The War Of The World War II
Of all the years the human race has occupied this planet, we have not come face to face with many
events that could bring so many people together while simultaneously tearing them apart World War II
is one of those events. While the beginning is not set in stone, many will argue that the war all started
with the unwarranted German attack on Poland in September of 1939. As tensions rose between
countries, conflict began to swell. Over 20 countries were involved, and alliances were established.
The war was fought between two major alliances; the Allied powers and the Axis powers. The Allied
powers consisted of the following major countries: France, Great Britain, Russia, and the United
States. The Axis powers were Italy, Japan, and Germany. World War II involved more nations, cost
more money, and killed more people than any war before its time. The American English dictionary
defines total war as [a] war that is unrestricted in terms of the weapons used, the territory or
combatants involved, or the objectives pursued, especially one in which the laws of war are
disregarded. To say World War II was not a total war would be nonsense. World War II can be
considered the quintessential modern total war by both its physical and ideological scale. It was a war
of ideas, a war of losses, and a war of gains; but over all, it was a war of total involvement. It ripped
the world apart, and mankind was shook to its foundation. Every single world power in the 1940s was

Security In Macbeth
When individuals are given a small amount of security, the temptation to overstep that small amount
of security for more power can clog your mind. In the play Macbeth by WIlliam Shakespeare, the
protagonist Macbeth was given a small amount of security that was abused. Macbeth was given a
small amount of security by the witches, then he put blind trust into them without any kind of backup
plan. When Macbeth overstepped the security that was given to him, he did not realized it and was
blinded by his ambition, that ultimately lead to more power and more ambition. In result of his
temptation, Macbeth went to utmost lengths to ensure that he would not lose the crown, but in the end,
his efforts were for nothing. Shakespeare is saying that when individuals are tempted by power, or that
their ambitions are to high, they do not consider the consequences that come if you take that
temptation. Initially when people are given a small amount of security, they are tempted to take more

Macbeth being naive, trusted his security 100% without question and in result of this action he tried to
maintain his power by killing or getting rid of anyone that threatened his throne. When the witches
told macbeth that he will be the king, but also Duncan s sons, he murdered Duncan and the sons
(Malcolm and Donalbain) fled in fear of them also being murdered. When Macbeth saw Banquo as a
threat, he had 3 murderers try to assassinate Banquo and his son Fleance . Banquo was killed and his
Fleance escaped. Finally when the witches gave Macbeth the advice to Beware Macduff the thane of
fife, he Murdered his family. Macbeth s being paranoid and not thinking would kill anyone that ever
posed even the a minuscule threat to his power. This is because he would need to be 100% confident
with his security, but as the witches have stated And you all know security is mortals chiefest enemy.

Pop Cultural Elements of Military Cadences Essay
Pop Cultural Elements of Military Cadences
HUT, TWO, THREE, FOUR...HUT, TWO, THREE, FOUR... What do a bunch of grunts calling out
raunchy marching cadences have to do with pop culture? There s more to the cadence then just
keeping soldiers in step, there is a deep sense of pride, patriotism, unity, motivation, and nostalgia,
which can be found within these songs. The Military cadence is used to motivate, inspire, and foster
company cohesiveness while keeping soldiers steps in time and hands down the rich oral traditions of
the Army, Navy, Marines, and Air force. The cadence is a song sung when marching or running and
the songs require a caller, who normally sets the pace and leads the formation. Like robots, the

Subculture
The article Audiences a study of subcultures, defines a subculture as an individual s social experience
and cultural activities, shaped by gender, ethnicity, age and class. The military is a subculture of its
own; its personnel come from the greater American culture with all its subcultures. The Military is
organized unlike the rest of American society, with many smaller subcultures depending on branch;
Army, Navy, Air force, Marines with smaller divisions, such as airborne rangers, navy seals, and the
Special Forces. There is much competition between these branches and a deep sense of pride of being
part of a particular branch. Therefore cadences reflect these branch partitions and traditions while
fostering a we are better than them morale.
The Army, in turn, is a subculture of the greater military subculture, and each Army installation offers
a microcosm of the Army culture that can be reflected in cadences. For instance one might be biased
and believe that the Army is the most diverse, effective, and hardcore of all the branches. While the

The House Of Candles Essay
ABSTRACT: Wilfrid Wilson Gibson (1878 1962) occupies a distinct place among Georgian poets.
His name is associated with such poets as Rupert Brooke, Edward Marsh, Walter de la Mare and
Siegfried Sassoon. He has written a large number of poems on diverse themes like nature, love,
unemployment and the sufferings of common people, old age and childhood. Besides, the plight of
women also gets expression in some of his poems like Agatha Steel, The Operation, The Call, The
Wound and many others. The House of Candles is such a poem that deals with the predicament of a
woman in bearing an illegitimate child. Man and woman are equally responsible for the act of sexual
intercourse out of wedlock. If this mating results in pregnancy of woman, it cannot be called an act of
chance or accident. Unfortunately, society is of two minds towards female sexuality and in such
circumstances women are blamed and all the punishment and criticism are meted upon them. No one
cares for the man who is responsible for such condition of a woman. In fact, the society is real culprit
for the predicament of women. In this article, an attempt has been made to discuss Gibson s The

Analysis Of Of Mice And Men And Oliver Twist
Women of today or of the 21st century have the privilege of working, having an opinion and the right
not to be ruled by men. However, women from the 19th and the 20th centuries were dependent on
men, because only men were able to work good wages. The only job a woman had was to either be a
housewife and mother or to be a prostitute. Nancy is a girl from Great London from the book Oliver
Twist . She is a prostitute and a thief and she is the girlfriend of Bill Sikes. Curley s wife is a girl from
the 20th century from the book Of Mice and Men , who is married to Curley and lives in California,
USA. For this coursework, I am going to be exploring the presentation of these two characters, Nancy
and Curley s wife, from the books Of Men and Men and Oliver Twist .
The two characters were introduced by the authors Dickens and Steinbeck in a very negative yet
interesting way. In Of Mice and Men Candy says to George, I think Curley s married a tart . Steinbeck
uses dialogue to describe Curley s wife when Candy talks about her to George in a negative way. This
tells readers how men have no respect for women because she is called a tart which means a slut, and
conveys the idea that women were thought in a misogynistic manner by males in the 20th century. In
the Victorian era, women were supposed to be properly attired and dressed ladylike. Dickens uses
description to describe Nancy in an opposite manner, ....remarkably free and agreeable in their
manners . She acted in a carefree

