Are we confident that our light is bright
Vol. 47 January 25, 2022 Number 4
KINDNESS
When life gets hard, and the road gets rough,
Try a little kindness and you won’t feel so tough.
Kindness is a blessing that benefits both giver and receiver.
Why then are there not more who strive to be believers?
For the greatest kindness that has ever been displayed,
Comes from the Savior whose life He freely gave.
Often, we hear the voice of some say,
“I love the Lord, and His life I choose to display!”
But often the actions of some of those say,
“I couldn’t care less about showing kindness your way.”
We mustn't get caught up in Satan’s self-centered motives,
Or a Christ-like disposition will never be noticed.
God’s kindness was shown long ago on a cross,
And now as recipients we mustn't let it be lost.
Be kind one to another and let the Lord be made known.
For the kindness shown to others will one day come back home.

SPIRITUAL CPR
Derrick Coble
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is the medical term
for what we simply call, “CPR.” Anyone who has
watched a movie, or a medical television program has
seen this performed on individuals who are near death
to restore normal breathing and keep the blood
flowing throughout the body. It may even be that you
or someone you know is trained to perform this
special technique. But have you ever heard about
spiritual CPR? This life saving technique is
administered when a person is dying but not on the
outside, on the inside. His spirit is in need of the life
that only Jesus Christ can give. Specially trained
servants of God (Christians) are able to help those
suffering toward spiritual death and administer the
lifesaving technique known as, “Critical Preaching for
Repentance.”
The symptoms of those needing spiritual CPR are
very easy to see. First, there is a lack of blood flowing
over the body. Of course, “the life of the flesh is in the
blood” (Leviticus 17:11) and such is the case with
Jesus’ blood as well. When a person is not covered in
the blood of Christ through the waters of baptism
(Revelation 5:8; John 19:34; Galatians 3:27; Acts
22:16) he has a lack of blood covering his sins.
Therefore, he will die in his sins (John 8:24) if the
blood is not applied over the whole body. If God had
not seen the blood on the posts of the door of the
Israelites during the last plague upon Egypt death
would have entered their houses (Exodus 12:13). In
like manner, God must see that our earthly house (2
Cor. 5:1) is covered in blood so spiritual death does
not pass upon us in the judgment day.
The second symptom is a weak heart. In this
situation, the blood may be flowing over the body, but
the heart is simply not strong enough. There is a lack
of love for God even though we are commanded to
love him with all our heart (Matthew 22:37-40), there
is a lack of joy because an evil heart has entered the
body (Hebrews 3:12), and their heart is not right in the
sight of God (Acts 8:21). Spiritual CPR will help the
weak in heart to gain hope again causing the Lord to
strengthen the heart (Psalm 31:24).
The final symptom is a lack of spiritual life, zeal,
or energy. Life and everything associated with it is
completely opposite to death. This may sound like an
elementary statement, but so many people think death
is a way of life. Critical Preaching for Repentance is a
way to give spiritual life. How? Jesus said, “the words
that I speak unto you they are spirit and they are life”
(John 6:63). Thus, following His words will give life
and not death. Following His words will give zeal
according to knowledge unlike the nation of Israel
who was zealous without knowledge (Romans
10:1,2).
So, do you need CPR? If you have any of the
above symptoms, the answer is, “yes.” Time is of the
essence. Hearing God’s word preached will show the
need to repent since it is God’s power (1 Corinthians
1:18) and it will allow you to see “That as sin hath
reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through
righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our
Lord” (Romans 5:21).

Confused by the Book of
Revelation?
The Bible makes a distinction between the “milk” and
the “solid food” of God’s word (Heb. 5:12-14). The
book of Revelation would be in the “meat” category
that cannot be understood without a foundational
knowledge of the rest of scripture. Before any biblical
text says anything to you or me, it has already spoken
to those who first received it.
The book of Revelation is addressed to the seven
churches of the first-century Roman province of Asia
(1:4, 11; 2:1–3:22), which may also be representative of
the problems and needs of all the churches at the time.
