Note
s the saying goes, you can't feel
Ahappiness without feeling sad.
Similarly, "Health is not valued till
sickness comes." - Thomas Fuller. How often
do we neglect self-care, ignore warning signs,
or prioritize other aspects of life over our
well-being until illness strikes?
It's a sobering reality that many of us have
experienced firsthand. When we're healthy,
it's easy to overlook the importance of
maintaining a balanced lifestyle, nurturing
our mental and physical health, and seeking
preventative care. Yet, the moment sickness
disrupts our daily lives, our perspective shifts
dramatically.
Suddenly, we find ourselves longing for the
vitality we once possessed, yearning for the
energy to engage in the activities we love, and
wishing for a return to normalcy. It's during
these times of vulnerability that we come face
to face with the true value of health.
Amidst the realization of health's profound
significance, Denmark—one of the top three
happiest countries in the world, with
healthcare playing an important role—has
become a representative of progressive
healthcare through the ingenious influence of
leaders who understand the importance of life.
The people leading health innovation in
Denmark are those whose efficiency and
inventiveness have brought the country to the
forefront of global health issues.
The latest release of Euro Health Leaders is an
edition titled 'Champions of Health:
Spotlight on Leaders Shaping Denmark's
Healthcare,' shedding light on the leaders
who, through their innovative policies and
progressive research, have become epicenters
in providing seekers with high-quality and
easily accessible health care.

Healthcare, where breakthroughs are often
celebrated, lacks attention to one domain -
allergies. An allergy, a complex immune system
response to typically harmless substances, can manifest
itself in a range of symptoms when the allergic individual
encounters an allergen. From mild discomfort to severe
reactions, allergies impact millions worldwide.
Torben Frank Andersen emerges as a champion of health
committed to addressing this overlooked field of healthcare.
He recognized the limitations of traditional approaches and
ventured into the domain, driven by the belief that the
solution lies in addressing allergies at their core.
As the Founder and Owner of ,
AllergiKompagniet
Torben has dedicated his significant professional years to
revolutionizing allergy treatment through ALFA
Kinesiology—an advanced method designed to explore the
depths of the subconscious, offering profound relief for
allergies, anxiety, and phobias.
ALFA Kinesiology has gained prominence for its efficacy in
treating various health issues, notably allergies. Torben,
armed with a Ph.D. in Biology and expertise in Alfa-
Kinesiology, founded AllergiKompagniet with a
mission—to provide a swift, medicine-free, and highly
effective treatment for allergies of all kinds and across all
age groups.
Torben challenges conventional methods with
AllergiKompagniet's unique approach. By treating allergies
as psychosomatic ailments, Torben and his team have
crafted a treatment methodology that is not only natural and
easy to practice but has also demonstrated remarkable
success in curing various allergic reactions.
In our exclusive interaction with Torben, we explore the
story behind AllergiKompagniet and gain insights into how
he is reshaping healthcare in Denmark.
Dive into the tale where science, relentless dedication, and
innovative approaches converge, all in the pursuit of a
healthier future.
From Ph.D. to Healing Hands
After completing his Ph.D. in Biology at the University of
Copenhagen, Torben Andersen embarked on a scientific
career. However, a desire for more meaningful human
connections led him to explore alternative paths. Intrigued
by ALFA Kinesiology, he underwent training in the field
and has dedicated almost 25 years to its practice.
Reflecting on his journey, Torben states, "I started primarily
with pain relief therapy. I had great success cooperating
with the Danish communes, who sent clients when Doctors
had given up, and we still got more than half back to work."
Unfortunately, this collaboration faced a setback in 2007
due to the reorganization of the communes. In response,
during the transitional period, Torben established
AllergiKompagniet, replacing RygKompagniet (The Back
Company). This transition was fueled by the realization that
allergy treatment, with its efficiency and applicability in the
private market, could be managed in fewer sessions.
Since its inception, AllergiKompagniet has been at the
forefront of treating over 18,000 clients with diverse health
challenges. Torben and his team have successfully
addressed allergies, asthma, eczema, intolerances,
hypersensitivities, autoimmune diseases, and more through
their unique method.
Denmark's Premier Institution for All-Natural Allergy
Relief
In the field of allergy treatment, AllergiKompagniet stands
as an institution of innovation and success. With a
commitment to providing a healthy, highly effective, and
medicine-free solution for all types of allergies across
various age groups, the company has become a leader in
Denmark's complementary healthcare landscape.
Torben emphasizes its unique position in the market,
stating, "We are the largest complementary company
treating allergies in Denmark because our primary focus is
allergies, which no one else has chosen." This singular

dedication sets them apart, offering a specialized approach
to addressing allergic conditions.
Unlike other therapeutic methods that may claim limited
success, often providing relief for only a single season,
AllergiKompagniet boasts remarkable results. Clients
treated by the company have reported being allergy-free for
over 15 years. This longevity of effectiveness speaks
volumes about the comprehensive and enduring impact of
their treatments.
Supported by data from a substantial client base,
AllergiKompagniet's approach yields impressive outcomes.
On average, they successfully alleviate 79% of allergy
symptoms and reduce the need for medication by 76% with
fewer than two treatments per allergy. This statistic is
derived from feedback received from 600 clients,
encompassing a spectrum of over 1100 allergies.
Botanical Expertise Redefining Allergy Testing
Torben, with a background as a biologist, brings an in-depth
understanding of the human body and its interaction with
the environment to the forefront of AllergiKompagniet's
allergy testing. His botanical expertise plays a crucial role
in crafting detailed test samples, particularly in addressing
pollen allergies.
In Denmark, the standard skin prick test typically focuses
on the Birch tree and Timothy grass. AllergiKompagniet,
however, goes beyond the norm, testing for over 30 species
of grass. Torben's ability to pinpoint clients' allergic
reactions by identifying the specific species involved sets
their approach apart.
Recognizing Birch tree pollen as the most allergenic,
Torben acknowledges the prevalence of allergies to other
tree pollens. Addressing this concern, he notes, "I
personally collect all these samples each year to have fresh
samples for our testing." This dedication extends to testing
around 25 species of tree pollen, ensuring a comprehensive
approach to allergy treatment.
He further expresses, "Now I spend more time in nature
than I did when I worked at the University, so I feel that I'm
back where I want to be, in contact and connection with
nature."
Redefining Allergy Treatment through Neurological
Reconditioning
During a session at AllergiKompagniet, the therapist
initiates the process by identifying which allergens are
relevant to the client. A thorough selection is made on either
the first experienced or the most severe allergy for
treatment. Employing specific techniques, the therapist tests
the origins of the allergy, determining the age at which it
was created.
We are the largest

trea ng allergies in
Denmark, because our
primary focus is allergies,
which no one else have
chosen.
‘‘
‘
‘
A key aspect of the treatment involves guiding the brain to
relax in the presence of the allergen. This is achieved by
redirecting signals from the amygdala to the frontal lobes,
shifting the response from an emotional reaction to a logical
interpretation. Remarkably, this exercise often results in the
alleviation of all other allergic responses.
Following the initial treatment, a period of observation
ensues to determine the emergence of additional symptoms
upon exposure to allergens. On average, AllergiKompagniet
anticipates a range of 3-6 treatments per client to achieve
comprehensive and lasting results.
Cracking the Code
In a groundbreaking realization, Torben asserts that
allergies are similar to chemical phobias. This
understanding became evident when a young boy,
undergoing treatment for a social phobia, witnessed the
disappearance of his grass pollen allergy during the session.
Torben highlights, "Nobody before us has treated allergies
as a psychosomatic ailment."
Now I spend more
me in nature than I did
when I worked at the
University, so I feel that I’m
back where I want to be, in
contact and connec on
with nature.