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Democratic Government

`` The Lottery `` By Shirley Jackson
According to Philip Zimbardo the author of The Lucifer Effect: Understanding How Good People
Turn Evil, he says Good people can be induced, seduced, and initiated into behaving in evil ways.
They can also be led to act in irrational, stupid, self destructive, antisocial, and mindless ways when
they are immersed in total situations that impact human nature in ways that challenge our sense of the
stability and consistency of individual personality, of character, and of morality (Philip). In the short
story The Lottery , author Shirley Jackson demonstrates Zimbardo s concepts in three different areas:
Authority figures, Tradition and Superstition, and Loyalty.
The first concept Jackson portrays in The Lottery is the authority figures. Jackson indicates that the
lottery is being held in the town center by one authority figure, Mr. Summers, annually on June 27th.
Every June 27th, without fail, townspeople gather in the town square to participate in the annually
lottery even though most of them cannot recall nor question the origin of this event, and none bother
to question if it is conducted fairly. Mr. Summers not only conducts the lottery as keeper of the black
box, where he makes up the name slips, but is also the only authority figure who marks a black spot
on the name slip that sends a person to death by stone. Jackson never discusses how Mr. Summers
obtained such power over the town; but everyone in town unquestioningly complies with Mr.
Summers s orders. In

Should Mountaintop Removal Be Banned
Since the 1970s, mountaintop removal continues to destroy millions of acres of land and hundreds of
mountains primarily in eastern Kentucky, southern West Virginia, southwestern Virginia, and eastern
Tennessee. That leaves many communities who are near mountaintop removal sites threatened by the
explosions and the toxic waste that can potentially harm them. Mountaintop removal also has a big
impact deforestation which can cause global warming and lead to many endangered species.
Mountaintop removal should be banned because it involves permanent deforestation, it harms local
communities by using explosives near their community and destroying their drinking water, and it
harms the climate by emitting carbon dioxide from burning coal.
One of the reasons why it should be banned is because it involves permanent deforestation. According
to the Appalachian Voices Organization, This means not only lost wildlife habitat, but also the steady

other coal mining strategies and think it s safe because miners don t have to risk going underground to

Sostratus Lighthouse
The most outstanding was the creation of Sostratus from Cnidus (III century BC) a sea lighthouse on
the island of Pharos near Alexandria, which was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World (it
has not survived to our time). It is a three tier tower 120 m high: its base was square, the middle tier
had the shape of an octagon, and the upper tier was a round structure with statues that adorned it. At
the top of the lighthouse, equipped with metal mirrors, the fire was constantly maintained. The
lighthouse served as both an observation post and a fortress. The nature of the planning of Hellenistic
cities was distinguished by strict order. The straightforwardness of the sometimes wide streets, from

Persuasive Essay On Why We Dream
In my paper I will ask exactly what it is to dream and give my best explanation based on what others
have learned and I have gathered on the subject. Even though scientists may not have many ways of
researching how and why we dream today with our current technology we can however talk to the
people who dream and study brain activity. In this paper I will address the research I have conducted
on why we dream. As of right now scientists are all puzzled by this question. Partly because the
technology we need in order to pinpoint a specific answer isn t developed at the current moment.
However, through psychological and behavioral research we can come to means with several theories
as to why we do dream. Whether it is the unconscious desires we get to experience at night or the
molded slice of pizza we had for dinner before we went to bed. Many of the scientist that are currently
working on this dilemma have asked some of the same questions. Like: what is dreaming, how does
dreaming work, what causes bad dreams or nightmares, and how can we conduct research to find out?
As of right now no one knows and there isn t an easy answer. However I can explain the stages of
sleep and how they affect us and when we dream. Due to the lack of technology today no answer will
come easy. However with enough persistence we may be able to establish a pattern and put meaning
to them. Researchers working with neurologists have already started taking dreams and converting
them to images. By using

Bob Marley Research Paper
Bob Marley is without a doubt one of the most inspirational songwriters the world has ever known.
Contrary to popular belief, most of Marley s writings were not ganja anthems, but hopeful songs about
redemption, social injustice, spiritual strength, and perseverance in the face of seemingly impossible
odds. Included here are my selections or Bob Marley s 10 most inspirational songs.
Number One: Zion Train ( Uprising ) 1980. Featured on Marley s 1981 album Uprising, every note of
this tune inspires. It is a song in which Marley s philosophic aphorisms ( Don t gain the world and lose
your soul / Wisdom is better than silver and gold ) are as impactful as the most simplistic, commonly
spoken adages (Oh, where there s a will / There s always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is one of Marley s most brilliantly penned songs.Number Seven: Duppy Conqueror ( Burnin ) 1974.
While Get Up, Stand Up is the most obvious choice from this album, that song was written by Peter
Tosh. On Duppy Conqueror, Bob, Peter and Bunny go ghost busting ( duppy means evil spirit). An
early Lee Scratch Perry production, Duppy Conqueror is a classic tune about good over evil ( Don t
try to cut me off on this bridge now / I ve got to reach Mt. Zion (the highest region) / So if you a
bullbucka (bad spirit), let me tell you this / I m a duppy conqueror! ).Number Eight: Trenchtown Rock
( Live! ) 1975. Trenchtown Rock is quite possibly the greatest ghetto anthem ever penned. It is a song
in which Marley recasts the ghetto experience from one of shame to one of pride ( Trenchtown rock /
Don t turn your back / Trenchtown rock / I say give the slum a try / Trenchtown rock / Never let the
children cry / Trenchtown rock or you got to tell Jah, Jah why ).Number Nine: The Heathen ( Exodus )
1977. Yet another Marley tune pitting good against evil, The Heathen is a rousing call to arms for the
righteous to take up arms against the wicked ( Rise up fallen fighters / Rise and take your stance again