These Christians were suffering severe and widespread
persecution that would eventually worsen (1:9; 2:10, 13;
3:10; 6:9; 16:6; 17:6; 18:24; 19:2; 20:4) and were being
pressured to worship the secular ruling power (13:4, 15-
16; 14:9-11; 15:2; 16:2; 19:20; 20:4). The most likely
historical context of this manuscript is toward the end
of the reign of the Roman emperor Domitian in the
years 95-96.
The final NT document represents a type of literature
known as “apocalyptic,” characterized by highly
symbolic language, common during times of great
danger or oppression (like Daniel and Ezekiel). It was
intended to disclose a message of hope, comfort, and
reassurance to those being oppressed, while the
symbolism hid the actual message from the oppressors.
Most of the imagery in Revelation is borrowed from
the OT, foreign to those unacquainted with scripture
but familiar to these early Christians.
Any interpretation of the fantastic symbolism that has
little or no relevance, meaning, or application to the
first-century Asian churches must be mistaken, and the
repeated warnings of “what must happen quickly ….
for the time is near” (1:1, 3; 22:6, 10) would otherwise
be misleading. If would-be interpreters have little
regard for the immediate audience of any writing,
chances are the original sense will be misconstrued and
the message misapplied. When the overall context of
the Bible is ignored and the book of Revelation is
interpreted through human imagination and conjecture,
there is no end to the diverse and even absurd
explanations of the text.
The theme of Revelation is VICTORY in Jesus (2:7, 11,
17, 26; 3:5, 12, 21; 5:5; 12:11; 15:2; 17:14; 21:7), so the
essential message continues to encourage all Christians
who face similar circumstances.

  • 1. 0………. 4 --article continued from page 1— Are we confident that our light is bright Vol. 47 January 25, 2022 Number 4 KINDNESS When life gets hard, and the road gets rough, Try a little kindness and you won’t feel so tough. Kindness is a blessing that benefits both giver and receiver. Why then are there not more who strive to be believers? For the greatest kindness that has ever been displayed, Comes from the Savior whose life He freely gave. Often, we hear the voice of some say, “I love the Lord, and His life I choose to display!” But often the actions of some of those say, “I couldn’t care less about showing kindness your way.” We mustn't get caught up in Satan’s self-centered motives, Or a Christ-like disposition will never be noticed. God’s kindness was shown long ago on a cross, And now as recipients we mustn't let it be lost. Be kind one to another and let the Lord be made known. For the kindness shown to others will one day come back home. —Barry Kennedy ELDERS Mike Childers ............. 397-6453 Dennis Hallmark......... 255-5557 Mark Hitt .................... 322-0917 Bobby Lindley ............ 260-9193 DEACONS Wade Bryan ................ 419-5552 William Harris ............ 416-8149 Ricky Lindsey............. 255-8136 Jeff Mansel.................. 871-0357 Jimmy Spearman ........ 840-8957 Michael Wilson........... 891-0891 MINISTERS Barry Kennedy....(931)787-7108 Alex Blackwelder (731)879-9196 SECRETARY Renee Childers Office.......................... 842-6116 Fax .............................. 842-7091 E-MAIL eastmaincoc38804@gmail.com WEB PAGE eastmaincoc.com SUNDAY SERVICES Worship........................9:00 a.m. Bible class..................10:15 a.m. Worship......................11:15 a.m. Singing or Devotional Last Sunday of the Month MID-WEEK SERVICES Wednesday Classes......7:00 p.m. 1606 East Main Street P. • 2. SPIRITUAL CPR Derrick Coble Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is the medical term for what we simply call, “CPR.” Anyone who has watched a movie, or a medical television program has seen this performed on individuals who are near death to restore normal breathing and keep the blood flowing throughout the body. It may even be that you or someone you know is trained to perform this special technique. But have you ever heard about spiritual CPR? This life saving technique is administered when a person is dying but not on the outside, on the inside. His spirit is in need of the life that only Jesus Christ can give. Specially trained servants of God (Christians) are able to help those suffering toward spiritual death and administer the lifesaving technique known as, “Critical Preaching for Repentance.” The symptoms of those needing spiritual CPR are very easy to see. First, there is a lack of blood flowing over the body. Of course, “the life of the flesh is in the blood” (Leviticus 