W hat’s cloud computing?
What’s cloud computing? It’s a computing model not a technology. Some analysts define cloud computing narrowly as an updated version of utility computing, other go very abroad say anything you consume outside the firewall.
What’s a cloud computing? It possible to define some key elements that characterize this trend! We can define it as : [1] Cloud computing refers to both the applications delivered as services over the internet and the hardware and system software in the data centres that provide those services.
What’s a cloud computing? OR [2] Type of parallel and distributed system consisting of a collection of interconnected and virtualized computers that are dynamically provisioned and presented as one or more unified computing resources.
Whether it’s called: Cloud computing or on-demand computing, The common element is: The shift in the geography of computation.
C onfusion ..
Confusion between cloud computing and some technical terms ! Cloud computing can be confused with: [1] Grid Computing : A form of distributed computing, whereby a 'super and virtual computer' is composed of a cluster of networked, loosely coupled computers acting in concert to perform very large tasks.
Confusion between cloud computing and some technical terms ! Cloud computing can be confused with: [2] Utility Computing: The packaging of computing resources such as computing power, storage, as a metered services ( similar to a traditional public utility, such as electricity ).
Confusion between cloud computing and some technical terms ! Cloud computing can be confused with: [3] Autonomic Computing: Computer systems capable of self management. Many cloud computing deployments depend on grids , have autonomic characteristics, and bill like utilities , BUT cloud computing tends to expand what is provided by grids and utilities.
More about cloud computing ..
The word “ Cloud Computing ” is not associated with any particular technology, protocol, or vendor. Previous trends were limited to a specific users. Cloud computing aims to be global. It provides services to the mass ranging from the end user that hosts its personal documents on the Internet to enterprises outsourcing their entire IT infrastructure to external datacentres. Cloud Computing is many-to-many , which each server talking to multiple clients and each clients invoking programs on multiple servers.
A Brief history of Cloud Computing !
A Brief history 1960 - John McCarthy opined that "computation may someday be organized as a public utility" Early 1990s - The term “ cloud ” comes into commercial use referring to large networks and the advancement of the Internet. 1999 - Salesforce.com is established, providing an “ on demand ” SaaS (Software as a Service). 2001 - IBM details the SaaS concept in their “ Autonomic Computing Manifesto ”
A Brief history 2005 - Amazon provides access to their excess capacity on a utility computing and storage basis. 2007 - Google, IBM, various Universities embark on a large scale cloud computing research project. 2008 - Gartner says cloud computing will “shape the relationship among consumers of IT services, those who use IT services and those who sell them”
W hy CLOUD ?
The name cloud computing was inspired by the cloud symbol that's often used to represent the Internet in flow charts and diagrams.
Types of Cloud Computing !
Private Cloud ! ( Internal Cloud ): A cloud computing-like environment within the boundaries ( firewall ) of an organization and typically for its exclusive usage.
Public Cloud ! ( External Cloud ): A cloud computing environment that is external to the boundaries of the organization, and open for use to the general public, whether individuals, corporations or other types of organizations. Examples: Amazon's Web Services and Google appEngine. Some times: an external cloud is not necessarily a public cloud. Some external clouds make their cloud infrastructure available to specific other organizations and not to the public at-large.
Hybrid Cloud ! A computing environment combining both private (internal) and public (external) cloud computing environments.

S ervices offering by Cloud Computing
S ervices offering by Cloud Computing The wide variety of cloud computing services can be classified as: 1- Infrastructure as a service ( IaaS ). 2- Platform as a service ( PaaS ). 3- Software as a service ( SaaS ).
Infrastructure As a service IaaS refers to delivering IT infrastructure as commodity to customers. These resources meet the end user requirements in terms of memory, CPU types and power storage. Users are billed on a pay per use basis and have to setup their system on top of these resources that are hosted and managed in datacentres owned by the vendor.
Infrastructure As a service Examples : Amazon Simple Storage Services (Amazon S3 ). Which customer pay based on storage capacity. Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2). Which customer pay for compute resources by the hour.
Infrastructure As a service
Infrastructure As a service
Infrastructure As a service Comparing between traditional hosting and cloud hosting , Video Three distinct characteristics that differentiate clouds from traditional hosting It is sold on demand. It is elastic. The service is fully managed by the provider.
Platform As a service PaaS provides an application or development platform in which users can create their own application that will run on the cloud. In some cases PaaS solutions are generally delivered as an integrated System offering both a development platform and an IT infrastructure on top of which applications will be executed.
Platform As a service Examples : Microsoft’s Azure. A application platform that allows applications to be hosted and run at Microsoft datacenters Google’s App Engine (App Engine). Let customers built virtual Java or Python Web application on Google servers.
Platform As a service
Software As a service SaaS means a customer runs software remotely via the Internet. SaaS solutions provide end users with an integrated service comprising hardware, development platforms, and applications. Users not allowed to customize the services but get access to a specific application hosted in the cloud. SaaS eliminates worries about application servers, storage, application development and related common concerns of IT.
Software As a service
Users and providers of cloud computing: SaaS providers can also be cloud users.
There is practically no difference between SaaS and PaaS when it comes to services consumption. The only advantage to PaaS is that it offers development and service hosting opportunity, where as SaaS is already hosted.
Advantages of Cloud Computing !
Advantages : Scalability/ Resources flexibility. Instant / real time. Better hardware management. Easier to share content “social networking” Can access the applications from anywhere, and at all times. Save money / Cost Effective Pay for only what you use “pay per use” Saving setup and monitoring costs.
Disadvantages of Cloud Computing !
