FTP / TCP Overview
• Provides reliability, error checking, ordered packets in a
stream
• Congestion control built in
• Internet could not survive without it
• Works well for most internet traffic, email, web browsing
small ad-hoc transfers (HTTP, FTP, SFTP, SMTP etc)

File Transfer Issues with TCP
• Flow control limits transmission window, causes dead air with
high latency
• Very aggressive in response to network congestion, cannot
tune in application layer
• Result is less than ideal performance on wireless, satellite, or
long haul links
• Can be tuned but still not ideal for many-one, one-many

TCP is a very serial process.
Each packet of data must be received before a
new packet is sent = Decreased transfer speed

• High performance for many small files
• Features that reduce amount of data transferred (Compression
and Incremental (RSYNC) )
• Security, reliability, automatic resume
• Automation tools, SDK, central management

Editor's Notes

  • #2 Start RECORDING!!!!! Thank you for joining us on this June Webinar. Today we will be featuring our integration within Premier Pro. We will be recording this webinar and we will be placing it on our website over the next coming days.
  • #3 < 2 minutes Elton. 2 Min Welcome: my name is Elton / and I’m the Indirect Channel Manager for FileCatalyst/. I am responsible for all partnerships / from an ISV as well as Channel perspective. thank you for joining us for this partner show case. / This webinar will show you how FileCatalyst can help you accelerate the ingestion and distribution of content within <Partner Product Name>. we will run these webinars on a regular basis / to share with you our partners solutions and show you how we work together FileCatalyst: ottawa based software company, around since 2000, have always provided file transfer solutions, since 2004 focused on accelerated file transfer solutions We are an emmy award winning company. products are horizontal, good fit for any industry who needs to / reliably, securely and effectively move data over the wan / all the while doing it in an efficient manner (ie accelerated and maxmizing bandwidth) verticals we sell into include broadcast&media, enterprise, oil&gas, medical, etc. some of our customers in the media&broadcast space: NBC (SNL, Jimmy Fallon, Sunday night football), Harpo, CBS, Dreaworks, TimeWarner, BBC, Bell Media, ZeeTV, Aljazeera
  • #4 30 seconds On the Agenda today, we will walk through an / Overview of the FileCatalyst Protocol / then I will introduce the TransferAgent, the client that was used in the integration with Premier Pro. Then we will take a look at the panel and perform a quick transfer We will not be showing any Advanced editing features in Premier Pro. We will have some time for Q and A at the end.
  • #5 FileCatalyst provides Enterprise grade Software solutions that allows movement of large data around the world. It is a patent pending technology that allows for accelerated file transfers using a unique UDP based approach. FileCatalyst simplifies complicated large file transfers for the enterprise end user. FileCatalyst has easy to use tools with an intuitive user interface. FileCatalyst also provides all the tools for integrating its technology into other products as well as existing enterprise infrastructures. FileCatalyst provides all the management, security and monitoring tools required ensure data is moved efficiently, securely and reliably across corporate networks. The FileCatalyst solution is also available on all major cloud vendors such as Amazon, OpenStack, Windows Azure and localized regional cloud providers through our cloud marketplace partners.
  • #6 What is TCP. TCP has been around a really long time. TCP is the underlying protocol for most applications we use on a daily basis. Email, Browsing the web as well as FTP. TCP Powers the internet. It was built well into the 70`s and is been around since then. It has been build for sending smaller data. It has never been designed to send larger data. However it is a protocol that handles data with the focus of reliability, error checking, congestion control and making sure data is intact however not with speed in mind. So it is great for sending small amounts of data.
  • #7 Here is an example of how TCP works. TCP sends data in a serial process. The sender will send a small amount of data and wait for an acknowledgement of all the sent data before proceeding to send more data. This makes TCP a very chatty protocol. Chatty in the sense that there is a lot of waiting and a lot of talking but not much data transfer.
  • #8 With FileCatalyst, the sender break down the file into blocks, and blocks into packets. Number each of these packets and send as many as it can on the network. Since the packets are numbered, the receiver will only request the packets that are missing opposed to acknowledging all the packets. This process eliminates the dead air on the line ensuring the entire link is maximized. During the transfer, the sender and receiver will also monitor the network for dropped packets or latency spikes. When this happens, it means that the sender is sending faster than what the link can handle. This is known as congestion. FileCatalyst has a congestion control algorithm built into the protocol to ensure over saturation is not encountered and other applications running on the same bandwidth are not starved for bandwidth. The congestion control can be tuned based on the priority of file transfers. In addition the congestion control algorithm can instantly detect the link capacity and have the transfer start at that rate.
  • #10 So in a nutshell, FileCatalyst will play fair on your network. FileCatalyst can transfer files up to 10Gbps in a single stream. FileCatalyst can be configured to transfer huge amounts of small files efficiently. FileCatalyst can also handle large files. In addition, FileCatalyst has features that reduce the amount of data sent across the wire. Compression on the fly will compress data in transit and decompress before the data is written to disk. Incremental Deltas will ensure only the parts of the file that are modified are transferred. FileCatalyst offers secure, reliable and managed transfers with the ability to automatically resume broken transfers. FileCatalyst has automation tools as well a strong SDK which can be used for integration into other products. FileCatalyst also has a Central management that provides a bird’s eye view of your entire deployment.
  • #13 1 min Now let us take a look at the FileCatalyst ISV Partner Ecosystem. Here is a list of some of our partners. The filecatalyst technology / can be integrated into any other software or hardware / out there that has a need for file transfer. FileCatalyst has an extensive suite of APIs / that can be used in any type of integration. We integrate with various applications in the broadcast sphere.
  • #17 At this time, I would like to invite our audience to ask any questions they may have. There is a question panel on the GoToMeeting webinar. As questions come in, I will read them out so that everyone can hear the question. DEFINE TWO QUESTIONS THAT WE CAN ASK IN CASE NO ONE ASKS QUESTIONS. Are they any speed/performance differences between using any of the clients vs using the Panel? Can I close down Premier Pro after I start a transfer?
  • #18 Thank you very much for joining us on for this June Webinar. We look forward to seeing you again at our next webinar. STOP RECORDING!!!!