‘‘
‘
‘
Engaging with psychologists who readily recognize the
parallels, AllergiKompagniet stands alone in its unique
perspective. Notably, the distinctive aspect of their method
is the rapid disappearance of symptoms within minutes
during treatment. Torben sees this as proof that they have
successfully deciphered the code governing allergies.
In contrast to conventional medical approaches, such as
vaccinations, AllergiKompagniet treats all allergies of a
client simultaneously. Torben emphasizes the efficiency of
their method, achieving comprehensive results at a fraction
of the cost and discomfort associated with traditional
approaches.
Navigating Challenges
A new method in healthcare prompts concerns and
questions, necessitating thorough investigation.
AllergiKompagniet also encounters misconceptions and
distrust, particularly from the medical community. Torben,
the driving force behind the innovative approach,
acknowledges the inherent challenges, stating, "The amount
of positive data we have accumulated over time has
somewhat silenced the opposition."
Rooted in a biologist's belief in empirical data, the method's
consistent positive outcomes have proven noteworthy.
Despite accumulating evidence, allergy specialists in
Denmark remain reluctant to participate in a scientific
study. Torben highlights the paradox, pointing out that
doctors, bound by the oath to prioritize harmless and
healthy methods, might find it daunting to endorse a
technique developed by a biologist.
Being at the front lines of an entirely new method poses its
own challenges, especially when the claims involve aspects
not fully understood by the public. Torben has actively
addressed skepticism by participating in Danish TV
programs and investing considerable effort in explaining the
theory on the company's website and to clients. Despite
these efforts, some skepticism persists, but Torben
emphasizes, "the only skeptics we cannot treat, are the ones
that don't show up!"
Complementary Healthcare in Denmark
In Denmark, the embrace of various complementary
methods like acupuncture, massage, zone therapy,
kinesiology, chiropractic care, and dietary specialists is
commonplace. However, the widespread adoption of these
methods faces a significant hurdle – the financial burden
endured entirely by the individual, in contrast to the free
access to conventional medical services.
Torben sheds light on this disparity, emphasizing the
existence of two parallel systems that operate independently
without mutual collaboration. Medical doctors are restricted
from referring patients to most complementary treatments,
creating a lack of synergy between the two healthcare
paradigms.
Expressing his belief, Torben asserts, "I truly believe that
you get more HEALTH for your money in complementary
treatments, thereby preventing DISEASE, which is the
main focus of the public 'Health' Care system." The
emphasis here is on shifting the focus from disease
management to proactive health measures. Torben argues
that addressing lifestyle-generated ailments through
complementary treatments could ease pressure on hospitals,
where healthcare professionals are often overburdened.
To bridge the gap, Torben advocates granting doctors the
authority to refer patients to qualified therapists and
providing a partial refund to incentivize individuals to
explore complementary healthcare options independently.
This, he suggests, could not only enhance the overall health
and well-being of the population but also contribute to a
more harmonious and integrated healthcare landscape in
Denmark.
Scientific Validation and Global Impact
Torben envisions a future where the efficacy of
AllergiKompagniet's method is scientifically proven,
moving it from an alternative to an accepted treatment
within the healthcare system. Expressing his primary goal,
Torben states, "My biggest goal for the future would
Decoding
Allergies
In their recent publication, Torben and his
colleague, Ole Larsen, shed light on their
method and the underlying causes of allergies.
The book not only serves as a guide for
treating and preventing allergies but also
explores the reasons behind the steady rise in
allergy cases, attributed in part to the
demands of the Western lifestyle.
One of the key factors highlighted in the book
is the impact of stress overload and frequent
antibiotic treatments on disturbing the
microbial balance in our intestines and skin,
contributing to the development of allergies.
The book includes over 40 real-life cases of
clients with diverse ailments. These cases
showcase the successful outcomes of the
treatment method, often achieved in a
remarkably short span of sessions.
Originally in Danish, the book has been
translated into English with the title: "The
Allergy Enigma is solved!". The English version
of the book awaits publication as Torben seeks
the right publisher or project to bring their
method and insights to a broader audience.
The book promises to be a valuable resource
for individuals seeking to navigate the
complexities of allergies and explore effective
preventive and treatment approaches.
definitely be to prove scientifically that the method works."
He recalls a mini experiment conducted on a TV program in
2015, which left two evaluating MDs astonished and
suggesting a larger study.
To achieve scientific validation, the participation of a
medical doctor is essential, requiring additional financial
support. Torben expresses readiness to commence the
project once the necessary requirements are met. Once
scientifically proven, the method could be integrated into
mainstream healthcare, allowing medical doctors to refer
clients and potentially expanding AllergiKompagniet's
reach.
Beyond national borders, Torben aspires to educate students
abroad in this unique method, currently unfamiliar outside
Denmark. Recognizing the global rise in allergic
individuals, he emphasizes, "There is an estimated 1 billion
Allergic people in the world today, rising to 4 billion in
2050 according to the World Allergy Forum. Our method
could indeed make a difference worldwide in a safe, healthy
and medicine-free way."
To achieve this global vision, Torben seeks both financial
and operational partners in the relevant countries. By
combining resources and expertise, AllergiKompagniet
aims to play a pivotal role in addressing the growing global
challenge of allergies in a transformative and accessible
manner.
Paving the Path to Excellence
In offering valuable advice to healthcare professionals
aspiring to elevate the field, Torben shares a mantra that
encapsulates his journey: "Believe in your method, keep
educating yourselves, keep an open mind, persevere, and
above all – be PATIENT!" Torben underscores the
importance of faith in one's approach, continuous learning,
maintaining an open-minded approach, persistence, and
cultivating patience.
Highlighting the common challenge faced by therapists,
Torben emphasizes, "You are NOT an expert from the
beginning," acknowledging that doubt often creeps in
before professionals have the chance to learn from their
mistakes. He urges healthcare practitioners not to succumb
to self-doubt and to recognize that mistakes are part of the
learning process. Torben encourages individuals to embrace
these errors, learn from them, and ultimately grow in their
practice.
Among the countless testimonials received by
Torben, one of the most captivating stories
involves a lady in her sixties who, after four
sessions many years ago, wrote to express a
newfound freedom: "Free at least from 30
years of imprisonment." Battling severe
Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) since her
early twenties, she had lived a secluded life,
unable to participate in social activities due to
the debilitating nature of her symptoms. After
the sessions, she went out for dinner in a
restaurant without experiencing any
symptoms, enjoying the company of others for
the first time in over three decades.
Remarkably, more than 15 years later, she
continues to thrive, showcasing the profound
and lasting impact of AllergiKompagniet's
method.
Another compelling case involves a man
dealing with severe eczema that covered most
of his body. Despite undergoing various
hospital treatments, including light therapy,
tar baths, and applying hormone cream twice
a day, he remained skeptical when seeking
help from Torben. After just one treatment
and a month-long dietary adjustment, his
eczema significantly improved. When he
returned for his regular light treatment at the
hospital, the transformation was so
overwhelming that the medical staff struggled
to recognize him. Despite acknowledging the
effectiveness of Torben's treatment, they
were unable to officially refer or recommend
it. Years later, the man remains in good health,
highlighting the enduring success of the
method employed by AllergiKompagniet.

here to offer both realistic and light-hearted advice without
making anyone feel uncomfortable.
But why Scandinavian Biolabs? After graduating law
school, I spent quite a few years in management consulting
at Kearney, especially working within consumer goods
across strategy, category management and procurement
across groceries, fashion, and many other sectors. Here, I
fell in love with the tangibility of physical products, and
how you can make 100.000's of people happier or healthier
every day through creating something truly great.
How does your experience in FMCG, strategy, and
operational excellence contribute to the overall vision
and growth of the company?
From working with large corporates and within the FMCG
sector, you start to know what great looks like, and what is
important on a very holistic level, not just with specific
issues - especially when it comes to operations and
processes.