No Place At Hide By Glenn Greenwald
No Place to Hide by Glenn Greenwald is about the National Security Agency (NSA), an agency of the
United States government. The primary purpose of the NSA is to gather and analyze information with
the intent of preserving the national security and the safety of the citizens, especially from terroristic
threats. In 2013, Edward Snowden, a contractor working for the NSA released classified information
which showed that the agency was spying on Americans and collecting information without a warrant,
which is against the law and Americans basic rights. Greenwald was one of the first journalists that
Snowden had contacted when he was looking to leak the information. No Place to Hide is an account
of all of the events leading up to, during, and after the news broke. An important basis of the book is
the Fourth Amendment and the significance that Americans place on their right to privacy:
The right of the people to be secure in their person, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable
searches, seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause,
supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons
or things to be seized (Greenwald, 3).
Many believed that their Fourth Amendment rights were being violated by the Patriot Act and the
mass overreaching of the information that the NSA collected. The Patriot Act was signed into action in
2001 shortly after 9/11 and was meant to protect the

Analysis Of Plato s The Democratic Man
Brandon Wilson
Professor Evans
Intro to Philosophy
4 March 2015
Plato s Democratic Man Plato describes the degeneration to democracy in Book VIII of The Republic
as the relationship between man and the city. There are five stages starting with the first being and
aristocracy led by a philosopher king who is wise and makes the decision for all and his soul is
considered to be that of gold. Aristocracy stage leads to timocracy which would is the new generation
of leaders and their souls are not considered to be made of gold as the philosopher king would be in
the previous stage leading to a stronger lust for wealth. Timocracy then goes to oligarchy which leads
to wealth and poverty, while the wealthy write laws to help them continue to be wealthy. Oligarchy
then degrades to the democracy stage where wealth and freedom, a lavish of riches so to speak is
desired in this stage. Democracy degenerates into tyranny where the people give into their desires and
is considered to be chaos.
Plato thinks that the philosopher king aristocracy would be the best type of government, one needs to
ask would this type of government control man s appetite for wealth and luxuries? The kings would
not themselves accrue wealth according to the republic, so where would it go, to the army, or to public
education, or maybe back to the people to build better means to take care of themselves? These ideas
he has are irrelevant because all the stages intertwine together in some form. They do not stray

Animal Lab Experiments
Animal lab experiments have long been a controversial issue especially among animal rights activists.
There has always been a conflict between scientists relying on animal laboratory research for medical
advancement, and animal rights activists that are against the abuse of animals within these research

animals in medical laboratories still remain a problem.
In 1986, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) released an undercover video called

The Octogonal Structure Roared from Shakespeare s Performers
This octogonal structure roared from Shakespeare s performers. The actors and the audience
throughout the performances had tears, laughter, and many left in complete awe. Every seat in this
three story theatre was packed tightly with over 30,000 eyes watching. Flags rose, and trumpets
started to play in the Globe while productions began. The Globe Theatre started an era of acting in the
late 1500 s and changed the way we look at performing still to this day.
This theatre was jaw dropping as people entered this salvaged wood framed theatre. In 1599, the stage
was ready for acts to begin. The name of the Globe Theatre was for people to know that the whole
round world could be represented by every actor. William Shakespeare referred to the theatre as this
wooden O (Langly). In Elizabethan times, the ground along the bankside could flood by the Thames,
so the Globe had to have solid foundations. After about 1600, as many as 15,000 people went to the
city s playhouse every week.
The Globe was designed and was a hodgepodge of architectural structures. This framework held the
first performances. All actors were men. It did not matter whether the role was a woman or man. The
theatre was also one of the only social sites that brought together different classes of people. Of this
three story masterpiece there were special sections reserved for members of nobility.

The Veldt Theme
Did you hear that scream? she asked. No. About a minute ago? Sorry, no. The lions were coming. This
is a quote from The Veldt , a short story by Ray Bradbury. This story is projecting to us what the future
would look like if we keep relying on technology. In this story Mr. and Mrs. Hadley have two kids,
Peter and Wendy. They are spoiling them with all the new technology of that time period. The kids
have gotten too attached to the technology and getting whatever they want, that when their favorite
piece of technology is taken away they take harsh measures. This makes me think that one theme for
this story could be that technology is advancing and it is taking over the simple things we do in life.
The first reason that I think ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That sounds dreadful! Would I have to tie my own shoes instead of letting the shoe tier do it? And

latest technology, he doesn t know what it would be like if he had to do simple things by himself. It is
simple actions like this that make children spoiled and that shows that technology is going to replace
the things in life that we don t even think about. When Peter thinks about not having the technology
that he has he doesn t know what to do because he depends on the house and the machines so much.
For Peter having the whole house turned off is the worst thing that could happen to him, because to
him the house is like his parent now and think of how you would feel if your parents were taken away
forever. This story is showing us what the future will look like if we keep going at how we are. We
start to depend on technology more and more and forget about what is important in life...family. The
parents are being replaced by the house and the kids are growing up with everything they dreamed of.
With all of the technology kids aren t learning things in life that are easy everyday tasks. Technology
is everywhere and everyday it is becoming more advanced and soon technology will do everything for
us and we won t have to do anything and that is not a world where

`` Those Winter Sundays `` By Robert Hayden
It may seem unlikely that someone who viewed himself as an outsider would leave a legacy as a
postmodern poet, yet Robert Hayden did just that in his poem, Those Winter Sundays. The poet
utilizes his own alienation as a tool to reveal an insider s view on the issues of his time.
Robert Hayden was born in a poor suburb outside Detroit on August 4, 1913. His name at birth was
Asa Bundy Sheffey. He was raised, however, as Robert Hayden, the name given by his foster parents.
Hayden s foster parents happened to live across the street from where Hayden was born. Hayden did
not discover the story until later in life. Realizing this story helped shape his life as a poet. He
established a lasting legacy of both postmodernism and African American achievement. At the same
time, his poetry helped Robert Hayden discover who he was as a person.
Hayden was extremely nearsighted as a child. He abandoned the notion of sports in favor of reading,
eventually developing a deep seated love of reading that turned into a career as a poet and a legacy of
many notable works. Hayden is sometimes compared to Robert Frost in terms of breakout hits. His
first volumes did extremely well in the United Kingdom upon their release. (Glaysher 2) It is through
his poems that Hayden [s]ubtly characterizes modern society while portraying its victims. (Fetrow 1)

