Hello Earth!- "One Planet, One People" -
Part 2 – The Architecture of Living Together
In the first part of this series, we looked up at the "Earth Rise" and felt the beauty of our shared
home. Recently, the Artemis crew reminded us of a stark reality: Earth is our vibrant, breathing
planet; the Moon is a dead world where life is not so good. Life on a dead planet is no life at all.
Our "Blue Marble" is our only home, and that makes Learning to Live Together the most
urgent "moonshot" of our time.
From "Animal Farm" to Human Dignity
Nature offers us a beautiful spectacle, but also a warning. On my estate, I watch the squirrels
and black, raven-like birds engage in a fierce struggle for "real estate" and food. It is a classic
example of natural disaster on a small scale. But humanity was meant to rise above the "law of
power" also found in our animal kingdom. But Harmony.
Great rulers and thought leaders—from the Pharaohs and Confucius to Marcus Aurelius—have
wrestled with how to organize our human development in Peace. Eighty years ago, out of the
ashes of WWII, we built the UN Charter and the Security Council to prevent a descent into
barbarism. Ten years ago, we launched a "new Star on our Horizon": the UN Sustainable
Development Goals (Agenda 2030).
Today, that dream feels like it is withering away. We see a "tsunami" of change where the global
middle class faces fear, let alone the poor- and the Great Powers scramble for power, influence
and resources in a way that feels more like a fight than building a shared future. Our energy-
economies presently already cross 7 out of 9 relevant planetary boundaries. Our "living
together system" needs a repair.

The Heart of the Matter: A Moral Compass
In our practice at Energy For One World, we believe leadership is best served when it follows
a "North Star" of shared virtues. We cannot force ourselves into good behavior through cold
analysis alone. It was late Pope Francis exemplified in life- and with his encyclicals Laudato Si’
and Fratelli Tutti,- how we could attain -as a human family- in our Leadership and in our care-
more Heart over this Matter.
To move from a "culture of walls" to a "culture of encounter," I offer these 10 Suggestions for
Leadership—not as rigid laws, but as an invitation to experiment with a different way of being:
1. Listen to the "Double Cry": Hear both the "cry of the earth" and the "cry of the poor" as
one single crisis.
2. Cultivate "Integral Ecology": Recognize that everything is connected; economic growth
must balance with human dignity.
3. Move from "Neighborhood" to "Fraternity": Technology makes us neighbors, but
leadership makes us brothers and sisters.
4. Prioritize "Social Friendship": Proactively seek the common good for those on the
"periphery".
5. Lead from the Heart: Move beyond technocratic materialism to lead with compassion
and vulnerability.
6. Reject the "Culture of Waste": Stop treating natural resources and human beings as
disposable.
7. Embrace "Bruised" Leadership: Dare to get your hands dirty in the streets rather than
staying safe in a "comfort zone".
8. Build Bridges, Not Walls: Seek dialogue over confrontation and collective peace over
national dominance.
9. Practice "Social Charity" in Politics, in our Corporations, in our Economies: Ensure
the economy serves the person, not the other way around.
10.Commit to the "Architecture of Peace": Replace the "law of power" with the "power of
law" and invest in diplomacy.

The Choice Before Us
We are at a crossroads. We see the "Doomsday Clock" at 85 seconds to midnight. We see
ourselves rival in our economies, aspire for numeric GDP growths and with proven oil reserves
potentially running out in 50 to 60 years if we don't change our ways. We see our planet and
nature changing, suffering, polluting and withering away before our eyes.
Unfortunately, it won't fix itself; we must take some actions ourselves:
We must choose between the "dystopia" of fighting over our energy-economies and the
"joyous life" of a system change and solution—like Energy Peace Projects. I invite you to try
these new ways. The alternative is to live on a dead planet, and that is not a future any of us
should want.
Happy People. Happy Planet. Let’s make our more shared moonshot for our Living Together a
reality.

