4. BCM Resource Centre is a Christian Charity that provides those in need with everyday
items, foodstuffs and household goods. Everything you see is donated by members
of the public from churches and other community organisations.
BCM Resource Centre is staffed mostly by volunteers and a couple of paid staff.
Please treat all staff with respect as they are here to try and help you.
5. Items include: food parcels, clothing, furniture, bedding, toiletries and various items
of furniture such as tables, chairs, beds, arm chairs, sofas and a large selection of
white goods from ovens to kettles.
6. BCM Resource centre is open to the public Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each
week between 10am and 4pm.
7. Remember that BCM is a charity, not a high street store and we cannot guarantee to
have what you're looking for at the time. The reason for this is that all the goods and
food you can see in BCM are donated and we can only sell or donate items to visitors
that we have been given.
8. When looking for items, you should see a white label on them. The label will tell you
how much the item is. If there is no label or the label has got names crossed off etc
then please ask a member of staff if it is still available for sale or not.
If there is also a name written on the item it means it has already been reserved by
someone else. If so then that person has a week [7 days] to come and collect it or
arrange for it to be delivered. There should be a date on the label to tell you when
the item was reserved.
If there is a name on written on the item but no date or the date that is shown is
more than a week old then please ask a member of staff if the item is available or not.
9. Food parcels.
10. These can be requested by visitors usually every two months. However this can vary
according to how high or low food stocks are. Please ask what the current gap
between food parcels is.
11. When you are claiming a food parcel it is helpful if you can bring with you a letter that
tells BCMthat you have been seen by someone who is able to tell BCM what your
needs are.
12. Letters can come from your Housing Association, Council, Vicar / Minister, Hostel or
another charity. If you do not have such a letter and cannot easily get one then
please tell a member of staff who will assess your needs when you arrive at BCM.
13. Food parcels are not intended to replace your weekly shopping. They are intended to
be a top up to help with your situation.
14. Food parcels are stocked with a set list of items. Subject to availability you will always
find items such as tinned fruit, vegetables, meat, cereal, tea or coffee and milk. There
is little difference between the food parcels.
15. We do understand that people like some foods and not others. Whilst we can usually
change on or two items on request we cannot swap large amounts of food.
16. If you are homeless or do not have proper cooking facilities at your home or have
special dietary needs then please tell the member of staff serving you as we can make
up a food parcel suitable for you.
17. White Goods
18. BCM sells all manner of white goods at very low prices to members of the public who
would otherwise struggle to afford items like washing machines, fridges, freezers,
kettles, heaters, Microwaves, cookers, and Televisions etc.
19. All electrical items must be tested before they can leave the building. This is for your
safety as we cannot allow faulty items to be sold to the public. You can reserve an
item before it has been tested but it must be tested before you can take it away.
20. Due to most items being second hand BCM cannot offer any guarantee for the
items....sorry.
21. Furniture
22. BCM usually has a good stock of second hand furniture including tables, chairs, beds,
sofas and TV stands all at very low prices.
BCM usually has a range of household furniture such as wardrobes, drawers, TV
stands, tables and chairs. If you cannot find what you are looking for please ask a
member of staff.
23. Furniture Packs
24. BCM offers a furniture pack service. For £100 BCM can deliver a bundle of items to
you. The bundle includes a bed, mattress, chest of drawers, wardrobe, table and
chairs, a sofa and arm chair and bedding. Please ask for an exact list of items. The
furniture pack is delivered free of charge.
25. Furniture packs are most suitable for those whose accommodation has no or next to
no items of furniture. BCMmay be able to swap one item for another not on the
normal furniture pack list but we cannot promise to do so. The reason is that all the
items BCMhas available to it are donated and we cannot put items in to furniture
packs that we do not have.
26. Furniture packs also come with a kitchen pack which is a box of kitchen basics such as
a plate, mug, saucepan and cutlery. If you are a family or more than one person
please tell the staff member helping you.
27. If you already have some of the items on the furniture pack list then it may be better
value to buy those items you actually need separately as it may be cheaper for you
this way.
28. Bedding / clothing
29. You can buy basic bedding or clothing from BCM. Please ask to go up stairs where a
staff member will help you find what you need. Bedding is given free of charge to
those who buy a bed from us or who are in real need including those who are
homeless. After this there is a small charge.
The first time you visit BCM you can have a bag of clothes free of charge. After this
there is a small charge but this is still very good value.
Please ask what the current cost for bedding and clothes is.
30. Other Information
31. Personal issues:
If you have other needs that BCM does not deal with them please tell a member of
staff as they may be able to refer you to an agency that can. This may include issues
such as relationship breakdowns, drugs, alcohol, domestic violence or mental health.
BCM cannot deal with any health or financial issues itself. These will need to be
referred to an appropriate agency or medical practitioner. BCM may be able to help
you locate one if you ask.
32. Delivery and Collection of Items
33. BCM can collect donations from you and deliver items to you between Monday and
Friday. The BCM van usually follows a set pattern in terms of the area it visits each
day. Staff will be able to tell you what day of the week the van can collect from or
deliver to your area and approx what time the van will arrive. Collection is free but
there is a small charge for deliveries. This is currently £5.
34. Soft furnishings. Please make sure that the item you are donating has a valid fire
label. BCMcannot accept your donation if does not have a fire label.
