Analysis Of Esmerelda Santiago s Life
It s hard to say that comparing two individual s lives is an easy task. When looking at my life and
Esmerelda Santiago s life, the sociological imagination could be used to assist in doing that. The
following concepts will be used to better understand the surprising similarities and differences:
immigration, doing gender, conformist, double consciousness, deviance and traditional authority. I
will start by analyzing Esmerelda Santiago s life. Following that, I will analyze my life and will
finish with a conclusion that draws out the comparisons and differences of both. To begin,
Esmerelda Santiago and her family immigrated into the United States from Puerto Rico.
Immigration means, the movement of persons into a non native country. At this point in time the
family only consisted of Esmerelda, her seven younger siblings, Mami, Tata, TГo Chico, and Don
Julio. After moving around from apartment to apartment, they finally settled down in Brooklyn,
New York. Esmerelda explains that they came to Brooklyn, in search of medical care for my
youngest brother, Raymond, whose toes were nearly severed by a bike chain (Santiago 1998: 3).
Mami hoped for better medical attention for her child than she would have received in MacГєn,
Puerto Rico. Esmerelda also describes the apartment they currently lived in on McKibbin Street,
in New York as, more substantial that any of our houses in Puerto Rico (Santiago 1998: 6). This
shows her level of living back in Puerto Rico was a worse living

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Animation
INTRODUCTION
Animation is a process of creating an illusion of motion or movement or any change of shape of
any object or body by means of rapid display of a sequence of images that were different from each
other. It is a process of displaying still images. In animation, processes done by frames and in 1 sec
24 frames were cut to make an image.
The meaning of animation is to convert REAL WORLD into VIRTUAL WORLD. To animate
everything (non living thing) into virtual world. Basically to show everything real which would
not be possible in real world but it would in virtual world.
Animation starts by collecting various independent pictures and putting together to form the
illusion of continuous motion.

The most crucial work of dubbing, editing and addition of special effects takes place at this stage.
OVERVIEW:
To understand the concept of animation, its various modes, techniques and components. To gain a
broader view about important terms related to animation along with their advantages and
disadvantages. To understand the different types of animation techniques practically used in today s
world. We come to know about the production of animated films and how these new techniques
were used to develop such films. To understand the importance of animation in computer science. To
gain knowledge about editing, composing, writing, drawing, designing, modeling and lighting.
TECHNIQUES IN ANIMATION
1) TRADITIONAL ANIMATION:
Also known as Hand Written animation. Traditional or cel animation is the most popular form of
animation that involves hand drawn images. It was followed in 20th century. The process started
by deciding a story. The frames which were drawn by hand are basically photographs of drawing,
first drawn on a paper to create an illusion of movement where each frame or drawing must be
different from one another. The digital scanning has replaced the cel animation but the look is still
preserved and the job of the character still remains the

Negative Impact On Social Media
Social Media today seems like it is always compared to a drug, a lot of people are addicted to it.
Considering where technology is right now we aren t addicted to Social Media, it just turns out
to be our daily essential for information that we crave for. Technology has unlocked faster
communication and the ability to spread information quickly. Which allows us to connect with
the world and discover other people s perspectives, creating a more diverse view and opinion of
topics and information. In addition, not all information is truthful, especially the widespread of
fabricated news, but with technology and social media a lot of people can fact check information
instead of getting news from mainstream media outlets that alter news to acquire more revenue.
And if Social Media is so bad, why does everyone still use it everyday? With all that said, I think
that social media impacts people, especially Millennials more positive than negative considering
that it is a powerful tool that almost everyone can use. A plethora of information with diverse
perspectives at your fingertips and accessing it in an instant. I believe that smartphones and
computers is a growing standard among Millennials now for daily living, people can find out about
news and information all around the world in an instant at the comfort of their home. In the article

Punishment Utilitarianism
If the offender of the law is indeed worthy of being punished, how then would utilitarianism justify
the degree to which the individual is punished? With the ultimate ends to punishment being the
promotion of the greatest good, the proportions to which coercive force is used are determined via
subordinate ends. These subordinate ends define the punishment as only positive as a response to
the initial crimethe secondary act of evilness by punishment is what allows the injustice of the crime
to be righted, inducing the prospect of a brighter future. Bentham goes on to suggest that these
proportions must ensure that the offender loses the motivation to commit future mischief, must be
proportionate to the extremeness of the act committed (by

Malvolio
In Julien and my Vine, we wanted to show how Malvolio s by the book lifestyle and his love for
Olivia led to his humiliation. At the start of the Vine, we put a picture of a man, Malvolio, looking
longingly at a woman, Olivia. Throughout the play we have seen Malvolio s apparent love and care
for Olivia and her household. We continued with Malvolio s other attempt at recognition, including
the yellow stockings, the smiling, his serious attitude, his rejection of love, his sense of order, and
finally, his want for loved. All these attempts to obtain Olivia s recognition are potential causes for
his humiliation.
From the first act to the final scene of the play we can see the apparent love Malvolio has for
Olivia. Understandably, Malvolio wants the best for her being that he is one of her top servants.

Malvolio is brought in by Fabian to see that the love of his life, Olivia, is with a new man. The
men think their jokes are all fun and games until the final scene when Malvolio confronts Olivia
about the letter. Olivia who is unaware of the jokes being played, responds with, Have I,
Malvolio? No!... this is not my writing... Tis Maria s hand (5.1. 318. 333 344). Malvolio doesn t
know how to react to the news of his crush being taken away and that the letter was phoney. This
doesn t seem to get much attention from the surrounding crowd because immediately after they
start talking about other matters. The only thing Malvolio can say is, I ll be reveng d on the
whole pack of you! (5.1.365). The jokes played on Malvolio were taken to another level when
they created Olivia s false love for him. Was it this or was it that Malvolio was so blind from the
love that he couldn t see anything? Either way Malvolio s love for Olivia concluded with him

St. Thomas Aquinas Cosmological Argument
Catholic Church:
St. Thomas Aquinas (Cosmological Argument)
In St. Thomas Aquinas s cosmological argument claims the following that the universe exist and its
very existence has a cause and that cause is God. In his unfinished book Summa Theologiae,
Aquinas put forward five ways for the existence of God.
His first way is the argument from motion and by studying the works of Aristotle, the Greek
Philosopher, he concluded from common observation that the planets, rolling stone or any object
that is in motion is put in motion by other forces or object. From this theory, Aquinas believes there
must have been an unmoved mover which is God who sets things in motion. It is certain and
evident that in the world some things are set in motion. Whatever is in motion is put in motion by
another. Therefore, by which it is put in motion must also be put in motion by another and by
another again but this cannot go for infinity because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The final way that St. Thomas Aquinas speaks of has to do with the universe and the order of
nature. Aquinas states that common sense tells us that the universe works in such a way, that one
can conclude that it was designed by an intelligent designer. In other words, all physical laws and
the order of nature and life were designed and ordered by God. Because whatever lacks in
intelligence cannot move towards an end, unless it be directed by some being with knowledge and
intelligence. Some intelligent being exists by whom all natural things are directed to their end, and
this being we call God. This argument by Aquinas is suggesting that inanimate objects such as the
planets could not have placed themselves into the orbits they have, because they lack the
intelligence to do so. Yet they are aligned so perfectly, this must mean it must have been done so by
a being with the intelligence to do so. Although we humans are intelligent, we cannot move planets,
so that leaves us with

