Abstract:
In Systems Biology, the visualization of data as networks support researchers in analyzing and understanding the biological system under study. Since 2009, creating an easy-to-understand and exchangeable network is possible using a standard called SBGN, the Systems Biology Graphical Notation. In this talk, I will show some good practices for generating biological networks using SBGN. After a short presentation of the Systems Biology Graphical Notation, I will give a demo on drawing SBGN maps using the SBGN-ED software.

This study measured and compared the leaf thickness of four Salix taxa from the Athabasca sand dunes in northern Saskatchewan, Canada to their widespread progenitors. Leaf thickness was measured using light microscopy. Results showed leaf thickness varied among species and between each derivative-progenitor pair, with the two amphistomatic taxa from Yakow Lake dunes, S. turnorii and S. planifolia subsp. tyrrellii, having significantly thicker leaves than their widespread progenitors. A relationship was found between amphistomatic leaves and greater leaf thickness among the Salix taxa.