Disadvantages : The lack of trust between companies and storage providers. Depending on third-party(the vendor): The possibility that the storage providers could close up shop, which could make it hard to retrieve the data. Inability to access the servers where the user data is being held, may be occur. Peripherals (such as printers or scanners ) may not work. Relies 100% on network connections. Requires a constant Internet connection. Doesn’t Work Well with Low-Speed Connections. Needs to high bandwidth.
C hallenges of Cloud Computing
Challenges of cloud computing ! Cloud computing introduce new challenges and problems yet to be faced: [1] Data mobility. If I move to a competing service provider, can I take my date with me? [2] Service levels. Cloud computing services aren’t entirely one-size-fits-all. [3] Security ( privacy & confidentiality of data. ) At the moment, there is not clear which kind of measures, tools are taken to guarantee the privacy of data. [4] Legality. System applications are hosted into datacentres in different country where different laws on digital content apply.
Conclusion
The long dreamed vision of computing as a utility is finally emerging . Cloud computing might be more accurately described as SKY Computing. With many isolated clouds of services which IT customers must plug into individually. Move toward cloud computing is signal to fundamental shift to how we handle information. The best use of clouds would be to be able to move specific workloads from internal servers to a cloud providers to take advantages of the cloud provider’s additional capacity, move it back when the rush is over and pay only for the resources you used.
C loud Computing Tomorrow ?
All IT companies are throwing resources into cloud computing.. Cloud Computing seems likely that much of the world’s digital information will be living in the clouds long before some questions about this new trend are resolved! such as: - What type of system architecture do we need? - How are customer requests for services processed ? Cloud computing will affect all levels of the computational system , from casual user to software developers, IT managers, even hardware manufacturer.

  • 4. W hat’s cloud computing?
  • 5. What’s cloud computing? It’s a computing model not a technology. Some analysts define cloud computing narrowly as an updated version of utility computing, other go very abroad say anything you consume outside the firewall.
  • 6. What’s a cloud computing? It possible to define some key elements that characterize this trend! We can define it as : [1] Cloud computing refers to both the applications delivered as services over the internet and the hardware and system software in the data centres that provide those services.
  • 7. What’s a cloud computing? OR [2] Type of parallel and distributed system consisting of a collection of interconnected and virtualized computers that are dynamically provisioned and presented as one or more unified computing resources.
  • 8. Whether it’s called: Cloud computing or on-demand computing, The common element is: The shift in the geography of computation.
  • 10. Confusion between cloud computing and some technical terms ! Cloud computing can be confused with: [1] Grid Computing : A form of distributed computing, whereby a 'super and virtual computer' is composed of a cluster of networked, loosely coupled computers acting in concert to perform very large tasks.
  • 11. Confusion between cloud computing and some technical terms ! Cloud computing can be confused with: [2] Utility Computing: The packaging of computing resources such as computing power, storage, as a metered services ( similar to a traditional public utility, such as electricity ).
  • 13. More about cloud computing ..
  • 15. A Brief history of Cloud Computing !
  • 17. A Brief history 2005 - Amazon provides access to their excess capacity on a utility computing and storage basis. 2007 - Google, IBM, various Universities embark on a large scale cloud computing research project. 2008 - Gartner says cloud computing will “shape the relationship among consumers of IT services, those who use IT services and those who sell them”
  • 19. The name cloud computing was inspired by the cloud symbol that's often used to represent the Internet in flow charts and diagrams.
  • 20. Types of Cloud Computing !
  • 21. Private Cloud ! ( Internal Cloud ): A cloud computing-like environment within the boundaries ( firewall ) of an organization and typically for its exclusive usage.
  • 23. Hybrid Cloud ! A computing environment combining both private (internal) and public (external) cloud computing environments.
  • 24.
  • 25. S ervices offering by Cloud Computing
  • 26. S ervices offering by Cloud Computing The wide variety of cloud computing services can be classified as: 1- Infrastructure as a service ( IaaS ). 2- Platform as a service ( PaaS ). 3- Software as a service ( SaaS ).
  • 28. Infrastructure As a service Examples : Amazon Simple Storage Services (Amazon S3 ). Which customer pay based on storage capacity. Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2). Which customer pay for compute resources by the hour.
  • 29. Infrastructure As a service
  • 30. Infrastructure As a service
  • 31. Infrastructure As a service Comparing between traditional hosting and cloud hosting , Video Three distinct characteristics that differentiate clouds from traditional hosting It is sold on demand. It is elastic. The service is fully managed by the provider.
  • 32. Platform As a service PaaS provides an application or development platform in which users can create their own application that will run on the cloud. In some cases PaaS solutions are generally delivered as an integrated System offering both a development platform and an IT infrastructure on top of which applications will be executed.
  • 33. Platform As a service Examples : Microsoft’s Azure. A application platform that allows applications to be hosted and run at Microsoft datacenters Google’s App Engine (App Engine). Let customers built virtual Java or Python Web application on Google servers.
  • 34. Platform As a service
  • 36. Software As a service
  • 37. Users and providers of cloud computing: SaaS providers can also be cloud users.
  • 38. There is practically no difference between SaaS and PaaS when it comes to services consumption. The only advantage to PaaS is that it offers development and service hosting opportunity, where as SaaS is already hosted.
  • 39. Advantages of Cloud Computing !
  • 40. Advantages : Scalability/ Resources flexibility. Instant / real time. Better hardware management. Easier to share content “social networking” Can access the applications from anywhere, and at all times. Save money / Cost Effective Pay for only what you use “pay per use” Saving setup and monitoring costs.
  • 41. Disadvantages of Cloud Computing !
  • 43. C hallenges of Cloud Computing
  • 47. C loud Computing Tomorrow ?
