Here are some tips for sharpening your networking skills at industry events:
- Bring plenty of updated business cards and make sure your contact information is complete.
- Have an icebreaker strategy prepared, such as commenting on something noticeable about the other person to start a conversation.
- Take advantage of opportunities provided at events like the CLM Annual Conference to meet professionals from different perspectives through roundtable discussions and other interactive formats.
- If an event seems less engaging, go with a "wingman" and set a goal to meet at least one new person before leaving.
- Follow up after the event through tools like LinkedIn to maintain connections made with new contacts.
