SEO basics
SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages)
“The process of
increasing the number of
visitors to a website by
achieving high rank in
the search results of a
search engine. The
higher a website ranks in
the results of a search,
the greater the chance
that users will visit the
site.” - Moz
Think of search engines
like the librarians of the
Internet.
Their systems collect
information about every
page on the web so they
can help users find
exactly what they’re
looking for.
Algorithms are constantly
being updated which makes
staying on top of SEO
efforts important.
These algorithm changes
have code names you may
have heard some of the
biggest ones Penguin,
Panda and Hummingbird.
If you have a website,
understanding the key
ingredients search engines
look for (ranking factors)
and making it easy for them
to find these on your site
helps to improve your
chances of being displayed
higher up in the search
engine results page (SERP).

“..and made Yoast SEO a lot better, faster and,
most importantly, easier to understand for
everyone, expert and beginner alike.”
Yoast does make optimising content in
WordPress a breeze, but you still need to put
the work in to get results.
This means learning about how search
engines work, how they rank content – as well
as learning how WordPress and Yoast work –
then putting that all together! 