By having spent some time in the sector, you also know
what we should aim for and look like in a few years, which
is something that guides many of our decisions – something
might seem high-effort with very low impact in the short-
term, but by having spent time with other companies, you
understand that it will lead to real value-creation, even
though it might seem like high-effort in the moment.
However, I have also learned that conventional thinking
from the FMCG world rarely works in challenger brands
when it comes to sales – you need to be open to non-linear
thinking that can kick-start growth in new ways. You can't
just do what the established companies are doing, as they
already have a ton of brand equity. This is something I
constantly need to remind myself of, and you need to
challenge your linear thinking constantly or you will
forever be trailing behind.
As a former Management Consultant from A. T.
Kearney, how has your experience shaped his leadership
style and approach to leading high-performing teams
and complex projects?
I learned a ton in consulting – data, finance, strategy and
problem-solving – that I use every day in Scandinavian
Biolabs to help guide our decision-making.
This also applies to project management. In consulting and
working with people on the C-suite level early in your
career, you learn how to break down issues into the most
important data-point or decision that truly matters.
However, the tail-end of this is also going from working in
a project-oriented setting, with people extremely similar to
yourself and with similar backgrounds, towards being an
effective leader – not just an effective manager. I was aware
of this before we started growing our team in Scandinavian
Biolabs. However, truly leading a set of passionate people
towards a shared vision requires something different than
managing.
While clarity between a team and solving is still really
important, you sometimes have to embrace the complexity
of the issues you are facing with a mindset of not being able
to break it down – where it can truly only be solved by
having unnatural great human relations in a team, and
having a team that can withstand pressure in situations that
are extremely uncertain and don't have any logical solution
(or you don't have the time/resources to find it). Such
situations happen every day in challenger brands, but very
rarely in consulting projects.
On the leadership side, I always try to lead with trust, but
expect a very high-level of communication, structure, and
ownership among our team-members.
Could you provide some insights into the company's
focus on using naturally derived and vegan ingredients,
and how does this align with the company's values and
goals?
Scandinavian Biolabs was founded in 2020 in Copenhagen,
Denmark. One of the founders was Niels, our now COO. A
young man in his early 20s who had to face the difficult
reality of losing his hair.
Niels was determined to find a solution to his hair-loss that
was effective and drug-free. He didn't want to take the risk

is tailored to their individual needs and expectations – and
that they are guided every step of the way.
For us, transparency is a lot about expectations - we straight
up tell you what we can and cannot do for you. Like how
we can reduce hair loss and promote stronger, thicker hair,
but not turn you into Jared Leto. We're scientists, not
magicians.
In terms of production and sourcing, we are always striving
to do the best possible we can, without sacrificing efficacy.
All our core products are produced in Denmark to ensure
that we can always check batches of product and ensure that
working conditions are best-in-class.
Can you give us some examples of the innovative use of
plant-based ingredients in the company's products, and
how does this differentiate the brand from competitors
in the market?
As a non-medicated formula, Bio-Pilixin® does not include
any ingredients known to change your body's metabolism
or to have hormone-disrupting effects – this is a core-
differentiator for us.
In our core-formula, we differentiate from others by not
only relying on tsting individual ingredients, but also the
cocktail-effect of the formula. Among our 12 active
ingredients, working together to strengthen, soothe,
revitalise and repair your hair, we use Capilia Longa,
Niacinamide and Vanillyl Butyl Ether.
What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs
looking to make a positive impact in their respective
fields?
Don't just chase the next opportunity for the sake of
achieving it – do it because it makes you feel good.
Don't do what is expected of you from others, not in your
personal life, in your career or in business decisions.
Please give us a few testimonials from your clients and
awards or recognition that accurately highlight your
achievements in the corporate niche.
We only work as a team in Scandinavian Biolabs, and my
role is to support our fantastic team members to do their
best – all achievements we make are ours as a team, and not
a single individual.
What we have done in less than three years – helped more
than 80.000 customers all over Europe through our products
– is a fantastic journey to be part of, and I think that speaks
for itself.
of using pills or medical topical treatments that could have
disastrous side effects. This concern motivated him to
search for an alternative solution, leading to the creation of
Scandinavian Biolabs.
Looking back at this mission, focusing on harnessing the
natural power of ingredients and enhancing it by science is
the core of our mission in providing functional hair-care
products that you can trust to work with your body and not
against it.
Can you elaborate on how the company ensures full
transparency in terms of production and ingredient
sourcing?
We prioritize clinical transparency in our functional
products. We strive to ensure that our customers understand
the ingredients that each of our products have, and how
they work to help them. This is also why we have carried
out a 150 day clinical testing of our core product – while
many solutions offer experienced-based surveys of their
customers, we took the extra step to secure that our Bio-
Pilixin® Serum was scientifically evaluated through real
tests, by real doctors, and not only through perceived
consumer effect.
We want to make sure our customers are confident that they
are making an informed decision when it comes to their hair
care. We also make sure to provide our customers with a
holistic and transparent approach to hair care. We want to
provide them with a path to successful and healthy hair that

Matt, can you share a bit about your professional
journey and how your experience has influenced your
leadership style at Aquaporin A/S?
My professional journey is a blend of scientific rigor and
entrepreneurial acumen, which contributes to shaping my
hands on leadership style at Aquaporin A/S. Beginning with
a solid foundation in microbiology, I was always fascinated
with health sciences and a deep understanding of complex
biological systems. I then transitioned into chemical
engineering, where I was able to apply my scientific
principles to practical, real-world challenges. My global
work experience, working with some of the largest
organizations in very diverse cultural settings, not only
broadened my professional outlook but also ingrained in me
a versatile and adaptive leadership approach. Throughout
my career, I have always remained connected and involved
in health and the environment, demonstrated through hands-
on involvement in water treatment projects, renewable
energy, public health and most recently Aquaporin. I have a
passion to work on topics that make a direct positive impact
on society.
What personal experiences or values drive your passion
for finding innovative solutions to global water
challenges?
I have volunteered in public health in Peru, and this has
opened my eyes to the importance of access to clean water.
I saw hands first the positive impact that clean drinking
water makes on people living in remote communities. What
drives me is the desire to make a positive impact, to help
society. I am an individual with a high sense of empathy,
meaning that I automatically project myself in the shoes of
others in anything that I do. This helps me drive my
decision making, innovative spirit and creativity. I like to
surround myself with creative individuals, which is how
you end up shaping a company and influencing its culture.
One person at a time.
Could you elaborate on the company's mission and how
it aligns with your vision for the future of water
purification?
At Aquaporin A/S we are dedicated to addressing one of the
world's most pressing challenges: sustainable access to
clean water. Our mission revolves around harnessing the
power of nature's own water filtration system, aquaporins,
to develop revolutionary purification technologies. Our goal
is that our biomimetic membranes mimic the natural water
filtration process, offering an energy-efficient and
environmentally friendly solution to water scarcity and
contamination issues. Ultimately, I would like Aquaporin to
revolutionize water purification across the globe, making it
more accessible, efficient, and sustainable. This is an
enormous challenge as blending biology and synthetic
membranes is challenging. Nevertheless, it is exactly this
challenge that piques my curiosity and gets me going
everyday. We have a really unique approach and I believe it
will take many different ideas coming from all over the
world to solve our water crisis. Aquaporin is part of the
solution. By continuously innovating and improving our
technology, Aquaporin aspires to lead the way in advanced
water technologies, contributing to the health of both
people and the planet.
As the CEO of Aquaporin A/S, what leadership
principles do you prioritize in guiding your team of
dedicated professionals?
I emphasize a number of principles, when guiding my team.
I focus a lot on taking ownership and responsibility, not
being afraid to make mistakes, being curious, creative,
innovative and working well with teams. I put an equally
high importance on empathy, inclusivity, respect and
collaboration.
