The project profession in the UAE & globally: why now?
With 25 million additional project professionals needed
globally by 2030, and the UAE investing billions across Vision
2031 mega-programmes, the demand for credentialed
professionals has never been higher. Now is the moment for
UAE professionals to understand the credibility, mobility, and
competitive edge that chartered status brings.
The Abu Dhabi University–APM Memorandum of Understanding
signals growing institutional commitment to advancing project
management excellence in the region — a recognition that
professional standards matter at the highest levels.
Fewer than half of all projects globally are led by a qualified project
manager. Whether you are early in your career, considering
Chartership, or supporting your team’s professional development —
this session is for you.

APM Membership vs Chartered Status: understanding the distinction
APM Membership
Membership is open to all and
provides access to CPD tools, the
APM Community platform, the
Body of Knowledge, events, and
the Project journal. It is the
foundation of your APM journey.
Chartered Status (ChPP)
ChPP is an externally assessed
designation awarded to those
who demonstrate the highest
standard of competence. It is not
automatic with membership — it
must be earned through a
rigorous assessment process.
What ChPP Signals
Membership supports your
journey. ChPP validates that you
have arrived — at the highest
standard the profession
recognises globally.
Both, Together
Many UAE professionals begin
with Full Membership, build CPD
evidence, and then pursue ChPP.
The two work in tandem —
membership keeps your
designation active and your
learning current.

Which statement best reflects your understanding?
• APM membership automatically provides Chartered status
• ChPP is an independently assessed professional designation
• ChPP is only a training course
• ChPP is only available to existing APM Fellows
• I am still unsure

Supporting project professionals at every step of the way

That’s better for you and for the wider world too.

As the only chartered membership organisation for the project profession, we set the
benchmark. Chartered status is recognised internationally as the equivalent of Chartered
Accountant, Chartered Engineer, or Chartered Surveyor designations — demonstrating a
defined level of expertise validated through rigorous, independent assessment.
For UAE-based professionals, ChPP signals credibility, mobility, and competitive edge — in a
market where major programme sponsors increasingly scrutinise the professional standing of
the teams they appoint.
Our Chartered Project Professionals span a range of sectors, ages and career stages. It
doesn’t matter whether you’ve gained previous qualifications — it’s your proven project
experience and technical knowledge that count.

Organisations that invest in chartered status signal a
commitment to delivery excellence and attract top talent.

DEWA, SHELL, PDO, WOOD and government ministries and
private companies increasingly scrutinise project delivery
capability.
Having ChPP-accredited professionals on your team is a
tangible differentiator in competitive bids and client
relationships.