Gibbon Research Paper
Gibbons eat a wide variety of foods. Their diet is comprised mostly of fruit, but also contains
leaves, flowers and insects. Figs are the primary component of a gibbon s diet, making up about
a quarter of what gibbons eat daily. Depending on the availability and scarcity of other foods
however, figs can be up to fifty percent of their daily intake. Diet varies by season and availability.
For example, during cooler seasons the availability of flowers is higher, and during hotter, wetter
seasons fresh fruitis more abundant. Regardless of the changes in availability however, fruit
always comprises at least fifty percent of a gibbon s diet. Beyond fruit, gibbons have been found to
eat over one hundred different speciesof plants. Leaves, vines,

external environment of the motorcycle industry one must look, and identify these forces; they are
the economy, national environmental forces, social, cultural, demographic forces, governmental,
political forces, legal forces, and the competitive forces. The three statics of Harley Davidsons is;
revenue, growth rate, and number of units that are sold. The manufacturer of the United States

percent of the broad United States motorcycle exchange. Harley Davidson has fifty two percent

company has sold two hundred and twenty three thousand twenty three units, and showed a thirty

Parenting Over Time
Do you ever think that you re parents are favoring your sister over you? Or that they let your
brother do something that they don t let you? There is a reason for this. Parents raise the future of
our society and raise children to be good samaritans and humans. Parenting over time has taken
great changes, due to technology and discoveries. Phones and tracking has given parentinga
different spin on letting their children go and do more things. Parenting can be different for every
familybecause everyone has different rules and regulations. Though one thing that stays universal
through time and parenting is that parenting is different for girls than for boys. For the majority of

There are different parenting techniques causes adults to treat boys and girls different bases off the
Self Determination Theory. To understand The Self Determination Theory Joyce Endendijk states
that, parental control strategies can be defined as any strategy that a parent uses to alter, change, or
influence their child s behavior, thoughts, or feelings (Endendijk, 2). The self determination is
caused by different types of parenting. The first type of parenting that alter the parenting ways for
gender is Coercive parenting, which refers to strategies of parenting that force a child to do
something, instead of giving them motivation to do it. The children are given external pressures,
harsh declining, and internal pressures, thought and feelings. Parents use guilt induction, shaming,
criticism, invalidation of the child s feelings, and do not act like they love them which greatly
affects the child. This type of parenting is given differently towards boys than to girls. Girls are
given a different way of their thoughts being change. For girls this parents gives the girl a negative
effect for not being a perfect girl , or comparing their daughter to other girls. Likewise, for boys
they are also given different pressures to give them a negative internal feeling. Moreover, the Self
Determination Theory also describes the Autonomy supportive strategies. In which they provide the
child with an appropriate amount of control, a desired amount of choice, acknowledge the child s
perspectives, and provide the child with meaningful rationales when choice is constrained
(Endendijk, 2). In this strategy, the parent gives their children more freedom, than control, but they
still have discipline in their parenting. This is widely based off of the parents connection with their
children. In the majority of scenarios mother tend to have a stronger

Bullying on School Campuses
| Bullying on School Campuses| |
I. Introduction
Parents are way overprotective these days; getting picked on by tougher kids and hassling weaker
ones is just a part growing up. It is how they learn to deal with the real world. A statement heard by
many people from adults. Unfortunately, this statement is incorrect. Throughout the course of years
the US Department of Justice and Education indicate that more than eighty percent (80%) of public
elementary and secondary schools report experiencing at least one violent incident ranging from
bullying and physical fights to rape and assault with a weapon. (ProQuest Staff) This shows there
is a need for change in society. A parent guardian as well as a student would want to be... Show

In fact, on his transcript to his new school the principal stated that he was a class bully. The child
too sick, too scared, too angry to go to school was the one the students classified as the terrorizing
one; not recognizing he was the lonely, helpless one. Why does this sort of thing continue? The
apathy of schools is to blame, mainly, apart from the cruelty of some children to others. III. Impact
We need to teach schools how to deal with bullies and bullying. Students who come to
administration with a concern are not tattle tales. And if you believe they are, that is fine. Also
know that police officers and judges are tattle tales too. In fact, by not saying anything we are
condoning the bully s actions and telling them that it is okay to bully. Students need to know that it
is okay to talk to someone / anyone about being bullied. We need anti bullying restrictions shown
more around the school for an effort to stop bullying in my opinion.
Almost half of public high schools have a problem with bullying, but if you look at our student
discipline/conduct section in the policies for the school there are more disciplinary actions taken
for the usage of a cell phone or being tardy to a class then there is for bullying. In researching this
subject, I never found an article that s linked cell phone usage to suicide brought on by depression.
Schools claim they do everything to create a safe and

Hypertension Is The Medical Term For Having High Blood...
In this project Jose, Diana, Adrian and I were tasked with producing a menu for persons with
hypertension and a nut allergy. Hypertension is the medical term for having high blood pressure.
One of the main causes of hypertension is a poor diet. It is affected most commonly by high
levels of sodium (Pg. 321). To combat high blood pressure, the DASH diet was developed. DASH
stands for dietary approaches to stop hypertension. Foods that are recommended to eat while on the
DASH diet are whole grains, fruits and vegetables, fat free or low fat dairy, lean meat, poultry,
fish, nuts, seeds, beans, fats and oils, sweets, and sodium limited to under 2400 milligrams per
day (Pg. 322). The only perceivable obstacle for the menu development was the recommendation
for nuts. However, the nutrients provided through nuts can be found in other foods like fats and
oils and various protein sources. The first item on the menu is a quinoa patty as an appetizer.
The dish contains quinoa, carrot, celery, onion, egg, olive oil, peppers, and a dash of salt. We
chose this as our appetizer because it appears to follow the DASH diet quite well. Quinoa is a
whole grain; carrots, celery, onions, and peppers represent the fruits and vegetables category; the
egg is not a low fat dairy product, but the amount of egg in the recipe is very minimal; olive oil is
a fat and oil, and the quinoa patties are lightly salted in an attempt to keep flavor yet stay under the
recommended daily limit. The first entree

Crime And Punishment Conservatism
The novel Crime and Punishment was written during a time when science based ideas about
civilization and evolution were beginning to replace religious or mystical ideas. Many people,
under the guise of being intellectuals, subscribed to these theories and promoted them because the
theories made them seem superior to their fellow men. Author Fyodor Dostoevsky incorporated
many of these theories into the perspectives of the characters in his novel, suggesting that despite
their presentation as new or revolutionary, they were simply re workings of older ideas re fitted
for the modern era. Dostoevsky uses Raskolnikov s idea about extraordinary people and
Lebezyatnikov s idea about communes to criticize Social Darwinismand aspects of Radicalism
respectively. By linking the theories with his characters, he also criticizes the type of people who
subscribed to these theories.
Dostoevsky outlines two conflicting theories about crime and humanity that emerged during Russia
s modernization period in the novel. One view, presented by Razumikhin, explains that the
individual is a victim of his environment and the other, held by Raskolnikov, states instead that the
individual is a product of his environment. Raskolnikov s view actually reinforces pre
modernization ideas about a social hierarchy with nobility on top. Similar to the pre modern idea

Fool in William Shakespeare s King Lear Essay
Fool in William Shakespeare s King Lear
The Fool s function in King Lear is to create emphasis on the tragedy in the play and give insight
into the characters true nature. He shows other characters nature though blunt comments and earns
himself the name of all licensed Fool , as he clearly states peoples inner personality.
He develops the tragedy though a theme of madness and instability, from his use of poems and
rhymes intermingled with standard prose, which even then is full of cryptic phrases and drivel.
This, also, creates a dramatic atmosphere, as the lines of his riddle are short with a quick tempo.
However, the Fool was not just used in King Lear. There were many other ... Show more content on