How Architecture Is The Most Effect Of People Thinking...
1. Introduction
Architecture is a mutual creation of works and the ideas are not only for personal, but it is also
represented the spirit and national character in this age. Therefore , it is the most basic demand of
human and society that provide important security and improve the style of human life.
It is not a pure Art nor pure engineering, the building is satisfied of function demand, via structure and
construction way as well as reached the form of an artificial shape. But,how do we understand
Architecture? What is the most effect of people thinking about it?
Exactly as Tadao Ando says that understanding the architecture, which is not through the media, the
architectural space is felt through by people sensorial experience though that it is more important than
anything else.In one building, it roots in the terroir and the culture of life, strongly remind in people s

geographical and cultural historical context from the macro elements of spirit to the personal life
experience, even the impression of unobtrusive plants and trees as well as minor elements of memory

For this reason, the essay concludes the main focus part of the poetics of space to demonstrate the
phenomenology of architecture which is related to space, material, light and shadow that sway on the
human senses by case study of Tadao Ando work, Church on Water.

Restricting Cell Phones in Public Places
Restricting Cell Phones in Public Places How many times have you seen someone on their cell phones
in a restaurant or in a public environment? There have been so many instances when I will be out
eating with my family and look over at another table and a person will be in deep conversation on the
cell phone, while their family is with them. There are many reasons why restricting cell phones could
have a positive outcome. It can be rude to a family, disrespectful to the other people that are around
that person, and when a family goes out together it should be family time. First is the fact that it is
rude to a person s family. When a family plans an event that includes going out in public and having a
meal together, it is expected by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eating and talking on the phone or texting is not healthy to a person s digestive system. Stressful
mealtimes can cause medical conditions that can be harmful to a person s health, such as acid reflux.
Taking the cell phones out of a situation will make a person slow down and relax. Actually enjoy
eating a meal; instead of being hurried can be beneficial. Not being able to be on the phone during a
meal can give a person some relaxation time. Some people would argue that having their cell phone is
a necessity to their jobs, but a person has to have some personal time to enjoy their family and friends,
without the disruption of the phone ringing constantly. It is understandable if it is an emergency and
the person needs to answer the phone. Working constantly is not healthy for their wellbeing. Even if it
is another friend calling, it is rude to be with a person s family and be talking to someone else on the
phone. We have become a society that does not enjoy family time like it needs to. We only have our
children for a few short years. This time should be savored, not taken for granted. I think taking the
cell phones out of the equation would be beneficial for all the people involved. Restricting cell phone
usage in public places can be beneficial to everyone involved. Being on the phone is not only rude and
disrespectful to his or her family members, but also rude to anyone else they are having

Comparison Of Rahe And The Baron De Montesquieu
Both Paul A. Rahe and the baron de Montesquieu seek to define republics of antiquity and modern
republics, but Montesquieu places more faith in the reader s ability to comprehend the ancients. While
Rahe presents an explanation of ancient republics with frequent references to American government,
Montesquieu illustrates the principles of ancient and British governments separately. Montesquieu
establishes rules regarding each republic, such as that all nations have peculiar purposes and that three
powers exist in every political community. He then examines various states and generally does not
directly compare England with ancient republics. Montesquieu allows the reader to make his own
analysis. One must not always so exhaust a subject ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He writes, Political liberty is found only in moderate governments. But it is not always in moderate
states. It is present only when power is not abused, but it has eternally been observed that any man
who has power is led to abuse it; he continues until he finds limits. Therefore, a system of checks must
be set in place in order to avoid such abuses and protect political liberty. Montesquieu continues, So
that one cannot abuse power, power must check power by the arrangement of things. This separation
is essential for England s unique goal of establishing political liberty. Although Montesquieu
occasionally considers ancient republics in his chapters on England, he generally discusses them
separately and does not often compare them, such as when he considers a balance of power. The
English constitution ensures that no one body possesses the three powers which Montesquieu
identifies. He writes, In each state there are three sorts of powers: legislative power, executive power
over the things depending on the right of nations, and executive power over the things depending on
civil right. The legislative power refers to the ability to make and correct laws. The first executive
power refers to the power of state, meaning the ability to make peace or war, have power over
embassies, and maintain national security. The last power is that of judging disputes and punishing
crimes. Montesquieu writes, All would be lost if the same man or the same body of principal

The Realm Of Organizational Change And Development Essay
In the realm of organizational change and development there is a standard model that is considered
among most organizational development professionals to be the basic format for planned changed
known as the General Model of planned Change. Essentially what organizational development
professionals are dealing with is almost exclusively centered around planned change. That same type
of planned change was present within the Sunflower Incorporated Company which started their
planned change initiative in early 1989. The technology that the company was looking to change was
the financial reporting system in order to have a new system that is able to compare sales, cost, and
profit margins on a regional basis. The company decided to open a new position that was specifically
targeted at maximizing the performance of the companies financial goals and they hired a new pricing
manager by the name of Agnes Albanese who was in charge of conducting the internal price
management initiative. While her ideas were perceived positively among the internal executive groups
as a whole there was some pushback on the new pricing format. In Mrs. Albanese attempt to make the
financial department more efficient and decided that all pricing and purchasing decisions should be
made on standardized across all regions of the organization. Secondly, she mandated that all local
price increases higher than 3 percent must also be approved through her and any contracts of local
purchases that were higher