While fostering a positive work culture, I like to maintain a
focus on results and performance. Setting clear objectives,
measuring progress, and holding the team accountable
ensures that the company continues to advance towards its
mission.
What values do you emphasize to ensure a collaborative
and innovative work environment within Aquaporin
A/S?
Aquaporin's values are as follows:
Commitment to Customers: Aquaporin prioritizes customer
needs, recognizing that their success determines the
company's success.
I am an individual
with a high sense of
empathy, meaning that I
automa cally project myself
in the shoes of others in
anything that I do.

Focus on Key Applications: The company strategically
focuses on specific applications to drive growth.
Dare to Innovate: Aquaporin is dedicated to breaking the
status quo by exploring new methods and approaches.
Collaborative Spirit: Collaboration with stakeholders is key
to making a difference in the water industry.
Empowerment with Responsibility: The company
empowers its team to act with both passion and
responsibility, fostering a culture of accountable and
enthusiastic engagement.
These values ensure that we have a collaborative and
innovative work environment.
In addressing global water challenges, what role does
Aquaporin A/S play in contributing to sustainable and
environmentally friendly solutions?
Aquaporin develops products that purify water, reuse water
and decrease the energy consumption required to filter
water. This has a direct positive contribution in making
clean and healthy drinking water. We indirectly have a
positive impact on the carbon footprint of water
installations as our technology is often more energy
efficient than products used by our potential customers.
Since our main area of activity is water purification,
everything that we do ends up contributing to a more
efficient water or process solution.
What goals and aspirations do you have for Aquaporin
A/S in the coming years, both in terms of business
growth and impact on global water challenges?
Aquaporin will continue to grow in our focus areas of
residential drinking water, industrial RO membranes and
select applications in Forward Osmosis where we deliver
the most value. I would like to continue pushing what we
can accomplish with our biotechnology so that the impact
of our products can continue the energy savings and
increase in water throughput. Achieving this will translate
into both business impact and contributing to solving global
water challenges.
What key piece of advice would you offer to emerging
leaders looking to make a significant impact in their
respective industries?
My biggest advice is to always be curious, open to
collaborations and new ideas. Surround yourself with strong
people that bridge your weaknesses and share your passion
towards your vision and goal. Create a spirit of unity and
enjoy the journey!

approach serves as a source of inspiration. By prioritizing
patients' needs and experiences, healthcare systems
worldwide can create a healthier, more compassionate, and
more sustainable future for all. They can learn from
Denmark's example and prioritize patient-centric care as the
cornerstone of healthcare delivery.
Denmark's innovative path towards patient-centric
healthcare offers a blueprint for countries worldwide
seeking to enhance the quality, efficiency, and overall
experience of their healthcare systems. By placing patients
at the center of care delivery, prioritizing preventative
measures, embracing technology and innovation, and
empowering patients in decision-making, Denmark has set
a new standard for healthcare excellence. Let us follow the

For BioPorto's
distribution and
antibodies business, we
have hired a manager
with experience driving
success from offices in
Denmark. He has
quickly connected with
the partners and
identified opportunities
to expand.
Tony Pare
CEO
BIOPORTO A/S
February 2024 www.eurohealthleaders.com

Tony Pare
Leading with Innovation
in Medical Devices
n the medical device industry, perseverance,
Iadaptability, and commitment are vital for improving
patient outcomes. Tony Pare, CEO of BIOPORTO
A/S, truly embodies these values after 25 years in medical
devices and diagnostics.
Throughout his career, he consistently recognized a gap in
diagnosing and treating Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), a
complication from another serious illness that causes
kidneys to stop functioning properly. His drive to change
this therapeutic shortfall inspired him to join a company
determined to change this.
Channelling Family Crisis
After graduating with a Marine Engineering degree, Tony
worked with a major shipbuilder to test nuclear submarines
for the US Navy. He then went on to manage a large service
organization for an industrial automation systems
manufacturer.
Like many, Tony witnessed clinicians struggling due to
limited diagnostic tools, resulting in needless patient deaths.
This became painfully evident when his mother passed
away at 54 and his father died in the ICU at 70 without a
clear diagnosis. After his mother's death, he changed
careers, joining a blood processing device and diagnostics
manufacturer. During his journey in medical devices and
diagnostics, Tony encountered numerous families
experiencing the same frustrating hospital experiences he
had, lacking proper tools to diagnose and treat their loved
ones. This drives his passion to make a difference through
his work, leading him to join BioPorto Diagnostics as CEO.
Roles & Responsibilities as a CEO
At the helm, Tony spends most of his time developing
strategy, hiring and leading the right team that can drive
execution, and ensuring that he secures the appropriate
capital. BioPorto's specific expertise in antibodies and assay
development enables it to generate IVD products
addressing areas with substantial medical needs, such as
AKI. It's IVD business has technical and regulatory teams
delivering products worldwide. In addition, its antibody
business is noted as offering unique and high-quality
products. The strategy Tony develops has resulted in
revenue and product quality increasing annually.
Tony's role is to ensure the company has the funding,
resources, and focus to drive global market awareness and
adoption of this life-saving test. BioPorto is fortunate to
have access to educated and skilled people in Denmark.
The CEO is proud of the Hellerup Cube Space Copenhagen
team and enjoys the Danish work life and biking to work
when he is in Denmark.
The Ground-breaking Technology
Acute kidney injury can occur without ever being detected.
AKI is a rapid loss of kidney function that typically occurs
as a complication of another serious illness or intervention
in the hospital. However, AKI can be difficult to identify
because it doesn't typically cause pain or other symptoms
but can result in minor loss of kidney function to complete
kidney failure. To improve chances for survival, it is
essential that AKI is detected early and treated promptly.
Right now, when it comes to evaluating AKI, doctors
mainly look at changes in serum creatinine and urine
output. However, these indicators are slow to respond to the
start of an Acute Kidney Injury, are not very specific, and
can be influenced by things like diet and muscle mass. This
means that many patients with hospital-acquired AKI are
unaware of their AKI diagnosis as it is often not detected,
leading to potential kidney complications further down the
road.
As AKI manifests, patients suffer both structural damage
and functional impairment, with the former happening
considerably earlier. BioPorto's flagship product is a
TM
laboratory test, The NGAL Test for identifying the
Champions of Health: Spotlight on Leaders Shaping Denmark's Healthcare
February 2024 www.eurohealthleaders.com
33
presence of structural damage. The test enables AKI to be
detected within 2-4 hours of the injury (when structural
damage occurs), days earlier than with serum creatinine
which detects functional damage. According to research by
Dr. Prasad Devarajan, Chief of Nephrology and
Hypertension at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, and a
consultant with BioPorto, serum creatinine does not
increase until approximately 50% of the kidney's functional
capability is already gone.
By using the NGAL Test for earlier diagnosis, doctors can
make better treatment decisions tailored to each patient.
NGAL values can be helpful in various medical situations,
from the emergency room to surgery preparation and
specialized care units like those for heart, children, or
newborn patients. This helps healthcare teams identify
structural kidney damage, whether it happened before or
during the hospital stay, and guides them in choosing the
right treatment approach. If a clinician can identify AKI
early, they can take preventative measures to diminish the
injury and progression of kidney disease.
Product and Services Offerings
BioPorto's flagship product, The NGAL Test, used for
identifying the presence of structural damage can help
identify Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) in its early stages. If a
clinician can identify AKI early, they can take preventative
measures to diminish the injury and progression of kidney
disease.
Today's standard of care diagnostics are too late in
diagnosing AKI, which unfortunately means clinicians
could miss an opportunity to prevent chronic kidney
disease, and the potential for a lifetime of dialysis.
The Geopolitical Angle
The U.S. is the biggest market for BioPorto's NGAL Test,
where its clearance remains under review by the FDA. It
already has clearance to sell in the European Union and
elsewhere through a CE Mark registration.
