cell phones, internet, and e
mailing are some of the few technologies that have improved the way we communicate. Of course,
our grandparents did not have access to these technologies when they were our age. Back then people
sent messages through the mail in order to communicate with family, friends, and loved ones that
lived in different areas. In the modern era, it is so much easier to connect with our family, friends, and
loved ones using the internet, our cell phones by sending them e mails or an SMS, they will receive
these messages very fast and they are going to be able to respond instantly. According to the survey
results 95.06% of students send and receive more than 20 messages a day using some kind of

Don T Text And Drive Analysis
According to dmv, When you choose to text and drive, you re threatening every single driver around
you and placing more value on that text message than yourself and your fellow drivers. In the video
Close to Home by AT T there is a car crash caused by the mom having a conversation and looking at
the phone. Moreover, in the video Don t Text and Drive by PSA Central a car crash is caused by a
teenage girl for texting and driving. Overall, both videos were persuasive because it used logical,
ethical, and emotional appeals.
First of all, in the video Close To Home logical appeals are used. For example, distraction is the cause
and it brings effects that end up in casualties. Moreover, the mother got distracted by looking at the
phone because she was curious about the likes her daughter got in a post. She was also having a
conversation with her daughter. The effect of the distraction brought as a result a car accident.
Consequently, logical appeals appear in the video Don t text and Drive because of a distraction. The
reasons of distractions of the was a phone and a text message. In other words, her eyes is like a
magnet to the phone. The teenage girl causes the car accident by texting and reading a text message
while driving. She as her friends seemed under 18. Basically, a phone and a message while driving can

Descartes s Discourse On Method
In his Discourse on Method, Rene Descartes asserts that all human beings are equal in their ability to
reason and that any differences in opinion are not a result of a difference in ability to reason, but in the
application of the reasoning. Descartes begins his argument for this claim by stating that rational
thought and reason is what separates humans from animals, and that if all people have this ability to
reason, then that must be the distinguishing feature of humanity. He goes on to explain that while
individuals may differ within a species in regard to their non essential qualities, they will not differ in
the species distinguishing feature. This rule accounts for the diversity within humanity as a species
(such as differing hair colors, heights, and weights) while equalizing humanity s ability to reason.
From these premises, Descartes concludes that all humans must have an equal ability to reason and
that differences in thought are merely a result of differences in the application of the individual s
reasoning. In Part V of his Discourse, Descartes continues his argument for reasoning being the
essence of humanity by arguing that non human animals and machines cannot reason, and therefore
reasoning must be solely attributed to humans. Descartes presents two tests to determine whether or
not a being is human or non human, both based on the adaptability of the being s responses. He first
asserts that since machines and non human animals cannot communicate via spoken

Legion of Honor Essay
Throughout different time periods and civilizations come many different types of art that would never
be comparable to those of another time or place. There are also the pieces that come from a
completely different time and place, but yet they can still be compared to one another. The Torso of a
God (Egyptian, New Kingdom, Dynasty 18, last decade of the reign of Amenhotep III, Granodiorite,
1359 1349 B.C.) and the Statue of Asklepios (Greek, Hellenistic period, Pentelic Marble, 2nd century
B.C.) are two sculptures made hundreds of years apart, yet they both display many similarities and
show how art is constantly changing whilst keeping the same core ideas. The Torso of a God is a
sculpture located at the Legion of Honor museum in San ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The statue shows the God in a good light and as a muscular and fit being, but at the same time is
portrayed in an extremely unrealistic way. The Statue of Asklepios is a classic Greek sculpture that
portrays a person of the most perfect and athletic form. The piece is of a man standing beautifully
while draped in a toga. The toga is draped over his left shoulder and cuts across to the right side of his
body near his lower abdomen and then continues to cover his legs until his ankle. The toga also is
draped over the pieces entire back. The piece is missing his head, his left arm and both his right foot
and almost its entire right arm. The piece has a smooth, but not glossy, exterior in all of the areas
except for the parts that have been broken off. Asklepios is portrayed as an incredible fit and beautiful
being. The abdomen is extremely muscular and shows off the miraculous fitness of the model. The
toga has many wrinkles, creating a lot of shadow and darks and lights. It also is wrapped in a way that
is both loose and tight in different areas of the sculpture. It is tied right next to the left pectoral and the
left armpit. This piece emphasizes the muscular body of this man while at the same time portraying
him standing in such a nonchalant way through the curvature and relaxed look of the figure. And
unlike the Torso of a God, this piece clearly shows movement through the shape of the body and the
folds of the toga because

