Physics in
Household Activities
Presentation
DAY 1
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
1.Identify common
household activities and
appliances that involve
physics principles.
1.Create a simple
Household Physics
Mapping chart with
group members.
1.Appreciate the
importance of physics in
improving everyday
household life.
• Divide the class into small groups.
• One representative from each group will act
out a household-related concept without
speaking.
• Group members will guess the concept
being portrayed.
• After guessing correctly, the group explains
how physics is involved
What forms of energy or motion did you observe
in the activity?
DISCUSSIO
N
Physics?
WHAT IS
PHYSICS
is the science that studies how things move and
interact in the world around us. It tries to
understand the basic rules that govern the
universe — from tiny atoms to huge planets
and galaxies.
PHYSICS
In simple terms:
Physics asks questions like:
⚬ Why do things fall down?
⚬ How does light travel?
⚬ What makes things move?
⚬ What is energy, and how is it used?
PHYSICS
Some everyday examples of physics:
⚬ A ball falling (gravity)
⚬ A car speeding up or slowing down
(motion and force)
⚬ Electricity turning on a light (energy and
circuits)
⚬ Sound coming from a speaker
(vibrations and waves)
WHY DO WE NEED
TO STUDY PHYSICS?
PHYSICS
We need to study physics because it helps us understand how
the world works — and that understanding helps us solve
problems, build things, and improve our lives.
Here's why physics is important (in simple terms):
⚬ Explains everyday things
⚬ Helps create technology
⚬ Solves real-world problems
⚬ Trains your brain
ELECTRIC FAN
• Uses electricity, motion, and energy conversion
• Electrical energy is converted into mechanical energy
• Spinning blades move air and help cool the body
AIR CONDITIONER
• Uses heat transfer principles
• Removes heat from the room and releases it outside
• Makes rooms cooler and more comfortable
COOKING
• Uses heat transfer: conduction, convection, and radiation
• Heat energy cooks food through direct contact, moving
fluids, or waves
• Makes food safe and ready to eat
MICROWAVE OVEN
• Uses electromagnetic waves called microwaves
• Waves make water molecules vibrate and produce
heat
• Heats food quickly and efficiently
WASHING MACHINE
• Uses circular motion, force, and energy
• Spinning motion removes dirt and water from clothes
• Makes washing faster and easier
COLLABORATIVE
ACTIVITY
PHYSICS IN REAL LIFE: HOUSEHOLD MAPPING
INSTRUCTIONS
• Learners form groups of 4–5.
• Each group creates a chart/concept map
showing:
⚬ Household appliance/activity
⚬ Physics principle involved
⚬ How it improves quality of life
INSTRUCTI
ONS
How would daily life change if these
technologies did not exist?

OPPORTUNITIES AND
INTEGRATION
What subject can you think of based on our discussion today?
ASSESSMEN
T
EXIT TICKET
Choose one household or appliance:
identify the physics principle involved
Explain briefly how it works
HOMEWORK
Create a mini “Physics at Home” journal by
listing five household activities and
identifying the physics principle involved in
each