Prior to Tony joining, BioPorto did not focus commercially
on these other approved markets, and therefore clinicians
were not aware of the The NGAL Test or its clinical value.
Therefore, under Tony's guidance, BioPorto is now
investing in commercializing specific markets in Europe,
Korea and around the world. This is through a combination
of marketing and adding medical affairs and commercial
staff in Europe. The collaborations with clinical researchers
such as Professor Christian Hassager, Department of
Cardiology at Rigshospitalet, further the field of novel
biomarker work. The ultimate measure of success will be
increased market adoption and revenue for its flagship
product, The NGAL Test.
"For BioPorto's distribution and antibodies business, we
have hired commercial executives with experience driving
success from offices in Denmark. They have quickly
connected with the partners and identified opportunities to
expand."
Roadblocks and Resolutions
Tony has taken a proactive step to benefit investors in
BioPorto, by focusing the company's efforts on BioPorto's
primary objective: creating a valuable product for AKI with
life-saving potential. This strategic move ensures that
resources are concentrated on a singular, impactful goal,
promising better long-term results and increased value for
investors. In the world of smaller public companies, a
common challenge arises from shareholders' desire for a
continuous flow of positive news and new products, aiming
to enhance the company's value and generate quick trading
gains.
However, this enthusiasm can become counterproductive if
the company takes on too many projects simultaneously.
This can lead to significant resource and time investments,
delaying project completion. Tony understands this
inherently, and has kept the company's singular focus, while
keeping investors engaged.
First-in-class Strategy
Tony's strategy in every leadership position is:
Ÿ Set the "North Star" for the organization. In other words,
what big goal will we accomplish in the next 1-2 years?
Ÿ Define in detail the 3 areas of focus or "pillars" to
achieve the North Star. Most of the time this is a
Commercial strategy, an Operational strategy and a
People strategy.
Ÿ Hire the right people to lead, foster a team approach,
and guide as required.
Ÿ Set the right metrics and consistently communicate.
The Journey Ahead
Once BioPorto has FDA clearance and market adoption has
crossed the chasm from early adopters to the early majority,
it will need to create powerful commercial organizations. In
addition to Tony 's experience in this area, two members of
his leadership team have significant experience in building
sales channels and direct sales organizations.
From the Leader
"Focus, focus, focus and constantly remind yourself that the
mission is to save lives while building shareholder value.
Don't be distracted by every 'shiny object' that is presented
and always remember to treat shareholder capital like it is
your own."
Tony Pare successfully and
elegantly navigates science, passion
for service, strategic vision and
leadership in the most integrated
fashion. He leads with precision and
pivots with thoughtful discernment.
His leadership is rivaled only by sets
of competencies that he has
masterfully amassed over time. This
allows him to lead with a strong
resolve and direction punctuated by
his professional and personal
values, which anchor a culture of
exceptional and competitive
performance, servant leadership,
and continuous search for meaning
and innovation.

  • 13. Healthcare, where breakthroughs are often celebrated, lacks attention to one domain - allergies. An allergy, a complex immune system response to typically harmless substances, can manifest itself in a range of symptoms when the allergic individual encounters an allergen. From mild discomfort to severe reactions, allergies impact millions worldwide. Torben Frank Andersen emerges as a champion of health committed to addressing this overlooked field of healthcare. He recognized the limitations of traditional approaches and ventured into the domain, driven by the belief that the solution lies in addressing allergies at their core. As the Founder and Owner of , AllergiKompagniet Torben has dedicated his significant professional years to revolutionizing allergy treatment through ALFA Kinesiology—an advanced method designed to explore the depths of the subconscious, offering profound relief for allergies, anxiety, and phobias. ALFA Kinesiology has gained prominence for its efficacy in treating various health issues, notably allergies. Torben, armed with a Ph.D. in Biology and expertise in Alfa- Kinesiology, founded AllergiKompagniet with a mission—to provide a swift, medicine-free, and highly effective treatment for allergies of all kinds and across all age groups. Torben challenges conventional methods with AllergiKompagniet's unique approach. By treating allergies as psychosomatic ailments, Torben and his team have crafted a treatment methodology that is not only natural and easy to practice but has also demonstrated remarkable success in curing various allergic reactions. In our exclusive interaction with Torben, we explore the story behind AllergiKompagniet and gain insights into how he is reshaping healthcare in Denmark. Dive into the tale where science, relentless dedication, and innovative approaches converge, all in the pursuit of a healthier future. From Ph.D. to Healing Hands After completing his Ph.D. in Biology at the University of Copenhagen, Torben Andersen embarked on a scientific career. However, a desire for more meaningful human connections led him to explore alternative paths. Intrigued by ALFA Kinesiology, he underwent training in the field and has dedicated almost 25 years to its practice. Reflecting on his journey, Torben states, "I started primarily with pain relief therapy. I had great success cooperating with the Danish communes, who sent clients when Doctors had given up, and we still got more than half back to work." Unfortunately, this collaboration faced a setback in 2007 due to the reorganization of the communes. In response, during the transitional period, Torben established AllergiKompagniet, replacing RygKompagniet (The Back Company). This transition was fueled by the realization that allergy treatment, with its efficiency and applicability in the private market, could be managed in fewer sessions. Since its inception, AllergiKompagniet has been at the forefront of treating over 18,000 clients with diverse health challenges. Torben and his team have successfully addressed allergies, asthma, eczema, intolerances, hypersensitivities, autoimmune diseases, and more through their unique method. Denmark's Premier Institution for All-Natural Allergy Relief In the field of allergy treatment, AllergiKompagniet stands as an institution of innovation and success. With a commitment to providing a healthy, highly effective, and medicine-free solution for all types of allergies across various age groups, the company has become a leader in Denmark's complementary healthcare landscape. Torben emphasizes its unique position in the market, stating, "We are the largest complementary company treating allergies in Denmark because our primary focus is allergies, which no one else has chosen." This singular Champions of Health: Spotlight On Leaders Shaping Denmark's Healthcare There is an es mated 1 billion Allergic people in the world today, rising to 4 billion in 2050 according to the world allergy forum. Our method could indeed make a difference worldwide in a safe, healthy and medicine-free way. ‘‘ ‘ ‘
  • 14. dedication sets them apart, offering a specialized approach to addressing allergic conditions. Unlike other therapeutic methods that may claim limited success, often providing relief for only a single season, AllergiKompagniet boasts remarkable results. Clients treated by the company have reported being allergy-free for over 15 years. This longevity of effectiveness speaks volumes about the comprehensive and enduring impact of their treatments. Supported by data from a substantial client base, AllergiKompagniet's approach yields impressive outcomes. On average, they successfully alleviate 79% of allergy symptoms and reduce the need for medication by 76% with fewer than two treatments per allergy. This statistic is derived from feedback received from 600 clients, encompassing a spectrum of over 1100 allergies. Botanical Expertise Redefining Allergy Testing Torben, with a background as a biologist, brings an in-depth understanding of the human body and its interaction with the environment to the forefront of AllergiKompagniet's allergy testing. His botanical expertise plays a crucial role in crafting detailed test samples, particularly in addressing pollen allergies. In Denmark, the standard skin prick test typically focuses on the Birch tree and Timothy grass. AllergiKompagniet, however, goes beyond the norm, testing for over 30 species of grass. Torben's ability to pinpoint clients' allergic reactions by identifying the specific species involved sets their approach apart. Recognizing Birch tree pollen as the most allergenic, Torben acknowledges the prevalence of allergies to other
  • 15. tree pollens. Addressing this concern, he notes, "I personally collect all these samples each year to have fresh samples for our testing." This dedication extends to testing around 25 species of tree pollen, ensuring a comprehensive approach to allergy treatment. He further expresses, "Now I spend more time in nature than I did when I worked at the University, so I feel that I'm back where I want to be, in contact and connection with nature." Redefining Allergy Treatment through Neurological Reconditioning During a session at AllergiKompagniet, the therapist initiates the process by identifying which allergens are relevant to the client. A thorough selection is made on either the first experienced or the most severe allergy for treatment. Employing specific techniques, the therapist tests the origins of the allergy, determining the age at which it was created. We are the largest complementary company trea ng allergies in Denmark, because our primary focus is allergies, which no one else have chosen. ‘‘ ‘ ‘
