Optimizes the PC gaming experience by linking the gamer’s
PC from the bedroom or office to their prime gaming location.
■ Designed a fully functional system with many high performance
features as simply as possible to reduce production costs.
■ RF, digital hardware and software development enabling very high speed data transfer
with very low latency over a wired or wireless network.
■ Resolved significant de-sense (radio performance below sensitivity spec) issues late in design (more on this)

ULTRA-RUGGED SMARTWATCH
C L I E N T: Nixon
■ Developed an audio port that was water resistant to
three feet under water – but could also be put into
‘lock’ mode for activities such as surfing, with water
resistance to 10 ATM.
■ Engineered a movable seal that was small enough to
match the industrial design, but large enough to
ergonomically suit active hands.
■ Developed a water resistant (1atm) audio port to
function for voice recording while still being small
enough to seal and keep out contaminants.
■ Validated our two-stage prototypes at different depths
and proposed mechanical design recommendations to
Nixon.

STEAM LINK C L I E N T: Valve 1 0 | S Y N A P S E P R O D U C T D E V E L O P M E N T VALVE STEAM LINK 2016 Optimizes the PC gaming experience by linking the gamer’s PC from the bedroom or office to their prime gaming location. ■ Designed a fully functional system with many high performance features as simply as possible to reduce production costs. ■ RF, digital hardware and software development enabling very high speed data transfer with very low latency over a wired or wireless network. ■ Resolved significant de-sense (radio performance below sensitivity spec) issues late in design (more on this) ■ Tackled challenges in the software to resolve numerous interoperability issues with products in the field. ■ Provided continued support and maintenance for mass production.

  4. An interesting project not just for the RF design which is unique but also for the method of assembly. All the electronics are assembled on a flexible substrate, then injection molded in a soft touch translucent plastc lthat provides a dead front display design.

  6. Building a disruptive product is hard. There is a minefield of risks along the way. Synapse’s VP of engineering has a blog post that talk more about the holistic challenges of delivering risky products. Here we’re going to focus on RF and antenna design The major challenge in cutting edge design is really understanding the design space, physically, from the ultimate customers’ experience and for my client’s point of view Many RF engineers I have met take the “trust me I’ve done this before” approach, which really doesn’t work in innovative space HFSS allows us to explore that space rapidly, and look at many possible solutions. That allows us to communicate performance data of concepts
  7. OK so how do we do that? A bit more specifically here is generally how this process goes down. We start with very simple architectures, we build a parameterized model into HFSS to facilitate understand possible solutions We might come up with 2-10 approaches, we rank them, allow other disciplines to weigh in of advantages and disadvantages of each
