COMMUNICATION

DIGITAL COMMUNICATION
Digital communication is a mode of
communication where the information or the
thought is encoded digitally as discrete signals
and electronically transferred to the recipients.
Digital communication is one of the most
commonly used modes of communication now
a days.
CONCEPTS IN DIGITAL
COMMUNICATION
• Cyberspace refers to the virtual computer
world, and more specifically, is an electronic
medium used to form a global computer
network to facilitate online communication. It
is a large computer network made up of many
worldwide computer.
• An example of cyberspace is the home of
Google, Yahoo and Face book.
cyberspace
• Cyberspace allows
users to share
information, interact,
swap ideas, play
games, engage in
discussions or social
forums, conduct
business and create
intuitive media,
among many other
activities.
virtual
reality
The computer
generated simulation
of a three-dimensional
image or environment
that can be interacted
with in a seemingly
real or physical way
by a person using
special electronic
equipment, such as a
helmet with a screen
inside or gloves fitted
with sensors.
CONTI..
• A virtual community is a community of people
sharing common interests, ideas, and feelings
over the Internet or other collaborative networks.
• Virtual communities might be thought of as
subgroups within Marshall McLuhan's notion of
cyberspace as a "global village.“
• CHATROOMS, EMAIL MAILING LIST, AND
ELECTRONIC DISCUSSION GROUPS…
Virtual communities
Conti…
• People living in various corners of the world
who shares particular interest can come
together to discuss it in cyberspace.
Chat rooms
Certain portion of
the internet allow
people to interact in
new and exciting
ways. Chat room let
people
communicate in
real time with
strangers.
MUDs and
Bots
Stand for Multi User
Domain, interactive
game.
Player in this game
take on a name and a
person wonder
around in virtual
rooms in a
stimulated world in
which they can
interact with other
players in real time.
Interactivity
In computers,
interactivity is the
dialog that occurs
between a human
being (or possibly
another live
creature) and a
computer program.
Conti..
• User might interact with a computer by using a
search engine. But they can interact with
another human being through a chat room or
by exchanging e-mail messages.
Conti..
• Researcher Louise Ha and Lincoln James suggest
that interactivity on the world wide web has five
important dimensions..
• Playfulness– games and quizzes
• Choice– alternative
• Connectedness– provided rich sites
• Information collection—cookies
• Reciprocal communication—TWO way
communication
Multimedia
The field concerned
with the computer-
controlled integration
of text, graphics,
drawings, still and
moving images
(Video), animation,
audio, and any other
media where every
type of information
can be represented,
stored, transmitted and
processed digitally.
CONTI..
• STREAMING MULTIMEDIA
• Resently, the world wide web has featuerd
streaming multimedia, or live audio and video
available through web site.
• Video hotlinks
• Points that appear while a video is moving
.clicking on them could load another video and
audio clip or take the user to a page of
text(Alvear,1998).
Hypertext
Hypertext is text
displayed on
a computer
display or
other electronic
devices with
references
(hyperlinks) to
other text that the
reader can
immediately
access.
CONTI..
• Several writers suggested that hypertext can
mimic the pattern of associations in the human
brain(BUSH,1945; Devlin and Berk, 1991)
