Maryhill Burgh
Halls Trust
Melanie Farrow (she/her), CEO
• Maryhill Burgh Halls Trust (MBHT) was
established in 2004 as a registered
charity in North West Glasgow.
• The Trust was set up to save the
Victorian Burgh Halls from demolition
and bring the Halls back into
community use.
• The Burgh Halls serves as a community
centre and provides many different
activities.
“Our vision is to be the primary, self-funding, community hub in North Glasgow. A focal point for residents to
celebrate culture & community heritage, while addressing the social welfare needs of the local community”
Heritage – saving the building • The new Burgh Hall building at
Gairbraid Avenue was opened in
1878
• It included police accommodation,
court room, bathhouse, washhouse,
fire station and a public hall.
• Following a long and distinguished
life in Mayhill the halls were subject
to a demolition order at the end of
the 20th century.
• MBHT earned support from an array
of funders, raising over £9 million to
regenerate the building.
• The Halls were officially reopened in
2012 with Category B listed status.
Heritage –stained
glass, new and old
Adam and Small (1870 – 1910)
• Maryhill Burgh Halls contained 20
stained glass panels created by
the studio Adam and Small
• The stained glass was removed
from the building in 1963, and
has been in the care of Glasgow
Museums ever since.
• The refurbishment and re-
opening of the building has
allowed 11 of the original panels
to be returned.
Heritage –stained
glass, new and
old
Windows of Today

Winning were commissioned to
design and produce a new set of
stained glass windows for

A focal point for residents to celebrate culture & community heritage, while addressing the social welfare needs of the local community”
  • 7. Heritage – saving the building • The new Burgh Hall building at Gairbraid Avenue was opened in 1878 • It included police accommodation, court room, bathhouse, washhouse, fire station and a public hall. • Following a long and distinguished life in Mayhill the halls were subject to a demolition order at the end of the 20th century. • MBHT earned support from an array of funders, raising over £9 million to regenerate the building. • The Halls were officially reopened in 2012 with Category B listed status.
  • 8. Heritage –stained glass, new and old Adam and Small (1870 – 1910) • Maryhill Burgh Halls contained 20 stained glass panels created by the studio Adam and Small • The stained glass was removed from the building in 1963, and has been in the care of Glasgow Museums ever since. • The refurbishment and re- opening of the building has allowed 11 of the original panels to be returned.
  • 9.