What Are The Obstacles In The Odyssey
In the stories The Odyssey, Divergent, and Moana, each character must face an obstacle that concerns
them of making a decision which affects their own family, in order to reach their goal. In The
Odyssey, Odysseus left his wife, Penelope for twenty years. Through those twenty years, Odysseus
was playing pattycake with some of the goddesses that he was encountered with. While Penelope was
at home, waiting for him and staying loyal to their marriage. She was even surrounded by a bunch of
suitors who wanted to marry her since they all thought Odysseus was never coming back. Penelope
stayed loyal and told the suitors, Young men, my suitors, now my lord is dead, let me finish my
weaving before I marry, or else my thread will have been spun in vain...So every day she wove on the

In this sentence Penelope was trying to delay the time that the suitors would give her because she still
had faith in Odysseus s returning. Even though Penelope was tempted by many men, she stayed
faithful to Odysseus which was a hard obstacle for her to go through. She didn t have her husband for
twenty years and she even had a son whom she had to raise by herself. She was able to overcome the
obstacle of losing family all by herself. Secondly, in Moana, Moana s father was very strict about her
getting into a boat in the ocean or even having her be by the ocean. He constantely told her that it was
too dangerous to go out beyond the reef. As Moana s father tried, what seemed like everday, to stop
her from going into the ocean, he knew that for her and for the island, he needed to let her go beyond
the reef. He needed to overcome the obstacle of letting his daughter go and being on her own. From
him letting his daughter go, she was able to restore the heart of Te Fiti and save her home. Lastly in
Divergent, as Tris joins a new faction, leaving her family behind, she definitely feels lonely and doesn

HIV Epidemic Terrence Higgins Trust
National strategies
Terrence Higgins Trust
At the beginning of the HIV epidemic the Terrence Higgins trust was formed in the 1980 s. It is a
national charity, however it began as a small charity. The Terrence Higgins trust provides a range of
different services for those who suffer from HIV, it is the leading HIV and sexual health charity within
the UK. In order to help prevent the disease the Terrence Higgins trust work to make it more known to
people nationally, this is important as it will help change the stigma involving HIV, many other disease
also have national charities who help to provide awareness about them.
This strategy is successful because it helps those who are suffering from HIV avoid being
discriminated against which will make them feel more comfortable with getting treatment and seeking
out advice on how to cope with their disease. It also educates people about HIV which will also help
prevent the disease. Lastly it raises awareness for the disease and makes people more aware of how it
can be contracted and avoids stereotyping.

Intellectual Disability Definition
How has the label of Mental Retardation been used to discriminate against people and do you think
the term, Intellectual Disability would have a different connotation?
Society has a different intake in everything, as individual we are expected to do certain things, live
certain way, and be certain way. Occasionally, when we fail to live to these expectations we are often
excluded from certain groups and may not regarded as typical human beings. The term Mental
Retardation might be the perfect fit when it comes to describing the slow development of the brain;
however, this term has a bad connotation. In the early years the word retardation was used as a
replacement for word such as idiot, imbecile, morons and cretin (Hingston, 2011). Many

Buffers Lab
Buffers are solutions that resist change in pH when small amounts of strong acids or bases are added
to it. Adding a strong acid to a solution would decrease its pH as seen in fig 2 and adding weak base
would increase its pH as seen in fig. 3. One good use of buffers in a biology field is that buffers
control the pH in order for the cells to live in a livable environment. If the cell is too basic it releases
H+ ions into the cells and if its too acidic the buffer releases OH . Therefore, buffers inside and
outside the cells help maintain the pH in the cytoplasm because if the pH is not applicable in the cell,
the cell dies. To recap buffers in the cells, help to maintain an ideal environment for biochemical
reactions to take place.

In part 1 of the experiment was where a stock solution was prepared using different quantities of acid
and base and comparing the predicted PH using the Henderson hasselbach equation vs. the measured
pH using a pH probe. The Ph readings that was measured and graphed were pretty close and off by
approximately 0.03 0.08 points and we can say that is an accurate reading, meaning that the probe was
calibrated precisely in order to have a pH reading of the prepared solution as close as possible to the
predicted ph. When we used the hasselbach equation for the predicted pH we were provided with a
pKa of 7.18, looking at graph 1 at the intercept of each line, the pKa of the measured pH is 7.195 and
the predicted pH has a pKa value of 7.18, rounding those values to one decimal place we get a pKa
value of 7.2 for both and that is spot on compared to the provided pKa for the Henderson hasselbach
equation. Looking at the graph, we can conclude that as pH increases the concentration of acid/base

President Ronald Reagan s Challenger Explosion
January 28, 1986, marks the day of the Space Shuttle Challenger Explosion. A day that will go down
in history as a horrible tragedy for both NASA and America. Seven lives were lost that day, including
the life of a high school teacher from New Hampshire. Former President Ronald Reagan was tasked
with explaining this tragic event to the US people. Because of this, Reagan postponed the State of the
Union Address and spoke about the Challenger Explosion instead. In his address to the nation about
the explosion of the space shuttle, Challenger, President Ronald Reagan effectively commemorates the
loss of the Challenger crew while also celebrating the crew s achievements and encouraging further
space travel by establishing pathos through his show of empathy, employing strong positive
connotation, and alluding to the great explorer, Sir Francis Drake. ... Show more content on

what NASA can achieve in the future. Reagan had a job as a national eulogist and had to offer

a special message he wished to share with everyone who works for NASA. It s as follows: Your
dedication and professionalism have moved and impressed us for decades. And we know of your
anguish. We share it. (Reagan). This gave praise to the workers at NASA and let them know their hard
work wasn t forgotten. He specifically chose words like dazzle , daring , and brave to inspire
Americans to look toward the future with positivity and hope. Reagan didn t want this disaster to stop
their journey into space. Reagan wanted to inspire the children and make it plain to them that life goes

The Complications Of Marie De France s Love Stories
Within Marie de France s lais are found multiple complications within a love plot, and when the
reader reaches the end of the tale, all of those difficulties are magically overcome. The idea of love
strengthening while enduring hardships is a central plot in Marie de France. Within Marie s stories
such as Guigemar , Le Frense , and Lanval there are love stories that seem to overcome
insurmountable complications. Rather, they seemed likely to lead to a tragic ending. However, through
the power of love and what seems to be a magical force, everything is resolved and the couples whisk