Should Be Allowed In Court Cases
Beside jurisdictional questions, I think we have three main arguments on the injunction fee s issue.
They are 1) the motion is not timely, 2) the statute does not allow for fees to be placed upon the State,
3) the injunction was not improperly granted. I would start off by mentioning that Idbeis v. Wichita
Surgical Specialists, P.A., 285 Kan. 485, 488, 173 P.3d 642, 646 (2007) does appear to be the main
case in this area of law, and beside Idbeis most of the other cases tend to be older, so some areas of
this topic do not seem to be covered well. I would also note that if fees were to be awarded, they
would only be able to get fees related to attempts to overturn the injunction and so say fees that were
done for the general case would not apply. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
§ 60 905, provides that a party seeking an injunction post a surety. This surety according to the statute
is used to pay damages. The State though is not required to pay a surety and I believe there is an
argument to be made that damages can only come for sureties. I would first mention that there is a
case that does somewhat counter this idea. Brady, 25 Kan. App. At 795 96. In Brady, the Court of
Appeals did imposed fees on a party that did not post a bond, because the court did not requirement
them to do so. Id. The Court did indicate that the State may need to post a surety, but this was dicta as
the State did not play a role in the case. I should note that attorney fees can only be required if there is
a clear and specific statutory provision. Idbeis, 285 Kan. at 488. The Kansas Supreme Court has
indicated that a party was entitled to recover if a bond was present. Alder v. City of Florence, 194 Kan.
104, 111, 397 P.2d 375, 381 (1964). Furthermore, the Court has also indicated that the bond itself it
the source of damages. Texas Const. Co. v. Hoisting Portable Engineers Local Union No. 101, 180
Kan. 393, 396, 304 P.2d 498, 500 (1956). An early Kansas case also found that a party could not
recover in an amount higher than the bound. Baker v. Craig, 127 Kan. 811, 275 P. 216, 217 modified,
128 Kan. 676, 280 P. 771 (1929). I think there is an argument to be made that because the statute does
not require Kansas to post a bond, that there is no source for damages to be paid under the

Blue Collar Brilliance And The Pursuit Of Happyness
Everyone has a dream, but not everyone has the courage to pursue their dream because of the fear of

Muccino discusses where dedication takes a person in life. In the article of Blue Collar Brilliance
Rose, discusses the life of two successful individuals who have no education but are very dedicated to
their work. The Pursuit of Happyness discuss the life of a struggling man who is not able to support

According to Keyton (2011), he defines communication is a process occurs between two parties

happens in middle of sending message could be reduced or affected the effectiveness of

process used by Kellogg s is sender, encoding, selecting a medium of transmission, target audience,

The Sociological Experiences Of High School And College...
Coming into college, one major thing I was excited for was the week of homecoming. In high school,
I always had the most spirit and this week was one of my favorites. That being said, I looked forward
to participating in the homecoming events this past fall football season. I gained from this experience
is that both high school and college homecomings are sociological events that can be compared in
many ways. The homecoming I am most familiar with is a high school homecoming. During the week,
students would practice agency meaning the freedom individuals have to choose and act (Witt, 5). If
you didn t want to participate in anything, people wouldn t force you to do it. Every day we would
have different theme to go with our overall theme for the week. By putting up posters the week before,
we used nonverbal communication, the use of gestures, facial expressions, and other visual images to
communicate (Witt, 53) to spread the word about upcoming days. By the end of the week, everyone
was ready to skip our last class and go to our infamous Pep Rally. At our Pep Rally you could see the
different subcultures, segment of society that shares a distinctive pattern of mores, folkways, and
values that differ from the pattern of the larger society (p.59) in the separation of the classes.

Fourth Episode Of San Junipero s Black Mirror
Science fiction has been defined differently over the years. The most recognizable characteristics are
science, technology, scientific method, disasters, and time travel. Science fiction is a genre found in

author on how they want to despite the use of science. In the fourth episode San Junipero of season
three of the sci fi series Black Mirror, the audience is introduced to a future world in which the