He also states his point of view towards Lear s decision to banish Cordelia, and believes Lear to
be a sweet and bitter fool for this action. This shows one of his functions is to comment on
relationships and characters.
The Fool s views on the situation here emphasise the atmosphere of madness and tragedy that
Shakespeare is trying to portray to the audience. The Fool s function is therefore to make us feel
pathos towards Lear s folly and Cordelia, and clarify Goneril and Regan s hatred towards their
father. In addition to this, he adds contrast to the tragedy through his use of poems and riddles in
this scene, which creates a comical element. The Fool creates most of his desired functions
through these changes in his style of language. Throughout the play, the Fool talks in riddles and
poems amid normal prose. He uses this to confuse Lear and for comic relief, which I have
already mentioned as one of his functions. This also keeps the audience and Lear interested in his
conversation. The Fool s language makes Lear want the Fool to teach [him] . The Fool s function
is to also add irony to the play in the statement, already pronounced by Lear, Nothing comes out of
nothing . This creates irony, as ultimately nothing is precisely what Lear ends with. In Act I scene
IV one of the Fool s poems is;
That lord that counsell d thee

High School Dropout Research
Growing Trends in High School Drop outs
One of the major concerns of education is the rate of students who are dropping out of school.
Statistically, the dropout rate has decreased from a national average of 15 percent in 1972 to 10
percent in 2003, according to the National Center for Education Statistics, which rated 16 24 year
olds (Child Trend, 2003). Though, there has been signs of a decrease, drop out rates continue to be
a concern to the public because of the potential consequences and financial costs to the government.
On the academic level, many schools are incapable of handling the new faces in the education
realm. Thus, it forces many students to leave school without a diploma. The drop out rates appears

A concern of the statistical data of high school dropouts is the disparaging number of minority
students who drop out of high school in comparison to whites and Asians. A 1993 research by John
Hopkins University flagged 2,000 high schools across the country as potential dropout factories
because 40 percent or more of their freshmen fail to make it to 12th grade on time (Viadero,
2004). These schools are in medium and bigger size cities and have a significant black and
Latino student population. Florida is the one exception, where many of the failing students are
rural white. In 2003, it was estimated that 6 percent of whites, in comparison to 12 percent of
blacks had dropped out of school (Child Trend, 2003). The primary reason appears that these
school districts have a variety of disadvantages, such as resources and money to improve schools
and programs. These schools are located in lower socio economic communities. However, these
disadvantaged students are judged on the same achievement standards as students who live in
higher economic districts with better resources and tools. Latin Americans constitute the highest
percentage of high school dropouts. 24 percent of Latin Americans dropped out of school in 2003
(Child Trends, 2003). This is a significant number because there are just as many Latin Americans
dropping out of school as whites. Yet, Latin Americans represent slightly above 15 percent of the
population. The

The Dark Side Of The Snow Falls
While the snow falls behind the rusted bars, the King is laughing alone in the dungeon. His
guffaws echo back by the moist cobblestone and bounce off to nothing but the warm body of the
dead on the bloody wooden table. In contrast to the sticky red is a shiny crown and a bubbling

poison and pours down into his throat. Once upon a time, there was a young man who could

Whenever there was a chance, he would go to the garden behind the village. Watching fields of

changing into orange grabs are the things he like to do the most. He liked to stay in the garden
rather than helping his grandparents farm, but he would always use his ability to secretly support

The Importance Of Effective Communication Skills
I have developed my effective communication skills over the past few years whilst working both
my current jobs; Vue Cinema and Sainsbury s, whilst studying Law at Leeds Beckett University.
In order to effectively communicate with others I believe it is essential to listen to, not just hear
people s views. This includes what words have been spoken, but also how they have been spoken,
taking note both the person s body language and tone of voice.
An example of when I have utilised this skill is when I notice customers struggling with their
packing at Sainsbury s and I volunteer to help them, even if I am currently not serving them.
Customers often do not ask for help, but I assess the situation through a customer s body language
and facial expressions to determine whether to help. Packing, even though a seemingly small task,
involves constant effective communication, this allows myself to understand the customer s
requirements and needs as to how and what should be packed. Effective communication builds a
colleague customer relationship, in result creating a trust between them and the company.
Effective communication also involves being aware of others emotions i.e. being sympathetic to
other people s misfortune and using empathy to put yourself in the other persons shoes . I use first
names where appropriate, this helps to build a relationship with the person I am talking to, making
them my equal. Effective communication involves good eye contact, I make and maintain eye

Jon Krakauer’s Into the Wild and Tim O’Brien’s How
to Tell...
People try to understand the world through perception of experiences that they encounter. These
encounters include either living through the experience first hand or the experience being
conveyed by another person. Our perception weeds out main ideas from those experiences deeming
them realistic and if so labels them truths. However, our perception of the obtained truthfrom those
experiences is not always credible because as a recipient we are restricted to the amount of
experience we can retain. Meaning the perceptions of the labeled truths is a result of our translation
of incomplete experiences into new perception resulting from what he or she could retain from the
original experience. Those incomplete experiences give rise to new... Show more content on

Due our limitations as recipients, which cause truth to vary among us, discovering truth becomes
impossible because of its constant changes.
When we encounter experiences through person to person, alterations occur at times on purpose
by the conveyor on the experience so the translation by the recipient can result in the closest
experience to the experience retained by the conveyor. These changes highlight the retained ideas
in the experience, allowing it to remain a truth, O Brien explains, when you go to tell about it,
there is always that surreal seemingness, which makes the story untrue, but which in fact
represents the hard and exact truth as it seemed (O Brien 442). As a recipient of an experience
one is bound by only the translation of the experience one can retain, so when the conveyor tells
his or her experience/story. The conveyor emphasizes the experience retained causing the
alterations in the experience but this allows the recipient to translate a truth similar to the
conveyor. Those translations are also seen in Krakauer s writings, where Krakauer show

Examples Of Diction In Beowulf
Beowulf speaks volumes about the ways of life during the Anglo Saxon period. It is to England
what Homer s Odyssey and Iliad are to Greece. It is, as some call it, the mother poem of England.
This mother poem has been passed down through oral tradition for numerous years and scholars
believe that an educated Christian monk transcribed the poem, preserving it in written form.
Beowulfhas survived for nearly 1,300 years due to how well it conveys the Anglo Saxon culture
and the unique characteristics of the poem in its imagery, tone, style and diction. This epic poem
depicts picturesque imagery of various kinds. It is acutely gruesome in many instances, such as the
battle with Grendel and the description of hell s captive and his mother. The... Show more content

With much alliteration, imaginative kennings, and caesura. The narrator uses strong alliteration
and does so quite intricately, using single, double and triple alliterations at points throughout the
poem; such as in lines 30 32, Then, when darkness had dropped, Grendel / Went up to Herot,
wondering what the warriors / Would do in that hall when their drinking was done. (L. 30 32)
The narrator frequently uses kennings in this poem. A kenning in Anglo Saxon literature is a
metaphorical phrase or compound word that names an event, person, place, or thing indirectly.
There are four different types of kennings that the narrator uses within Beowulf which are
prepositional phrase (ex. shepherd of evil = Grendel, guardian of crime = Grendel), hyphenated
compound (ex. sea road = the ocean, ring giver = king), possessive (ex. God s bright beacon =
the sun), and open compound (ex. wakeful sleeper = Beowulf) kennings. A unique quality of the
style of Beowulf is caesura, which is seen in nearly every line within the poem. Caesura is a
characteristic of Old English poetry; it is a pause or a break within a line of poetry and it is usually
indicated by the natural rhythm of the language. Alliteration coincides with caesura; usually the
first stressed syllable before the caesura alliterates with the first stressed syllable after the

