Actophotometer

This instrument is designed to measure animal activity levels. It contains a clear Perspex chamber with a grid of brass rods spaced 3/16 inches apart. A shock of variable strength up to 100v and 0.2mA can be delivered through the grid to stimulate movement. A digital counter displays the number of movements detected. The front panel allows independent control of power and shock strength, and displays the shock voltage and movement count.

ACTIVITY CAGE (ACTOPHOTOMETER) This Instrument is designed with the Modern-State-if-Art-Technology incorporating LSI Electronic Digital Circuitry. The Chamber for the animal is made out of clear Perspex sheet fitted with grill of nickel plated brass rods placed 3/16” apart. A variable shockof strength 100v, 50 Hz, 0.2 Ma is provided which is built-in the instrument. Also a four digit counter is provided which counts the movement of the animal inside the Perspex chamber. The counter is provided with a reset switch. The controlpanel is properly designed and is self explanatory. The value of shock strength can be adjust with the help of the Adj. Know marked SHOCK STRENGTHand is indicated on the DIGITAL voltmeter. Separate indicators are provided to indicate the Mains ON and the shock strength ON. Also separate ON/OFF switches are provided to switch on the instrument and ShockStrength. The instrument is provided with a detachable Mains Cord for easy handling and storage. A droppings tray, which is removable for cleaning is provided under the Perspex chamber.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Insert the mains lead into the mains socket and the socketprovided on the left hand side of the cabinet. 2. Switch the Instrument ON with the help of the switch marked Mains of the front panel. 3. The red indicator above the ON switch starts glowing and indicates that the mains voltage is available. Also the four digit display marked COUNT starts displaying either all Zero’s or some count. 4. Press the Reset switch once. Now the COUNT is 0000. 5. Insert the animal into the chamber. 6. Switch the ShockON with the help of the Switch marked ON near the voltmeter. The green indicator starts glowing. 7. St the ShockStrength value on the Voltmeter with the help of SHOCK STRENGTHto the desired value according to the experiment. 8. Now because of the Shock available on the grid, the animal starts moving here and there. This movement is recorded on the Four Digits Counter and is displayed on the front panel marked with COUNT. 9. Interrelate the count value with the experiment requirements being performed. PRECAUTIONS: 1. Keep the instrument clean and dry. 2. Do not handle the instrument with wet hands. 3. Do not try to touch the grill when the SHOCK STRENGTHis on. 4. Handle the Perspex box carefully.