  • 2. Academic Clustering Paper 1. How did you select this research study to analyze? That is, what search terms did you use? What database did you use? What was your rationale for selecting this particular study to analyze over the others identified in the search results? What is the full reference for the study in APA format? When searching for research studies about Academic Clustering I used the SportDiscus through the University of North Florida s Database. Using the terms Athletes and Academic Clustering. I chose this article because I selected another one of their research studies and believe they provide a great deal of background information on the topic as well as great research that can be used to improve the academic experience of athletes. Fountain and Finley seem very well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What was the research question? (Some authors are more general and state only a purpose for the research study. If so, indicate the purpose.) The purpose of the study is to study academic clustering and race to determine whether it merits entrée into discussions that traditionally centered on graduate rates, academic fraud and academic support (2009, p.5). The three research questions they posed were; (1) Does academic clustering occur among ACC football players? (2) Is there a difference of clustering when considering White and Minority subgroups? (3) Are there multiple majors at these schools that exceed the threshold to be considered clustered?. 4. What were the source of the data collected? For example, who were the participants? What was the sample? What sites for research data collection were used? And/or What documents were studied? The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) consist of 12 schools at the time of this study in 2006. They used data from 11 out of the 12 schools and used 394 upperclassman football players from these schools. The sample contained 41.4% White players and 58.6% Minority players. The Effects Of Cell Phones And Other Electronic Devices Instead of obtaining information only through reading text, visual arguments provide more conveniences for viewers to understand the information by a quick glance at the given images, which are related to the main idea of the information. Compared with text information, in text visuals make the arguments to be more attractive and vivid, which can inspire readers to think and affect their ideas directly. This report will focus on two informative images Radiation from Cell Phones and Other Electronic Devices [2] and Graphic Science: A World of Food Delivered to America s Doorstep [1]. These two visuals are taken from Science American website and the author for both visuals is Mark Fischetti who is a senior editor at this website. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the image, the author uses lots of specific examples to show the sources and uses of radiation frequency in human daily life, such as mobile phones, TV Broadcast and wireless Data. By using things, which people are familiar with, to explain how different intensities of radiation work and how strong they are, this method makes scientific things to be easily understand by readers and raise readers emotional responses according to their own using experience. Appeal to pathos, the sense of familiarity causes people to connect the image information to their own experiences and be more interested about the author s idea. Especially, cell phone radiation using is a public concern because most people use cell phone frequently in their daily life. The idea of there is no threat [2] emphasis that people do not need to worry about the cell phone radiation. Also, the two significant colors used in the visual is green and yellow. Green color tend to mind feelings of calm[3] and it gives a sense of safety. By giving green as the background color for Non ionizing radiation, viewers can get author s point that the non ionizing radiation is safety for human s health and their application can be used with full confidence. Therefore, putting cell phone under non ionizing radiation is a metaphor that emphasis the radiation from cell phone will not hurt human health. In contrast, bright color can cause viewers attention. Regina, George, and Michael were the returnees [they seemed to be regulars each week at the game nights]. Emma and Noah were the new people. This is the first time I actually will be playing the game, and I still wasn t comfortable what was going on. I hadn t even read Rich Dad, Poor Dad yet. These creatures are not dangerous to humans, they are just animals who hunt other animals. I do think that instead of exterminating the wolf in Durham, we should find it, if it exists, and add a tracking device. It would be a huge stepping stone in the study of this animal. This could enhance our knowledge on the species and may even help us form an idea on how to successfully repopulate the states with the species. What is your understanding of humanity and the human need for divine grace? I believe that human beings, who have the image of God, are the best creature in the world. Therefore, they can instinctually recognize the existence of God and have capacities to choose somethings and to create somethings creatively. For John Wesley, human beings are created by God in the image of God, which means that they have similar characteristics to God. Scott J. Jones insists, we share God s nature in that we are immortal spirits who have various divine capacities: understanding, freedom of the will, and affections. In this view, in the beginning, the human beings have capacities not only to understand God in the communication between God and them, but also to choose and do anything which they want. Love is one the most powerful words that we could hear and it is an important element in our life. It is the first feeling that you have been treated by since you were born and opened your eyes. Could you count how many love words that you heard in your life? I do not believe you can because of how many times it has been said to you by your parents or relatives. The first people who love in your life are your parents. They loved you before you were born and they had all that much of love since they loved each other and decided to have a son or daughter. I lived in a society that did not believe in love before marriage. Even the marriages had