What Does It Mean To Be A Feminism Essay
The F Word
What does it mean to be a feminist. The meaning has taken many twists and turns throughout the
various decades it s been through. Society has transposed, humiliated and belittled the true purpose
of the word Feminism. Often, when we hear the word feminist, most people associate it with the
stereotypical image of an angry protester running in her bra down the streets. Or perhaps the image
of an Ugly philosopher who is angry for not receiving male attention. Feminism still exists because
women still do not have equal rights to men, in New Zealand or globally. I would like to re
establish the rightful definition of Feminism.
When a vote was released in the united states regarding gender equality among women, 41%
voted yes and 59% voted no. However, the backlash of this vote stated that it was Unfair and
simply filled with feminists and Gender Snobs . Any woman who openly states that she is a
feminist is automatically judged and labelled as Man hater and a radical female . The real
definition of a feminist is the advocacy of women s rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes
. So why is our society discriminating and judging any person who openly admits to wanting equal
rights for women? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Module Brands And Branding Essay
1. Introduction
In this report for the first assessment of the module Brands and Branding I will critically discuss
the growing importance and meaning of brands in contemporary consumer culture. Brands are
omnipresent in todays life. Everywhere you look around you can see different brands. Our life
with brands already starts early in the morning when we get up out from our bed, which was made
by a company with his own brand. We go to the bathroom to brush our teeth with a toothpaste e. g.
from „Colgate . Thats the way we go though the day. We write messages via „Whatsapp from
a smartphone often from a big company like Apple or Samsung. Apple for an example is a brand
which produces a smartphones, tablets, laptops or watches. But the names of these products are
also brands. When I am thinking about the first smartphone my first thought rises the „iPhone
and „Steve Jobs . A Person and an advanced mobile phone, but also they both are brands for
themselves. So you can see we are so „manipulatet by big brands that I had no chance to think
about any other brand which also produce well designed smartphones with a high usability.
They are not only lifestyle gadges which grew importance of brands. We can take a look at the
brand Rolex for example. Rolex has his origin in Germany before the watchmaker has founded
Rolex as a company in Switzerland in 1908. This company has a very long tradition an his
watches carring their original value over decades. It is not a fashion brand and

In middle school, I was not popular. I was kind of an outcast. I hated the popular kids my whole
life, yet always aspired to be one. I hung out with the girls who listened to k pop, watched anime,
and loved alternative music more than life. I had popular friends, but they only spoke to me,
when their other friends were not around. I was typically a person who takes humiliation to

which I didn t think were funny. People have told me No you re black. or Why are you here?

science of genetics. He conducted pea plant experiments between 1856 and 1863 through which he
established many of the rules of heredity, now referred to as the laws of Mendelian inheritance.
Mendel s Law of Inheritance:
This law involves inheritance of biological features. In 1915 Mendel s theories were integrated with
the Boveri Sutton chromosome theory of inheritance by Thomas Hunt Morgan and they became the
core of classical genetics. Then in 1930 Ronald Fisher combined them with the theory of natural
selection in his book The Genetical Theory of Natural Selection, this put evolution onto ... Show

Law of Independent Assortment
The Law of Independent Assortment states that alleles for separate traits are passed from parents to
offspring independently from each other. Proof of this principle was achieved through dihybrid and
monohybrid cross experiments. Independent assortment occurs in eukaryotic organisms during
meiotic metaphase I, and produces a gamete with a mixture of the organism s chromosomes. The
physical basis of the independent assortment of chromosomes is the random orientation of each
bivalent chromosome along the metaphase plate with respect to the other bivalent chromosomes.
Along with crossing over, independent assortment increases genetic diversity by producing many
genetic combinations.
Law of Dominance
Mendel s Law of Dominance states that recessive alleles will always be masked by dominant
alleles. This means a cross between a homozygous dominant and a homozygous recessive will
always express the dominant phenotype whilst still having a heterozygous genotype. Proof of this
principle was achieved using a mono hybrid cross experiment: In a cross between two organisms
of contrasting traits the trait that is expressed is called dominant and the trait that is suppressed is
called recessive.
Dominance and Co dominance
Dominance and co dominance was discovered by Gregor Mendel when he found that if two
parents with different variations of a similar trait were cross bred, the offspring would only display

some of the biggest corporate collapses in history have brought about a change in focus. No longer

Thus the rules which have helped these corporations to prosper will be perpetuated. This in turn
makes the interest group stronger and allows for continued divergence. Bebchuk and Roe accept
that there are other reasons for the huge differences between countries legal systems. The size of
the economy and the nature of business therein must play a part in the types of governance
systems created. Cultural differences must also affect the laws, at a more fundamental level.
Conclusion In 2000 Katarina Pistor wrote a paper which examined convergence/divergence issue
in transition economies. She concluded that a simple convergence story does not do justice to the
complexity of legal change (Pistor 2000, pp. 27). On of the key issues raised in this paper was
that legal convergence in transition economies is mainly because of an external supply of legal
solutions, and not as a result of the adaptation of successful strategies. Another point was that in
many countries, it appeared that systems were developed in response to problems and not with a
long term goal in mind. In general, it is clear that neither the convergence or divergence models, tell
us the whole story. Whilst some level of convergence has been observed, the persistence of
divergence is undeniable. The importance of path dependency in determining the corporate

When humans experience excessive stress, whether from internal worry or an external
circumstance, stimulus occurs and triggers a reaction called the fight or flight response. This
response is built into our brains and is designed to protect us from bodily harm, preparing our
body for running or fighting. Throughout Lord of the Flies by William Golding, The Destructors
by Graham Greene, and the article Thirty Eight Who Saw Murder Didn t Call the Police by Martin

The Literacy Education Is Not A New Issue
There is a prevalence of underprepared students entering postsecondary education. The College
Board (2013) reports as many as 57% of students completing the SAT exams did not meet the
benchmark for college level coursework; this figure may present low, as it does not necessarily
include the countless students who do not attempt the test, as they are planning on attending
postsecondary schools not requiring these scores for admissions or not planning on continuing their

The opportunity exists to place the liability of underprepared students on secondary education;
concentrating on a flurry of mitigating factors existing within secondary education. Learners may
arrive underprepared because they had not planned to attend a postsecondary school; possibly, a
high school college track was not studied. Students may have originated from underprivileged
school districts and communities, and may not have had the advantages of solid school budgets,
staff, or technology. First generation students may also prove to be underprepared, as they exhibit
uncertainty as to what is required for college preparation. Inappropriate high school promotion or
an academic skill gap demonstrates another pool of students presenting as underprepared.
Subsequently, students may have suffered a delay between initial knowledge acquirement and
postsecondary enrollment; recognized when a required high school course may have concluded in
the junior year with over a year break in preparation. Realistically, there are numerous causes we
can attribute to students arriving on campus underprepared. The true motivation to designating

prepare students to be ready to learn and develop at a college level.

Most solar storms produce a variety of effects on our planet. The intensity of a solar storm
increase gradually, the storm can begin to develop the capacity to create a major disaster on
Earth. The variety of intensity of solar storm is like the difference between being hit with a

would have the capacity to produce a cascading blackout involving the entire Northeastern sector

The woman s personal beliefs can be innate from learning experiences or a genetic inheritance that
reflects her personality type. Innate learning experiences or genetic inheritances of accepting people

The family inquiring about the apartment rental may have an influence regarding the woman s

How Does Bradbury Create Tension In Fahrenheit 451
In the book Fahrenheit 45, Ray Bradbury utilizes the two characters Mille and Clarisse to
develop tension in the book. He also uses them to reveal a deeper understanding of what would
happen if people let technology take over for their own personal thoughts. The characters create a
tension in the main character Montag s life due to their completely opposite ways of thinking

by making living without thinking possible. Millie s character represents the effect of living life

Her parents always encouraged her to have her own opinion and stand her ground. Unaware of
the severity of the incoming doom of her nation and people, Satrapi s rebellious spirit oftentimes
placed her in risky situations. Her childhood was unusual, not only because she had to find a
way to survive the Iranian Revolution and other conflicts, but also because of her family s
position in society. Satrapi is descended from Iranian aristocrats, with her maternal great
grandfather being a Persian Emperor from 1848 to 1896 and her grandfather being a prince.
Satrapi s family could be described as Marxist intellectuals who enjoyed the good life (cite simon

