Sri Aurobindo Ghosh was an Indian philosopher, yogi, guru, poet and nationalist. He was born in 1872 in Calcutta and received an English education before returning to India. He became involved in India's independence movement but later shifted his focus to spiritual matters. In 1926, he founded an ashram in Pondicherry where he developed the philosophy of integral yoga. His major philosophical works include The Life Divine and Essays on the Gita. For education, he advocated an integral approach that developed students physically, mentally, vitally and spiritually. He emphasized learning through experience, character development and educating the whole child based on their abilities.
