Basics of Filming and Film Production 1. Film Making for Beginners 2. Pre-production
Stages of Filming
Pre-production Stage. This is the planning and preparation stage. This includes what was already accomplished in the previous activity, which is the conceptualization and development of the script.
Shooting (Filming proper) or the Production Stage. This is where the actual film making is done through shooting or capturing of the scenes (footages) for the development of the film.
Post-Production Stage. This is where editing and polishing of footage is done. It is here where film makers embed the special effects, opening billboard, sound effects, closing billboard, and music.
Roles and Responsibilities of the Production Crew
Director - runs everything on the set and tells everyone what to do, and everyone (theoretically) listens.
Assistant- tarts out the desires of the director to everyone else.
Line Producer - keeps the logistics of the show running on the set.
Screenwriter - writes the story.
Director of Photography or DP - also called Cinematographer. The person who tells the cameraperson what to do.
Cameraperson. The eyes of the DP. On an independent shoot, the DP and the Cameraman are often the same person.
Editor- cuts everything together behind the scenes and makes it all work after all the film is shot.
Music supervisor - picks the background music for the film and decides how, when, and where it is used.
Makeup Artist - makes people look good or spooky or whatever is needed in the scene, using makeup.
Property master - in charge of props, the objects people hold or use to help tell the story.
Production designer - helps with the look of the movie. Picks out clothes, buildings, scenes, locations, art, set design, and more.
Actors - bring the story to life and make it breathe.