  • 16. A key aspect of the treatment involves guiding the brain to relax in the presence of the allergen. This is achieved by redirecting signals from the amygdala to the frontal lobes, shifting the response from an emotional reaction to a logical interpretation. Remarkably, this exercise often results in the alleviation of all other allergic responses. Following the initial treatment, a period of observation ensues to determine the emergence of additional symptoms upon exposure to allergens. On average, AllergiKompagniet anticipates a range of 3-6 treatments per client to achieve comprehensive and lasting results. Cracking the Code In a groundbreaking realization, Torben asserts that allergies are similar to chemical phobias. This understanding became evident when a young boy, undergoing treatment for a social phobia, witnessed the disappearance of his grass pollen allergy during the session. Torben highlights, "Nobody before us has treated allergies as a psychosomatic ailment." Now I spend more me in nature than I did when I worked at the University, so I feel that I’m back where I want to be, in contact and connec on with nature. ‘‘ ‘ ‘
  • 17. Engaging with psychologists who readily recognize the parallels, AllergiKompagniet stands alone in its unique perspective. Notably, the distinctive aspect of their method is the rapid disappearance of symptoms within minutes during treatment. Torben sees this as proof that they have successfully deciphered the code governing allergies. In contrast to conventional medical approaches, such as vaccinations, AllergiKompagniet treats all allergies of a client simultaneously. Torben emphasizes the efficiency of their method, achieving comprehensive results at a fraction of the cost and discomfort associated with traditional approaches. Navigating Challenges A new method in healthcare prompts concerns and questions, necessitating thorough investigation. AllergiKompagniet also encounters misconceptions and distrust, particularly from the medical community. Torben, the driving force behind the innovative approach, acknowledges the inherent challenges, stating, "The amount of positive data we have accumulated over time has somewhat silenced the opposition." Rooted in a biologist's belief in empirical data, the method's consistent positive outcomes have proven noteworthy. Despite accumulating evidence, allergy specialists in Denmark remain reluctant to participate in a scientific study. Torben highlights the paradox, pointing out that doctors, bound by the oath to prioritize harmless and healthy methods, might find it daunting to endorse a technique developed by a biologist. Being at the front lines of an entirely new method poses its own challenges, especially when the claims involve aspects
  • 18. not fully understood by the public. Torben has actively addressed skepticism by participating in Danish TV programs and investing considerable effort in explaining the theory on the company's website and to clients. Despite these efforts, some skepticism persists, but Torben emphasizes, "the only skeptics we cannot treat, are the ones that don't show up!" Complementary Healthcare in Denmark In Denmark, the embrace of various complementary methods like acupuncture, massage, zone therapy, kinesiology, chiropractic care, and dietary specialists is commonplace. However, the widespread adoption of these methods faces a significant hurdle – the financial burden endured entirely by the individual, in contrast to the free access to conventional medical services. Torben sheds light on this disparity, emphasizing the existence of two parallel systems that operate independently without mutual collaboration. Medical doctors are restricted from referring patients to most complementary treatments, creating a lack of synergy between the two healthcare paradigms. Expressing his belief, Torben asserts, "I truly believe that you get more HEALTH for your money in complementary treatments, thereby preventing DISEASE, which is the main focus of the public 'Health' Care system." The emphasis here is on shifting the focus from disease management to proactive health measures. Torben argues that addressing lifestyle-generated ailments through complementary treatments could ease pressure on hospitals, where healthcare professionals are often overburdened. To bridge the gap, Torben advocates granting doctors the authority to refer patients to qualified therapists and providing a partial refund to incentivize individuals to explore complementary healthcare options independently. This, he suggests, could not only enhance the overall health and well-being of the population but also contribute to a more harmonious and integrated healthcare landscape in Denmark. Scientific Validation and Global Impact Torben envisions a future where the efficacy of AllergiKompagniet's method is scientifically proven, moving it from an alternative to an accepted treatment within the healthcare system. Expressing his primary goal, Torben states, "My biggest goal for the future would Decoding Allergies In their recent publication, Torben and his colleague, Ole Larsen, shed light on their method and the underlying causes of allergies. The book not only serves as a guide for treating and preventing allergies but also explores the reasons behind the steady rise in allergy cases, attributed in part to the demands of the Western lifestyle. One of the key factors highlighted in the book is the impact of stress overload and frequent antibiotic treatments on disturbing the microbial balance in our intestines and skin, contributing to the development of allergies. The book includes over 40 real-life cases of clients with diverse ailments. These cases showcase the successful outcomes of the treatment method, often achieved in a remarkably short span of sessions. Originally in Danish, the book has been translated into English with the title: "The Allergy Enigma is solved!". The English version of the book awaits publication as Torben seeks the right publisher or project to bring their method and insights to a broader audience. The book promises to be a valuable resource for individuals seeking to navigate the complexities of allergies and explore effective preventive and treatment approaches.

He recalls a mini experiment conducted on a TV program in 2015, which left two evaluating MDs astonished and suggesting a larger study. To achieve scientific validation, the participation of a medical doctor is essential, requiring additional financial support. Torben expresses readiness to commence the project once the necessary requirements are met. Once scientifically proven, the method could be integrated into mainstream healthcare, allowing medical doctors to refer clients and potentially expanding AllergiKompagniet's reach. Beyond national borders, Torben aspires to educate students abroad in this unique method, currently unfamiliar outside Denmark. Recognizing the global rise in allergic individuals, he emphasizes, "There is an estimated 1 billion Allergic people in the world today, rising to 4 billion in 2050 according to the World Allergy Forum. Our method could indeed make a difference worldwide in a safe, healthy and medicine-free way." To achieve this global vision, Torben seeks both financial and operational partners in the relevant countries. By combining resources and expertise, AllergiKompagniet aims to play a pivotal role in addressing the growing global challenge of allergies in a transformative and accessible manner. Paving the Path to Excellence In offering valuable advice to healthcare professionals aspiring to elevate the field, Torben shares a mantra that encapsulates his journey: "Believe in your method, keep educating yourselves, keep an open mind, persevere, and above all – be PATIENT!" Torben underscores the importance of faith in one's approach, continuous learning, maintaining an open-minded approach, persistence, and cultivating patience. Highlighting the common challenge faced by therapists, Torben emphasizes, "You are NOT an expert from the beginning," acknowledging that doubt often creeps in before professionals have the chance to learn from their mistakes. He urges healthcare practitioners not to succumb to self-doubt and to recognize that mistakes are part of the learning process. Torben encourages individuals to embrace these errors, learn from them, and ultimately grow in their practice. Among the countless testimonials received by Torben, one of the most captivating stories involves a lady in her sixties who, after four sessions many years ago, wrote to express a newfound freedom: "Free at least from 30 years of imprisonment." Battling severe Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) since her early twenties, she had lived a secluded life, unable to participate in social activities due to the debilitating nature of her symptoms. After the sessions, she went out for dinner in a restaurant without experiencing any symptoms, enjoying the company of others for the first time in over three decades. Remarkably, more than 15 years later, she continues to thrive, showcasing the profound and lasting impact of AllergiKompagniet's method. Another compelling case involves a man dealing with severe eczema that covered most of his body. Despite undergoing various hospital treatments, including light therapy, tar baths, and applying hormone cream twice a day, he remained skeptical when seeking help from Torben. After just one treatment and a month-long dietary adjustment, his eczema significantly improved. When he returned for his regular light treatment at the hospital, the transformation was so overwhelming that the medical staff struggled to recognize him. Despite acknowledging the effectiveness of Torben's treatment, they were unable to officially refer or recommend it. Years later, the man remains in good health, highlighting the enduring success of the method employed by AllergiKompagniet. Transformative Testimonials