17:11) and such is the case with Jesus’ blood as well. When a person is not covered in the blood of Christ through the waters of baptism (Revelation 5:8; John 19:34; Galatians 3:27; Acts 22:16) he has a lack of blood covering his sins. Therefore, he will die in his sins (John 8:24) if the blood is not applied over the whole body. If God had not seen the blood on the posts of the door of the Israelites during the last plague upon Egypt death would have entered their houses (Exodus 12:13). In like manner, God must see that our earthly house (2 Cor. 5:1) is covered in blood so spiritual death does not pass upon us in the judgment day. The second symptom is a weak heart. In this situation, the blood may be flowing over the body, but the heart is simply not strong enough. There is a lack of love for God even though we are commanded to love him with all our heart (Matthew 22:37-40), there is a lack of joy because an evil heart has entered the body (Hebrews 3:12), and their heart is not right in the sight of God (Acts 8:21). Spiritual CPR will help the weak in heart to gain hope again causing the Lord to strengthen the heart (Psalm 31:24). The final symptom is a lack of spiritual life, zeal, or energy. Life and everything associated with it is completely opposite to death. This may sound like an elementary statement, but so many people think death is a way of life. Critical Preaching for Repentance is a way to give spiritual life. How? Jesus said, “the words that I speak unto you they are spirit and they are life” (John 6:63). Thus, following His words will give life and not death. Following His words will give zeal according to knowledge unlike the nation of Israel who was zealous without knowledge (Romans 10:1,2). So, do you need CPR? If you have any of the above symptoms, the answer is, “yes.” Time is of the essence. Hearing God’s word preached will show the need to repent since it is God’s power (1 Corinthians 1:18) and it will allow you to see “That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 5:21). ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gospel Meeting A Gospel Meeting will be held at the Verona congregation January 21-23 with Jeffery King speaking Friday and Saturday at 6:30 pm and Sunday at 9:00, 10:00 and 11:00 am. EMYG News Confused by the Book of Revelation? The Bible makes a distinction between the “milk” and the “solid food” of God’s word (Heb. 5:12-14). The book of Revelation would be in the “meat” category that cannot be understood without a foundational knowledge of the rest of scripture. Before any biblical text says anything to you or me, it has already spoken to those who first received it. The book of Revelation is addressed to the seven churches of the first-century Roman province of Asia (1:4, 11; 2:1–3:22), which may also be representative of the problems and needs of all the churches at the time. These Christians were suffering severe and widespread persecution that would eventually worsen (1:9; 2:10, 13; 3:10; 6:9; 16:6; 17:6; 18:24; 19:2; 20:4) and were being pressured to worship the secular ruling power (13:4, 15- 16; 14:9-11; 15:2; 16:2; 19:20; 20:4). The most likely historical context of this manuscript is toward the end of the reign of the Roman emperor Domitian in the years 95-96. The final NT document represents a type of literature known as “apocalyptic,” characterized by highly symbolic language, common during times of great danger or oppression (like Daniel and Ezekiel). It was intended to disclose a message of hope, comfort, and reassurance to those being oppressed, while the symbolism hid the actual message from the oppressors. Most of the imagery in Revelation is borrowed from the OT, foreign to those unacquainted with scripture but familiar to these early Christians. Any interpretation of the fantastic symbolism that has little or no relevance, meaning, or application to the first-century Asian churches must be mistaken, and the repeated warnings of “what must happen quickly …. for the time is near” (1:1, 3; 22:6, 10) would otherwise be misleading. If would-be interpreters have little regard for the immediate audience of any writing, chances are the original sense will be misconstrued and the message misapplied. When the overall context of the Bible is ignored and the book of Revelation is interpreted through human imagination and conjecture, there is no end to the diverse and even absurd explanations of the text. The theme of Revelation is VICTORY in Jesus (2:7, 11, 17, 26; 3:5, 12, 21; 5:5; 12:11; 15:2; 17:14; 21:7), so the essential message continues to encourage all Christians who face similar circumstances.
