Editor's Notes

  • #2 I’m happy to say that my SI degree directly relates to almost everything I do at ProQuest. ProQuest is an online information provider, that started in Ann Arbor as a microfilm company (University microfilms). Next came dissertations, and then newspapers and periodicals. ProQuest has the only off-site Library of Congress site for their dissertations collection in Ypsilanti, Michigan. My two concentrations at SI were LIS (Library and Information Services) and HCI (Human Computer Interaction). I develop software for a library vendor. We’re like the Google of libraries.
  • #4 For my undergrad, I went to Michigan Tech in da U.P. (show hands!). My degree was in electrical engineering.
  • #5 This is the job that got me interested in information! During this job, I went to Washtenaw Community College (WCC) to learn more.KnowledgebaseSetup, implementation & employee training of KBAuthored, reviewed, and approved technical documents in HTML for publishing in KBImplemented customer service system and marketing system from Right Now Technologies (the KB vendor)
  • #6 Here I got my first taste of SI. There were some SI grads teaching at WCC. That’s how I learned about the School of Information. The department chair, Jason Withrow, is faculty at WCC.HCI/LIS skills
  • #7 I learned about the School of Information from SI grads who teach at WCC. The department chair, Jason Withrow, is faculty at WCC.Other classes: Networked computing Contextual inquiry and project management Principles in management Statistics
  • #9 UofM SI Alum wanted to hire an SI student for an internship. I’ve only met her once! At Chicago ALA a couple years ago.Part time, remote from Michigan. Could work wherever/whenever.
  • #10 Skills in addition to major tasks on the leftUnpaid internship
