This presentation discusses the development of Ansari Chat, an AI assistant designed to help Muslims access Islamic knowledge and scholarship. Beginning as a basic chatbot in 2023, Ansari has grown into a platform that uses Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to search through over
18,000 pages of Islamic sources, including the Qur'an, Hadith collections, and Fiqh encyclopedias.
The presentation covers Ansari v3's features: multi-lingual support, morphological analysis of Arabic text, contextual religious guidance, and educational content generation. Using actual usage data, we examine how people use the system for tasks ranging from writing khutbahs to
understanding theological concepts and learning Arabic grammar.
We discuss practical challenges including maintaining accuracy in religious contexts, providing proper source attribution, and balancing accessibility with scholarly standards. The talk also covers future developments, including MCP (Model Context Protocol) integration for additional
capabilities and specialized educational tools.
This work explores how AI can improve access to Islamic knowledge while working within traditional scholarly frameworks. The presentation will interest technologists, Islamic educators, and those curious about applications of AI in religious education and scholarship.
