Background  Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) is one of the top-ranked universities in the country. It has secured its slot in the reputed rankings such as Times Higher Education and QS. It offers education in the humanities & Social Sciences, Business, Management, Law, Engineering and Education (www.lums.edu.pk).  The Gad and Birgit Rausing Library at LUMS is one of the biggest private sector university libraries in Pakistan. It has access to over 300,000 print collection, 240,000 e-books, 40,000 electronic journals and 50 databases (library.lums.edu.pk).  Currently, the researchers work in the same library. The LUMS library professionals regularly conduct Information Literacy (IL) sessions for the library users. The inception of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has posed multifaceted challenges in delivering IL (Flierl, 2023). Therefore, this study aims to explore the challenges Pakistani IL librarians face and ways forward in this regard. 04/09/2026 3

Literature Review  IL is part and parcel of libraries, and AI has revolutionized every sphere of life, including libraries (Kannaujia et al., 2024). Past research has identified multiple challenges for libraries in the AI era (Udo-Okon & Akpan, 2024), which undoubtedly affect them. However, the literature also reflects on the way forward in this scenario (Khalid, 2025). Research on AI & libraries is trending among global researchers (Ali & Richardson, 2025; Ayinde, Ebiefung, & Oladokun, 2026; Cox & Mazumdar, 2024). However, there is a dearth of Pakistani literature in this area, especially on AI and IL. 04/09/2026 5