Cadillac, and eating at the finest places. Her childhood was filled with more books than toys and
she always pleaded with her parents to join them in the demonstrations against the Shah. Satrapi,
adapting the persona of Marji in her book, would even pretend to be a revolutionary with her

Analysis Of Upton Sinclair s Lord Of The Flies
Writing has always been the primary vehicle for social commentary and reform. From Upton
Sinclair s damning exposure of the meat processing industry in The Jungle, to George Orwell s
grave warning concerning communism in Animal Farm, to William Goulding s disturbing look at
human nature post World War 2 in Lord of the Flies, countless authors have attempted to expose
flaws in their society through writing. Rome, as a growing republic, and later as a sprawling
empire, was consistently rife with corruption, abuse of power, and the degradation of morals.
Writers like Sallust, Juvenal, and Tacitussaw these social flaws as opportunities, whether to drive
social or political change, or to increase their influence, or just to make a statement to the
government and the Roman people. However, these three writers each took a different approach to
his commentary. Through comedic hyperbole and satire, Juvenal looked to expose the moral
degradation of Roman women in Satire VI. On the other hand, Sallust focused on political
corruption in the late Roman Republic, using the history of the Jugurthine War as a lens by which
to observe the corruption he despised. With yet another approach, Tacitus aimed to criticize despots
like Emperor Domitian and to denounce imperialism through the biography of Agricola, the Roman
general who conquered Britain.
The Jugurthine War (114 118) (Marius s speech) Living from 86 to 35 BC, Gaius Sallustius
Crispus, more commonly knowns as Sallust, was the

Why Are There So Many Sufferings In The Bible
The first part is a biblical view about person s whole life. Everything in life should come under
the authority of Scripture. Proverbs mentions the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
Nowadays, there are so many sufferings in people s life. People would say reasons by chemical
imbalance, brain s diseases making them change. Then they use brain science research to be
excuses for their misbehaviors such as cussing, hitting and so on. Way back to the biblical view of
the creation. Godcreated all things including the brain. Human were made with soul and body.
Body and spirit were once seamlessly joined together. People s sins bring sufferings in our life with
both physical or spiritual problems. The physical problems can not make

Weightage: 15% Title of essay: E commerce refers to the buying and selling of products and
services by businesses and consumers over an electronic medium like the Internet. One of the
advantages of e commerce is that it allows businesses to promote and sell their products and
services online, enabling them to reach both the local and international market conveniently. Some,
on the other hand, argue that it still lacks the personal touch which is vital in business development.
In your opinion, will e commerce replace the traditional business transaction within the next ten
years? Traditional business transactions have continued for 3000 years since the invention of
money and is well valued and appreciated. Though most people are accepting technology as part of
their lives now, the more old fashioned ones still prefer to do things the traditional way. It is hard to
convince them of the benefits technological advancement has brought to our lives with their strong
opinion on tradition. Despite these old fashioned... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

amount. Besides avoiding spending on petrol and transportation, e shoppers can also avoid the
hassle of finding parking. They can shop leisurely at home in their own time without the constant

Characters And Evil In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
In the beginning of William Golding s novel Lord of the Flies , readers meet four young boys
from ages 11 13 who have been stranded on a deserted island with no adults after a flight from
home. Readers come to understand the relationship between Ralph, Jack, Simon and Piggy get
complicated and violent once all laws and rules have disappeared by the end of the novel, 2 boys
are dead and the have changed dramatically. In his Nobel Prize acceptance speech for the novel,
Golding stated that, ... men produce evil as bees produce honey. His statement is that Golding
believes that human nature is automatically evil; he is right.
Golding s view is that evil exists in all humans from birth; he is right. In the lord of the flies the
author shows this clearly. They re all dead, said Piggy, an this is an island. Nobody don t know
we re here. Your dad don t know, nobody don t know His lips quivered and the spectacles
dimmed with mist. we may stay here till we die . ( 14 )This passage says Piggy is doubting
about being rescue. When he says, they re all dead, he is referring to the people who were in the
airplane with them before they ended up in the island. When Golding writes that Piggy s lips
quivered, this shows us that piggy is afraid. This matters to the central idea of human nature
because there s fear in the boys.In the lord of the flies , the author reinforces this idea. If I blow
the conch and they don t come back; then we ve had it. We shan t keep the fire

What Are the Strengths and Weaknesses of the Policy Making...
The policy making process in CA plays an instrumental role in the prosperity and quality of life
that exist today, and will exist in the future for CA. Public policy can be defined as a public
response to public problems. It s what the government says and does about these problems. Policy is
when governmentand nongovernmental agents work together to create solutions for the public at
large. The policyactors are formal, as well as informal; they are individuals or groups, which bring
about the influence needed to implement public solutions. There are numerous issues within CA
that are increasing the strain placed on the policy making process. The biggest challenge CA faces
in the next few decades is meeting the needs of a growing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In order to create the best political strategy, there is no question that you must have the ability to
raise a lot of funds. The CA constitution says that governmental authority is to be shared with the
voters. They should have the ability to voice their opinions through the initiative process, the
recall, and the referendum. However, the input of the people in CA is muffled by the glass
ceiling we the minorities face. You might be wondering how we are the minority. We are the
minority in CA because we don t have the money to represent ourselves, and so we are left out in
the cold. This is a problem because we are the individuals in society that have the first hand
experience, and the knowledge needed to educate our political actors on the areas within society
that need to be addressed for changes. Changes that could affect the lives of every individual; we
make up the largest part of the population of the state, we are the foundation that supports our
society, and we re the ones that are left out. The process adopted within the policy making
infrastructure today, dedicates access to those who are economically elite in CA. Unless minorities
are given the means to be heard by political actors, the instabilities in the foundation of our society
will continue to be ignored, and CA s future success will remain unpredictable. Within the
legislature there is a lot of discretion in defining, implementing, and

What Is Brown V Board Of Education Essay
Although American schools were technically desegregated by the landmark U.S. Supreme Court
decision handed down in Brown v. Board of Education, in practice they remained largely segregated
due to trends in housing and neighborhood segregation. Consequently, busing came to be a main
remedy by which the courts sought to end racial segregation in the U.S. schools. The court s 1970
ruling in Swann v. Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of Education furthered desegregation efforts by
upholding busing as a constitutional means to achieve integration within a school district. Due to
patterns of residential segregation, busing became a principal tool for promoting school
desegregation, by which minority students were transported to largely white schools and white
students were brought to largely minority schools. It was intended to safeguard the Civil Rights of
students and to provide equal opportunity in public education. Also, busing was an... Show more

Board of Education case initially accomplished relatively little in terms of achieving a truly
integrated public education system. The Supreme Court said in 1954 that schools should be
integrated, but in the following year, the court allowed the opponents of desegregation to frame
the process. Due to the program not receiving sufficient support, allocating sufficient money with
which to function well, indifferently staffed, and many areas of resistance, the case consequently
remained immobile. However, the Brown v. Board decision itself was a huge step forward: It
shifted the way society as a whole viewed race and helped begin to challenge what many people
had long considered acceptable. Ultimately, the court case became to be an effective instrument in
achieving successful school desegregation, in that its importance was realized and the program
became to be adequately financed and wisely

