  • Located ata corner plot in Bashundhara Residential Area, the “Kakoli Manor” was designed with the idea of implementing contemporary building techniques & features. With roads on two sides, the site creates an interesting opportunity to flip a typical suburban house condition. The consequences evolved an overall feeling of clarity and composure – a home that enhances the life of the growing family who resides within its walls. The house came up with an introverted form with a solid mass of concrete that stands still and bold from the outside. The vigorous play of light and volume is introduced only when one enters and walks through different spaces inside.

  • On theground floor, there is parking for vehicles, a formal living area, dining, a pantry, and a patio area with a swimming pool. The first floor includes a family dining and a coffee bar area, two separate kitchens, a TV room, and a sufficiently big walk-in closet room essentially designed for the lady of the house this floor is where the residents spend most of their time. The second floor is a private zone consisting of two bedrooms for the children and one bedroom for the parents, each opening to a terrace. The third floor is dominated by open spaces; contains a gym, an indoor lounge, and elegantly furnished outdoor seating areas. The landscaping in the terraces and external areas is of predominantly tropical, low-maintenance species, creating a lush tropical feel inside the spaces.

  As mentioned earlier,the three-storied residential building is entirely built with fair-face concrete and used in its natural state giving a timeless impact. Interestingly, stretching one part of the interior wall is engraved in a graphical motif that brings out the details and beauty of the concrete. Having a series of connected intimate spaces, continuous visual links through double- height spaces, passages, and multiple terraces, the outcome is an all-season escape space in the city with its qualified, airy, bright ambiance.

  The project briefemphasized mental and physical well-being rather than spatial requirements. The client invested his resources in his and his family’s future when the surrounding would inevitably fill up mercilessly with brutal concrete structures. The design focused on providing breathing space within the compound in contrast to the existing trend and surrounding environment, not only for the owners but for the neighbors who are forced to be packed in matchbox houses due to the ever-increasing demands of urban living.

  Creating an exampleof an IDEAL HOME in the present rapidly growing URBAN CONTEXT OF DHAKA CITY which incorporates a simple shift in the typical thought process: COST REDUCTION can be equivalent to INCOME GENERATION The value of PHYSICAL AND MENTAL WELL-BEING is much greater than Economic prosperity in the long run. The design is minimal and simple, fully intending to preserve the original natural state as much as possible. The structure is a mere backdrop of busy homesteading, healthy living, and memory crafting.

  • The balanceis achieved through the crafted relationship between • Open space: This project adds to the urban landscape by providing substantial open space. The client wanted a home for his family thus the footprint was deliberately kept tight to encourage a sense of togetherness while the tropical breeze soaks up the stress. • Pavilion: A pavilion kind of space flows always maintains the airflow of the house and brings the overall temperature of the entire space down; it also works as a multipurpose space for family interaction. • Courtyard: Courtyards can play an important role in regulating the microclimate of the tropics. It works a transition between the large open space and the house.

  When it comesto Dhaka, the best architecture is the one that is not built at all as the open green spaces are rapidly disappearing causing serious degradation of the living environment. Moreover, the challenge of balancing aspiration and affordability poses to be even greater when it merges with the future concerns of a family. The design tried to find a balance between these complexities and make a statement against the trend.

  • In aserene environment, situated just on the outskirts of Dhaka city with proximity to the river Shitalakha, the design was intended for the residence of a family. With its transitional layers of indoor-outdoor spaces, the residence offers generous spreads of filtered daylight glazing through the interiors. It intended for people to look for the unknown and ask from the unknown. Hence, the residence was named CHAABI, meaning wanting something in Bengali.

  • The flowof the house's function expresses openness and nature. While the main entrance acts towards welcoming guests, other entrances are crafting the openness and blending with the surrounding nature. On the ground floor are bedrooms, a home theatre, a dining room, a swimming pool, a gym, a guest room, a kitchen and a staff room. The water body beside the living room is open to the sky, and the south opening gives the view of nature with the calmness of the south wind. The water body beside the house has a straight connection to the house. The narrow walkway on the edge of the water body takes to a large open space, giving the feeling of going from a small space to a large space.

  • A seriesof light-filled stairways provide a visual connection with the landscape and emulate walking through the green grass as one passes between spaces. • On the first floor, there's an intimate family area where rain can be relished and a door that opens to the outdoor area where one can sit and cherish the rain. Besides that, a guest room, kitchenette, and a long corridor lead to various spaces, such as the family living room, where there is a space called address- desk. It's an elevated wooden stage with three microphones to give speech. Then there are a few bedrooms and a study room. The master bedroom is especially celebrated with a stair connecting it to the open field.

This subtle incorporation provides the users with physical and psychological connections with nature. The discussion of the project came to a point where the whole thing seemed like a poem. That assured the client enough to say, "You write, and I will interpret it in my way."