Marie sees love in a unique way, and I believe her philosophy when it comes to love is that love can
endure all and that some magical force will guide you to a happily ever after. Though, I believe this to
not be true since not all love stories have a happy conclusion, and the way a person handles obstacles
cannot be solved with magic. Her stories seem to demonstrate love in an unlikely and unrealistic
manner. For example, in Guigemar , Guigemar is under a curse where it essential that he finds a lady
who will suffer for him, and where he will suffer for her in order to lift the curse. Guigemar falls in
love with a lady who falls in love with him while she is nursing him back to health after noticing his
wound. Nevertheless, she is married to another man, who is the King. The husband of the lady makes
this discovery and wishes to have Guigemar murdered. The King ships Guigemar off to his homeland
and locks his wife up in a tower to suffer. However, suddenly and unexpectedly, by some force of
magic she is able to leave the tower and go on a quest to find Guigemar. She eventually finds him.

Positive Aspects Of Intercultural Relationships
There are certain qualities that are necessary for the development of intercultural relationships. An
individual who pursues these relationships can find many positive and unique aspects in developing
relationships with those from other cultures. In contrast, there are those that tend to avoid people from
other cultures due to preconceived ideas about certain people groups and uncertainty in
communication as well as the desire to stay in their comfort zone in seeking others that are similar
(Samovar pgs. 387 88). Personally, my own experience with intercultural relationships has provided
for me a more balanced view of the world and the ability to look at my own culture in a whole new
way.
I believe in order to become more developed interculturally, it involves letting go of ethnocentrism. I
discovered this was an area of struggle when I first moved abroad to China. I didn t realize that my
superior cultural attitude over the host culture got in the way of developing relationships in the other
culture. How much more this can play out when we are in our own culture. Furthermore, this attitude
initially blocked my ability to learn not only from Chinese culture but other cultures in the
international community as well. As I learned that my culture has its flaws, a positive aspect in
developing interculturally relationships is that I became less ethnocentric.
I think another positive aspect in developing intercultural relationships is the ability to expand your
worldview. This

Identity Essay
Rough Draft Identity is what defines us as a person. Everyone one on earth has their own unique
identity. To showcase my identity, I created a collage of images and descriptive words, called an identi
kit. This identi kit shows what I feel like is my identity to myself and the others. My identi kit
identifies me as a mixed martial artist. The identi kit has images of a deadly shark with mixed martial
arts gloves on that say mixed martial arts on the front and fight shorts with the words competitor and
warrior on them. It also has descriptive words like killer instinct and fight which describe my spirit.

The two that are my favorite have the words Warrior and Competitor on them. These words were
chosen to reflect my identity as a competitor and a warrior when it comes to mixed martial arts and
life in general. One image on the identi kit shows the word Hayabusa which is the fastest falcon in the
world. To me hayabusa means to be fast and quick but do not hurry. The Hayabusa is the fastest bird
in the world that is fast and quick but does not screw up. My life revolves around working fast and
quick but not to mess up at the same time. The images and phrases put together on the identi kit help
others to identify me because they are all very descriptive and imaginative. The identi kit forms my
identity to other people because to train and compete in mixed martial arts you have to be much
disciplined, self motivated, and have the killer instinct to go and fight with another human being. I
was born with my identity and at the same time influenced and made the choice to do what I do. My
identity was created by all three assumptions of identity while with others it could be just one or two
assumptions that made who they are. I was born with me living my life in the fast lane. I have to keep
on moving and trucking without ever stopping. I was born with my killer instinct and passion for
competition. My involvement in mixed martial arts was influenced and a choice. Everyone has their
niche in life. Some people are good at football, others in academics, while I was good