Do Bystanders Need A Good Samaritan Law
When it comes to the topic of bystanders, most of us will readily agree that when we see those in
peril we should assist them. A bystander is a person who is present at an incident but does not
report or assist the person. The problem with bystanders today in our society is that they don t
take action when they witness people in peril and the outcomes are most likely to be assaults or
deaths. We tend to believe that bystanders are depraved, indifferent, and heartless but in reality they
may be afraid or don t want to be involved in the incident.
These excuses or answers are extremely alike to what the bystanders claimed that were present in
the 1964 killing of Kitty Genovese in New york. Kitty was stabbed 3 times and yelled each time she

A Good Samaritan is a helpful person (Referenced to Luke 10:33) so , having a Good samaritan
law would fine or punish people who have failed to report or aid those in need. A Good
Samaritan law would expand the active bystander population and be able to apply to all people.
However, it would be more reasonable to have the formal punishments replaced , which are
being imprisoned and excessive fines. These punishments are a bit to extreme and unfair to all
people because not everybody would be able to physically call/help those in distress. Imagine
you were blind and/or deaf walking in a boardwalk. Suddenly you think the day is calm and
breezy but a someone fell in the water and was drowning and nobody is around to help and you
yourself can t physically help. You then hear policeand ambulance sirens coming to rescue the
drowning person and they arrest you. The police completely understands the position you re in
,however the law is the law and it has to be followed. Wouldn t you want to give a proper excuse
why you couldn t help ?
A Good Samaritan law would have better alternatives for the punishments would be a warning, a
bystander prevention class and if you couldn t physically help, an excuse card just like a
handicapped tag. It would have life changing benefits to people who fail to aid those in peril
because the bystander prevention class would make you in a position where you needed help or
assistance but nobody did. Wouldn t you want other to treat others they way you d want to be
treated? We have to spark up and let our well morals help a person

The American Dream By Mike Keefe
The American dream is the belief that anyone that lives or that comes to America has the chance to
be rich if they work hard enough. However American dream an unattainable dream because it never
existed. Mike Keefe an American editorial cartoonist of American Pipe Dream uses numerous
techniques to convey the message that the American dream is an optical illusion. In reality most
American live with student loans that they cannot pay because they of under employment, which
causes them credit card debt. Techniques such as the position of people and objects, raceand facial
expression are used to show the American dream is mirage.
America is known as the land of freedom and opportunity. A country where a person s
background race, religion and gender does not affect a person s dream. In whatever way this
American dream is dead in fact it never existed. The text at the left corner has a precise
description of what the American dream truly is, The American pipe dream with attached mirage.
Americans have to get an overpriced education, have huge school loans, get underpaying jobs,
which will cause them to have credit card debt, which will take their rest of their life to fix. This
means they can not buy house, cars or anything because in America a person s credit score
determines whether that person will get anything in life. Even with all of these obstacles Americans
are told to achieve a dream that is an illusion created by the fading people that belief that the future