  • 24. here to offer both realistic and light-hearted advice without making anyone feel uncomfortable. But why Scandinavian Biolabs? After graduating law school, I spent quite a few years in management consulting at Kearney, especially working within consumer goods across strategy, category management and procurement across groceries, fashion, and many other sectors. Here, I fell in love with the tangibility of physical products, and how you can make 100.000's of people happier or healthier every day through creating something truly great. How does your experience in FMCG, strategy, and operational excellence contribute to the overall vision and growth of the company? From working with large corporates and within the FMCG sector, you start to know what great looks like, and what is important on a very holistic level, not just with specific issues - especially when it comes to operations and processes. By having spent some time in the sector, you also know what we should aim for and look like in a few years, which is something that guides many of our decisions – something might seem high-effort with very low impact in the short- term, but by having spent time with other companies, you understand that it will lead to real value-creation, even though it might seem like high-effort in the moment. However, I have also learned that conventional thinking from the FMCG world rarely works in challenger brands when it comes to sales – you need to be open to non-linear thinking that can kick-start growth in new ways. You can't just do what the established companies are doing, as they already have a ton of brand equity. This is something I constantly need to remind myself of, and you need to challenge your linear thinking constantly or you will forever be trailing behind. As a former Management Consultant from A. T. Kearney, how has your experience shaped his leadership style and approach to leading high-performing teams and complex projects? I learned a ton in consulting – data, finance, strategy and problem-solving – that I use every day in Scandinavian Biolabs to help guide our decision-making. This also applies to project management. In consulting and working with people on the C-suite level early in your career, you learn how to break down issues into the most important data-point or decision that truly matters. However, the tail-end of this is also going from working in a project-oriented setting, with people extremely similar to yourself and with similar backgrounds, towards being an effective leader – not just an effective manager. I was aware of this before we started growing our team in Scandinavian Biolabs. However, truly leading a set of passionate people towards a shared vision requires something different than managing. While clarity between a team and solving is still really important, you sometimes have to embrace the complexity of the issues you are facing with a mindset of not being able to break it down – where it can truly only be solved by having unnatural great human relations in a team, and having a team that can withstand pressure in situations that are extremely uncertain and don't have any logical solution (or you don't have the time/resources to find it). Such situations happen every day in challenger brands, but very rarely in consulting projects. On the leadership side, I always try to lead with trust, but expect a very high-level of communication, structure, and ownership among our team-members. Could you provide some insights into the company's focus on using naturally derived and vegan ingredients, and how does this align with the company's values and goals? Scandinavian Biolabs was founded in 2020 in Copenhagen, Denmark. One of the founders was Niels, our now COO. A young man in his early 20s who had to face the difficult reality of losing his hair. Niels was determined to find a solution to his hair-loss that was effective and drug-free. Like how we can reduce hair loss and promote stronger, thicker hair, but not turn you into Jared Leto. We're scientists, not magicians. In terms of production and sourcing, we are always striving to do the best possible we can, without sacrificing efficacy. All our core products are produced in Denmark to ensure that we can always check batches of product and ensure that working conditions are best-in-class. Can you give us some examples of the innovative use of plant-based ingredients in the company's products, and how does this differentiate the brand from competitors in the market? As a non-medicated formula, Bio-Pilixin® does not include any ingredients known to change your body's metabolism or to have hormone-disrupting effects – this is a core- differentiator for us. In our core-formula, we differentiate from others by not only relying on tsting individual ingredients, but also the cocktail-effect of the formula. Among our 12 active ingredients, working together to strengthen, soothe, revitalise and repair your hair, we use Capilia Longa, Niacinamide and Vanillyl Butyl Ether. What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs looking to make a positive impact in their respective fields? Don't do what is expected of you from others, not in your personal life, in your career or in business decisions. Please give us a few testimonials from your clients and awards or recognition that accurately highlight your achievements in the corporate niche. We only work as a team in Scandinavian Biolabs, and my role is to support our fantastic team members to do their best – all achievements we make are ours as a team, and not a single individual. What we have done in less than three years – helped more than 80.000 customers all over Europe through our products – is a fantastic journey to be part of, and I think that speaks for itself. of using pills or medical topical treatments that could have disastrous side effects. This concern motivated him to search for an alternative solution, leading to the creation of Scandinavian Biolabs. Looking back at this mission, focusing on harnessing the natural power of ingredients and enhancing it by science is the core of our mission in providing functional hair-care products that you can trust to work with your body and not against it. Can you elaborate on how the company ensures full transparency in terms of production and ingredient sourcing? We prioritize clinical transparency in our functional products. We strive to ensure that our customers understand the ingredients that each of our products have, and how they work to help them. This is also why we have carried out a 150 day clinical testing of our core product – while many solutions offer experienced-based surveys of their customers, we took the extra step to secure that our Bio- Pilixin® Serum was scientifically evaluated through real tests, by real doctors, and not only through perceived consumer effect. We want to make sure our customers are confident that they are making an informed decision when it comes to their hair care. We also make sure to provide our customers with a holistic and transparent approach to hair care. My professional journey is a blend of scientific rigor and entrepreneurial acumen, which contributes to shaping my hands on leadership style at Aquaporin A/S. Beginning with a solid foundation in microbiology, I was always fascinated with health sciences and a deep understanding of complex biological systems. I then transitioned into chemical engineering, where I was able to apply my scientific principles to practical, real-world challenges. My global work experience, working with some of the largest organizations in very diverse cultural settings, not only broadened my professional outlook but also ingrained in me a versatile and adaptive leadership approach. Throughout my career, I have always remained connected and involved in health and the environment, demonstrated through hands- on involvement in water treatment projects, renewable energy, public health and most recently Aquaporin. I have a passion to work on topics that make a direct positive impact on society. What personal experiences or values drive your passion for finding innovative solutions to global water challenges? I have volunteered in public health in Peru, and this has opened my eyes to the importance of access to clean water. I saw hands first the positive impact that clean drinking water makes on people living in remote communities. What drives me is the desire to make a positive impact, to help society. I am an individual with a high sense of empathy, meaning that I automatically project myself in the shoes of others in anything that I do. This helps me drive my decision making, innovative spirit and creativity. I like to surround myself with creative individuals, which is how you end up shaping a company and influencing its culture. One person at a time. Could you elaborate on the company's mission and how it aligns with your vision for the future of water purification? At Aquaporin A/S we are dedicated to addressing one of the world's most pressing challenges: sustainable access to clean water. Our mission revolves around harnessing the power of nature's own water filtration system, aquaporins, to develop revolutionary purification technologies. Our goal is that our biomimetic membranes mimic the natural water filtration process, offering an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly solution to water scarcity and contamination issues. Ultimately, I would like Aquaporin to revolutionize water purification across the globe, making it more accessible, efficient, and sustainable. This is an enormous challenge as blending biology and synthetic membranes is challenging. Nevertheless, it is exactly this challenge that piques my curiosity and gets me going everyday. By continuously innovating and improving our technology, Aquaporin aspires to lead the way in advanced water technologies, contributing to the health of both people and the planet. Aquaporin develops products that purify water, reuse water and decrease the energy consumption required to filter water. This has a direct positive contribution in making clean and healthy drinking water. We indirectly have a positive impact on the carbon footprint of water installations as our technology is often more energy efficient than products used by our potential customers. Since our main area of activity is water purification, everything that we do ends up contributing to a more efficient water or process solution. What goals and aspirations do you have for Aquaporin A/S in the coming years, both in terms of business growth and impact on global water challenges? Aquaporin will continue to grow in our focus areas of residential drinking water, industrial RO membranes and select applications in Forward Osmosis where we deliver the most value. • 34. For BioPorto's distribution and antibodies business, we have hired a manager with experience driving success from offices in Denmark. He has quickly connected with the partners and identified opportunities to expand. Tony Pare CEO BIOPORTO A/S February 2024 www.eurohealthleaders.com 32
