This is the initiation of Deshpande Foundation for promoting bamboo as a crop. In same mission
we developed our 7 acre bamboo plantation in Gandigwad with 15 species with help of Grow
more biotech pvt ltd. This is to developed and promotes to bamboo for nearby farmers and set as
a demonstration of bamboo cultivation method and practices to solve the doubts of farmer
regarding the crop.
Bamboos have so many species and uses around 1200 registered uses of bamboo is there. That is
higher than any crop. And it is very useful to tackle the issue of global warming it grows very
faster than any crop and reduce the carbon contents from environment.
Initially bamboo has been called as poor men timber but in few years it became as a green gold
of the farmer because of demand and the gap of the demand and supply is there we are importing
the bamboo from china, Taiwan, Vietnam etc.
India is the 2nd larger area covered by bamboo but it is in reserve area and in forest even china
cultivation area is less than India’s covered land.
But the need is to cultivate in proper manner. Bamboo has the potential to became a higher cash
crop like sugarcane and etc
 128 species are available in India
 2nd largest covered area by bamboo.

There are so many uses of bamboo apart from this also.
Here Gandigwad site has been divided in two parts.

Home area:- Home area is dedicated to the all species which we are using the description is
given below. It Contains Red soil which require more water than black soil.

Uses of Bamboo as per the species:-
B.Balcoa:- Energy, Diesel, Ethanol, Cotton, Pulp, Charcoal (activated).
D.Asper:- Specially for food
Abbreviation:-
 B.- Bambosa
 D- Dendrocalumns
 T- Thyrsostachys
 G- Gaudwa
Tulda:- Insane sticks, tooth picks,Vegitable stacking, Furniture making.
B.Vulgaris:- Power, Ethanol, Diesel, Cotton, Pulp (Uses are same as Balcoa but productivity is
less than B.Balcoa).
D.Brandisii:- Construction, Furniture, Handicrafts.
Stocksii and Strictus: - Furniture Making
G.Angustifoila:- Furniture and construction purpose.
Solid Bamboo:-
 Stocksii and strictus are 60% solid bamboo.
 Balcoa and tulda is the 80% solid bamboo.
Process which has been followed for Plantation at home area:-
Cleaning (Rootavator)
Marking (as per spacing)
Pit making (Oager)
Pit Filling (FYM 1CFT)
Pit closing and leveling
Mix Press mud and DAP (3:1)
Planting and watering
This is the set of procedure which we have followed for home area.
Farm area:-
Farm area is totally 8 acre land but we used 5acre for Plantation and left remain. In that Field we
used only two species only.
1. B. Balcoa
2. B.Tulda
At Farm are there is black and clay soil we decided to mount for all plants but finally we did for
tulda Plantation only.
Mounting is the process by which we make the raising bed for plant 1-feet above from surface.
It saves the plant at the time of water logging. Because black soil have highest water observing
capacity. Thus black soils need less water to cultivate the bamboo. And in the time of over
watering plant may die so by mounting we can save the plants life.

Planting with mixture of DAP and Press mud
Watering
This is the Process we have followed for the farm area.
Agronomy Practice forBamboo:-
 Proper Irrigation
 De-weeding on regular intervals
 Proper Fertigtion.
 Loosening the soil near root zone
 Proper Monitoring
Inter Cultivation Opportunity:-
In Bamboo cultivation there are the opportunity for inter cultivation in initial stage for one year.
For inter crop we can go for crop such as.
 Millets
 Pulses
 Chili
 Vegetables
 Herbal crops.
There are many ways to use the space after planting and after the growing of one year also.
On acre leaf fall will be around more than 6 tone that leaf can be used for warmi compost for
that land than future we need not to purchase the fertilize the bamboo and it can be the
business for the farmer.

Note: - It was suggested cost earlier by our consulting persons before starting the project after
discussing with them. Here I kept put together all the points which have been suggested by them.
So as per the discussion it was 67,051/acre. With drip to all plants. Here Plant cost has not
included.

Note:- Initially the project cost was 4,69,363/- for 7 acre but the actual cost of the project is
2,35,367/-) with drip. Where drip cost has been arranged by farmer itself. So the cost per acre is
33,623/- with drip (Plant cost is not included). Initially it was 67,051/- per acre total variation is
50% variation in planned cost and actual cost.
Plant Population :-
 Home area :- 770 plants at 400 plants/acre
 Farm are a:- 1140 plants at 600 plants /acre
2791 plants at 1000 plants/acre
Total Plants - 4701 plants have been planted
Note:- prepared space of plantation is remain around 500 balcoa plants we hold it because eof
plant shortage and because of drip trench it was not closed earlier so we hold it after planting it
the plant population will be 4701+500 = 5201 plants in 7 acre.