to be in the traditional way. Our society believes that love only comes after marriage which is something I strongly disagree with. In other words, licensed chemical dependency counselors establish and implement treatments to help people cure their addictions from substances which they are chemically dependent on. Many people see addictions as diseases, immoral behaviors or sins, as maladaptive behaviors, and some may view such substance dependence as out of control behaviors as well. However, chemical or substance dependency is a mental issue. The mind tells the body that it needs a certain substance to function, it is a craving that is difficult for the body to ignore, and the body cannot function until such a need is met. The change in behaviors, mood and conscious motivates the mind further to continue finding ways to meet this need. Therefore, there is not only an addiction, but a chemical dependency issue as well. Monogamy was out, free love thrived, and divorce represented freedom. Enough people wanted divorce by the late 1960 s that the pressure was on to change the law. After long and bitter parliamentary debates, the federal Divorce Act was revised. Additional grounds for divorce included desertion, imprisonment, or separation for at least three years plus marital offences of physical and mental cruelty. The new law eliminated the need to appear in court in most cases often the most personally humiliating experience in the older legal procedure. The law later changed again in 1985, where it eased off yet again, to allow divorces after only a year s separation. The broad trend in Canada was to make divorce easier. It was accomplished by making it less fault oriented where most divorce applications to the courts are no longer contested which eliminates the need for a formal court hearing where both parties testify and ask for different things. With no fault splits in place, the social stigma of divorce shrank. As more people divorced the stigma weakened further. The cycle continued while the divorce rate soared. In 1951, there had been only one divorce for every 24 marriages, by 1987, one couple divorced every two couples that married (McGovern). • 26. Farming Is The Nation s Most Important And Noblest... When you think about farming what comes to mind? Do you think about older gentlemen on tractors, or young boys helping there father feed the family herd. Maybe you even think about thousands of acres of corn land in Iowa. Whatever it is I can assure you farming is the nation s most important and noblest profession. Today farming is seen as a dangerous profession, that s not necessarily the case, it is true that many people are injured and even killed on farms each year. In 2012 alone three hundred and seventy four farmers and farm workers lost there lives due to work related injuries, and every day a staggering one hundred and sixty seven agriculture workers suffer a work related injury (CDC 2012). But why so many? The simple answer is that when it comes to farm safety many people are ignorant. I myself am guilty of not using the proper safety equipment or even removing a safety shield to make things run more efficient. I think we have it hardwired in our brains that bad things only happen to other people, and nothing bad could happen to ourselves, that s not the case. I think that if farmers will take the time to slow down and be more careful and think things through we will cut down drastically on injuries. If you think about it many farmers are constantly stressed, they simply don t have enough hours in the day to accomplish all the tasks at hand so they begin to rush which causes shortcuts to be made which can potentially lead to injury or death. • 27. Pros And Cons Of False Confessions People know that false confessions are possible, however, most do not understand the severity. 66% of people said that if a person signed a confession, they were most likely guilty (Henkel, Coffman, Dailey, 2008). Only 11% disagreed that a person might confess to a crime they did not commit. Furthermore, only 42% of participants said that the police might lie about the police having evidence. Henkel, Coffman, and Dailey report an overwhelming majority of the participants claimed that they would never confess during an interrogation. What may lead to a false confession? One major factor is not understanding Miranda rights. Adults may have some difficulty understanding and appreciating their Miranda rights, but have a general idea of their rights. Conversely, juveniles have a much more difficult time comprehending their rights. The current standard for competency is a having a basic understanding of Miranda rights (Grisso et al., 2003). However, Viljoen, Zapf, and Roesch (2007) found that 58% of defendants ages 11 13, 33.3% of defendants ages 14 15, and 7.8% of defendants ages 16 17 did not meet this standard. Moreover, if the defendant must also appreciate the rights, 78% of defendants ages 11 13, 62.7% of defendants ages 14 15, and 35.3% of defendants ages 16 17 did not meet these standards. Comprehension of Miranda rights is critical, as one may falsely confess if they do not understand and utilize their rights. Age also changes how the juvenile responds to the ... The creation and evolution of social media and digital technology has opened up new avenues for people to communicate, travel and obtain entertainment. Cell phones, internet, and e mailing are some of the few technologies that have improved the way we communicate. Of course, our grandparents did not have access to these technologies when they were our age. Back then people sent messages through the mail in order to communicate with family, friends, and loved ones that lived in different areas. In the modern era, it is so much easier to connect with our family, friends, and loved ones using the internet, our cell phones by sending them e mails or an SMS, they will receive these messages very fast and they are going to be able to respond instantly. • 31. Descartes s Discourse On Method In his Discourse on Method, Rene Descartes asserts that all human beings are equal in their ability to reason and that any differences in opinion are not a result of a difference in ability to reason, but in the application of the reasoning. Descartes begins his argument for this claim by stating that rational thought and reason is what separates humans from