Information and Academic Literacies Toolkit PURPOSE/CONTEXT WHAT IS IT? HOW DOES IT WORK? IMPACT EVALUATION/ FUTURE WORK
Setting the scene… • Lancaster University Curriculum Transformation Programme: - to streamline the design, shape, and delivery of the curriculum - staff, students, as well as internal and external stakeholders will co-create a signature curriculum that is inclusive, inspirational, distinctive, and attractive, in line with the University strategy. • Opportunity? - Information and Academic Literacies (I&AL) Conceptual Framework
Purpose? • To raise the profile of and develop the teaching and learning of Information and Academic Literacies (I&AL). • Demonstrate how I&AL should be developed through levels 4-7 within the new curriculum. • Holistic and scaffolding approach encouraging integration/embedding of I&AL into early curriculum design and programme learning outcomes – seamless not ‘bolt-on’. 'provide academic staff and those involved in curriculum design with a reference point in identifying the skills and knowledge students require to develop as successful learners.'
Creative Innovation Led the way in mapping learning at levels 4-7 in preparation for the new curriculum Directly links information and academic literacies to the new Education Framework as well as the Library Vision Online design - easy to navigate, creative and useful for academic staff as well as the broader LD and FL team
Impact • Positive feedback from academic staff, Library colleagues and sector • Toolkit’s design has been used in all CTP guidance resources • Management School – Professional Development module • Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences – Discovery Module

Impact on CTP – contributed to an inclusive curriculum Collaboration between FL and LD teams – strengthening their work Making the most of our resources Plan to gather testimonials and more case studies Potential to include AI Literacy in future development Student focused toolkit
Demo • Maps information and academic literacies/skills across levels 4-7. • Indicates the expected level of competency and how students could be expected to progress and build on these skills within their programmes of study. • Encourages conversations/discussions around the integration/embedding of I&AL into programmes as well as some resources to support with this. • Provides case studies of where I&AL are embedded successfully into the curriculum currently - examples of good practice. • Links to key contacts – LD/FL teams. • Links to our online resources.