  • 2. The War Of The World War II Of all the years the human race has occupied this planet, we have not come face to face with many events that could bring so many people together while simultaneously tearing them apart World War II is one of those events. While the beginning is not set in stone, many will argue that the war all started with the unwarranted German attack on Poland in September of 1939. As tensions rose between countries, conflict began to swell. Over 20 countries were involved, and alliances were established. The war was fought between two major alliances; the Allied powers and the Axis powers. The Allied powers consisted of the following major countries: France, Great Britain, Russia, and the United States. The Axis powers were Italy, Japan, and Germany. World War II involved more nations, cost more money, and killed more people than any war before its time. The American English dictionary defines total war as [a] war that is unrestricted in terms of the weapons used, the territory or combatants involved, or the objectives pursued, especially one in which the laws of war are disregarded. To say World War II was not a total war would be nonsense. World War II can be considered the quintessential modern total war by both its physical and ideological scale. It was a war of ideas, a war of losses, and a war of gains; but over all, it was a war of total involvement. It ripped the world apart, and mankind was shook to its foundation. Every single world power in the 1940s was directly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Security In Macbeth When individuals are given a small amount of security, the temptation to overstep that small amount of security for more power can clog your mind. In the play Macbeth by WIlliam Shakespeare, the protagonist Macbeth was given a small amount of security that was abused. Macbeth was given a small amount of security by the witches, then he put blind trust into them without any kind of backup plan. When Macbeth overstepped the security that was given to him, he did not realized it and was blinded by his ambition, that ultimately lead to more power and more ambition. In result of his temptation, Macbeth went to utmost lengths to ensure that he would not lose the crown, but in the end, his efforts were for nothing. Shakespeare is saying that when individuals are tempted by power, or that their ambitions are to high, they do not consider the consequences that come if you take that temptation. When Macbeth saw Banquo as a threat, he had 3 murderers try to assassinate Banquo and his son Fleance . Banquo was killed and his Fleance escaped. Finally when the witches gave Macbeth the advice to Beware Macduff the thane of fife, he Murdered his family. What do a bunch of grunts calling out raunchy marching cadences have to do with pop culture? There s more to the cadence then just keeping soldiers in step, there is a deep sense of pride, patriotism, unity, motivation, and nostalgia, which can be found within these songs. The Military cadence is used to motivate, inspire, and foster company cohesiveness while keeping soldiers steps in time and hands down the rich oral traditions of the Army, Navy, Marines, and Air force. • 5. The House Of Candles Essay ABSTRACT: Wilfrid Wilson Gibson (1878 1962) occupies a distinct place among Georgian poets. His name is associated with such poets as Rupert Brooke, Edward Marsh, Walter de la Mare and Siegfried Sassoon. He has written a large number of poems on diverse themes like nature, love, unemployment and the sufferings of common people, old age and childhood. Besides, the plight of women also gets expression in some of his poems like Agatha Steel, The Operation, The Call, The Wound and many others. The House of Candles is such a poem that deals with the predicament of a woman in bearing an illegitimate child. Man and woman are equally responsible for the act of sexual intercourse out of wedlock. If this mating results in pregnancy of woman, it cannot be called an act of chance or accident. Unfortunately, society is of two minds towards female sexuality and in such circumstances women are blamed and all the punishment and criticism are meted upon them. No one cares for the man who is responsible for such condition of a woman. In fact, the society is real culprit for the predicament of women. • 6. Analysis Of Of Mice And Men And Oliver Twist Women of today or of the 21st century have the privilege of working, having an opinion and the right not to be ruled by men. However, women from the 19th and the 20th centuries were dependent on men, because only men were able to work good wages. The only job a woman had was to either be a housewife and mother or to be a prostitute. Nancy is a girl from Great London from the book Oliver Twist . She is a prostitute and a thief and she is the girlfriend of Bill Sikes. Curley s wife is a girl from the 20th century from the book Of Mice and Men , who is married to Curley and lives in California, USA. For this coursework, I am going to be exploring the presentation of these two characters, Nancy and Curley s wife, from the books Of Men and Men and Oliver Twist . The two characters were introduced by the authors Dickens and Steinbeck in a very negative yet interesting way. In Of Mice and Men Candy says to George, I think Curley s married a tart . Steinbeck uses dialogue to describe Curley s wife when Candy talks about her to George in a negative way. This tells readers how men have no respect for women because she is called a tart which means a slut, and conveys the idea that women were thought in a misogynistic manner by males in the 20th century. In the Victorian era, women were supposed to be properly attired and dressed ladylike. Dickens uses description to describe Nancy in an opposite manner, ....remarkably free and agreeable in their manners . She acted in a carefree ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For many years, the Philippine government has been a democratic republic. Filipino citizens have implemented this with the hopes of becoming liberated, but it isn t enough. Inside and outside the Philippines, there are various commentators of the improper behavior of the Filipinos. Hazy elucidation It is evident that the government system in the Philippines needs to be upgraded. Even others have the same views and opinions towards the government of the Philippines. We were wrong about some of our elected officials. Truthfully, it also has a little to do with our system. The surreal kind of Democracy that we possess is not our clear solution right now. It is convincing that the current Philippine government system is linking between democratic and authoritarian. It will be more likely to achieve more improvement if we change our system gradually. • 8. `` The Lottery `` By Shirley Jackson According to Philip Zimbardo the author of The Lucifer Effect: Understanding How Good People Turn Evil, he says Good people can be induced, seduced, and initiated into behaving in evil ways. They can also be led to act in irrational, stupid, self destructive, antisocial, and mindless ways when they are immersed in total situations that impact human nature in ways that challenge our sense of the stability and consistency of individual personality, of character, and of morality (Philip). In the short story The Lottery , author Shirley Jackson demonstrates Zimbardo s concepts in three different areas: Authority figures, Tradition and Superstition, and Loyalty. The first concept Jackson portrays in The Lottery is the authority figures. Jackson indicates that the lottery is being held in the town center by one authority figure, Mr. Summers, annually on June 27th. Every June 27th, without fail, townspeople gather in the town square to participate in the annually lottery even though most of them cannot recall nor question the origin of this event, and none bother to question if it is conducted fairly. Mr. Summers not only conducts the lottery as keeper of the black box, where he makes up the name slips, but is also the only authority figure who marks a black spot on the name slip that sends a person to death by stone. Jackson never discusses how Mr. Summers obtained such power over the town; but everyone in town unquestioningly complies with Mr. Summers s orders. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Should Mountaintop Removal Be Banned Since the 1970s, mountaintop removal continues to destroy millions of acres of land and hundreds of mountains primarily in eastern Kentucky, southern West Virginia, southwestern Virginia, and eastern Tennessee. That leaves many communities who are near mountaintop removal sites threatened by the explosions and the toxic waste that can potentially harm them. Mountaintop removal also has a big impact deforestation which can cause global warming and lead to many endangered species. Mountaintop removal should be banned because it involves permanent deforestation, it harms local communities by using explosives near their community and destroying their drinking water, and it harms the climate by emitting carbon dioxide from burning coal. Sostratus Lighthouse The most outstanding was the creation of Sostratus from Cnidus (III century BC) a sea lighthouse on the island of Pharos near Alexandria, which was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World (it has not survived to our time). It is a three tier tower 120 m high: its base was square, the middle tier had the shape of an octagon, and the upper tier was a round structure with statues that adorned it. At the top of the lighthouse, equipped with metal mirrors, the fire was constantly maintained. The lighthouse served as both an observation post and a fortress. • 12. Persuasive Essay On Why We Dream In my paper I will ask exactly what it is to dream and give my best explanation based on what others have learned and I have gathered on the subject. Even though scientists may not have many ways of researching how and why we dream today with our current technology we can however talk to the people who dream and study brain activity. In this paper I will address the research I have conducted on why we dream. As of right now scientists are all puzzled by this question. Partly because the technology we need in order to pinpoint a specific answer isn t developed at the current moment. However, through psychological and behavioral research we can come to means with several theories as to why we do dream. Whether it is the unconscious desires we get to experience at night or the molded slice of pizza we had for dinner before we went to bed. Many of the scientist that are currently working on this dilemma have asked some of the same questions. Like: what is dreaming, how does dreaming work, what causes bad dreams or nightmares, and how can we conduct research to find out? As of right now no one knows and there isn t an easy answer. However I can explain the stages of sleep and how they affect us and when we dream. Due to the lack of technology today no answer will come easy. However with enough persistence we may be able to establish a pattern and put meaning to them. Researchers working with neurologists have already started taking dreams and converting them to images. It is a song in which Marley s philosophic aphorisms ( Don t gain the world and lose your soul / Wisdom is better than silver and gold ) are as impactful as the most simplistic, commonly spoken adages (Oh, where there s a will / There s always ... While Get Up, Stand Up is the most obvious choice from this album, that song was written by Peter Tosh. On Duppy Conqueror, Bob, Peter and Bunny go ghost busting ( duppy means evil spirit). An early Lee Scratch Perry production, Duppy Conqueror is a classic tune about good over evil ( Don t try to cut me off on this bridge now / I ve got to reach Mt. Zion (the highest region) / So if you a bullbucka (bad spirit), let me tell you this / I m a duppy conqueror! ).Number Eight: Trenchtown Rock ( Live! ) 1975. Trenchtown Rock is quite possibly the greatest ghetto anthem ever penned. It is a song in which Marley recasts the ghetto experience from one of shame to one of pride ( Trenchtown rock / Don t turn your back / Trenchtown rock / I say give the slum a try / Trenchtown rock / Never let the children cry / Trenchtown rock or you got to tell Jah, Jah why ).Number Nine: The Heathen ( Exodus ) 1977. The primary purpose of the NSA is to gather and analyze information with the intent of preserving the national security and the safety of the citizens, especially from terroristic threats. In 2013, Edward Snowden, a contractor working for the NSA released classified information which showed that the agency was spying on Americans and collecting information without a warrant, which is against the law and Americans basic rights. Greenwald was one of the first journalists that Snowden had contacted when he was looking to leak the information. No Place to Hide is an account of all of the events leading up to, during, and after the news broke. An important basis of the book is the Fourth Amendment and the significance that Americans place on their right to privacy: The right of the people to be secure in their person, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches, seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized (Greenwald, 3). • 16. Analysis Of Plato s The Democratic Man Brandon Wilson Professor Evans Intro to Philosophy 4 March 2015 Plato s Democratic Man Plato describes the degeneration to democracy in Book VIII of The Republic as the relationship between man and the city. There are five stages starting with the first being and aristocracy led by a philosopher king who is wise and makes the decision for all and his soul is considered to be that of gold. Aristocracy stage leads to timocracy which would is the new generation of leaders and their souls are not considered to be made of gold as the philosopher king would be in the previous stage leading to a stronger lust for wealth. Timocracy then goes to oligarchy which leads to wealth and poverty, while the wealthy write laws to help them continue to be wealthy. Oligarchy then degrades to the democracy stage where wealth and freedom, a lavish of riches so to speak is desired in this stage. Democracy degenerates into tyranny where the people give into their desires and is considered to be chaos. Plato thinks that the philosopher king aristocracy would be the best type of government, one needs to ask would this type of government control man s appetite for wealth and luxuries? The kings would not themselves accrue wealth according to the republic, so where would it go, to the army, or to public education, or maybe back to the people to build better means to take care of themselves? These ideas he has are irrelevant because all the stages intertwine together in some form. They do not stray ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His name at birth was Asa Bundy Sheffey. He was raised, however, as Robert Hayden, the name given by his foster parents. Hayden s foster parents happened to live across the street from where Hayden was born. Hayden did not discover the story until later in life. Realizing this story helped shape his life as a poet. He established a lasting legacy of both postmodernism and African American achievement. At the same time, his poetry helped Robert Hayden discover who he was as a person. Hayden was extremely nearsighted as a child. He abandoned the notion of sports in favor of reading, eventually developing a deep seated love of reading that turned into a career as a poet and a legacy of many notable works. Montesquieu establishes rules regarding each republic, such as that all nations have peculiar purposes and that three powers exist in every political community. Therefore, a system of checks must be set in place in order to avoid such abuses and protect political liberty. Montesquieu continues, So that one cannot abuse power, power must check power by the arrangement of things. This separation is essential for England s unique goal of establishing political liberty. Although Montesquieu occasionally considers ancient republics in his chapters on England, he generally discusses them separately and does not often compare them, such as when he considers a balance of power. The English constitution ensures that no one body possesses the three powers which Montesquieu identifies. An individual who pursues these relationships can find many positive and unique aspects in developing relationships with those from other cultures. In contrast, there are those that tend to avoid people from other cultures due to preconceived ideas about certain people groups and uncertainty in communication as well as the desire to stay in their comfort zone in seeking others that are similar (Samovar pgs. 387 88). Personally, my own experience with intercultural relationships has provided for me a more balanced view of the world and the ability to look at my own culture in a whole new way. I believe in order to become more developed interculturally, it involves letting go of ethnocentrism. I discovered this was an area of struggle when I first moved abroad to China. It also has descriptive words like killer instinct and fight which describe my spirit. There are three assumptions that come to question when asking about one s identity. The first is if you were born with this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The two that are my favorite have the words Warrior and Competitor on them. These words were chosen to reflect my identity as a competitor and a warrior when it comes to mixed martial arts and life in general. One image on the identi kit shows the word Hayabusa which is the fastest falcon in the world. To me hayabusa means to be fast and quick but do not hurry. The Hayabusa is the fastest bird in the world that is fast and quick but does not screw up. My life revolves around working fast and quick but not to mess up at the same time. The images and phrases put together on the identi kit help others to identify me because they are all very descriptive and imaginative. The identi kit forms my identity to other people because to train and compete in mixed martial arts you have to be much disciplined, self motivated, and have the killer instinct to go and fight with another human being. I was born with my identity and at the same time influenced and made the choice to do what I do. My identity was created by all three assumptions of identity while with others it could be just one or two assumptions that made who they are. I was born with me living my life in the fast lane. I have to keep on moving and trucking without ever stopping. I was born with my killer instinct and passion for competition. My involvement in mixed martial arts was influenced and a choice. Everyone has their niche in life. Some people are good at football, others in academics, while I was good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