APPENDIX: Example of "TEN Energy Programs Initiatives"-
that can help make the difference (Europe)
Here are ten "game-changer" energy project ideas, broken down into key points with an
informal vibe:
● Build an "ElectroValley" in NW Europe: We're talking a huge manufacturing hub for all
the electric stuff Europe needs—like HVDC power grids, EVs, batteries, solar, and wind
turbines. And let's team up with the Americans and seriously good Chinese power
engineering companies to make it happen.
● Run Power Cables Through Old Gas Pipes: Seriously, let's test if we can shove all
kinds of power cables (low, medium, high, and even ultra-high voltage) through the gas
pipelines that are going to be empty soon. Time to engineer and scale that up!
● Take Back Control of Big Oil in Europe: The government needs a "golden share" and
boardroom seats in the big Western oil companies operating here. Why? To totally reset
their strategy to be all about Europe's energy transition needs and show the rest of the
world how to do sustainability right.
● Shrink the Petrochemical Industry: Let's do a "Reverse Sales Engineering" of all
petrochemical products to see what we actually need. Then, dramatically scale down the
capacity to just the absolute essentials.
● Build Energy Bridges: Let's connect the Big Oil/Energy world with the UN's Sustainable
Development Goals (UNSDGs) and create platform bridges with countries like India,
those in Africa, the Middle East (MENA), ASEAN, and Mercosur.
● Design "Energy Peace Projects": Time to define projects that bring the East and West
together (like the ElectroValley idea) and the North and South together (like the platform
bridges idea). Peace through power!
● Get Key Nations to Team Up: The UK, Germany, Netherlands, and France need a
tight-knit cluster delegation of corporations and governments. Their mission: hammer out
important new trade and program deals with Scandinavia, China, Russia, India, the US,
and the Middle East.
● Rethink Global Energy Trading: We need to re-jigger the international trade and
shipping of oil, gas, and coal. Let's link it much more closely to where stuff is regionally,
and include a 50-year reserve estimate for every region.
● Stop the Energy Meeting Overload: All those groups like UN Energy, IEA, OPEC, IEF,
IRENA, GECF? Their meetings, organizations, and agendas on energy are a mess. We
need to review, streamline, and harmonize the whole thing.
● Update the World Energy Model: Let's take the Agent-Based World Energy Model that
EFOW built back in 2013, load it up with AI and the best new data (including mining
data), and make it available for UN Energy to use.

Strategic Rationale for the Ten Game-Changer Projects
1. Regional Integration & Infrastructure (ElectroValley & Gas Pipe Re-use)
● Justification: These projects address the "Great Acceleration" and the urgent need to
transition from "System A" to "System B". By converting aging gas infrastructure into
power grids, the plan promotes a circular economy and technical feasibility for a rapid
energy transition.
● Alignment: Supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) by building
resilient infrastructure and fostering innovation.
2. Corporate Governance & Control (Golden Shares in Big Oil)
● Justification: EFOW argues that a "conversion of Leadership and Heart" is required.
Taking a "golden share" in Western oil companies ensures their strategy is reset to
prioritize Europe's energy transition rather than solely private profit.
● Alignment: Addresses the "profound fear" of the middle class regarding the massive
transfer of power to private entities.
3. Scaling Down Industry (Reverse Sales Engineering)
● Justification: Humanity has breached 7 of 9 planetary boundaries. By "Reverse Sales
Engineering" the petrochemical industry, EFOW aims to reduce production to absolute
essentials, directly addressing the "biological collapse" caused by industrial expansion.
● Alignment: Responds to the "alarm bells" from the natural science community regarding
existential planetary boundaries.
4. Geopolitical Diplomacy (Energy Bridges & Peace Projects)
● Justification: Current global dynamics are defined by a "scramble for resources" and
new militarization. These projects use energy as a tool for "Peace-making" and
"De-escalation" between East/West and North/South.
● Alignment: Directly supports the mission of creating a "Century of Peace and All
Good".
5. Global Trade & Resource Management (50-Year Reserve Estimates)
● Justification: Proven oil reserves are currently equivalent to only 50 years of
production , with total resources facing a "Discovery Deficit". Linking trade to 50-year

regional reserve estimates forces a realistic understanding of "Earth Underground"

Western BigOil Companies hold only (on average) a 14 year production reserve period.

limitations.
● Alignment: Addresses the "predicament" of resource depletion and the need for
long-term security architecture.
6. Institutional Reform (Harmonizing Energy Organizations)
● Justification: Current global institutions reflect economic structures from 80 years ago
and are "a mess". Streamlining groups like the IEA, OPEC, and IRENA is necessary for
a "Rules-Based Order".
● Alignment: Connects to the UN80 reform recommendations and the call for strong
multilateral institutions.
7. Advanced Analytics (Updated World Energy Model)
● Justification: Decision-makers require better data—including AI and mining data—to
navigate the "tsunami of change". Loading the EFOW Agent-Based World Energy Model
with this data provides a tool for "Responsible Leadership".
● Alignment: Aligns with the $3 billion global fund for AI capacity development mentioned
by the UN Secretary-General
