A future-proof HR system
with all relevant key figures
With a mere 16 employees, Blueprinter invested in the future by
choosing CUBES HR. To Blueprinter, it was important to be in control of
all master data and present themselves professionally to investors and
board, and also be able to expand the HR system as the company
grows on the international market.
Despite being able to make-do with a home grown HR system consisting of
spreadsheets and more, Blueprinter chose to invest in the future with CUBES HR. The
light version of CUBES provides an overview of all master data, including employment
contracts, organisation chart, and updated contact information on all employees and
closest relatives in case of an emergency. Also included is absence and vacation
planning, as well as allowing for predefined reporting. In addition, employees are able
to enter all master data and vacation requests by themselves.
According to CEO of Blueprinter Niels Appel, the management assessed it to be
easier to introduce a HR system while the company was small, and then progressively
add to it as the need for tactical and strategic HR increases.
”CUBES HR has been an important investment in the future. We wanted to have the
proper foundation for our HR processes, removing the risk of ending up in a situation
where we lack the overview of key figures when investors or the board are requesting
answers. Blueprinter’s main investors are two equity funds, and as such we believe it
is important to present ourselves professionally,” Niels Appel says.
Catalyst to gain control of master data
In reality, Blueprinter chose to implement CUBES HR even before the company’s 3D
printer arrived on the market. CUBES HR was used as the catalyst to gain control of all
master and systemised data in the right manner. Further, an important element was to
get all data digitised, making it available to all the relevant people.

and future-proof HR system which
were expandable as the need to
develop HR processes increased.

been good, and the system is easy to
use without training.

least of which was digitising data.

”Some data was entered into spreadsheets; other documents were not even tracked
yet, while our employment contracts were sitting in a physical binder. It is great having
all this sorted, otherwise the risk was that documents would go missing,” says Niels
Appel, who was also pleased with the implementation process, which went smoothly.
Intuitive vacation planning
Besides gaining control of master data, both management and employees have
gained a system for registering vacation days. With vacation registration, the
employees themselves are able to enter vacation requests. When the management
has approved the request, the vacation period is automatically registered in the
system. This feature provides a quick overview of which employee wishes to be on
vacation when, if there are overlaps of vacation requests in a department, and how
many vacation days the individual has spent within the vacation year. The overview is
not merely viewable by the management, but throughout the organisation. The
individual employee can at any point see how many vacation days are spent.
”Even with a mere 16 employees, it becomes difficult to gain an overview of resources
available in a department. CUBES HR affords us a structure for this, and we avoid
entering vacation days into a spreadsheet every month,” Niels Appel says.
Abreast of HR
According to Niels Appel, the modular structure in particular was decisive in choosing
CUBES HR, because it allowed Blueprinter to get started with a relatively small budget.
”CUBES HR has afforded us exactly that which we wanted to achieve. We have been
granted a great overview on a platform allowing us to expand without using increasing
amounts of resources to do so. It is always debatable when one is supposed to
introduce a HR system. The vast majority will only do so when the board demands
answers from HR that they are not able to answer. Our strategy has been to prefer to
get it up and running a bit early, while it is still easy - and it has been easy. The system
is very easy to use and there has been no need for training,” Niels Appel says.
CUBES Software aligns HR with overall strategy, thereby allowing the organisation to
do strategic planning onward and forward, based on systematic documentation.

a final thesis from the Technical
University of Denmark and is owned

To Blueprinter, it was important to be in control of all master data and present themselves professionally to investors and board, and also be able to expand the HR system as the company grows on the international market. Despite being able to make-do with a home grown HR system consisting of spreadsheets and more, Blueprinter chose to invest in the future with CUBES HR. The light version of CUBES provides an overview of all master data, including employment contracts, organisation chart, and updated contact information on all employees and closest relatives in case of an emergency. Also included is absence and vacation planning, as well as allowing for predefined reporting. In addition, employees are able to enter all master data and vacation requests by themselves. According to CEO of Blueprinter Niels Appel, the management assessed it to be easier to introduce a HR system while the company was small, and then progressively add to it as the need for tactical and strategic HR increases. ”CUBES HR has been an important investment in the future. We wanted to have the proper foundation for our HR processes, removing the risk of ending up in a situation where we lack the overview of key figures when investors or the board are requesting answers. Catalyst to gain control of master data In reality, Blueprinter chose to implement CUBES HR even before the company’s 3D printer arrived on the market. CUBES HR was used as the catalyst to gain control of all master and systemised data in the right manner. Further, an important element was to get all data digitised, making it available to all the relevant people. It is great having all this sorted, otherwise the risk was that documents would go missing,” says Niels Appel, who was also pleased with the implementation process, which went smoothly. Intuitive vacation planning Besides gaining control of master data, both management and employees have gained a system for registering vacation days. With vacation registration, the employees themselves are able to enter vacation requests. When the management has approved the request, the vacation period is automatically registered in the system. This feature provides a quick overview of which employee wishes to be on vacation when, if there are overlaps of vacation requests in a department, and how many vacation days the individual has spent within the vacation year. The overview is not merely viewable by the management, but throughout the organisation. The individual employee can at any point see how many vacation days are spent. ”Even with a mere 16 employees, it becomes difficult to gain an overview of resources available in a department. CUBES HR affords us a structure for this, and we avoid entering vacation days into a spreadsheet every month,” Niels Appel says. Abreast of HR According to Niels Appel, the modular structure in particular was decisive in choosing CUBES HR, because it allowed Blueprinter to get started with a relatively small budget. ”CUBES HR has afforded us exactly that which we wanted to achieve. We have been granted a great overview on a platform allowing us to expand without using increasing amounts of resources to do so. It is always debatable when one is supposed to introduce a HR system. The vast majority will only do so when the board demands answers from HR that they are not able to answer. Our strategy has been to prefer to get it up and running a bit early, while it is still easy - and it has been easy.