  • The entryhas an initial plinth (dawa) area inspired from the traditional village houses of Bangladesh. There is an open tunnel walkway watching over a water body and framing the green expanse merging with the house lawn. The horizon can be seen on the west from this reception area.   • On thefirst floor there are bedrooms and the family living. The master bedroom opens outward to a green courtyard which is also accessible form the library. The guest room is situated on the second floor along with a Music hall. There is a water body which leads to the guest room. The music room/ family lounge opens Omni-directions and celebrates the water body on the south, sunsets on the west and the lawn on the north. The residence is built in a combination of exposed concrete. Thus, a soothing effect is evolved to match with regional climate and resistance against earthquake.

  • The metalnet boundary wall with porosity on the west flank visually connects the residence area with the farmland. The bulk of branching trees including the Indian Almond and Albizia Saman provide a canopy of shade and screening. The landscape seems to be alive with colors with its dramatic ever-changing hues and fragrance. It indeed is a luxury to indulge in the setup of nature from the picturesque frames of the residence.

  The natural configurationof adjacent Hills and a merely further vivid Sea, with their opulent strength and beauty was sole inspiration to conceptualize the project. In attaining an infinite view from hill to sea, the villa is portrayed more as a frame to capture the view rather to be an obstruction. Desired spaces and their formal expression are flourished in accordance to celebrate the harmonious horizontality and elegant verticality of two environmental stimuli. While doing so, a dominant issue was to lessen site damages as well as maximize the retention of existing natural ecosystem of the environment. The residence is sited overlooking the sea with a perfect back drop of magnanimous green hills.   • While enteringthe residence, views are instantly swiped to the luminous greenery and hill of the back yards. The living area is a double height space that enhances the feeling of openness which contributes to the indoor – outdoor relation. The airy staircase acts as the central spine of this residence that tie-up multiple levels and taking the stairways from entry level to the roof top is a ride of exploring the enigma of spaces. Composite structure was adopted to transform the concept at its best formal expression. The central part is of steel structure amidst the RCC construction. Concrete floors of this residence are of flat- plate structure where floor finishes has a variation of marble, wood and tile. Black polished marble is used inside the ground floor to create the reflection of surrounding trees while antique-polished marbles are placed outside to make the floor non-slippery.   • The privatezone of bed rooms are hived within the RCC structure in both ends having two of them located in split level and two of them on standard floor level. But each of four bed room, unlike other space of the house is a delightful setup to have the explicit views of the nature. While the sunken gourmet kitchen and its adjacent dining is a hub for cozy food-fun festivity, the roof level bar room with stretched terrace is perfect for soiree. Muted embellishment of fair-face concrete adorned exterior has enabled the single glazing surfaces amplify the vivid display of adjacent trees, changing images of sky and sea with their color, light and shadow, even some times mirror the further sea as a translucent imagery overlay of these mighty forces. The front of the villa has a minutely assembled landscape of a lawn. Age old recycled ship planks and concrete slabs; laid and soaked up with grass and earth has formed a subtle entrance path to the house.   • A HarmoniousBlend of Tradition and Nature - Situated In the Bhaluka district of Mymensingh, in Kachina village, Fakir Bari honors family heritage, culture, and dynasty. The name reflects deep respect for these values. From the design's inception, the client's desire for simplicity, minimal greenery, and a pleasant living environment guided every decision. In keeping with this vision, no trees were cut to accommodate the building; additional trees were planted, enhancing the landscape's beauty and integrating the structure seamlessly with its surroundings.

These fruit- bearing trees add aesthetic value and provide fresh fruits and oxygen, enriching the tenants' experience.   This project startswith nostalgia. There was grief, dreams, and hope in our client's voice when we heard the story. We tried to translate his emotions through spaces. We got inspiration from the poem by Emily Dickinson –

  At the site,an emotional preponderance of spirit held the ‘solitude of space,’ offering moments of introspection. The solitude of space represents the opportunity to find a moment of loneliness to reflect on something in different places worldwide. The poem’s focus on the soul relates to the idea of a unifying component. Thoughtfully designed spaces can create soulful connections from the past for the family over generations, which allow people to engage with their souls, culture, and tradition.

  • The rectangularform creates two courtyards, maximizing prevailing winds and minimizing sun exposure. These courtyards also create meaningful community spaces for the family and neighborhood. The front yard serves as the main entry, with a kachari ghar (guest house) for Ibrahim Chowdhury and a private yard for gatherings. A stair leads to the upper floor, with an open kitchen and a bridge connecting the family living and dining areas. Apertures on the roof define this circulation spine to get sunlight and natural ventilation. The terrace connects the family living activities indoors and outdoors, enhancing the connection between the neighborhood and its surroundings.

  In the south,the green compound, contemplated as a 'solitude of space,' creates an eternal tie between the husband and wife, the children and their mother, or future generations to the ancestors. The prayer space is reached from the family living to a solid concrete form facing the private yard, where the mother's grave is visually connected. It allows family members to see the mother's grave after turning their heads to the left, offering a Taslim [a concluding portion of the salah, where one recites As-salāmu ʿalaikum wa-raḥmatu-Allah ("Peace and blessings of God be unto you") once while facing the right, and once while facing the left].
