Information Gathering for Business Analysis
Information gathering and Accounting/Business techniques
Information gathering
Lucky Cement is listed on Karachi Stock exchange therefore getting information was never really a
big problem. As primary data LCL's own website http://www.lucky–cement.com was a big source of
information for me, but I had to look into other secondary sources like company's annual reports,
newspaper, internet etc to make my analysis more comprehensive
I used the following secondary sources to gather my information which enabled me to get the broad
view of Lucky Cement's Business and it helped me to make a better analysis of Lucky Cement's
Performance.

For my research and analysis project the analysis of the business and financial performance of
Lucky Cement Limited in terms of business and accounting techniques I have used PEST analysis,
SWOT analysis, Porter 5 forces and Ratio analysis.
Ratio Analysis
Ratio Analysis is a helpful tool to evaluate and interpret the financial performance of a company. It
includes calculation of different ratios from the information available on the financial statements to
identify different trends in the performance of the company and the reasons behind them. Ratios are
also used to assess the management's performance and make predictions whether or not the firm is
meeting its business and financial objectives from stakeholders' point of view
Porter's Five Forces
Porter's five forces framework examines the competitive environment in which a company operates
and is an industry and business analysis model by Michael E. Porter The main advantage of this
model is to evaluate the competition and differentiation in cement sector.
SWOT Analysis
SWOT analysis suggests ways in which the organisation can profit from strengths and opportunities
and defend itself against weaknesses and threats.
Variables that SWOT uses affect the company internally and externally where internal factors being

Business Impact Analysis
This is an essential organization's business component that composes of a continuance plan for the
firm (Hiles, 2002). This plan includes planning components that aid in developing strategies for
mitigating risks, and an exploratory component to indicate and identify any vulnerability.
In this analysis account, the researcher is going to discuss and subsequently describe methods for
establishing components priorities by determining components dependencies and reliance in both
business continuity and disaster recovery.
According to (Cardoza, 2006), in developing a business impact analysis, we always go through ...

Work Recovery Time (WRT) – this is the second phase of MTD, it happens mostly on the third day
of MTD.
Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) – this is the system recovery time, it is the available time to
recover disrupted resources and systems.
Recovery Point Objective (RPO) – this is the extent or amount of data loss that a critical business
system can tolerate.
The above are the recovery time framework that will assist in calculating the time and form through
which a business will evolve before collapsing (Hiles, 2002).
To do a business impact analysis, the element of component dependency arises. Components
dependencies are the interdependency between the exploratory components and the planning
components. With the planning component, the organization will dwell much on the minimizing and
mitigating the risks that will lead to business disruption, while the exploratory component will dwell
so much on discovering and identification of vulnerable areas within the business. Their dependency
is as important as the two areas. For an organization to mitigate the risks, it should be aware of the
areas that are more vulnerable to risks, and if an organization identifiers the risk then it will have to
look for ways to reduce its occurrence or the impacts. Mostly the planning happens after the
exploratory component (Cardoza, 2006).

Staples: Business Analysis
The 20/20 plan primary focuses on both the short term and long–term development and success of
Staples as a company. The short–term plan involves evolving the company by following the "four
key priorities to transform Staples," These priorities include accelerating the mid–market growth in
the North American market, by narrowing down what is truly needed within the North American
markets to best maximize profits in the most efficient manner, focusing on ways to drive profit
improvement and cost reduction across the entire company, and focusing primary on the North
American market since it provides the most profit among all the other markets.("Staples(SPLS)10–k

status as a force in the crowded and very competitive retail, and office supplies industry. And

For most of its history, Ma Bell (AT&T) functioned as a legally sanctioned and regulated monopoly.
When AT&T entered the global arena, the dynamics of classical competition changed and AT&T had
to reshape and change their strategy to meet the new challenges of a global economy.
1.2 Strategic position of AT&T in 1994
After the divestiture of 1984 – 1988, CEO Robert (Bob) E. Allen started to rationalise the business.
He broke up the giant functional organisation into 21 manageable business units to help drive
responsibilities and accountability. Up to 1994 Allen reorganised AT&T 's crown jewel to be its core
telecommuncations network and his strategy was to focus AT&T 's expansion only on the areas
which enhanced this core. Allen explained, " Everything we are doing is designed to put more traffic
on our network, to enhance the value of our network."
With increasing competition, convergence of industries, deregulation and international trust laws,
Allen soon realised that this strategy had to change. The BU structure and strategy of 1989, did not
match the business needs for 1994 and the new millennium