  • 35. Tony Pare Leading with Innovation in Medical Devices n the medical device industry, perseverance, Iadaptability, and commitment are vital for improving patient outcomes. Tony Pare, CEO of BIOPORTO A/S, truly embodies these values after 25 years in medical devices and diagnostics. Throughout his career, he consistently recognized a gap in diagnosing and treating Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), a complication from another serious illness that causes kidneys to stop functioning properly. His drive to change this therapeutic shortfall inspired him to join a company determined to change this. Channelling Family Crisis After graduating with a Marine Engineering degree, Tony worked with a major shipbuilder to test nuclear submarines for the US Navy. He then went on to manage a large service organization for an industrial automation systems manufacturer. Like many, Tony witnessed clinicians struggling due to limited diagnostic tools, resulting in needless patient deaths. This became painfully evident when his mother passed away at 54 and his father died in the ICU at 70 without a clear diagnosis. After his mother's death, he changed careers, joining a blood processing device and diagnostics manufacturer. During his journey in medical devices and diagnostics, Tony encountered numerous families experiencing the same frustrating hospital experiences he had, lacking proper tools to diagnose and treat their loved ones. This drives his passion to make a difference through his work, leading him to join BioPorto Diagnostics as CEO. Roles & Responsibilities as a CEO At the helm, Tony spends most of his time developing strategy, hiring and leading the right team that can drive execution, and ensuring that he secures the appropriate capital. BioPorto's specific expertise in antibodies and assay development enables it to generate IVD products addressing areas with substantial medical needs, such as AKI. It's IVD business has technical and regulatory teams delivering products worldwide. In addition, its antibody business is noted as offering unique and high-quality products. The strategy Tony develops has resulted in revenue and product quality increasing annually. Tony's role is to ensure the company has the funding, resources, and focus to drive global market awareness and adoption of this life-saving test. BioPorto is fortunate to have access to educated and skilled people in Denmark. The CEO is proud of the Hellerup Cube Space Copenhagen team and enjoys the Danish work life and biking to work when he is in Denmark. The Ground-breaking Technology Acute kidney injury can occur without ever being detected. AKI is a rapid loss of kidney function that typically occurs as a complication of another serious illness or intervention in the hospital. However, AKI can be difficult to identify because it doesn't typically cause pain or other symptoms but can result in minor loss of kidney function to complete kidney failure. To improve chances for survival, it is essential that AKI is detected early and treated promptly. Right now, when it comes to evaluating AKI, doctors mainly look at changes in serum creatinine and urine output. However, these indicators are slow to respond to the start of an Acute Kidney Injury, are not very specific, and can be influenced by things like diet and muscle mass. This means that many patients with hospital-acquired AKI are unaware of their AKI diagnosis as it is often not detected, leading to potential kidney complications further down the road. As AKI manifests, patients suffer both structural damage and functional impairment, with the former happening considerably earlier. BioPorto's flagship product is a TM laboratory test, The NGAL Test for identifying the Champions of Health: Spotlight on Leaders Shaping Denmark's Healthcare February 2024 www.eurohealthleaders.com 33
  • 36. presence of structural damage. The test enables AKI to be detected within 2-4 hours of the injury (when structural damage occurs), days earlier than with serum creatinine which detects functional damage. According to research by Dr. Prasad Devarajan, Chief of Nephrology and Hypertension at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, and a consultant with BioPorto, serum creatinine does not increase until approximately 50% of the kidney's functional capability is already gone. By using the NGAL Test for earlier diagnosis, doctors can make better treatment decisions tailored to each patient. NGAL values can be helpful in various medical situations, from the emergency room to surgery preparation and specialized care units like those for heart, children, or newborn patients. This helps healthcare teams identify structural kidney damage, whether it happened before or during the hospital stay, and guides them in choosing the right treatment approach. If a clinician can identify AKI early, they can take preventative measures to diminish the injury and progression of kidney disease. Product and Services Offerings BioPorto's flagship product, The NGAL Test, used for identifying the presence of structural damage can help identify Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) in its early stages. If a clinician can identify AKI early, they can take preventative measures to diminish the injury and progression of kidney disease. Today's standard of care diagnostics are too late in diagnosing AKI, which unfortunately means clinicians could miss an opportunity to prevent chronic kidney disease, and the potential for a lifetime of dialysis. The Geopolitical Angle The U.S. is the biggest market for BioPorto's NGAL Test, where its clearance remains under review by the FDA. It already has clearance to sell in the European Union and elsewhere through a CE Mark registration. Prior to Tony joining, BioPorto did not focus commercially on these other approved markets, and therefore clinicians were not aware of the The NGAL Test or its clinical value. Therefore, under Tony's guidance, BioPorto is now investing in commercializing specific markets in Europe, Korea and around the world. This is through a combination of marketing and adding medical affairs and commercial staff in Europe. The collaborations with clinical researchers such as Professor Christian Hassager, Department of Cardiology at Rigshospitalet, further the field of novel biomarker work. The ultimate measure of success will be increased market adoption and revenue for its flagship product, The NGAL Test.
  • 37. "For BioPorto's distribution and antibodies business, we have hired commercial executives with experience driving success from offices in Denmark. They have quickly connected with the partners and identified opportunities to expand." Roadblocks and Resolutions Tony has taken a proactive step to benefit investors in BioPorto, by focusing the company's efforts on BioPorto's primary objective: creating a valuable product for AKI with life-saving potential. This strategic move ensures that resources are concentrated on a singular, impactful goal, promising better long-term results and increased value for investors. In the world of smaller public companies, a common challenge arises from shareholders' desire for a continuous flow of positive news and new products, aiming to enhance the company's value and generate quick trading gains. However, this enthusiasm can become counterproductive if the company takes on too many projects simultaneously. This can lead to significant resource and time investments, delaying project completion. Tony understands this inherently, and has kept the company's singular focus, while keeping investors engaged. First-in-class Strategy Tony's strategy in every leadership position is: Ÿ Set the "North Star" for the organization. In other words, what big goal will we accomplish in the next 1-2 years? Ÿ Define in detail the 3 areas of focus or "pillars" to achieve the North Star. Most of the time this is a Commercial strategy, an Operational strategy and a People strategy. Ÿ Hire the right people to lead, foster a team approach, and guide as required. Ÿ Set the right metrics and consistently communicate. The Journey Ahead Once BioPorto has FDA clearance and market adoption has crossed the chasm from early adopters to the early majority, it will need to create powerful commercial organizations. In addition to Tony 's experience in this area, two members of his leadership team have significant experience in building sales channels and direct sales organizations. From the Leader "Focus, focus, focus and constantly remind yourself that the mission is to save lives while building shareholder value. Don't be distracted by every 'shiny object' that is presented and always remember to treat shareholder capital like it is your own." Tony Pare successfully and elegantly navigates science, passion for service, strategic vision and leadership in the most integrated fashion. He leads with precision and pivots with thoughtful discernment. His leadership is rivaled only by sets of competencies that he has masterfully amassed over time. This allows him to lead with a strong resolve and direction punctuated by his professional and personal values, which anchor a culture of exceptional and competitive performance, servant leadership, and continuous search for meaning and innovation. - Dr. Ninfa M.
