Turning the tide 
following this inauspicious start, edtech: 
1. developed a very detailed plan and strategy document. 
We developed a version specifically for parents. 
2. focussed on vision for learning 
3. took every opportunity to consult with parents, and 
distributed copies of our vision statement and proposal for 
One to World.
Turning the tide 
4. We delivered a 6 week training course for parents so 
that they could experience our vision first hand. 
5. we demonstrated the value and actively and 
aggressively promoted it. 
6. we built a cohort of teachers and rallied under the One 
to World name and philosophy. We started training. 
7. we held a ‘town-hall’ meeting

We developed a version specifically for parents. 2. focussed on vision for learning 3. took every opportunity to consult with parents, and distributed copies of our vision statement and proposal for One to World.

  1. Games (at school) The adoption of 1:World learning brings with it the implementation of Mobile Device Management (MDM). All behaviours can be monitored while at school, and Apps can and will be blocked, including games. KIS takes responsibility for the use of iPads through strong management procedures and policies. iPad addiction at home Communicate with your child’s teacher about work that is being done. Follow your child’s class via Edmodo/Schoology, and/or class Twitter account Homework times should not change too much. How much homework was your child doing prior to the iPad? It should not change too much. If it is, maybe there is a distraction... Be familiar with how your child uses their iPad. Share usernames and passwords for all accounts. Take charge and share the device. Have an open space (or Homework area) in your home where your child will use their iPad for homework. Make learning and use of the iPad visible in the home. Set time limits and restrictions. A balanced lifestyle at home with technology in the mix has to be managed. Creating structures that are followed with consistency leads to improved outcomes Distractions The adoption of 1:World learning brings “with it the implementation of Mobile Device Management (MDM). My child is too young to handle this responsibility Children need to be taught how to take responsibility for their possessions. Paper is still better than electronic We support a policy of paper reduction, however this will be a process of gradual change, one that we have been participating in for a number of years. We support choice regarding textbooks, but in the future some of this choice is likely to be taken away from KIS as more textbook publishers shift to richer and multimedia forms of textbooks that paper cannot provide. Concerns about replacing teachers with iPads The iPad is a “game changer”, but it relies on a skilled teacher. Teachers will participate in ongoing professional development to move from Substitution to Redefinition (SAMR). The role of the teacher in a technology rich environment does however modify from preparing teaching opportunities, to preparing learning opportunities, where the feedback received helps to inform future planning. ”