A thorough analysis to reshape AT&T 's strategy was executed and this report contains its

Business Case Analysis
In this particular situation, from my perspective as the furniture manufacturer, I believe that
negotiation would be the best means by which to solve the problem with the store owner. By using
negotiation, the furniture store and my manufacturing business may be able to reconcile and
continue dealing with each other after we have resolved the issue. With negotiation, the tone is not
very formal, outside legal counsel is not required, and the parties to negotiation set their own terms,
making it generally more cost effective and efficient than other methods. By comparison, in the case
of arbitration or litigation, the proceedings are far more formal and expensive, the process takes
much longer, and in the case of litigation in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, due to the potential harm this holdup may cause, I would offer a formal apology to both
the store owner and the store's customers in this situation. An apology letter may calm the customers
down and may keep them motivated to remain on the waiting list. Since apology law protects this
from being seen as an admission of guilt in Ontario, this may help to facilitate reconciliation. Upon
negotiating, I would agree to offer some of the money that will be lost due to the breach of contract
while my business seeks out a new supplier. I would also assure that a written contract with the
supplier will be created so that the store owner can be assured that my business is making steps to
ensure that an issue such as this one will not occur again.
It's not likely that the furniture store would be able to fight my business "all the way to the Supreme
Court of Canada". The simple fact of the matter is that in any legal action, there is no inherent right
to the Supreme Court. Very few cases are heard by the Supreme Court, and they are often the ones
that deal with very serious injustices, and usually pertain to criminal matters. Thus, the Supreme
Court would be very unlikely to hear a breach of contract case involving two small businesses. As
well, a significant proportion of civil cases do not move past the Discovery stage and actually
proceed to trial. When a

Each web site will be customized to the customer and will portrait an attractive, professional image
to the target audience. When one considers that the average broadband user spends 48% of their
leisure time online (Watershed Publishing, 2007), the rationale for investing additional funds on
Internet advertising spending becomes obvious.
Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) systems have assisted many product oriented
corporations. Real time access to these systems will be provided to sales, marketing and
management personnel as needed. The ability to inform an automated manufacturing process of an
order will not only expedite the order, but provide valuable information for the re–ordering of
production materials.
Customer feedback is probably one of the best tools to judge the performance of an organization. To
facilitate this process, customized online forms will be provided. Additionally, personal data
assistants (PDA) will have access to these forms and will allow field sales and marketing
representatives to enter data while at the client location. Management personnel, armed with another
tool will be able to make more informed decisions.
There is nothing more frustrating for a sales representative than to wait for the daily morning phone
call for the day's appointments. Yet these events may change in a moment. Instant access to a
scheduling and appointment system will allow an area supervisor to direct his or her sales force.

Enterprise Analysis and Making a Business Case
Enterprise Analysis and Making a Business Case
Overview/Description
Enterprise analysis is a key knowledge area in the practice of business analysis. During enterprise
analysis, the business analyst identifies business opportunities, builds a business architecture
framework, and determines the best project investment path for the enterprise. From this, the
business analyst puts forward a business case, which provides an overall justification for the project.
In this course, learners will examine the collection of preproject or early project activities and
approaches for capturing the necessary view of the business to provide context to requirements and
functional design work for a given initiative and/or for long–term planning. This ... Show more

When performing strategic goal setting, the business analyst needs a framework for organizing
goals. Strategic goal setting activities include categorizing each goal as being one of four types:
Identifying customer goals helps you deal with how the customer views your company, and these
goals are usually measured in terms of customer satisfaction.
Financial goals are often ranked highest, and are the dollar–oriented and accounting outcomes the
company hopes to achieve.
Identifying goals relating to internal processes helps you compare your company's performance to
industry standards. This helps to determine in which areas the company must excel.
Innovation and improvement goals relate to product development, learning and skill development,
and the application of technology. They help you determine how your company can continue to
improve and create value.
Enterprise Analysis
Enterprise analysis is the evaluation of how proposed initiatives will be made across an entire
organization. It is vital for gaining an understanding of the potential business implications and risks
to the business. With this understanding, the business analyst can make clearer, more consistent
decisions for an enterprise.
During enterprise analysis, the business analyst collaborates with business unit managers, project
managers, and IT developers. Enterprise analysis is comprised of several activities:

Analysis: Anastretical Analysis And Fundamental Analysis...
Basically, there are two types of analysis; Technical analysis & Fundamental analysis. Technical
analysis is used by traders to track the price movement, whereas fundamental analysis is used by
investors. Today, we will start with fundamental analysis.
Fundamental analysis investigates the financial health of the company. It investigates it in two ways,
quantitatively as well as qualitatively. It is up to investor how much weightage he/she gives to
qualitative analysis & quantitative analysis.
Basically, fundamental analysis involves examination of financial data, management, business track
record, competition, earnings and growth etc. Some part of the analysis is tangible (measurable) &
some part is intangible. Analysis of tangible constituents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

You also need to look at qualitative factors that affect a company's performance. The qualitative
analysis can include the capability of the company's management, research and development
(R&D), products and services, competition etc. It is used to gain insight into a company and an edge
over investors who only use quantitative measures.
The core of every business is its people i.e, management. These people play an important role in the
growth of the company & they are sometimes responsible for the destruction of the company.
Hence, to check out the quality of management is one of the most important part of the qualitative
analysis.
Make sure that you are using qualitative analysis in conjunction with quantitative analysis. We all
have personal biases, and every analyst has some sort of bias. Hence using same data two people
may come up with different conclusions.
The Proper fundamental analysis offers excellent insights, but it can be time–consuming & require a
lot of data, that's why many individual investors avoid it, which is absolutely wrong. You must
devote some time for analysis & stop gambling, as the stock market is not a gamble. Financial
institutions perform fundamental analysis with ease because of availability of analysts and fund & as
a result, they receive a good return on investment(ROI) compared to retail

they are just starting up or if their business is not doing as well they hoped it would. Consultants can
help you in many ways, offering the breadth of their experience in business start–ups and
management to enable you to get off to the best possible start or to rescue a failing business that
nevertheless has good potential.

Apart from it, the business law in Australia has their own Guidelines and effective and consistent

Business Analysis
Introduction
The sources of new business ideas come from a variety of places. It could be from a problem that
needs to be solved from a consumer, existing knowledge in a business and a vision to improve, or
recognizing an alternative use for a new technology. While ideas are plentiful, the ability to bring
that idea to fruition, and create a profitable business from it, is much more difficult.
Examples
The example from chapter 4 was interesting on Elon Musk (Hisrich, Peters, & Shepherd, 2017). His
ability to build a business, sell it, then build a bigger business, gives insight that he is more
interested in solving large seemingly insurmountable, problems than holding on to a business. Musk
is not afraid of big risks. His legacy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Failure can appropriately encourage better choices in the future. His idea generation came in the
form of knowing the business he was getting into and combining another business to complement
the current venture. Without moving forward in his education and obtaining a job to learn how to dig
into financials of a company, he would not have had the opportunity to generate his idea. There is a
video that is shown in many continuing education classes on IDEO, which is a company in
California that takes an existing product and makes it better. Through observation, industry study,
and a variety of other methods, the innovation team that consists of a biologist, psychologist, MBA
graduate, and an engineer, among others, generates ideas through problem solving and creative
visualizing. They quickly boil down the ideas into something that can be manufactured and meets
core requirements of the customer to produce prototypes. They take the best ideas from the
prototypes and create the final recommendation. Their structured process to idea creation is
fascinating, from a diverse team aspect, as well as efficiency. It seems chaotic at times but
repeatedly they have produced products for existing companies such as the new shopping cart at
Fresh Market and Whole Foods, shoes that pump up and toothbrushes with varying bristle lengths.

Second Defense Business Analysis
Hello class! This week we are continuing with our discussion of our chosen paper topics. There is a
significant amount of information that needs to be covered this week, so let's get started.
First, let me explain how I envision my company being organized. For those of you that don't
remember, my company's name is 'Second Defense,' and it's a company that provides helicopter air
support to local law enforcement agencies that don't have the manning/money/other resources to
operate an air support unit within their department. For Second Defense, I am focusing mostly on
the Albuquerque New Mexico area, since it is an area within law enforcement that I am very
familiar.
My company will be organized into three main branches: Administration, Operations, and Support.
The Administration branch is responsible for the overall hierarchy of the company, such as the
owner and upper management. Upper management would coordinate between the branches and day

necessary because enterprise systems enables the company's resources to be planned. The main
resources of Second Defense are materials needed to operate the helicopter. I have no real
experience with helicopter maintenance, but from speaking with helicopter crew chiefs I've learned
that the entire engine needs to be disassembled and inspected every so many hours of operation. The
second application that is needed for my company to function efficiently is supply chain systems.
Again, this application is primarily used to ensure that the parts for the helicopter arrive when
needed. I see the Administration branch handling all or most of the enterprise applications within
Second Defense. Unlike the Administration branch, the Support branch is responsible for the