  • 2. Analysis Of Esmerelda Santiago s Life It s hard to say that comparing two individual s lives is an easy task. When looking at my life and Esmerelda Santiago s life, the sociological imagination could be used to assist in doing that. The following concepts will be used to better understand the surprising similarities and differences: immigration, doing gender, conformist, double consciousness, deviance and traditional authority. I will start by analyzing Esmerelda Santiago s life. Following that, I will analyze my life and will finish with a conclusion that draws out the comparisons and differences of both. To begin, Esmerelda Santiago and her family immigrated into the United States from Puerto Rico. Immigration means, the movement of persons into a non native country. At this point in time the family only consisted of Esmerelda, her seven younger siblings, Mami, Tata, TГo Chico, and Don Julio. After moving around from apartment to apartment, they finally settled down in Brooklyn, New York. Esmerelda explains that they came to Brooklyn, in search of medical care for my youngest brother, Raymond, whose toes were nearly severed by a bike chain (Santiago 1998: 3). Mami hoped for better medical attention for her child than she would have received in MacГєn, Puerto Rico. Esmerelda also describes the apartment they currently lived in on McKibbin Street, in New York as, more substantial that any of our houses in Puerto Rico (Santiago 1998: 6). This shows her level of living back in Puerto Rico was a worse living ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Negative Impact On Social Media Social Media today seems like it is always compared to a drug, a lot of people are addicted to it. Considering where technology is right now we aren t addicted to Social Media, it just turns out to be our daily essential for information that we crave for. Technology has unlocked faster communication and the ability to spread information quickly. Which allows us to connect with the world and discover other people s perspectives, creating a more diverse view and opinion of topics and information. In addition, not all information is truthful, especially the widespread of fabricated news, but with technology and social media a lot of people can fact check information instead of getting news from mainstream media outlets that alter news to acquire more revenue. And if Social Media is so bad, why does everyone still use it everyday? With all that said, I think that social media impacts people, especially Millennials more positive than negative considering that it is a powerful tool that almost everyone can use. A plethora of information with diverse perspectives at your fingertips and accessing it in an instant. I believe that smartphones and computers is a growing standard among Millennials now for daily living, people can find out about news and information all around the world in an instant at the comfort of their home. • 5. Punishment Utilitarianism If the offender of the law is indeed worthy of being punished, how then would utilitarianism justify the degree to which the individual is punished? With the ultimate ends to punishment being the promotion of the greatest good, the proportions to which coercive force is used are determined via subordinate ends. These subordinate ends define the punishment as only positive as a response to the initial crimethe secondary act of evilness by punishment is what allows the injustice of the crime to be righted, inducing the prospect of a brighter future. Bentham goes on to suggest that these proportions must ensure that the offender loses the motivation to commit future mischief, must be proportionate to the extremeness of the act committed (by ... • 6. Malvolio In Julien and my Vine, we wanted to show how Malvolio s by the book lifestyle and his love for Olivia led to his humiliation. At the start of the Vine, we put a picture of a man, Malvolio, looking longingly at a woman, Olivia. Throughout the play we have seen Malvolio s apparent love and care for Olivia and her household. We continued with Malvolio s other attempt at recognition, including the yellow stockings, the smiling, his serious attitude, his rejection of love, his sense of order, and finally, his want for loved. All these attempts to obtain Olivia s recognition are potential causes for his humiliation. From the first act to the final scene of the play we can see the apparent love Malvolio has for Olivia. Understandably, Malvolio wants the best for her being that he is one of her top servants. When the good looking Cesario is said to be waiting at the gate to speak ... Malvolio doesn t know how to react to the news of his crush being taken away and that the letter was phoney. This doesn t seem to get much attention from the surrounding crowd because immediately after they start talking about other matters. The only thing Malvolio can say is, I ll be reveng d on the whole pack of you! (5.1.365). The jokes played on Malvolio were taken to another level when they created Olivia s false love for him. • 7. St. Thomas Aquinas Cosmological Argument Catholic Church: St. Thomas Aquinas (Cosmological Argument) In St. Thomas Aquinas s cosmological argument claims the following that the universe exist and its very existence has a cause and that cause is God. In his unfinished book Summa Theologiae, Aquinas put forward five ways for the existence of God. His first way is the argument from motion and by studying the works of Aristotle, the Greek Philosopher, he concluded from common observation that the planets, rolling stone or any object that is in motion is put in motion by other forces or object. From this theory, Aquinas believes there must have been an unmoved mover which is God who sets things in motion. It is certain and evident that in the world some things are set in motion. Whatever is in motion is put in motion by another. Therefore, by which it is put in motion must also be put in motion by another and by another again but this cannot go for infinity because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The final way that St. Thomas Aquinas speaks of has to do with the universe and the order of nature. Aquinas states that common sense tells us that the universe works in such a way, that one can conclude that it was designed by an intelligent designer. In other words, all physical laws and the order of nature and life were designed and ordered by God. Because whatever lacks in intelligence cannot move towards an end, unless it be directed by some being with knowledge and intelligence. Some intelligent being exists by whom all natural things are directed to their end, and this being we call God. This argument by Aquinas is suggesting that inanimate objects such as the planets could not have placed themselves into the orbits they have, because they lack the intelligence to do so. Yet they are aligned so perfectly, this must mean it must have been done so by a being with the intelligence to do so. Although we humans are intelligent, we cannot move planets, so that leaves us with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are different parenting techniques causes adults to treat boys and girls different bases off the Self Determination Theory. To understand The Self Determination Theory Joyce Endendijk states that, parental control strategies can be defined as any strategy that a parent uses to alter, change, or influence their child s behavior, thoughts, or feelings (Endendijk, 2). The self determination is caused by different types of parenting. The first type of parenting that alter the parenting ways for gender is Coercive parenting, which refers to strategies of parenting that force a child to do something, instead of giving them motivation to do it. The children are given external pressures, harsh declining, and internal pressures, thought and feelings. Parents use guilt induction, shaming, criticism, invalidation of the child s feelings, and do not act like they love them which greatly affects the child. This type of parenting is given differently towards boys than to girls. Girls are given a different way of their thoughts being change. For girls this parents gives the girl a negative effect for not being a perfect girl , or comparing their daughter to other girls. Likewise, for boys they are also given different pressures to give them a negative internal feeling. Moreover, the Self Determination Theory also describes the Autonomy supportive strategies. In which they provide the child with an appropriate amount of control, a desired amount of choice, acknowledge the child s perspectives, and provide the child with meaningful rationales when choice is constrained (Endendijk, 2). Introduction Parents are way overprotective these days; getting picked on by tougher kids and hassling weaker ones is just a part growing up. It is how they learn to deal with the real world. A statement heard by many people from adults. Unfortunately, this statement is incorrect. Throughout the course of years the US Department of Justice and Education indicate that more than eighty percent (80%) of public elementary and secondary schools report experiencing at least one violent incident ranging from bullying and physical fights to rape and assault with a weapon. In fact, on his transcript to his new school the principal stated that he was a class bully. The child too sick, too scared, too angry to go to school was the one the students classified as the terrorizing one; not recognizing he was the lonely, helpless one. Why does this sort of thing continue? The apathy of schools is to blame, mainly, apart from the cruelty of some children to others. III. Impact We need to teach schools how to deal with bullies and bullying. Students who come to administration with a concern are not tattle tales. And if you believe they are, that is fine. Also know that police officers and judges are tattle tales too. In fact, by not saying anything we are condoning the bully s actions and telling them that it is okay to bully. Students need to know that it is okay to talk to someone / anyone about being bullied. We need anti bullying restrictions shown more around the school for an effort to stop bullying in my opinion. Almost half of public high schools have a problem with bullying, but if you look at our student discipline/conduct section in the policies for the school there are more disciplinary actions taken for the usage of a cell phone or being tardy to a class then there is for bullying. • 12. Hypertension Is The Medical Term For Having High Blood... In this project Jose, Diana, Adrian and I were tasked with producing a menu for persons with hypertension and a nut allergy. Hypertension is the medical term for having high blood pressure. One of the main causes of hypertension is a poor diet. It is affected most commonly by high levels of sodium (Pg. 321). To combat high blood pressure, the DASH diet was developed. DASH stands for dietary approaches to stop hypertension. Foods that are recommended to eat while on the DASH diet are whole grains, fruits and vegetables, fat free or low fat dairy, lean meat, poultry, fish, nuts, seeds, beans, fats and oils, sweets, and sodium limited to under 2400 milligrams per day (Pg. 322). The only perceivable obstacle for the menu development was the recommendation for nuts. However, the nutrients provided through nuts can be found in other foods like fats and oils and various protein sources. The first item on the menu is a quinoa patty as an appetizer. The dish contains quinoa, carrot, celery, onion, egg, olive oil, peppers, and a dash of salt. We chose this as our appetizer because it appears to follow the DASH diet quite well. Quinoa is a whole grain; carrots, celery, onions, and peppers represent the fruits and vegetables category; the egg is not a low fat dairy product, but the amount of egg in the recipe is very minimal; olive oil is a fat and oil, and the quinoa patties are lightly salted in an attempt to keep flavor yet stay under the recommended daily limit. • 14. Crime And Punishment Conservatism The novel Crime and Punishment was written during a time when science based ideas about civilization and evolution were beginning to replace religious or mystical ideas. Many people, under the guise of being intellectuals, subscribed to these theories and promoted them because the theories made them seem superior to their fellow men. Author Fyodor Dostoevsky incorporated many of these theories into the perspectives of the characters in his novel, suggesting that despite their presentation as new or revolutionary, they were simply re workings of older ideas re fitted for the modern era. Dostoevsky uses Raskolnikov s idea about extraordinary people and Lebezyatnikov s idea about communes to criticize Social Darwinismand aspects of Radicalism respectively. By linking the theories with his characters, he also criticizes the type of people who subscribed to these theories. Dostoevsky outlines two conflicting theories about crime and humanity that emerged during Russia s modernization period in the novel. One view, presented by Razumikhin, explains that the individual is a victim of his environment and the other, held by Raskolnikov, states instead that the individual is a product of his environment. Fool in William Shakespeare s King Lear Essay Fool in William Shakespeare s King Lear The Fool s function in King Lear is to create emphasis on the tragedy in the play and give insight into the characters true nature. He shows other characters nature though blunt comments and earns himself the name of all licensed Fool , as he clearly states peoples inner