animals, and that if all people have this ability to reason, then that must be the distinguishing feature of humanity. He goes on to explain that while individuals may differ within a species in regard to their non essential qualities, they will not differ in the species distinguishing feature. This rule accounts for the diversity within humanity as a species (such as differing hair colors, heights, and weights) while equalizing humanity s ability to reason. From these premises, Descartes concludes that all humans must have an equal ability to reason and that differences in thought are merely a result of differences in the application of the individual s reasoning. In Part V of his Discourse, Descartes continues his argument for reasoning being the essence of humanity by arguing that non human animals and machines cannot reason, and therefore reasoning must be solely attributed to humans. Descartes presents two tests to determine whether or not a being is human or non human, both based on the adaptability of the being s responses. He first asserts that since machines and non human animals cannot communicate via spoken ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are also the pieces that come from a completely different time and place, but yet they can still be compared to one another. The Torso of a God (Egyptian, New Kingdom, Dynasty 18, last decade of the reign of Amenhotep III, Granodiorite, 1359 1349 B.C.) and the Statue of Asklepios (Greek, Hellenistic period, Pentelic Marble, 2nd century B.C.) are two sculptures made hundreds of years apart, yet they both display many similarities and show how art is constantly changing whilst keeping the same core ideas. The statue shows the God in a good light and as a muscular and fit being, but at the same time is portrayed in an extremely unrealistic way. The Statue of Asklepios is a classic Greek sculpture that portrays a person of the most perfect and athletic form. The piece is of a man standing beautifully while draped in a toga. The toga is draped over his left shoulder and cuts across to the right side of his body near his lower abdomen and then continues to cover his legs until his ankle. The toga also is draped over the pieces entire back. The piece is missing his head, his left arm and both his right foot and almost its entire right arm. The piece has a smooth, but not glossy, exterior in all of the areas except for the parts that have been broken off. Asklepios is portrayed as an incredible fit and beautiful being. The abdomen is extremely muscular and shows off the miraculous fitness of the model. The toga has many wrinkles, creating a lot of shadow and darks and lights. It also is wrapped in a way that is both loose and tight in different areas of the sculpture. It is tied right next to the left pectoral and the left armpit. This piece emphasizes the muscular body of this man while at the same time portraying him standing in such a nonchalant way through the curvature and relaxed look of the figure. • 33. Should Be Allowed In Court Cases Beside jurisdictional questions, I think we have three main arguments on the injunction fee s issue. They are 1) the motion is not timely, 2) the statute does not allow for fees to be placed upon the State, 3) the injunction was not improperly granted. I would start off by mentioning that Idbeis v. Wichita Surgical Specialists, P.A., 285 Kan. 485, 488, 173 P.3d 642, 646 (2007) does appear to be the main case in this area of law, and beside Idbeis most of the other cases tend to be older, so some areas of this topic do not seem to be covered well. I would also note that if fees were to be awarded, they would only be able to get fees related to attempts to overturn the injunction and so say fees that were done for the general case would not apply. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... § 60 905, provides that a party seeking an injunction post a surety. This surety according to the statute is used to pay damages. The State though is not required to pay a surety and I believe there is an argument to be made that damages can only come for sureties. I would first mention that there is a case that does somewhat counter this idea. Brady, 25 Kan. App. At 795 96. In Brady, the Court of Appeals did imposed fees on a party that did not post a bond, because the court did not requirement them to do so. Id. The Court did indicate that the State may need to post a surety, but this was dicta as the State did not play a role in the case. I should note that attorney fees can only be required if there is a clear and specific statutory provision. Idbeis, 285 Kan. at 488. The Kansas Supreme Court has indicated that a party was entitled to recover if a bond was present. Alder v. City of Florence, 194 Kan. 104, 111, 397 P.2d 375, 381 (1964). Furthermore, the Court has also indicated that the bond itself it the source of damages. Texas Const. Co. v. Hoisting Portable Engineers Local Union No. 101, 180 Kan. 393, 396, 304 P.2d 498, 500 (1956). An early Kansas case also found that a party could not recover in an amount higher than the bound. Baker v. Craig, 127 Kan. 811, 275 P. 216, 217 modified, 128 Kan. 676, 280 P. 771 (1929). In high school, I always had the most spirit and this week was one of my favorites. That being said, I looked forward to participating in the homecoming events this past fall football season. I gained from this experience is that both high school and college homecomings are sociological events that can be compared in many ways. The homecoming I am most familiar with is a high school homecoming. During the week, students would practice agency meaning the freedom individuals have to choose and act (Witt, 5). If you didn t want to participate in anything, people wouldn t force you to do it. Every day we would have different theme to go with our overall theme for the week. By putting up posters the week before, we used nonverbal communication, the use of gestures, facial expressions, and other visual images to communicate (Witt, 53) to spread the word about upcoming days. By the end of the week, everyone was ready to skip our last class and go to our infamous Pep Rally. At our Pep Rally you could see the different subcultures, segment of society that shares a distinctive pattern of mores, folkways, and values that differ from the pattern of the larger society (p.59) in the separation of the classes.