  • 3. Introduction:- Farmer: - Dr. Verayya Hiremath Add:- Vill. Gandigwad Tq. Kanhapur Dist. Belgum (Karnatka) This is the initiation of Deshpande Foundation for promoting bamboo as a crop. In same mission we developed our 7 acre bamboo plantation in Gandigwad with 15 species with help of Grow more biotech pvt ltd. This is to developed and promotes to bamboo for nearby farmers and set as a demonstration of bamboo cultivation method and practices to solve the doubts of farmer regarding the crop. Bamboos have so many species and uses around 1200 registered uses of bamboo is there. That is higher than any crop. And it is very useful to tackle the issue of global warming it grows very faster than any crop and reduce the carbon contents from environment. Initially bamboo has been called as poor men timber but in few years it became as a green gold of the farmer because of demand and the gap of the demand and supply is there we are importing the bamboo from china, Taiwan, Vietnam etc. India is the 2nd larger area covered by bamboo but it is in reserve area and in forest even china cultivation area is less than India’s covered land. But the need is to cultivate in proper manner. Bamboo has the potential to became a higher cash crop like sugarcane and etc  128 species are available in India  2nd largest covered area by bamboo.  Socio economic conditions Uses of Bamboo: - 1.   • 5. Tulda:- Insane sticks, tooth picks,Vegitable stacking, Furniture making. B.Vulgaris:- Power, Ethanol, Diesel, Cotton, Pulp (Uses are same as Balcoa but productivity is less than B.Balcoa). D.Brandisii:- Construction, Furniture, Handicrafts. Stocksii and Strictus: - Furniture Making G.Angustifoila:- Furniture and construction purpose. Solid Bamboo:-  Stocksii and strictus are 60% solid bamboo.  Balcoa and tulda is the 80% solid bamboo. Process which has been followed for Plantation at home area:- Cleaning (Rootavator) Marking (as per spacing) Pit making (Oager) Pit Filling (FYM 1CFT) Pit closing and leveling Mix Press mud and DAP (3:1) Planting and watering This is the set of procedure which we have followed for home area.
  • 6. Farm area:- Farm area is totally 8 acre land but we used 5acre for Plantation and left remain. In that Field we used only two species only. 1. B. Balcoa 2. B.Tulda At Farm are there is black and clay soil we decided to mount for all plants but finally we did for tulda Plantation only. Mounting is the process by which we make the raising bed for plant 1-feet above from surface. It saves the plant at the time of water logging. Because black soil have highest water observing capacity. Thus black soils need less water to cultivate the bamboo. And in the time of over watering plant may die so by mounting we can save the plants life. Drawing of farm area (Black Soil) Process which has been followed at farm area.

Process Cleaning (Rootavtor) Marking Trench (Size 2*1) Pit Making (size 2*1) Filling with Press mud (1CFT) Closing Trench and Mounting Planting with mixture of DAP and Press mud Watering This is the Process we have followed for the farm area. Agronomy Practice forBamboo:-  Proper Irrigation  De-weeding on regular intervals  Proper Fertigtion.  Loosening the soil near root zone  Proper Monitoring Inter Cultivation Opportunity:- In Bamboo cultivation there are the opportunity for inter cultivation in initial stage for one year. For inter crop we can go for crop such as.  Millets  Pulses  Chili  Vegetables  Herbal crops.
  • 8. There are many ways to use the space after planting and after the growing of one year also. On acre leaf fall will be around more than 6 tone that leaf can be used for warmi compost for that land than future we need not to purchase the fertilize the bamboo and it can be the business for the farmer. Where drip cost has been arranged by farmer itself. So the cost per acre is 33,623/- with drip (Plant cost is not included). Initially it was 67,051/- per acre total variation is 50% variation in planned cost and actual cost. Plant Population :-  Home area :- 770 plants at 400 plants/acre  Farm are a:- 1140 plants at 600 plants /acre 2791 plants at 1000 plants/acre Total Plants - 4701 plants have been planted Note:- prepared space of plantation is remain around 500 balcoa plants we hold it because eof plant shortage and because of drip trench it was not closed earlier so we hold it after planting it the plant population will be 4701+500 = 5201 plants in 7 acre.