personality. He develops the tragedy though a theme of madness and instability, from his use of poems and rhymes intermingled with standard prose, which even then is full of cryptic phrases and drivel. This, also, creates a dramatic atmosphere, as the lines of his riddle are short with a quick tempo. However, the Fool was not just used in King Lear. There were many other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also states his point of view towards Lear s decision to banish Cordelia, and believes Lear to be a sweet and bitter fool for this action. This shows one of his functions is to comment on relationships and characters. The Fool s views on the situation here emphasise the atmosphere of madness and tragedy that Shakespeare is trying to portray to the audience. The Fool s function is therefore to make us feel pathos towards Lear s folly and Cordelia, and clarify Goneril and Regan s hatred towards their father. In addition to this, he adds contrast to the tragedy through his use of poems and riddles in this scene, which creates a comical element. The Fool creates most of his desired functions through these changes in his style of language. Throughout the play, the Fool talks in riddles and poems amid normal prose. He uses this to confuse Lear and for comic relief, which I have already mentioned as one of his functions. This also keeps the audience and Lear interested in his conversation. The Fool s language makes Lear want the Fool to teach [him] . The Fool s function is to also add irony to the play in the statement, already pronounced by Lear, Nothing comes out of nothing . This creates irony, as ultimately nothing is precisely what Lear ends with. Statistically, the dropout rate has decreased from a national average of 15 percent in 1972 to 10 percent in 2003, according to the National Center for Education Statistics, which rated 16 24 year olds (Child Trend, 2003). Though, there has been signs of a decrease, drop out rates continue to be a concern to the public because of the potential consequences and financial costs to the government. A concern of the statistical data of high school dropouts is the disparaging number of minority students who drop out of high school in comparison to whites and Asians. A 1993 research by John Hopkins University flagged 2,000 high schools across the country as potential dropout factories because 40 percent or more of their freshmen fail to make it to 12th grade on time (Viadero, 2004). These schools are in medium and bigger size cities and have a significant black and Latino student population. Florida is the one exception, where many of the failing students are rural white. In 2003, it was estimated that 6 percent of whites, in comparison to 12 percent of blacks had dropped out of school (Child Trend, 2003). The primary reason appears that these school districts have a variety of disadvantages, such as resources and money to improve schools and programs. These schools are located in lower socio economic communities. However, these disadvantaged students are judged on the same achievement standards as students who live in higher economic districts with better resources and tools. Latin Americans constitute the highest percentage of high school dropouts. 24 percent of Latin Americans dropped out of school in 2003 (Child Trends, 2003). • 21. The Importance Of Effective Communication Skills I have developed my effective communication skills over the past few years whilst working both my current jobs; Vue Cinema and Sainsbury s, whilst studying Law at Leeds Beckett University. In order to effectively communicate with others I believe it is essential to listen to, not just hear people s views. This includes what words have been spoken, but also how they have been spoken, taking note both the person s body language and tone of voice. An example of when I have utilised this skill is when I notice customers struggling with their packing at Sainsbury s and I volunteer to help them, even if I am currently not serving them. Customers often do not ask for help, but I assess the situation through a customer s body language and facial expressions to determine whether to help. Packing, even though a seemingly small task, involves constant effective communication, this allows myself to understand the customer s requirements and needs as to how and what should be packed. Effective communication builds a colleague customer relationship, in result creating a trust between them and the company. Effective communication also involves being aware of others emotions i.e. being sympathetic to other people s misfortune and using empathy to put yourself in the other persons shoes . I use first names where appropriate, this helps to build a relationship with the person I am talking to, making them my equal. These encounters include either living through the experience first hand or the experience being conveyed by another person. Our perception weeds out main ideas from those experiences deeming them realistic and if so labels them truths. However, our perception of the obtained truthfrom those experiences is not always credible because as a recipient we are restricted to the amount of experience we can retain. Due our limitations as recipients, which cause truth to vary among us, discovering truth becomes impossible because of its constant changes. When we encounter experiences through person to person, alterations occur at times on purpose by the conveyor on the experience so the translation by the recipient can result in the closest experience to the experience retained by the conveyor. These changes highlight the retained ideas in the experience, allowing it to remain a truth, O Brien explains, when you go to tell about it, there is always that surreal seemingness, which makes the story untrue, but which in fact represents the hard and exact truth as it seemed (O Brien 442). As a recipient of an experience one is bound by only the translation of the experience one can retain, so when the conveyor tells his or her experience/story. (L. 30 32) The narrator frequently uses kennings in this poem. A kenning in Anglo Saxon literature is a metaphorical phrase or compound word that names an event, person, place, or thing indirectly. There are four different types of kennings that the narrator uses within Beowulf which are prepositional phrase (ex. shepherd of evil = Grendel, guardian of crime = Grendel), hyphenated compound (ex. sea road = the ocean, ring giver = king), possessive (ex. The physical basis of the independent assortment of chromosomes is the random orientation of each bivalent chromosome along the metaphase plate with respect to the other bivalent chromosomes. Along with crossing over, independent assortment increases genetic diversity by producing many genetic combinations. Law of Dominance Mendel s Law of Dominance states that recessive alleles will always be masked by dominant alleles. This means a cross between a homozygous dominant and a homozygous recessive will always express the dominant phenotype whilst still having a heterozygous genotype. Proof of this principle was achieved using a mono hybrid cross experiment: In a cross between two organisms of contrasting traits the trait that is expressed is called dominant and the trait that is suppressed is called recessive. Dominance and Co dominance Dominance and co dominance was discovered by Gregor Mendel when he found that if two parents with different variations of a similar trait were cross bred, the offspring would only display one of these ... Convergence and International Corporate Governance Find and summarise (in no more than 1000 words) some of the work that has been done by Katherine Pistor and others on Convergence, Divergence and В‘Path Dependency of legal systems as it relates to International Corporate Governance. In recent years the issue of corporate governance has become a keenly debated topic in international finance. In developed countries, some of the biggest corporate collapses in history have brought about a change in focus. No longer are governments and lawmakers trying to deregulate and reduce the controls and disclosure requirements of corporations. Thus the rules which have helped these corporations to prosper will be perpetuated. This in turn makes the interest group stronger and allows for continued divergence. Bebchuk and Roe accept that there are other reasons for the huge differences between countries legal systems. The size of the economy and the nature of business therein must play a part in the types of governance systems created. Cultural differences must also affect the laws, at a more fundamental level. Conclusion In 2000 Katarina Pistor wrote a paper which examined convergence/divergence issue in transition economies. She concluded that a simple convergence story does not do justice to the complexity of legal change (Pistor 2000, pp. 27). On of the key issues raised in this paper was that legal convergence in transition economies is mainly because of an external supply of legal solutions, and not as a result of the adaptation of successful strategies. Another point was that in many countries, it appeared that systems were developed in response to problems and not with a long term goal in mind. In general, it is clear that neither the convergence or divergence models, tell us the whole story. Whilst some level of convergence has been observed, the persistence of divergence is undeniable. The importance of path dependency in determining the corporate governance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When humans experience excessive stress, whether from internal worry or an external circumstance, stimulus occurs and triggers a reaction called the fight or flight response. Throughout Lord of the Flies by William Golding, The Destructors by Graham Greene, and the article Thirty Eight Who Saw Murder Didn t Call the Police by Martin Gansberg, both ideas of fight or flight are displayed. From Upton Sinclair s damning exposure of the meat processing industry in The Jungle, to George Orwell s grave warning concerning communism in Animal Farm, to William Goulding s disturbing look at human nature post World War 2 in Lord of the Flies, countless authors have attempted to expose flaws in their society through writing. Rome, as a growing republic, and later as a sprawling empire, was consistently rife with corruption, abuse of power, and the degradation of morals. Writers like Sallust, Juvenal, and Tacitussaw these social flaws as opportunities, whether to drive social or political change, or to increase their influence, or just to make a statement to the government and the Roman people. However, these three writers each took a different approach to his commentary. Through comedic hyperbole and satire, Juvenal looked to expose the moral degradation of Roman women in Satire VI. On the other hand, Sallust focused on political corruption in the late Roman Republic, using the history of the Jugurthine War as a lens by which to observe the corruption he despised. With yet another approach, Tacitus aimed to criticize despots like Emperor Domitian and to denounce imperialism through the biography of Agricola, the Roman general who conquered Britain. • 52. Do Bystanders Need A Good Samaritan Law When it comes to the topic of bystanders, most of us will readily agree that when we see those in peril we should assist them. A bystander is a person who is present at an incident but does not report or assist the person. The problem with bystanders today in our society is that they don t take action when they witness people in peril and the outcomes are most likely to be assaults or deaths. We tend to believe that bystanders are depraved, indifferent, and heartless but in reality they may be afraid or don t want to be involved in the incident. These excuses or answers are extremely alike to what the bystanders claimed that were present in the 1964 killing of Kitty Genovese in New york. Kitty was stabbed 3 times and yelled each time she ... A Good Samaritan is a helpful person (Referenced to Luke 10:33) so , having a Good samaritan law would fine or punish people who have failed to report or aid those in need. A Good Samaritan law would expand the active bystander population and be able to apply to all people. However, it would be more reasonable to have the formal punishments replaced , which are being imprisoned and excessive fines. These punishments are a bit to extreme and unfair to all people because not everybody would be able to physically call/help those in distress. Imagine you were blind and/or deaf walking in a boardwalk. Suddenly you think the day is calm and breezy but a someone fell in the water and was drowning and nobody is around to help and you yourself can t physically help. You then hear policeand ambulance sirens coming to rescue the drowning person and they arrest you. The police completely understands the position you re in ,however the law is the law and it has to be followed. Wouldn t you want to give a proper excuse why you couldn t help ? A Good Samaritan law would have better alternatives for the punishments would be a warning, a bystander prevention class and if you couldn t physically help, an excuse card just like a handicapped tag. It would have life changing benefits to people who fail to aid those in peril because the bystander prevention class would make you in a position where you needed help or assistance but nobody did. Wouldn t you want other to treat others they way you d want to be treated? We have to spark up and let our well morals help a person ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