"The SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) framework is proposed by many as an
analytical tool which should be used to categorize significant environmental factors both internal
and external to the organization". When evaluating the strength of a business, the manager should be

One of the most important external threats is the political and legal threat. Political and legal threats
could be local or international. A business can be affected by any political or legal changes in any
country that it has a relation with. As a result, businesses should acquire political skills and be able
to analyses and predict changes and respond accordingly. Political skills empower businesses and
may improve their performance and provide them with an advantage in the market. "Companies are
beginning to recognize the impact of political issues upon international ventures". Weiner (1992).
According to Weiner (1992), political problems may be the result of wars, corruption, bad elections,
religious violence, government agencies, or revolutions. However, the most important external
factor that might negatively affect a company is the political instability. McConnell, Brue & Flynn
identify a stable political system as, "stable political system characterized by democratic principles,
internal order, the right of property ownership, the legal status of enterprise and the enforcement of
contracts." (P.616). Political instability that might affect a business could be local or boarder

This plan includes planning components that aid in developing strategies for mitigating risks, and an exploratory component to indicate and identify any vulnerability. In this analysis account, the researcher is going to discuss and subsequently describe methods for establishing components priorities by determining components dependencies and reliance in both business continuity and disaster recovery. To do a business impact analysis, the element of component dependency arises. Components dependencies are the interdependency between the exploratory components and the planning components. With the planning component, the organization will dwell much on the minimizing and mitigating the risks that will lead to business disruption, while the exploratory component will dwell so much on discovering and identification of vulnerable areas within the business. Their dependency is as important as the two areas. For an organization to mitigate the risks, it should be aware of the

The short–term plan involves evolving the company by following the "four key priorities to transform Staples," These priorities include accelerating the mid–market growth in the North American market, by narrowing down what is truly needed within the North American markets to best maximize profits in the most efficient manner, focusing on ways to drive profit improvement and cost reduction across the entire company, and focusing primary on the North American market since it provides the most profit among all the other markets.("Staples(SPLS)10–k report," 2017). When AT&T entered the global arena, the dynamics of classical competition changed and AT&T had to reshape and change their strategy to meet the new challenges of a global economy. 1.2 Strategic position of AT&T in 1994 After the divestiture of 1984 – 1988, CEO Robert (Bob) E. Allen started to rationalise the business. He broke up the giant functional organisation into 21 manageable business units to help drive responsibilities and accountability. Up to 1994 Allen reorganised AT&T 's crown jewel to be its core telecommuncations network and his strategy was to focus AT&T 's expansion only on the areas which enhanced this core. Allen explained, " Everything we are doing is designed to put more traffic on our network, to enhance the value of our network."

Business Case Analysis In this particular situation, from my perspective as the furniture manufacturer, I believe that negotiation would be the best means by which to solve the problem with the store owner. By using negotiation, the furniture store and my manufacturing business may be able to reconcile and continue dealing with each other after we have resolved the issue. With negotiation, the tone is not very formal, outside legal counsel is not required, and the parties to negotiation set their own terms, making it generally more cost effective and efficient than other methods. By comparison, in the case of arbitration or litigation, the proceedings are far more formal and expensive, the process takes much longer, and in the case of litigation in ... Therefore, due to the potential harm this holdup may cause, I would offer a formal apology to both the store owner and the store's customers in this situation. An apology letter may calm the customers down and may keep them motivated to remain on the waiting list. Since apology law protects this from being seen as an admission of guilt in Ontario, this may help to facilitate reconciliation. Upon negotiating, I would agree to offer some of the money that will be lost due to the breach of contract while my business seeks out a new supplier. I would also assure that a written contract with the supplier will be created so that the store owner can be assured that my business is making steps to ensure that an issue such as this one will not occur again. It's not likely that the furniture store would be able to fight my business "all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada". The simple fact of the matter is that in any legal action, there is no inherent right to the Supreme Court. Very few cases are heard by the Supreme Court, and they are often the ones that deal with very serious injustices, and usually pertain to criminal matters. Thus, the Supreme Court would be very unlikely to hear a breach of contract case involving two small businesses.
